Koga was tearing off towards the mountain. He left his poor wolf-demon brothers in the dust. They were already a half hour behind the wolf-demon prince, and he was widening the gap even more. This is it. He told himself steadily. I will finally get my revenge on that bastard Naraku. He was so focused on his destination that he didn't realize he was being headed off until he was already facing his new adversary.

”Kikyo?! What are you doing!?!” he demanded as she pulled a bow from her quiver faster than he could finish his question.

“Your shards will be mine.” She stated plainly as she let her purifying arrow fly.

“Heh! You're going to have to do better than that!” He yelled as he easily evaded her attack.

“Hmph.” She smirked with her bitter dead eyes, making Koga realize that his haste towards the mountain caused him to neglect detecting yet another opponent. The sounds of chains reached his ears before a sickle slashed through his fur-covered shins.

“Ughhh!” He cried as he went crashing to the ground.

Two pink sparkling shards were caught by the demon-slayer's left hand as he landed beside Kikyo.

“Come, Kohaku. My reincarnation is near.” With a last look of disgust at the wolf youkai, she slowly stalked off towards the mountain again.

“JUST WHAT THE HELL DO YOU WANT WITH KAGOME?! YOU BETTER NOT TOUCH HER, YOU UNDEAD BITCH!!!” Koga was in an incredible amount of pain, and he wouldn't be able to fight much less stand properly, but he was willing to die for Kagome, so even though he would probably lose against the undead miko, he would fight nonetheless if it helped save Kagome's life. Heh. He thought bitterly. I might not be able to kill her in this state, but I could do some serious damage!!!

Without turning around, Kikyo unconcernedly replied, “My reincarnation will be returned to her own time. Whether she is harmed or not before that time will not be my doing. I simply want her to be where she belongs.”

Kikyo would've liked to say that she was going to drag that pathetic excuse for reincarnation to the Bone Eater's Well by her hair and chuck her through it and seal the well forever. However, Kikyo was running out of time for her plan to work, and she didn't want to spend any more of it with the useless wolf demon, so she was careful with her words. She knew that the wolf-demon would die defending Kagome. She resentfully thought about how Inuyasha would do the same. She then continued to saunter away with Kohaku following, leaving the Koga slumped against a tree, bleeding severely.

Naraku's steel claw reformed into a tentacle and wrapped itself around the hanyou's neck.

“INUYASHA!!!” Kagome screamed. “Let him go, Naraku!” She ordered defiantly.

“Kukuku….Kagome, do not think you can defeat me. I could never fall prey to such a weakling of a miko.”

Kagome drew an arrow and pointed it at their fated enemy. “IKEI!!!” She yelled as the air swiftly cut the air and pierced Naraku's shoulder. Naraku released Inuyasha as the purifying arrow cut into his flesh. Mouryoumaru's new body was strong since one of her arrows would have much more damage to it if it had been in its previous state.

“Inuyasha!” She yelled as she rushed to his side.

“Kagome…” He called out softly as he was finally able to breathe some air.

Naraku used this opportunity to swipe at the both of them with one of his tentacles. They were knocked into the air and roughly landed several feet away from Naraku.

“KAGOME-SAMA!”

“KAGOME-CHAN!”

“KAGOMEEEEEE!!!” The other companions shouted in succession.

“Inuyasha,” Naraku chided smoothly, “I thought you fought better when Kikyo's reincarnation was by your side.”

Inuyasha growled and stood up with Tetsusaiga poised to strike. “Shut-up, Naraku! I've heard enough of your rambling!!!” Energy formed around Tetsusaiga as Inuyasha took another shot at Naraku.

“KONGOU…SOUHA!” he bellowed as hundreds of diamond spears blasted towards Naraku's new body.

“Heh. That skill will not work on me.” He stated smugly as he used his new wings to fly out of the way. He didn't like the fact that his new body never utilized a barrier. He preferred to stand still rather than evade, it made him look more powerful that way. He still wanted to absorb Sesshoumaru, so he would allow his body to remain in a soft form more than the hard so that Inuyasha could scatter his flesh around, helping him achieve his goal. All I need to do is make sure I'm not in my soft form when that little miko decides to use her arrows. She is truly a nuisance. He thought annoyed.

Inuyasha sent a blast of the wind scar after Naraku as well. Naraku looked shocked as some of the diamond spears took off part of his left leg and the wind scar severed part of his right arm. Naraku made it look as if the attack was unavoidable and scowled.

Inuyasha was taken in by the performance. Heh. I knew it! He thought proudly. He's not used to Mouryoumaru's body! That's why I was able to affect him with the Bakuryuuha! No one else really noticed because they were too shocked at seeing Naraku's face on Mouyoumaru's body!!!

Sango didn't understand what was going on. First, Naraku's head is attached to Mouryoumaru's body, and now Inuyasha's attacks seemed to be working.

“Houshi-sama! What's going on?” She knew the monk would understand what she meant.

“I do not know, Sango. Maybe it is because Naraku is not yet used to this body. He did spend much time and effort constructing his other forms and hid from us as he did so.” Miroku did not sound very confident in his hypothesis, though.

“Hmm. I'm not so sure…maybe-“

Sango was quickly cut off by a frightened hanyou.

“KAGOME!!!” Inuyasha knew he wouldn't make it to her in time. There had only been a few instances where someone else needed to save Kagome. None of those times were excusable to Inuyasha, and he still mentally berated himself about them whenever she was near danger. Usually, Naraku never directly attacked Kagome and busied himself with toying with the inu-hanyou, so he wasn't standing defensively in front of her. He had thought she would've been safer if he kept Naraku's attention away from her instead. DAMN YOU, NARAKU!!! His heart was sinking as he felt like he was moving slower than he'd ever moved though the truth was quite the opposite. HOW COULD I BE SO STUPID? I SHOULD'VE BEEN STANDING IN FRONT OF HER THE WHOLE TIME!!!

Less than a second before Kagome was about to be slashed through with the now solid claw, Kohaku jumped from the brush and pulled her out of the way. She fell back on him, and Kohaku's body hit solid ground while hers landed safely on top of his.

“Kohaku-kun!” Kagome gasped. Kagome helped Kohaku sit up.

“KOHAKU!!!” Sango started running towards her little brother.

“Sango!” Miroku shouted. She is always so reckless when it comes to her little brother. It is too dangerous here for her to let herself lose focus of the situation. He thought worriedly.

“Kohaku…” Naraku said smoothly, “You will die today.”

“I'm counting on it!” Kohaku yelled back determinedly.

Naraku was slightly confused by the boy's statement, and though he didn't show it, the moment gave Inuyasha another opportunity to take Naraku's mind off of Kagome and put the attention on him once more. Inuyasha slashed at Naraku once again slicing off part of his body as it landed a few feet away.

“The only one that's going to die today is YOU, NARAKU!!!” Inuyasha snarled as he lunged at Naraku yet again.

As Kohaku acted as if he truly needed Kagome's help to stand holding her arm with one of his hands, he sadly said, “Gomen nasai, Kagome-sama…”

“Huh?!” Kagome said utterly perplexed as she felt his other hand touching her just above the chest where she kept the last Shikon shard they possessed.

“Kohaku! What the hell are you doing?!” Sango yelled in terror at what she saw her little brother just do. She had frozen in place before reaching even halfway to where the two of them were.

Just then, a figure stepped out from the trees holding an extremely long bow and a deadly look on her face. Kohaku ran over to her with the Shikon fragment.

“Here, Kikyo-sama.” Kohaku didn't look her in the eyes as he handed her part of the jewel. He didn't look anyone else in the eyes as he turned around while standing beside the dead priestess, either. He felt very conflicted. Kikyo's plan had sounded very reasonable to him, but he felt like he was betraying his sister and her friends. He had promised to stay and fight with Kikyo, but he had been having his doubts about helping her for awhile now.

“Ahh…Kikyo. I am assuming that you half that worthless wolf youkai's shards as well, then?” Naraku smiled maliciously at Inuyasha. He had stopped fighting with the hanyou to savor all of the pained expressions he would surely be making. Of course, he was a little surprised by Kohaku's actions as well as his words. Kohaku was helping Kikyo-and she was collecting shards for him…Hmm...he thought suspiciously. Perhaps she is planning on betraying me. No matter. When I have the completed jewel, even Kikyo will not be able to purify me.

“Ki-Kikyo?!” Inuyasha sputtered out. What the fuck is she doing?! She's in league with Naraku even after he tried to kill her? Does she hate me that much?!

Kikyo glided over to Naraku and handed him the shards. “You will need to retrieve Kohaku's shard for yourself. You placed it there, so you must take it on your own.” Kikyo moved to Naraku's side and faced everyone with cold eyes.

“Very well.” Naraku turned to face Inuyasha, “It seems our loathing of you runs stronger than our loathing of each other, Inuyasha.” He coolly explained. “Kikyo once again promised me fragments of the jewel so that we could be rid of you. It turns out; she wishes to have you suffer in Hell alone. Of course, our truce may only last as long as that time when you draw your last breath, but that is of no concern at the moment.”

“Kikyo…” Inuyasha painfully breathed out. How could you do this? What happened to you taking me to Hell with you after we defeated Naraku? Then he told himself angrily, I WON'T go to Hell ALONE!!!
