InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Even If You Cannot Hear My Voice ❯ Desperate Situation ( Chapter 9 )

“The foul stench of my half-brother is present.” Sesshoumaru informed Jaken with a twinge of annoyance.
Jaken, almost out of breath from yelling `Sesshoumaru-sama' for the hundredth time had finally caught up with his master.
“Sesshoumaru-sama…” he said once again,”What will you do, my Lord?”
Sesshoumaru shot a disdainful look at the frog youkai then stepped on him before the inu-youkai gracefully ascended the mountain.
Naraku gave Inuyasha a sinister smile before charging at Kohaku. Several tentacles shot out at the young demon slayer. He stood still, unafraid of his impending death. The same tentacles became hard and bone-like as Naraku's previous body had done once before surrounding and trapping Kikyo. And a single tentacle within the newly-made cage transformed a branch of itself into a soft appendage in order to retrieve the jewel shard.
“KOHAKU!!! NOOO!!!” screamed Sango. She had never been so terrified in all her life, nor so quick. She hurled Hiraikotsu at a converging point of the tentacles so she could sever them all while Inuyasha was already midair and about to attack Naraku from behind.
“DAMN YOU, NARAKU!!!” he bellowed as Tetsusaiga came crashing down on the half-demon.
Naraku audibly gasped as the Inuyasha was able to penetrate the armored skin on his back with dragon-scale Tetsusaiga; some of Naraku's energy was absorbed and effectively dissipated as well.
Naraku glared at the inu-hanyou and sent another appendage at him, this one as hard as was achieved by Mouryoumaru and pierced Inuyasha's left side as it slammed him into one of the nearby rock formations.
Naraku's gaze turned once again to Kohaku. The boy smiled at his sister as a single tear fell down his cheek. The taijiya's eyes widened when her little brother's face looked more peaceful than she had seen it in a long time.
“No, Kohaku…Don't give up!” She told herself more than Kohaku as she began to hack away at the grotesque arms trapping her brother. She found an opening in the cage and started to pull him out as Naraku launched a tentacle at the juvenile again.
Sango slashed at it with her sword while pulling her brother and cut off its end. She managed to completely free her brother from the cage but lost her balance with the force she had used to pull him, and they both tumbled to the ground.
Kohaku looked at his sister and softly muttered, “It's all right.” Kohaku then closed his eyes as another tentacle ripped the jewel shard from his back, snatching the life from young demon-slayer.
“KOHAKU!!!” Sango shrilly cried as she hugged and rocked her baby brother's lifeless body.
Miroku sprinted over to the mourning taijiya, and Shippou began to wail uncontrollably. The young miko did nothing but stand where she was, and an anger she had never known before began bubbling inside her.
A faint and clear blue light flared out from Kagome, and her hair began whipping from the wind her energy was causing.
Naraku greedily fused the last jewel shard to create the completed Shikon no Tama. He laughed excitedly as immense power surged through his black veins.
“NOW I CAN BECOME A FULL DEMON!!!” he roared unexpectedly.
Kikyo turned to Naraku and corrected him. “No. Now you can be purified.” A purifying arrow larger than any present had ever seen launched itself at Naraku engulfing him in its path.
Kikyo held a self-satisfied look before she said, “Heh. Pathetic half-demon.”
A maniacal laugh was heard before the light of Kikyo's arrow had died down. An uninjured Naraku smirked maliciously at the undead miko.
“Kikyo,” he said degradingly, “I have the completed Shikon no Tama. You cannot defeat me.”
Kikyo took a step back in horrified shock. This could not be happening. It was SHE who was entrusted the jewel over fifty years ago! SHE who had purified it to its core! SHE who was the only one who could possibly hope to purify it again!
“This…is not possible. Only I can purify the jewel.” She stately clearly, though she was obviously not as self-assured as a few moments prior to her attack.
“Kikyo,” Naraku explained as a parent to a child, “The Shikon no Tama was never fully purified…nor could it ever be...by you.”
Kikyo fell to her knees. Her long, black hair touched the ground, and she whispered, “Impossible.”
Inuyasha arose to his feet and snarled malevolently at Naraku as his voice became very demon-like. He was verging losing all control when he yelled,
“You will pay for Kohaku's death with your pathetic life, you fucking bastard!” Inuyasha's eyes flashed red, and his cheeks donned jagged purple stripes for no more than a second before he unleashed his rage on Naraku.
Inuyasha bellowed with vengeful ferocity,
“KONGOUYUUHA!!!!”
Diamond spears swirled in what were normally bakuryuuha's wind tornados. Inuyasha then hurled Kaze no Kizu at Naraku as well. Everyone looked up in surprise, save Kagome who was still staring straight in front of her. Naraku's body was being sliced into thousands of pieces as his demonic energy was being absorbed by dragon-scale Tetsusaiga.
Had it not been for the fact that Naraku's body was tied to the Sacred Jewel, he would have been not just destroyed but obliterated. His body began, though much slower than before, converging once again.
Desperate horror engulfed the hearts of all watching the body repair itself. The bitterness and hatred in them surfaced, and Naraku's body began reforming itself faster with each passing moment. Inuyasha had no choice but to give in to his exhaustion and collapsed to a low crouch, using Tetsusaiga to keep him from his hands and knees.
Sesshoumaru momentarily surveyed the scene before stepping through the edge of the trees and onto the mountain's hard, rocky terrain near the peak.
“This Sesshoumaru will do what you cannot, little brother.”
Inuyasha's sensitive ears picked up what his half-brother had said, but he given no indication that he had heard Sesshoumaru other than a flick from his right ear. He didn't really care about Sesshoumaru right now. Kohaku was dead. He had broken his promise to his friends. And Naraku was almost entirely whole again. Fuck. Inuyasha growled deep and low.
Sesshoumaru had emerged not two feet from the demon slayers. The acrid smell of
Death was on the male. Sesshoumaru looked at the body reforming behind the completed jewel and smirked. Interesting. He told himself as a Naraku-Mouryoumaru hybrid had appeared. He noticed that much of the body was lying apparently lifeless on the ground and scattered throughout the area. This Sesshoumaru cannot be absorbed.
Sango was still holding Kohaku and rocking him gently in her arms. Her face was flushed, and from her eyes, constant tears were flowing.
“Get up.” Sesshoumaru commanded as he unsheathed Tenseiga.
Sango backed away from her brother uneasily and gave a weary look to Miroku. He wrapped his arm around her shoulders and supported her weight.
Naraku, now whole again except for the pieces of himself he had purposefully left on the ground, glowered in absolute derision as the inu-youkai cut across the boy's body with his sword.
Kohaku's eyes fluttered open as he looked up astonished. “But I should be dead.” He said confused.
“OH KOHAKU!!!” Sango exclaimed in ecstasy. Miroku released his grasp, and Sango ran over to Kohaku and flung herself onto him. “YOU'RE ALIVE!!!”
She helped the boy to his feet and hugged him once more before throwing herself in front of Sesshoumaru.
“Arigato, Sesshoumaru-sama!” she thanked quickly before jumping out of his way.
“I only wish to show Naraku that he is powerless compared to me.” Sesshoumaru significantly declared.
“Kukuku…there are other ways to take the boy's life, Sesshoumaru,” Naraku explained dangerously. “Kanna.”
Kanna had kept to the outskirts of the fighting area, so it was easy for her to maneuver herself close to Kohaku unnoticed when the commotion surrounding Kohaku's resurrection was taking place.
The ghostly girl turned her mirror towards the newly saved boy and his eyes became blank as an equally ghostly wisp of energy headed toward the silver disk.
A gruff voice yelled, “I DON'T THINK SO!” And what looked like lightning coming from behind her pierced through Kanna's back as well as her mirror. The tips of Koga's fingers appeared to be covered in some sort of spiked weapon, presumably the Goraishi, as lightning cracked around both their bodies.
“AHH!” Koga yelled in pain as he grabbed his right wrist, keeping it steady.
When Kanna's mirror finally shattered, her eyes became clear and she said, “Gomen…mina…” Hundreds of souls burst through the mirror, including Kohaku's which promptly returned to his body. An unnatural whirlwind took the scattered remains of the mirror and what was left of Kanna's body, which were now nothing more than dust, away with it.
“Kagura…” Kohaku softly said as a slight smile graced his lips.
Koga had fallen to the ground because of the intensity of the pain. He knew that the jewel shards in his legs had affected the Goraishi, but he didn't think they would have a lasting affect on the weapon. I guess the damage had already been done. He thought to himself bitterly.
“Dammit.” Koga quietly cursed as his wounds from his earlier encounter with Kikyo and Kohaku were pouring blood once again.
Everything had progressed so quickly, that no one but Inuyasha had noticed that Kagome was now crackling with bright blue energy, looking fierce but calm.
“Ka-Kagome…” He said astounded. “What's happening to you?”
