"EVER AFTER"

"Well here I go again slipping a little farther into insanity" "I think I'll go to my special place, but don't worry they know me here"

Last time - Kagome suddenly felt fine, she sat up her cuts were fine and there was no pain, she smiled up at Inu-yasha and suddenly noticed that he was still crying, "Inu-yasha what's wrong?" "Kagome I love you to much to watch this happen again, goodbye Kagome, please remember that I always love you." Kagome felt a pull and she started to sink into darkness, "No… nooo," still she fell until she was almost consumed and she screamed his name one last time, "INU-YASHAAAAA…I love you too." Then the darkness faded and she was back in her time under the god tree, she curled up in a ball and cried until she fell asleep.

"Chapter 3"

After the wish, the whole group had come back to Keade's hut and talked for a bit, except Inu-yasha he sat in the corner and said nothing. Sango was crying about how she would miss Kagome, she of course understood why Inu-yasha had sent Kagome back but it still didn't make sense, he had protected Kagome before so why didn't he just do it again. Miroku sat next to Sango trying his best to comfort her and thinking about the battle, Naraku had finally been defeated and his Kazzana (the dark portal thing in his hand) was gone, and so was Kagome one of his best friends and he would never forget her. Shippo was furious how could Inu-yasha do this to Kagome he wouldn't just sit here quietly he was going to give Inu-yasha a piece of his mind, "Inu-yasha why did you do that," tears started streaming down his face, "Kagome would have been fine here we all would have protected her together." Inu-yasha just sat there his face buried in his arm, but Shippo wasn't done, "Inu-yasha listen to me you fucking bastard," everyone's head shot up at this, except Inu-yasha's, Shippo had never spoken like this before, "I hate you for this, I wish you would go away and never come back, do you hear me I HATE YOU." Suddenly Inu-yasha stood up, "I'm sorry Shippo," every one looked right at Inu-yasha's face, he had never said that word before, when they looked at his face, everyone knew he was serious because he had tears streaming down his face and Inu-yasha never cried; the site even made Shippo be quite. "I'm sorry all of you, and your right for hating me," after a long pause he started talking again, "I am going to leave now, just like you said Shippo, but I will be back but the next time you see me I will have my Kagome back, until then I will miss you all." Inu-yasha was almost out the door when he turned around and said one last thing, "Shippo take care of them, and you will see Kagome again, even it takes a lifetime." Then he walked out the door and soared away leaving everyone else in the hut sad and confused.

Inu-yasha felt like he could die, he had just let his true love slip away from between his fingers and he was not going to let it happen this way. Part of him chuckled at the odd sense of irony that could be found in the fact that his wish had started all this, but enough of that he had to find a way to bring his Kagome back.

-----Switch to modern era-----

Kagome woke up and realized that she was not under the god tree anymore; she was in her own bed. She looked around and started to come to her senses, the battled with Naraku, her being separated from Inu-yasha, maybe it was a bad dream. She ran down stairs, past her mother, out the front door, and to the well house. She quickly open the doors and jumped in, only to be met with dirt, she started clawing and the ground, desperate to get back to Inu-yasha but it wasn't working.

After and hour Kagome walked back inside the house and sat down on the couch, her mother walked over and smiled at her, "Kagome I found you out under the god tree sleeping this afternoon and now your crying, what's wrong dear." "Mama I got separated from Inu-yasha and now I can't go back," tears welled up in her eyes and she felt herself starting to cry again. "Well, maybe in a few days you can use the well again, never give up hope dear, now dinners ready if you want to eat." Kagome got up still saddened, but maybe her mother was right she would just have to wait for now

It had been a week since the horrible incident and Kagome had tried the well at least two times a day, once on her way to school and once on the way back, it still didn't work. She cried herself to sleep every night, thinking about him and nothing seemed to make the pain go away, despite all the free time she found herself failing her classes. She didn't really spend time with her friends anymore since all they wanted her to do was forget about her selfish boyfriend and date Hojo, finally one day she got fed up with them telling her what to do and told them to go to hell, they hadn't talked much after that. All she really did was think, mostly about him and how to get him back, she had tried spells, and ever trinket her grandfather had but nothing was working, for now all she could do was wait and pray that her Inu-yasha would find a way back to her.

-----Switch to feudal era-----

Inu-yasha had spent the last week looking for a way to find his Kagome again, he had tried every spell Myouga knew, he tried spells that all the miko's and monks he could find had suggested and nothing worked. He followed any and every rumor until there were no more. Fine, he thought, if there wasn't a way to bring her back then he would make one, he would do, and pay, whatever he had to in order to bring her back to him, for now he would train and search.

Sango, Miroku and Shippo had moved into Kaede's village and were trying to get back to there lives, this was becoming difficult with out Kagome or Inu-yasha there and who knew how long it would be before he came back. Miroku and Sango's relationship was beginning to become more serious, Shippo had started to spend his time helping Kaede with the village, and for now all they could do was wait.

TWO YEARS LATER…

Kagome world would never be the same, granted she didn't cry herself to sleep every night, only on bad days, and she didn't jump into the well twice a day, she only did that once a day now, but she would still never be the same. She was about to turn twenty in a couple days, her last birthday was like a nightmare she hadn't come out of her room for two days since Inu-yasha couldn't be there with her. She had mad up with her friends and they all made sure to get together for lunch once a week and talk about things like the weather and each other's lives, as long and Inu-yasha didn't come up then it was fine. The thing was, Kagome just wasn't happy anymore, all of her friends could tell and just didn't talk about it, she almost never smiled and she no longer had her happy go lucky attitude. She still lived at the shrine, she made up lots of excuses why she didn't get her own place but she knew the real reason she didn't leave was because she wanted to be there if Inu-yasha came back to get her.

Kagome's mother was starting to worry, well she always worried but she was really starting to worry, Kagome was getting worse it something didn't happen soon, or more specifically, if Inu-yasha didn't find a way back to her daughter then Kagome might, well she hated to say it but Kagome was dieing. She ate less and less and her loss of appetite was matched only by her loss of will to sleep, she slept one maybe three hours a night, in truth most of Kagome's life was just a disguise for the pain she held inside, all Kagome really did was sit under the god tree and stare into the sky. Her daughter was dieing and she couldn't stop it, but if she knew Inu-yasha he would save her, so really, there was no reason to worry but well she was a mother it was her job and so worry she did.

-----Switch to feudal era-----

Inu-yasha soared over the forest thinking about the past three years, he had been training with all his heart and soul so that when he got his Kagome back he would be able to protect her, he was as fast and as strong as Sesshoumaru and had finally learned to think while fighting. He had also picked up a few tricks while he trained including some healing powers so that if Kagome ever got hurt she could depend on him, in fact everything he had done in the past year revolved around Kagome. He had even spent a little time in a castle trying to brush up on that thing Kagome called manners, but that hadn't lasted very long. He had finally made up with Sesshoumaru and even thought they weren't the best of friends they didn't really fight anymore, in fact, Sesshoumaru even had a house built for Inu-yasha, well it was more of a castle than a house, but Inu-yasha hardly spent anytime there, though he planned to when he found his Kagome. Inu-yasha looked down to see that the forest had gotten black and uninviting, at last he had found it, he had heard a rumor of a great youkai that had been sealed away, the rumor said that he would grant any wish to the person that freed him.

Inu-yasha had found the place he was looking for, it was a hole about 30 feet across and it looked like it would never end, oh well Inu-yasha thought if it doesn't work it wouldn't be the first time, and he jumped in. He felt like he had been falling for five minuets the opening above him looked like a dot above him, he saw the floor approaching him and landed softly, he pulled out a flashlight Kagome had left behind, since she didn't have time to grab her bag, and clicked it on. There was a round object in the middle of the cavern that looked like a ten foot tall glass marble, the inside of the marble started to turn red and swirl about, then a large face appeared. The face had dark red skin and two blue horns coming out from the top of its head, its teeth were a brilliant white with two long fangs pointing out from inside his mouth. "Who is it that awakens me?"

"It is I; Inu-yasha and I have come to free you under one condition"

"And what is this condition"

"You must grant me one wish"

"Speak it so that I may go free"

"I wish that the well by the god tree in the western lands could once again be use to carry people from this age to Kagome's. If this wish is granted I will set you free."

"It has been done"

"And how do I know that what you say is true"

"Do you smell a lie in this room boy?"

"No, I thank you and now you shall go free, however if you harm anyone then I will destroy you"

"Then you will have to destroy me boy for my only purpose is to cause suffering"

"Fine then I will stop you when the time has comes, but for now I will hold up my end of the bargain."

"Kaza no kiza," the swords path collided with the barrier concealing the youkai and easily ripped it in half, and the youkai fled upward Inu-yasha thought momentarily about what he had just done and the realized that he could finally have his Kagome back. As if a million pounds had been lifted from his shoulders Inu-yasha leapt out of the chasm in a single bound and began to race back to the western lands, and the well.

Miroku was tending the garden with his wife, Sango, outside there house when suddenly he sensed a huge Jaki, something had been released and it was defiantly not good, even Naraku had not been this strong. For now, it was a long distance away, which both worried and calmed him, for if it was far away then it could not hurt his beautiful Sango or his daughter, but for jaki to be felt this far away, it had to be immense.

-----Switch to modern era-----

Kagome had woken up, skipped breakfast and was out helping her mother sweep the courtyard, "Mama I'm almost done sweeping, I think I'll try the well for a minuet." "Ok sweetie but be careful," "Yes mama." Kagome slowly walked to the well house and thought to herself, I can't keep doing this, please kami let this work, she hopped over the side of the well and was engulfed in light and began to float.

Kagome's mother saw a strange light coming from the well and ran to see what it was, when she got there Kagome was nowhere to be seen and so she knew it had finally worked, o thank kami, and then she wondered if Kagome would be able to get back, oh no now I have to worry about something else.

Kagome felt the floating effect end and her feet touched solid ground again, please let this be happening she thought as the woodsy smell filled her nose, she quickly climbed out of the well and her eyes started to water at what she saw. She had some how made it back to the feudal era and she couldn't believe it she rubbed her eyes and laughed she started to back up and tripped over her own feet and started to fall backwards, before she could hit the ground two arms grabbed her and set her in someone's lap. Please be him, please be him she thought, and then she looked up, it was Inu-yasha just as gorgeous as ever she looked up at him and started to cry.

Inu-yasha thought he must be in heaven, and his angel was in his lap staring up at him, she was just as beautiful as ever he thought. "Don't cry Kagome, I'm here and I'm never going to leave," and he brought his lips down to capture hers in a passion filled kiss the carried it with is all the emotions he had felt for the last year. He's kissing me oh no, oh yes thank you and she moaned into the kiss and felt his tongue slip into her mouth.
