Falling For Her

Chapter 2

Kagome woke up the next morning with a pounding headache. She groans and rolls over in bed. When she opens her eyes, she sees Sango sitting up in her own bed with worried eyes.

"Are you alright, Kagome? Hangover?"

Everything came back to her all at once. Going to the party. Meeting Jakotsu. Kissing Koga. Her talk with both Jakotsu and Inuyasha. Her growing feelings for Sango...

'I'm.. I'm actually gay.'

This realization made much more sense to her than she thought it would. Why else would she get so mad when people assumed she was 'with' Inuyasha? Why else would she always get a feeling of 'wrongness' when a guy - any guy - made a move on her? She always felt more comfortable around her female friends, even though she never had romantic feelings for any of them. But now that she thinks about it, she has subconsciously 'looked' and noticed women in the past. It didn't seem sexual or wrong in her mind so she didn't feel like it was attraction, especially because she never actually knew what those feelings should feel like.

Then she met Sango. She immediately noticed how beautiful she is. How nice and sweet and thoughtful and just, perfect. At first, she thought it was just a deeper connection then she has never had with another female friend before. Than last night... Everything made much more sense, even if she was confused. Like, how did she go eighteen years and just not know? Was she really that naive? Or was she just in denial?

She shook her head of those thoughts and inwardly smiles to herself. It's like a weight has been lifted off her shoulders. She knows more about herself today then she did even twenty-four hours ago.

She slowly sits up in bed, closes her eyes and puts a hand to her head to try and wave off the dizziness and pounding against her skull.

"Here."

She looks up to see Sango handing her a bottle of water.

"Th-thanks."

She grabs the water and drinks it slowly. Sango sits down next to her on the bed. She blushes at the sudden closeness of her friend. The friend she just now realized she is starting to like.

"Are you okay? Do you need Tylenol or Advil or something?"

Kagome looks over into Sango's worried gaze. She is now just realizing just how close she actually is. Their legs touching and faces only half a foot apart.

"Uh. S-sure."

Sango gets up and grabs her some Tylenol. After Kagome takes that down, she picks up her phone and checks her messages. She has one from Inuyasha and one from Kikyo. She checks the one from Kikyo first.

[SMS received from: Fav Cousin] - Hey, can we meet up for coffee tomorrow?

She notices the text was received the night before, so she checks the time and is glad that she didn't sleep in too late.

[SMS sent to: Fav Cousin] - Sure. I could definitely use some caffeine.

After responding to her cousin, she checks Inuyasha's message.

[SMS received from: Dog-Boy] - Hey, 'Gome. Kikyo and I had a fight.. She has it in her head that there is something between you and me. Just wanted to warn you in case she asks a bunch of questions. Don't worry, I didn't tell her what you told me last night. Let me know how you are feeling in the morning. See ya later.

Kagome groaned and angrily typed her reply.

[SMS sent to: Dog-Boy] - Damn it! Why the hell can't people just believe we can just be friends!? Should I just get a damn bull horn and shout from the rooftops that I'm gay!?

Kagome slammed her phone down on the bed next to her and crosses her arms.

"Are you okay?"

She looks up to see Sango sitting at her desk with those worried eyes again. She is getting tired of people worrying over her. She's not a child!

"I'm just fine. I've been here for less then a week, classes start tomorrow and I'm already in the middle of a bunch of drama."

"What happened?"

She opens her mouth to respond but closes it when her phone dinged. She picked it up and read her message.

[SMS received from: Dog-Boy] - Damn. If that's what ya wanna do, I won't stop you. But I gotta say, doesn't sound like a great plan. Maybe just talk to Kikyo? I'm sure she will understand. You don't have to tell her though if you aren't comfortable. I promise I won't tell her, no matter how angry she gets with me.

[SMS: sent to: Dog-Boy] - Thanks Inuyasha. You really are a great friend. I'm going to have coffee with her so I'll text you later.

As she was setting her phone down, she got an incoming message from her cousin. She rolled her eyes and responded.

[SMS: received from: Fav Cousin] - Great. Meet you at the same cafe as before in thirty minutes.

[SMS: sent to: Fav Cousin] - K.

"Ugghhhh. What is with people thinking I'm into Inuyasha!?"

Sango shrugged her shoulders, "maybe it's just because of how close you two are. It is pretty uncommon to be that close and not have any feelings at all."

Kagome rolled her eyes. "Do you at least believe me?"

"Of course. I don't see any reason for you to lie to me."

Kagome smiled and stood up to start getting ready for her annoying coffee date. As she was about to leave the room to head to the showers, Sango spoke up.

"Hey, uh.. So, do you like Koga?"

Kagome groaned and turned back to respond. "No. The kiss was a mistake. It shouldn't have happened." Before Sango could say something in response, Kagome continued. "I'm going to meet Kikyo for coffee after my shower. I'll see you later." Then she left without another word.

Sango took a deep breath in and out. 'She didn't like kissing him.' She smiled to herself.

~•~

After Kagome finished with her morning ritual, she headed towards the same cafe she enjoyed so much the other day. As soon as she walked in, she spotted her cousin. She rolled her eyes and decided to order her favorite drink. French vanilla latte with extra whipped cream, but with two extra shots of espresso this time. She could really use the pick-me-up this morning.

She silently sat down across from her cousin and waited for the inevitable.

"You have feelings for Inuyasha." It wasn't a question.

Kagome's eye twitches.

"No." She sips on her coffee slowly, waiting for more pointless accusations.

"Kagome."

"Kikyo." She mocks in response.

Kikyo sighs and tries again. "If you have feelings for my boyfriend, you can tell me. I just need to know."

Kagome rolled her eyes and took a long lingering swig of her drink. "What is this about? You have been together for three years and now you think I have feelings for him? He is my friend! My best friend. He is like a brother. I love him the same way I love Souta!" She angrily chugged some more of her liquid courage and than slammed it back onto the table.

"What were you two talking about last night?"

Kagome visibly stiffened and looked down at her already half drinkin' coffee.

"Kagome, this is precisely why I believe there is more to you two than either of you are saying."

Kagome looks around and notices there are no demons around with super hearing and none of the humans are within ear shot. She takes a deep breath in and lets it out slowly.

"Kikyo. I don't like him like that. We were talking about something that I didn't fully realize about myself until last night. I was in a sort of bad place and he was helping me through it. That's all."

Kikyo put her hand on top of Kagome's, causing Kagome to finally look into her cousins eyes.

"You can tell me anything Kagome. I'm sorry for being jealous. It's just kind of hard for me, when he is the person you go to with everything. He wouldn't even tell me what you spoke about."

Kagome smiled as she took another sip of her latte. "That's because he's a good guy, Kikyo. He didn't want to betray my trust."

Kikyo squeezed Kagome's hand and frowned, "You can't tell me, can you?"

Kagome took another look around the cafe, looked back down at her coffee so she didn't have to make eye contact, and than spoke softly so only her cousin could hear. "I.. I don't like guys, Kikyo."

Kikyo's eyes widened. "Huh?"

Kagome looked into the confused eyes of her older cousin. "I.. I'm.." She took a calming breath in and spoke the next words hesitantly. "I'm gay." Kagome let out a sad laugh. "That was actually the first time I said those words out loud."

"I.. uh.. Don't know what to say..." After a long and awkward pause, Kikyo continued. "I'm sorry I didn't trust you."

Kagome shook her head and gave Kikyo a sad smile. "I understand. I guess if I was normal, I would have liked Inuyasha that way. I never knew I was different until recently."

Kikyo stood up from her seat and moved to sit in the seat next to Kagome. She immediately wrapped her arms around her cousin.

"This doesn't mean you aren't normal, Kagome. You're still my cousin and I still love you. Inuyasha is still your best friend. I'm sorry I jumped to conclusions."

Kagome burried her face in Kikyo's neck and let out a sob. "I just don't know what to do now. I let Koga take my first kiss and it was just wrong. I have feelings for..." Kagome immediately stopped breathing at that unconscious admission.

Kikyo pulled away and moved a strand of Kagome's hair to behind her ear. "You have a crush?"

Kagome let out the breath she was holding and rolled her eyes playfully. "Don't look at me like that."

Kikyo smiled. "Like what?"

"Like I'm in middle school with her first crush on a boy!"

Kikyo laughed. "No, you're in college with your first crush on a girl."

Kagome groaned and put her face in her hands. Kikyo laughed and wrapped Kagome up in a half hug.

"You don't have to tell me more. I'm just glad you told me anything at all. You can trust me, Kags."

Kagome looked back at her cousin and smiled. Before she could say anthing more though, Inuyasha came and sat down across from them.

"Looks like you haven't killed each other yet."

They rolled their eyes and took sips of their coffees simultaneously.

"You alright, 'Gome?"

Kagome smiled and nodded. "Yeah. We talked and I told her everything. I'm sorry I put a wedge between you two."

"Don't worry 'bout it. It would take a hell of a lot to break us."

Kikyo stood up and sat next to her boyfriend. She gave him a lingering kiss and then looked back at her smiling cousin.

"Kagome!"

Kagome turned to see Sango rushing up and then sitting next to her. She gave her a friendly hug before pulling away. Kagome felt as if the hug didn't last nearly long enough.

"Hey, Sango. I said I would be back soon."

"Sorry. I was just worried about you. You seemed like you were in a bad place when you left, plus with the hangover I just wanted to make sure you were okay."

Kagome blushed and looked back down at her mostly empty drink. "Well, uh.. thanks. I'm much better now." She glanced up to her best friend and cousin and saw their knowing looks. She blushed even more before looking away.

"I'm glad everything is good." Sango replied.

"Thanks." Kagome smiled and put her latte to her lips to try and hide her blush. The fluttering in her chest is not helping matters any.

The rest of their morning went by as well as Kagome could have hoped. Inuyasha and Kikyo left shortly after Sango had arrived, they both gave Kagome knowing looks. Inuyasha smirked at her while Kikyo winked. She was just happy that Sango seemed to not notice. She was also happy that Sango hadn't moved to sit across from her instead of next to her. They sat rather close to each other, legs barely touching, while talking about their upcoming classes. Apparently they are in the same Core English class because Kagome is advanced in that course so she is taking third year English with Sango.

After leaving the cafe, they decided to take a walk around campus. It was the beginning of April, so there was a light breeze outside. It was the perfect temperature for a mid-day walk.

Kagome noticed that every now and then, Sango would brush her hand up against Kagome's arm when trying to get her closer attention. She would unabashedly grab her hand when trying to lead her somewhere. She would lean in close to whisper in her ear when telling her something she didn't want others to hear. The more they hung out, the more she liked her. Her main problem; she has absolutely zero gay-dar. She made a mental note to speak with Jakotsu at some point about her little problem.

After they had lunch at the Sushi place they both enjoyed so much, they decided to go to one of the campus shops to pick up any last minute items they may need for classes. They grabbed any text books they didn't have yet, binders, pencils and pens, and they each grabbed a new book bag.

When they finally made it back to the dorm, it was already past dinner time so they decided to just take their nightly showers, brush their teeth and put their pajamas on. They stayed up a little longer to talk about upcoming classes. Kagome learned that Sango is going to school for professional Martial Arts, and Sango learned about Kagome's Miko abilities and how she is studying to become a doctor.

By nine o'clock, they decided to go to bed so they could be well rested for classes in the morning. After saying goodnight, they climbed into their separate beds and closed their eyes with smiles on each of their faces.

~•~

Kagome opened her eyes when she felt a new weight make itself known in her bed. She is laying with her back against the wall, facing the opposite direction on her left side. What she sees upon waking up confused her, but also made her heart race. Sango climbed in bed next to her, mere inches from her face. Kagome's breath catches when Sango moves a strand of hair from Kagome's face to behind her ear.

"S-Sango?"

Sango puts a finger to her own mouth in a 'sshh' type of gesture before leaning in and catching Kagome's lips with her own. Kagome is completely shocked, eyes wide and body completely still. Her heart starts to race at a dangerous speed and butterflies erupt in her stomach.

The shock lasts all of three seconds before Kagome closes her eyes, pulls Sango even closer by the back of her head and moves her lips along with her. Sango lightly touches Kagome's bottom lip with her tongue, causing Kagome to moan softly into her mouth.

Kagome takes the kiss further by partly climbing on top of Sango and probing her mouth with her own tongue. Sango happily opens her mouth to allow the moist appendage through. The second their tongues collide for the first time, they let out simultaneous moans.

Sango wraps her arms around Kagome's back in order to pull her closer to her body. Their breasts rub against each other through their pajama tops, neither of them wearing bras. Kagome's head is going crazy. She never felt anything like this before. She wanted more. Her mind was screaming at her for more. More.

Unfortunately though, they both needed to come up for air so Kagome pulled away and put her forehead against Sango's, while taking deep and excited breaths.

"Sango, I -"

She never got to complete that sentence because her alarm went off, waking her up from the best dream she has ever had.

Kagome's eyes shot open and she looked around dazed for a moment. Her bed is empty and Sango is also just waking up on the other side of the room. She turned her alarm off and fell back against her pillow.

Kagome put a hand to her face and closed her eyes, taking calming breaths in and out. Never in her life had she dreamt about anyone in that way. Kissing Koga felt weird, wrong and disgusting. And even though Kissing Sango was just a dream, her heart is still racing and butterflies are still fluttering as if it had actually happened. Nothing felt more right before in her life than what had happened in her dream.

"Kagome? You okay?"

Kagome put a hand to her still racing heart and looked over at Sango currently sitting up in bed.

"Y-Yeah. Dream." She blushed and looked away from her friend. It feels wrong that she just had a dream like that about Sango, no matter how right it actually felt to be doing those things with her.

"Bad dream? I get those too. Come on, let's get ready for our first day of classes. I'm sure you're excited."

Kagome immediately sat up in bed with a huge grin on her face. She squealed happily, amazing dream momentarily forgotten. "I can't believe I'm beginning classes to start earning my way to healing people!" She jumped out of bed and ran to her closet where she grabbed an outfit she thought was just right for her first day and layed it on the bed for now.

Sango smiled and shook her head at the excitement and happiness radiating from her friend. She remembers her first day of University, and even though she wasn't nearly as enthusiastic, she was still very excited. She grabs her own outfit and puts it out on her bed before following Kagome to the shared bathrooms where they brushed their teeth and hair, applied any necessary makeup, and then went back to their room to get dressed. Kagome made sure to have her back turned while dressing, feeling like she might be overstepping since her feelings for Sango are past platonic at this point. Sango, with the same mindset, did the same.

When they were ready, they left for their favorite cafe to grab breakfast and coffee and then Sango walked Kagome to her first class since Kagome was still a little unsure of the layout of campus. Sango went to her own class afterwards to start the first day of what seems to be a great new school year.

~•~

Three long weeks have gone by since their first day of classes at Shikon University. Kagome and Sango have set a routine of waking up early on weekdays to get ready for their day, going to Gentle Roast Cafe, then a full day of classes.

Kagome joined Kyūdō to work on her archery skills on Monday's, Wednesday's, and Friday's after her main courses. While Kagome is at Kyūdō, Sango is at her martial arts class to work on budō, bujutsu, and bugei. On Tuesday's and Thursday's, they share the same English class along with separate Math courses and Kagome also takes a specific science class because of her career choice.

After classes on Tuesday's and Thursday's, they spend a few hours at the library studying with their group of friends. Inuyasha, Kikyo, Miroku, Jakotsu, Koga, and a new freshman Ayame that they had recently met, all meet up with Kagome and Sango to help each other in their respective classes.

Kagome spoke to Koga a few days after that party to apologize and nicely tell him she is not in the headspace to start a relationship right now. Although Koga still let's his feelings known, he has respected her decision and hasn't pushed her into anything she doesn't want.

Kagome and a female wolf demon Ayame are the only freshman of the group, so they tend to study quite a bit together. Ayame has been very forward in her jealousy of Kagome when it comes to Koga's advances, but Kagome told her she is not interested at all. She isn't quite ready to come out about her sexuality just yet, so that piece of information has been kept private. The only people who know are Inuyasha, Kikyo and Jakotsu. She hasn't even spoken to her mother about it, which she is starting to feel a little bad about because she knows her mother will be understanding, but she can't help but to be nervous.

While Kagome and Ayame are the babies of the group, barely legal eighteen year olds, Inuyasha is just one grade above them. Kagome's older cousin Kikyo is a junior along with Sango, Koga and Jakotsu. Moroku is the old man of the group at twenty-one years old and in his fourth and final year here at Shikon University.

These past three weeks have been filled with endless studying but they all make sure to get together on Saturday's and Sunday's for some time to unload and relax. Sometimes it is just Kagome and Sango, which they both secretly prefer. Sometimes Kagome hangs out with just Inuyasha like the good old days. Other times, Kagome and Ayame do things together just the two of them. Inuyasha and Kikyo spend some nights together as just an ordinary couple. Most of the time though, the entire group of misfits get together and play games such as truth or dare, (Jakotsu made a rule not to ask about sexuality, Kagome was very grateful. Inuyasha made a rule not to dare anything sexual, much to Miroku and Jakotsu's chagrin). They would also play card games with a twist to make it into a fun drinking game, like if they played Go Fish and someone was correct, then the person giving the cards would have to take a shot for each card they give up. Or if the person needs to go fish in the pile, then they have to take a shot.

Kagome has been doing well to ignore the knowing glances from Inuyasha and Kikyo whenever she is around Sango and now Jakotsu, the loudest and most sexual one of all, even more than Miroku, has been giving her secret pointers on how to get into Sango's pants. Kagome really started to regret confiding in him about a certain recurring dream she keeps on having, which is tending to get even more intense as of late. Jakotsu swears up and down that Sango looks at Kagome in a way that she doesn't look at anyone else, but she can't believe that it means anything more than friendship. He says his gay-dar tingles when around her but isn't off the scale like it was when he first met Kagome at the party. Kagome rolled her eyes at that and shook her head.

Now that it is finally Saturday once again and the first week of May, Sango and Kagome decided to go to the beach for a day of relaxation. Their other friends wanted to go see a movie, but they wanted to be out in the sun for once. They are currently dressed in bikini's underneath of their summer clothes, because it is quite a hot day outside for it only being May. Kagome is wearing a crimson colored two piece underneath of her light blue spaghetti strap and short jean shorts. Sango is wearing a hot pink two piece underneath her black spaghetti strap and a knee-high white skirt with a light pink floral pattern.

Their bags fully packed with snacks, water, towels and some other beach items, they turned to each other and smiled.

"Ready to go, Kagome?"

"Yup! I haven't been to the beach here yet. I still can't believe it's only a five minute walk off campus!"

Sango chuckled and held her arm out by the elbow. The same gesture that Miroku had done with them both on the night of the party. Kagome smiled semi-shyly and linked her arm with Sango's.

They walked to the beach in comfortable silence, both thinking about their feelings for the other. Kagome can't believe or understand how her feelings have grown for Sango so fast in only a month of knowing her and only three weeks of understanding and coming to terms with her own sexuality.

'If I were straight, I could just up and kiss a guy to see if he liked me back. Can't really do that not knowing her damn sexuality.'

Kagome silently berated herself for thinking that way. She isn't ashamed of being lesbian, she is happy that she finally understands this big part of herself. She is just now understanding how much more difficult it is to see if Sango likes her back then any guy she had ever met.

With Hojo, it was easy. He would constantly bring her gifts and ask her out on dates. She would accept the gifts gracefully and politely decline going out with him. Then her three nosey friends would push her into his waiting arms, and she would awkwardly sit through a movie or dinner with him. He tried to kiss her once while dropping her back off at home and she quickly turned her head, his lips colliding with her cheek. She had said a very fast and awkward goodbye before rushing inside, wiping off her cheek disgustingly. She felt so bad for Hojo. He was really sweet and caring. Her friends were jealous that the 'hot older guy' liked her so much.

Then there was Inuyasha. She knew him since they were little kids. She knew he had a small crush on her when they were younger, which was the main reason she introduced him to her cousin. She didn't want to hurt his feelings and she wanted him as her best friend forever. She was relieved when he fell for Kikyo and then caught them kissing under the Goshinboku.

Koga was definitely the most forward guy she has ever met. Not only did he just outright exclaim that she is a virgin, but he immediately wanted to go out on a date and called her beautiful. Sure, the attention and compliments felt good and boosted her self asteem, but it still felt wrong. She still feels bad for practically using him. She had given him her first kiss just to see if she could feel anything. She felt nothing but negative emotions from that kiss.

Talking with Jakotsu had been enlightening. She was really happy he was there that night, even if the guy could be very crude and too honest at times. He was very helpful in her figuring out what was wrong with her. She berated herself silently once again for the choice of words her mind used. She knows there is nothing wrong with her. She accepts that. She just isn't quite used to it yet.

Inuyasha really helped her feel better too. She always loved that he was there for her. He was always a shoulder to cry on and a warm body to hug when she needed it.

Those guys. It was always easy to tell when a guy was interested in her. But with a woman? With Sango? She is completely clueless. Sango is absolutely beautiful. She is so caring and attentive to Kagome as if they have been friends all their lives. One thing is for sure, Kagome knows Sango has an attraction to guys. She mentioned Inuyasha being cute. She admitted that Miroku was hot but too pushy and too much of a womanizer for her liking. Jakotsu said his gay-dar tingles around Sango. Could that mean she is bisexual and just not too easy to read?

Kagome stole a side glance at the woman still linked by the arm. She looked away and smiled inwardly to herself. Even if Sango is straight, she is so happy to have met her and become her close friend. If she is in fact bisexual or lesbian, than she will figure out just what to do with that information. Kagome still has to find out if she would even be her type. For all she knows, Kagome could be the opposite of what Sango is looking for. Sure, Sango called her pretty but pretty can mean many things in Kagome's mind. It could mean she is pretty in a sense that Sango likes, or it could mean she sees that other people might see her as pretty and she acknowledges that.

Kagome shakes her head to get those intrusive thoughts away for the moment. There is no need to be thinking too hard about it right now anyway. They finally just arrived at the beach and they are here for some fun and relaxation damn it!

"Come on." Sango grabbed Kagome's hand and pulled her along through the sand to set up a nice spot not too far or too close to the waters edge.

Once they got to a fairly secluded spot still hand in hand, Sango hesitantly pulled away to grab their beach towels and lay them side by side in the sand. Kagome blushed at the realization that they were holding hands. She took a deep breath in to rein in her nerves and helped Sango with the other beach supplies.

When Kagome turned around from pulling out the waters, her breath caught. Sango had already taken off her skirt, leaving her in her hot pink bikini bottoms. Kagome had turned just in time to see Sango lift her tank top over her head and throw it to the side. Sango's full breasts had bounced slightly with the movement. Kagome's face flamed when she realized she was staring. She turned away to hide her deep blush. She is almost positive Sango hadn't noticed at least.

She let out a shaky breath and proceeded to undress also, refusing to look at Sango as she did so, her embarrassment still evident on her face and slightly shaking hands.

If she had looked at Sango, she might have noticed Sango's own blush while watching Kagome before her in nothing but a sexy crimson two piece, her own breasts bouncing from the movement.

Kagome took a moment to steal herself from the sudden emotions of seeing Sango undressing. She felt a warmth in her abdomen that needed to be tamped down. She grabbed one of the cold water bottles and drank some greedily. A cold shower. That's what she needs. She mentally slapped herself and called herself stupid at the realization that there is a nice cold ocean at their fingertips.

She turned to Sango and smiled brightly, hoping Sango would believe her blush is from the heat of the sun and not the heat of her desire.

"I think I could go for a swim."

Sango swallowed the sudden lump in her throat and nodded her head dumbly. "M-me too."

Kagome threw her half full bottle of water back into the small cooler and turned back to walk towards the water with Sango. All of a sudden, the silence was deafening. Before, they were in a comfortable silence happily. Now it feels strained and awkward. Maybe it is just her, but she needs to do something that will take her mind off of the mostly naked woman next to her.

"I'll race ya!" And she took off running.

She knew she was being childish, but she didn't care. She needed something, anything, to distract her from Sango's insanely fuckable body. She almost tripped when that thought crossed her mind, but she shook her head and kept on running.

Sango started laughing, glad for the distraction. "What are you, ten!?" But she chased after her anyway.

Kagome had just about made it to the waters edge when Sango sped past her and jumped in with a big splash. Kagome skidded to a halt a gaped at her.

"How are you so fast!?"

Sango started giggling, half panting from the exertion. "You forget that I am a fighter? I'm used to it. I have a lot of stamina."

The thoughts immediately flooded Kagome's mind with the one word; stamina. Thinking about Sango on top of her, kissing her, feeling her, licking her. For hours. Testing how long her stamina can trully last. Kagome shivered at the thought, even though her body is blazing hot.

Water. She needs to cool off. Oh, right. Ocean.

She shook her head and went right into the water, the cold immediately cooling her off but the feeling of desire is still very much at the surface.

"Well, I find that to be a little unfair for a race." Kagome feined hurt as she pouted, trying something, anything, to get her mind off of a naked Sango having her way with her.

Sango laughed again. Gods, how Kagome loved her laugh. "You're the one that wanted to race, and you even got a head start! It's not my fault you're slow." She laughed again.

"Hey! I'm not that slow!" Kagome splashed water in Sango's face in retaliation of the insult.

Sango sputtered from the water for a second than gave Kagome an evil smirk. "It's on."

She threw wave after wave of ocean water at Kagome. Kagome shreaked and blocked her face with her arms, slightly ducking her head. She started laughing uncontrollably before taking a deep breath in and diving under the water. She swam over and came up behind Sango to surprise attack. She pulled a small bit of her reiki in order to cause a larger wave and then sent it through the water. Sango's entire head was soaked and she spun around, wide eyed, looking at Kagome with complete awe.

Sango then grinned widely at her opponent. "And you said that cheated!" She laughed and shook her head in amusement. "You used your powers to throw water on my head!"

They both fell into a fit of uncontrollable laughter at the hilarity of the situation and their equal antics.

When they finally came down from the emotional high, they both realized just how close they were to each other. Their faces are only about six inches apart. They can see the individual water droplets on the other's skin. Kagome got the immediate thought of wanting to run her tongue along Sango's wet body. Then her senses detected something big approaching and she looked to her left. Her eyes widened.

"Sango?"

Sango shook her head from her own thoughts and followed Kagome's eye sight.

"Holy shit. That's a big wave!"

Sango grabbed Kagome's hand without a second thought. They looked at the other and gave a small squeeze of their hands before taking big breaths and diving below the wave before it had a chance to crash onto them.

Sango pulled Kagome closer when the wave threatened to separate them. They ended up in a half hug and then they re-surfaced gasping for air. They turned at the same time to look back as the wave crashed at the shore. The simultaneous turn causing them to get even closer. Now noticing that their wet bodies are pressed up against each other from the way they had menuvered, they both blushed lightly. Their breasts are pushed against each other and their hands are still linked from before the wave went over their heads. They looked into each others eyes and the world stopped for just a moment. Sparkling chocolate clashing with sparkling chocolate. No words were spoken but there seemed to be an understanding in them. They were happy and content in the others presense. Was it just friendship? Was it attraction? A simple crush? Or.. could it be love? Neither have felt this way before so neither fully understood, but standing there, pressed against each other in this moment, nothing else mattered.

Kagome wanted to kiss her. She wanted so badly to feel the softness of Sango's lips pressed against her own. She wanted to taste her and savor her. But she was nervous. What if she is reading the situation wrong? What if there isn't actually anything romantic or sexual between them and this is all just her own crazy fantasy?

Searching Sango's eyes with her own, she made a decision. She wants to kiss her. If not now, then when? Sure they lived in the same dorm room, but they have never had a moment quite like this one. She just hopes that what she plans to do won't make everything weird between them. They do have to live together for the rest of the year.

As soon as she gained the confidence to do what she has been wanting for weeks now, a large - but not as large as before - wave smashed into them. They both quickly closed their eyes and held their breath as they went under. Their bodies were separated, their hands tried to stay connected but were inevitably pulled apart by the current.

Kagome started to panic. She had no time to bring in a fair amount of air so she is turning red while trying not to pass out. The wave is making her body thrash about and her heart race. She had let her senses be distracted in those small moments looking at Sango, and now she can't breathe or swim to the surface. She squeezed her eyes shut as tight as they could go before she lost consciousness.

She can feel something pressed up against her. Wet and warm. She can't breathe. She feels the hot surface of the sand underneath her soaked body. There are voices around her but she can't quite decipher who they are or what they are saying.

Why can't she breathe? What is that feeling against her chest? Why is her nose squeezed shut and her mouth against something warm and wet?

Suddenly the top half of her body heaved forward as she coughed and coughed, gasping for air, spirts of water propelling from her lungs and onto the soft sand next to her.

"Kagome. Kagome! Are you alright?"

Kagome put a shaky hand to her chest to try and calm her racing heart. She looks up and sees worried golden eyes staring down at her.

"Inuyasha?" She takes a hard breath in, trying to remember what had happened. When it comes to her, she gasps. "Where's Sango?"

She looks to her left when she feels a hand lightly grasp her shoulder. "I'm right here, Kagome. I was worried about you. How are you feeling?"

Kagome looks around some more and notices Sango is sitting on her knees to her left, Inuyasha is crouched down on her right, Kikyo is a few feet behind Inuyasha with worried eyes and even Jakotsu is there, standing next to Kikyo.

"I'm a little lightheaded. What the hell happened?"

Sango responded, "when that wave crashed around us, we didn't have much time to prepare and we went under. I barely made it back above the water before I almost passed out. When I came up, I couldn't find you. Inuyasha apparently saw what happened from the beach and he dove in and pulled you out. Then he gave you CPR. You had fainted and apparently had water in your lungs."

Kagome blanched. She immediately wiped her mouth off in disgust. That's what that feeling against her mouth was? "Ugghh. Gross." Sango, Kikyo and Jakotsu all bursted out laughing, while Kagome felt slightly embarrassed and Inuyasha was annoyed.

"Hey bitch. I just saved your life. You could be a bit more grateful."

Kagome stood up and dusted herself off before pulling Inuyasha into a hug.

She blushed. "Sorry.. Thank you Inuyasha. If you weren't here, who knows what would have happened."

"Keh. Clumsy wench always in need of saving."

Kagome pulled away and playfully punched him in the arm. "Baka."

Kikyo walked forward and hugged Kagome also. "We were really worried. You sure you're okay?"

Kagome squeezed her older cousin back, "yeah. Don't worry about me. I think I'm ready to just lay down and soak up the sun though." She pulled back from the embrace and looked down at her sand covered body. "I'm gonna rinse off first." She turned to Sango. "I'll meet you at our spot, okay?"

Sango smiled warmly at her before walking up to her to silently look into her eyes. Everyone watched with slight amusement as the couple shared a moment they didn't even realize was mutual. Sango pulled Kagome in close and embraced her tightly. Kagome happily circled the taller frame in her arms.

"I'm fine, Sango. Really."

"I know. Just.. Don't scare me like that again."

Kagome's heart fluttered and she blushed. "I uh.. I'll try."

They pulled away from each other and went their separate ways for the moment. Kagome going to rinse off and Sango going to lay down in wait for her friend to return.

Kagome went into the water just enough for it to come up to her hips. She sunk down to her knees and wiped her body off with her hands. She rinsed her hair off and ungangled as much as she could with her fingers. When she was finished, she turned back to the shore and nearly had a heart attack when she saw the three people standing there. She put her hand to her chest and gasped.

"What the hell, guys!? You scared me half to death." When Inuyasha, Kikyo and Jakotsu continued to stand there with wide grins on their faces, Kagome got annoyed. "What!?"

"You two seem awfully close, Kagome." Kikyo responded.

Kagome lightly blushed and rolled her eyes. "Are you serious? Apparently I almost died and you three are going to harrass me about something you know nothing about?" She started to walk back to where Sango is currently laying but Jakotsu blocked her path.

"Gurl, we all saw the moment between you two before the wave took you out. You were gonna kiss her!"

Kagome's face immediately rivaled that of a tomato and she frantically looked to make sure Sango didn't hear that. She sighed in relief to see in the short distance that Sango wasn't paying them any attention.

"Sshhhh. Will you keep it down? What the hell are you talking about!?" She whisper-yelled in response.

Inuyasha put an arm around Kagome and chuckled. "Come on, 'Gome. We all saw it. And if we saw it, that means sango did too. And she did not seem upset by it at all."

Kagome felt as though if she got any redder, it would be permanent. Maybe she could pretend it's a sunburn.

"What is this? Some kind of intervention? 'Kagome you're gay so now let's get you a girlfriend'?"

They all laughed at her expense, making her even more irritated. She shoved Inuyasha's arm off her shoulder and started walking away again.

"Wait Kagome. I'm sorry."

Kagome turned back, surprised. "You. Are apologizing?"

"Feh, I can do that sometimes."

Kagome rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. "What are you guys really up to?"

Kikyo stood in front of her little cousin with sincerity in her gaze. "We care about you, Kagome. It's obvious to all of us that you really like Sango." Kagome blushed and looked away. Kikyo took Kagome's chin to make her look back at her. "There is nothing to be embarrassed about. The part you need to understand is that it is also obvious to us that Sango likes you too."

Kagome sighed. "How can you even be sure that Sango.. uh.. swings that way?"

"I was right about you, wasn't I honey?" Jakotsu spoke up. "I have fabulous gay-dar. If you would just make a move, you'll have your happy ending! Or are you gonna rely on your dreams to get you off for the rest of your life?"

Kagome immediately put her face in her hands and groaned.

"Oops. I wasn't supposed to say that out loud. Sorry Kags."

Inuyasha and Kikyo were trying really hard not to chuckle at her expense. Not hard enough because Kagome narrowed her eyes at them. She stared hard at Inuyasha before pushing him backwards into the water onto his butt. "Just shutup and SIT!"

Kikyo and Jakotsu cracked up even harder into full on guffaws while Inuyasha pouted on his butt in the shallow water.

"I ain't a dog." He crossed his arms across his chest and his ears drooped slightly.

"Than quit acting like one, dog-boy. Now, if you will excuse me.. I'm going to lay down and relax after my near death experience and apparently my love life intervention." She turned back around and headed towards Sango.

"Don't forget what we said!" Jakotsu yelled after her. Kagome put a thumbs up above her head but didn't turn back around.

When she made it back to their spot, she layed down on the towel next to Sango and took a deep breath in and out.

"What took you so long?" Sango asked.

"Our so called friends were lecturing me."

Sango turned her head and made eye contact with Kagome who was only a foot away. "What were they lecturing you about?"

Kagome waved her hands in front of her to wave off the question as unimportant. "Nothing important. I just wanna relax before we have to go back."

Sango nodded her head in understanding, closed her eyes again and allowed the warm sun to beat down on her body. Kagome looked back over at the ethereal woman beside her. She really is the most beautiful person she has ever met. She is the only person she has ever wanted something more than friendship with. The only person she has ever had those dreams about. Her heart leapt in her throat when she really thought about it.

'Is this what it feels like to be falling in love?'
