InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Falling For the Baby Sitter ❯ Meeting Mom ( Chapter 11 )
Kagome picked Shippou up out of his highchair and smiled brushing his hair away from his face, "You ready to go see Grandma, squirt?" She smiled and tweaked his nose scooping up his sippy cup.
Inu Yasha sat there on the couch and yawned, "Why wouldn't he want to see her? She spoils them rotten."
She looked over her shoulder at him and made a face, Shippou mimicking her actions causing the girl to giggle and poke his tummy.
The older boy just grunted and stood up stretching, "I let you know, this isn't gonna be a picnic," he looked at Kagome skeptically.
Kagome smiled sweetly at him, "Really? And here I already had the red and white blanket packed in with the wicker basket."
Inu Yasha rolled his eyes, "Smart ass." He walked into the kitchen and grabbed a coke from the fridge, "Just you wait and see..."
She arched a brow slightly, "What is she gonna do? Give me a background check and find all my police records?"
He put his drink down on the counter and raised a brow, "She might...do ya have something you want to come clean with?" Inu Yasha stood there, smirking.
Kagome put a finger to her lips and scowled slightly, "Should I start naming things now? We might be a third of the way through it all by the time we get to your moms."
He smiled, "I knew it, you are a trouble maker," he laughed as he walked to the kids room and opening the door, "Hey, runt, lets go and see grandma," Inu Yasha said to Souta. Before they knew it, Souta was up, bear in hand, and waiting at the front door.
"Let's go!!!" Souta said while jumping up and down.
Kagome laughed and shook her head walking over and opening the door, winking over her should at Inu Yasha, Shippou giggling profusely in her arms, "You have no idea, Bishonen." She walked out of the house and skipped over to the car bouncing Shippou around, causing him to squeal and laugh.
Inu Yasha just shook his head and followed them out, "Bishonen ... Pshhhh." He walked over towards his car and opened the door for Souta, "Get in and buckle up, runt." Souta jumped in and did as he was told and then stuck his tongue out at Inu Yasha, who did the same back at Souta as he closed the door and opened the driver's side door to get in.
Kagome buckled Shippou into his car seat and tweaked his nose, handing him his bear which he grabbed and squealed loudly, leaning up to yank on Inu Yasha's hair, while Kagome shut the door and walked around the car, swinging into the passenger seat.
The driver just sat there and growled when he felt someone pulling on his braid, "Shippou, don't pull on my hair," He reached back and untangled the kid's hands from his hair, then started up the car and backing out of the drive way.
Kagome winked at Shippou and waited until Inu Yasha was distracted with his driving and reached over and tugged on his hair, then snapped her hand back and continued to look out the window, an innocent look settled on her soft features.
He growled as he drove down the road, "Alright, you guys, next one to pull my hair, walks to grandmas." He glared at Kagome from the corners of his eyes, "You too, Miss Innocent."
The aforementioned girl turned in her seat and blinked, wide-eyed, "Whoooo me??" She asked, batting her eyelashes and placed a hand on her chest, gasping and turning back around to face the door, "Well, I never."
"You never my ass," Inu Yasha reached over and turned on the radio, "You're not as innocent as you make yourself out to be, Kags."
Kagome arched a brow and looked over at him, "And just what is that supposed to mean, might I ask?"
Inu Yasha just snorted and kept driving.
After a few moments of silence, Souta smiled and started singing, "Kagome and Inu sitting in a tree, K- I...umm how does the rest go again?"
Kagome's eyes shot open and she choked, looking back at Souta, slack jawed. Shippou pointed at her face and laughed cuddling his teddy close to him with one arm.
Inu Yasha turned bright and pulled into his mothers drive way. He rubbed the back of his neck "We're here."
Shippou squealed rather loudly and started laughing as Kagome clambered out of the car, her crimson face gleaming as she fumbled with the car seat buckle. She self-consciously straightened her jeans looking up at the house. It was impressive, and considering the fact that she was already nervous about meeting Inu Yasha's mom, the fact that she was standing in front of her house wearing a black shirt that laced up the back and black jeans, made her feel like she was considerably underdressed for the occasion.
Inu Yasha climbed out of the car and opened the door for Souta. He watched as the boy ran for the front door of the house, "Grandma!!!" the boy called out. Inu Yasha smiled as he pulled on his sunglasses and straightened his red button up shirt, walking towards the house.
Kagome bit her bottom lip as she watched Inu Yasha stride confidently up to the house. She took a deep breath trying to calm her nerves and was about to take a shaky step forward when a little tug on her hair made her look down at the boy situated on her hip. He poked her nose and hugged her neck. A soft smile crossed her lips and she squeezed Shippou, grateful for the little boy's support. "Well, here goes nothing, half-pint," she smiled down at him and followed after Inu Yasha.
Inu Yasha stopped at the door and pulled off his sandals leaving them outside on the front porch. He opened the door and walked in to see Souta sitting down eating cookies with his bear in his lap. Inu Yasha looked around for his mother, "Hey, okaa-san, where are you?"
A woman came from around the corner with another tray of cookies and set them on the table, "I'm over here, oh baka son of mine." She laughed and smiled upon seeing Shippou. The little boy giggled and clapped before turning and hiding his face in Kagome's hair. The older woman looked at Inu Yasha with raised brows, "Looks like the little demons quite taken with her."
Inu shrugged, "Looks like it." He walked over to the table and got a few cookies. "Okaasan this is Kagome."
Kagome smiled slightly and extended a hand to the woman who took it and shook it firmly, "Nice to meet you finally." The older woman laughed slightly, "I take it Inu Yasha has been telling you horror stories about what a terror I am." Kagome sweat dropped and laughed a bit, "Only when we have a bonfire to tell the scariest stories at." Shippou smiled and cuddled his bear close.
Inu looked at them with a mouthful of cookies, "Huh..."He mumbled
His mom rolled her eyes and smacked him over the back of the head, "Chew with your mouth closed." She turned back to Kagome, "Well, that's ok, now I can tell you all of the little stories from his child hood." She cackled wickedly and led a laughing Kagome to a seat at the table.
Inu swallowed and rubbed the back of his head "Ite! What the hell was that for?" He blinked, "Iie...don't tell stories about me."
Kagome giggled and set Shippou in his own chair as his mother took a seat, "No, no, please do tell, I need something new to tease him about." His mom smiled and leaned forward clasping her hands together, "Well, there was this one time that he was out in the fields and he stumbled on this hornets nest..."
Inu Yasha hung his head and just sat down next to Souta who was watching cartoons on TV. "Maybe if I concentrate hard enough, the floor will open up and swallow me," Inu Yasha mumbled.
His mother looked over at him, "Well, I guess I could always tell her about the time Sesshoumaru caught you in the bathroom with his favorite SMUT magazine."
Kagome's eyes snapped open and she choked on a cookie her face flaming bright red.
His face went scarlet, "For Kami-sama's sake okaasan...." Inu Yasha covered his face with a pillow from the couch.
His mother laughed wickedly, "You might want to use that pillow to cover another part of your anatomy. Those pants to nothing to hide your appreciation of the memory."
Kagome's face was crimson but she couldn't help giggling at the way his mom was torturing him.
"Okaasan …" Inu Yasha felt his whole body go red and get hot. "Not in front of the brats."
She arched a brow and folded her arms over her chest, "Oh so you would like to go into another room to discuss this? Good, I agree." His mother jumped up and grabbed Inu Yasha by the ear and drug him into the next room and motioned for Kagome to follow, leaving Shippou laughing at the table and Souta watching cartoons.
"Owwww, Owwww," Inu Yasha yelped as he followed his mother in pain, "Let go of my ear Okaasan...geez."
His mother leaned against the wall and smiled, "Now what about the time that Nazuna found you and that girl up in the Hayloft?"
Inu Yasha blushed, "Okaasan....do we have to go into that...?"
Kagome smiled and listened to the beginning of what sounded to be a promising round of embarrass-the-hell out-of-Inu-Yasha.
His mother was laughing, "And how about when I called Kouga's house earlier today, looking for you, and when his sister went to go find him, she caught you two in the most interesting of positions?"
Kagome blushed scarlet as she felt a twinge inside of her. She frowned slightly and shook her head, she wasn't jealous. She just was irritated that that was what he had been doing instead of getting home one time so she wasn't late to class. She nodded inwardly in an attempt to convince herself. She most definitely was not jealous.
Inu Yasha looked at Kagome and then lowered his eyes to the ground, "Ok, that's enough ....it's not embarrass Inu day."
Kagome blushed when she felt Inu Yasha's eyes on her then nodded slightly, "Yea, I think if he gets any redder he'll explode."
His mom sighed mock-dramatically, "It's so sad... all the stories I could tell about you... and you wont even let me finish one."
He raised and eye brow and opened his mouth getting ready to be a smart ass but then shut it and just sat there.
His mom sat back a serious look on her face suddenly, "So, why don't you tell me why you chose Kagome out of all the girls who applied for the job?" She asked and leaned back.
Kagome blinked and paled, 'And the interrogation starts...' she thought miserably.
He looked at his mom, "Because she wasn't a kiss ass like the rest were." Inu Yasha folded his arms across his chest and sat back in his chair.
His mom and Kagome both looked at him with an arched brow. "Meaning what, exactly?" His mom asked.
"I don't like people who are nice to you, just because you come from a family with money." Inu Yasha stated as he looked at his mother.
His mom nodded and Kagome blinked a few times. His mother took another sweeping glance at Kagome but still spoke to Inu Yasha, "She's very pretty, too."
"Yeah, so what's that got to do with anything Okaasan…?" Inu Yasha asked in a warning tone.
His mother gave a sharp glance in his direction, "Don't you get snappy with me. I was just making an observation. She looks a lot like Kikyou did is all."
Kagome blinked a bit confused at the turn of the conversation.
Inu Yasha's face flashed with pain, "Let's not talk about her, ok. You wanted to get to know Kagome, well, here she is, get know her."
She nodded at her son's request and turned to Kagome, smiling softly, who was watching Inu Yasha quietly, having caught the flash of emotion that had crossed over his face. "So, Kagome, I was looking through some of your school records before, you went to St. Katherine's?"
Kagome looked up at her suddenly. So she had looked into her old records. She eyed the woman warily, trying to see if she was going somewhere with this, "Yes, for most of my middle and high school career."
His mother nodded, "But it said about 6 months before you would have graduated, you dropped out to take care of home issues. You are taking classes for your writing and art but you still don't have your GED, am I right?"
Kagome's gaze darkened slightly as she folded her arms across her stomach, "Yes, that's right."
Inu Yasha sat back and watched the women talk with a smirk on his face.
His mom motioned to the couch for her to sit down, and Kagome did so, "You are currently working on getting it however and are working on raising the money for that as well as another family issue."
Kagome's eyes flashed as she realized that this woman had looked deep into her family history, "Yes. I am."
His mother took in her reaction and nodded slightly, "Your mother takes care of most of it. Yet, you insist on paying for it yourself. You aren't from a family who is aching in the money department either, yet you rent your self out as a live in babysitter. This intrigues me."
Kagome took a deep breath trying to steady herself, "With all do respect ma'am, my life is personal, as are my reasons. My "family issue" is the reason I am also working on getting my GED."
His mom nodded, understanding the girl's desire for her privacy, and her gaze flickered over to her son, realizing she had told none of this to him. It made sense since it she had had a hell of a time trying to dig up her past. The whole family had gone to great lengths to make sure that their privacy was respected. But a grandmother was still entitled to know about the woman who was watching over her grandchildren.
Inu Yasha sat back and taking all this in watching the two women talking, "So...you never finished school?" he sat there looking at Kagome.
Kagome refused to look at him, "No, I didn't."
"Well, you're gonna finish I hope you know," He said with determination "And I am sorry for making you late for class the other night, it wont happen again."
Kagome looked over at him, "Don't worry about it. It's not like I've never done it to someone."
His mom's eyes widened, waking it the wrong way and arched a brow.
He looked at his mom, "What's with the look?"
His mom shook her head and started laughing, "Well, I just hope that you guys never tell me about your domino games."
Kagome flat lined a sweat drop appearing on the side of her head.
He growled, "I came home late because I was with Kouga, and that made her late for class."
His mom smirked, "Inu Yasha it's completely over your head."
Kagome blushed as she finally realized what she said, and choked, "Uh..."
He glared and then snorted ignoring his okaasan.
His mom smiled sweetly, "Just, do me a favor. The night you decide to get drunk and sneak into her room to 'move furniture', make sure that the boys are asleep."
Kagome's eyes widened and she squeaked her crimson face glowing.
Inu Yasha snarled and jumped out of his chair stomping into the living room, "Bite me, okaasan."
