InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Falling For the Baby Sitter ❯ Surprise Introductions ( Chapter 20 )
Kagome wandered back over to the table where she and Miroku had been sitting a little later on in the night and she perched on the seat right next to him and smiled up at him seductively "Soooo, Miroku..." she murmured to him, "Where did you get off to?"
Miroku looked at her and ran a finger over his glass. "I had a chat with Inu Yasha...that's all."
She smiled and wrapped her arms around his, scooting closer to him and laid her head on his shoulder, "Now, explain to me again; why don't you have a girlfriend?"
"Because I'm such a pervert," Miroku said as he played with a napkin. "Kagome I think your a bit tipsy."
Kagome laughed and wrinkled her nose, "Oh, I'm fine!" She sat up and leaned forward onto the table, "You know...you are really kinda cute once you get over your wandering hands."
Miroku blushed slightly. "Thank you, Kagome ..." He looked around as the lights lowered and the strobe lights came on. "Looks like its time to for people to hit the dance floor."
Music began to play. "Well, at least they are playing good music tonight, " he said with a smile as he listened to the DJ play Evanescence.
She smiled at him and leaned close. "Hey, Miroku..." she said softly, running her fingers down his arm, "I think it's time you got up off your butt and danced with me." Laughing, Kagome stood up and tugged Miroku to his feet and drug him out onto the dance floor.
Miroku reluctantly followed. "Kagome, I can't dance to be honest with you...you're feet are going to get stepped on."
She smiled and shook her head. "You men are all the same. Just shut your lip and move your body. There's a reason the lighting in a dance is so dark. So no one can see you dance. The reason you dance is to feel it, not to have other people watch you." She smiled and tugged him into a place fairly off to the side and in a darker corner. Going Under came on and she slid her hands over his chest up to his shoulders. "Just relax..." she whispered into his ear. She moved her hips slightly from side to side, and swung her torso in time with the tempo. She lifted her arms up and linked them around his neck and moved with music, using lithe, legato movements.
Miroku placed his hands on her hips and moved in rhythm with hers. "Well, this isn't so bad, "he said with a smile. 'Yeah, until Inu Yasha catches me, then I'm toast,' he thought to himself.
She smiled and looked up at him, "Told you so." Her body kept time with the music as it dipped off to a smoother part, and she leaned back, trailing her fingers down his arms, but kept her hips against his, then swung back up, trailing her hands up her own body, her fingers flipping the head of her zippers. Her smile grew and her eyes drifted closed as she threaded her hands through her tousled hair.
Miroku grinned as his hands moved from her waist to her hips, and then around to her ass. 'Oh I can't help myself,' he thought. He pushed his hips up against hers and kept up the rhythm to the music. "Oh, if I die now, I will be a happy man," he said with a perverted grin.
Kagome laughed and turned around in his arms, guiding his hands to her hips, and she looked over her shoulder so she could see him. A smile played tug-o-war with her lips as she draped her arms around his neck, reaching behind her to do so, and forcing her body closer to his.
Miroku closed his eyes and leaned his head onto her shoulder as he felt her grind up against him. "Oh man, I should dance with you more often, Kagome." His hand begins to slide down her hip and towards her thigh.
She blushed slightly and smiled as she looked at him her face inches from his, the smell of alcohol on her breath, and fairly strong too, as if she had been drinking straight ever clear. She rubbed her nose against his and smiled, moving her body down slowly, one hand dropping down and moving down her legs before she moved back up her eyes catching his, the strobe lights making them seem even more silver than normal.
Miroku smelled the alcohol on her breath and pulled back as the song ended. "Come on, Kagome. I think we need to go and get Inu and Kouga and get some food," he said with a wink as he grabbed her by the hand leading her off the dance floor.
She laughed and nodded, "If you say so, Miroku-kun." She followed after him and walked straight up behind him and kneed him in the butt. "You walk so slowly!!"
He blinked. "Hey, lay off my ass, would you?" Miroku said with a laugh as they approached Kouga and Inu Yasha. Miroku stopped as he saw Inu Yasha's mouth on Kouga's wrist. "Oh ...please, that's enough, let's go and get some real food," Miroku stated. Inu Yasha broke off the bite and Kouga snapped his head around to look at Miroku. Inu Yasha stood up and licked his lips removing all traces of blood.
Kagome stopped behind Miroku, as if he could shield her from what they where doing and it wouldn't reawaken the jealousy inside of her. She draped an arm around Miroku's neck and reached over, turning Inu Yasha's wrist over so she could see his watch with her free hand.
Inu Yasha looked at Kagome. "Kags, you smell like alcohol, and I mean strong alcohol."
She gave a dopey half smile and a short laugh, "I'm fine! I can walk fine can't I? I'm functioning full well. Hell, I was even giving Miroku a dance lesson. See!" She leaned over to him. "F-I-N-E. Fine."
Kouga stood up and walked towards the door his long black hair flowing behind him, "I say its time to get dinner. Inu Yasha, come, let's go." Kouga's voice left no room for argument and Inu Yasha stalked off in behind him.
Miroku held out his arm to Kagome. "My Lady, care to escort me to the car?" he asked as he gave her a wink.
She giggled and linked her arm through his and nodded regally. "Why, certainly, My Lord."
Miroku smiled as he strutted out the door with Kagome on his arm. Inu Yasha saw him and flashed him a dirty look at which Miroku raised his eyes brows and shrugged a bit. Miroku opened the car door for Kagome. "Ladies first."
Inu gagged and got into the front passenger seat. Kouga put in a CD as he watched Miroku run around to the other side of the car and get in.
Kagome's eyes flew open. "Oh my God! Miroku!" She threw her hands up into the air and her eyes went really wide.
Miroku looked at her in shock, "What?!"
She looked at him as if she was trying to keep from laughing, and then all of a sudden burst into hysterical peals of laughter.
Miroku sweat dropped, "What's...so funny?" he asked.
Kouga and Inu Yasha looked at each other with raised eyebrows and then looked back at them, trying to figure out what the hell is going on.
She leaned over as if she was going to tell him a secret but burst into laughter again and doubled over in her seat, clutching her stomach. She turned to him again still laughing really hard but pointed to her neck and her bite mark when she was sure Kouga wasn't looking, and then up to Kouga himself. For some reason she kept bursting into new fits of laughter when she did it twice more the brought her finger up to her lips, trying to say, 'Shhh,' but she was laughing to hard and just succeeded in looking like the biggest idiot on the face of the planet.
Miroku blinked and then looked to Inu Yasha. Inu Yasha began to sweat and become nervous as he watched Kagome. Kouga looked at Inu Yasha as he drove. "Inu, are you ok? You look kind of pale."
Inu Yasha nodded and swallowed hard. "I'm fine, Kouga, but I don't feel well, I think it's my meds. Let's go home so I can go to bed," he said with a smile.
Kouga nodded and headed for home, "As you wish, Inu Yasha."
Kagome took three really deep breaths and made an attempt to sit still and silent looking at the three men in the car.
The car was silent until Kouga pushed play on the CD player. Metallica's 'Constant Memory' came on. The car ride was pretty much silent on the way home; everyone was tired and Inu Yasha was becoming so nervous that his stomach was beginning to disagree with him.
Kagome stared at Inu Yasha's face in the review mirror for a while then dropped her gaze to the road in front of them. They were going to drive right by her mother's house going this way. She looked out the window to peer up the drive way when they drove by. As Kouga zoomed past it, a black Benz caught her eye. For a moment she just stayed turned in the same direction, her eyes glazed over as if she had taken a blow to the head, and then turned around staring at the back of Inu Yasha's seat, her face paler than the milk of a coconut.
Miroku looked at Kagome. "Hey, Kagome, are you ok? Are you going to get sick?"
Inu Yasha turned around in his seat to get a look at her, "Kags ...speak girl...are you ok?"
She didn't move or even give any sign that she had heard the boys talking, her mind whirling a million miles an hour and her sanity trying to play catch up.
Miroku patted her on the shoulder, "Hey, blink or something."
Inu Yasha signaled Kouga to pull over at a gas station and get Kagome a bottle of water. As they pulled up and parked, Kouga got out and ran into the store to get the water.
'Why is he here? What's his car doing in that drive way? What did Mom tell him? Is she going to say anything about Mayu? What about Mayu, is she ok?' her thoughts tripped over one another as they all tried to register at the same time, her skin turning cold and clammy, a freezing sweat breaking out on her forehead, her silver eyes wide but her pupils so small they were barely there.
Kouga came back out with the water and opened Kagome's door. "Kagome ..."He knelt down and pressed the cold bottle to her neck. "Kagome, snap out of it," Kouga demanded.
Kagome felt the chilly plastic on her skin and gasped her hand shooting to her neck and her eyes snapped up to Inu Yasha, the first thing she really saw and registered since her mind went haywire. Her chest heaved with her deep breaths and she forced herself to tear her eyes from his gaze and they landed first on Miroku, then on Kouga. "G-g-gomen," she stammered.
Inu Yasha looked at her. "Kagome, what's the matter? You scared the hell out of us." Kouga put the bottle of water in her hand and looked at her face. Miroku handed her a Kleenex to wipe the sweat off of her brow. "Yeah, you like totally freaked out back there," Miroku stated.
She froze up for a minute not knowing what to say, afraid they would find out. Why was this shit following her here? She had vowed to make a new life for herself here and she had been doing so well in succeeding! Why couldn't her past stay just that?! She took a few deep, even breaths and put on her best impression of herself when drunk. Her dopey smile was a little too tight but Inu Yasha could only be the one to see it since he was looking at her straight in the face. "Eh, I do weird shit when I'm drunk. Like I said earlier, I just must have pushed myself to hard today." She gave a boozed up kind of giggle and sat back in her seat, her thoughts reclaiming her mind, but her eyes being the only part of her body that gave tribute to her worry.
Kouga got up and closed her car door and went around, getting into the drivers seat. Inu Yasha gave her one of those we-are-so-gonna-talk-when-we-get-home looks before he turned around. They were off and headed for home again. Miroku kept a close eye on Kagome making she wasn't going to faint or something.
Her eyes dropped down to her lap as they finished the rid home in near silence.
Kouga pulled into Inu Yasha's driveway and parked the car. Everyone got out.
"Well, it's been a slice of heaven, guys, but I have to get home," Miroku said with a smile. "You take care Kagome ...we will have to go out again sometime." He gave her a wink as he walked to his bike and got on. Miroku put on his helmet and waved before he took off towards his house.
Kagome gave a smile the best she could by forcing with making it look plastic and waved good bye. She gave a wary glance in Kouga's and Inu Yasha's direction and rushed up the porch steps and unlocking the door to the house before either one could say anything. Her hair being tossed from the air created by her running was the last thing the saw of her before she shut the door and she headed to her bedroom.
Kouga and Inu Yasha went inside. "Well, what's with her?" Kouga asked.
Inu Yasha shrugged. "Don't know ...I stopped trying to figure women out a long time ago," Inu Yasha said as he pulled off his coat, throwing it on a chair. "I take it your staying the night tonight?" he asked, looking at Kouga.
Kouga nodded "Yes, I always stay with you after a blood letting, you know that," Inu Yasha smirked, "Yeah, I know."
Kagome came back out of her room moments later wearing a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, her hair thrown up in a messy ponytail and her keys in hand, heading in a beeline for the door.
"Whoa, hold up!" Inu Yasha called out, "Where are you going?!" He rushed after as best he could.
She looked over her shoulder, a rushed expression on her face. She spotted Inu Yasha and hesitated a moment, "Out for a drive. I might be back later tonight, if not; I'll be here in the morning." She turned to rush off again.
He reached out and caught her by the arm. "Oh, no, you don't, you're gonna tell me what the hell is going on!" Inu Yasha glared at her, demanding an answer.
Kagome's eyes darkened slightly when he grabbed her arm, a hard expression crossing her face, like she had just gotten a very large, unpleasant dose of de JA vu. She yanked her arm out of his grasp out of instinct and threw her arm up as if to ward of a blow. She looked up and straightened up from the flinch, brushing off like it never happened and looked at him, "I'm just restless and I felt like driving over to my mom's and Kagura's to have a pleasant chat and a cup of tea."
Kouga noticed her flinch as he approached Inu Yasha and touched his shoulder.
"Let go of her arm, Inu Yasha."
Inu Yasha blinked and reluctantly let go and turned around walking down the hall to his room. "Go ahead and do what you have to, Kagome. I will take care of Inu," Kouga said.
Kagome's brow furrowed and she frowned slightly, looking at Kouga. She didn't say anything though, she just turned around but not before her eyes switched back to the wide silver they had been in the car after they had past her mother's house. She bolted out the door, trying to get off of the property without being hounded by Inu Yasha and having to drag him into the mess.
Kouga watched the girl run to her car. He blinked wondering what had gotten into her. "I'm sure she will be fine," he told himself as he turned and walked down the hall to Inu Yasha's room.
Kagome swung into her car and peeled out, spitting rocks and dirt up behind her in a great brown fountain before speeding off into the night with only one goal in mind: To find out what the HELL Hojo was doing over at her mother's house.
Kouga walked into Inu Yasha's room to see him sitting shirtless on the bed his head hanging low. He had his hands knotted in his hair. "Inu Yasha ..." Kouga mumbled as the full extent of his lover's injuries hit him in the face. 'How the hell is he able to move?' Kouga wondered. Inu Yasha's whole left side was bruised and cut up. Giant black and purple bruises. Kouga flinched 'that had to be painful for him' he thought.
Kouga sat next to Inu Yasha and ran his fingers over his old scars. "Inu Yasha, look at me," Kouga told him.
Inu Yasha's eyes looked over at him. "Something bad is going to happen, Kouga...something really bad, you know how I am about my intuition."
Kouga nodded. "Yes, I know, Inu, but she needs to be alone now, if she needs us she will call." Inu Yasha sighed and lay back on the bed with his hands behind his head his hair fanned out all around him.
Kouga lay down next to Inu Yasha and wrapped his arms gently around him. "Inu, stop worrying," Kouga said as he watched his face.
Inu Yasha closed his eyes. "Kouga, go to sleep..."he said, his patience wearing thin.
"Only if you come with me," Kouga replied.
Inu nodded. "Alright, Kouga."
Kouga smiled and let him free of his hold as he got up to get undressed. Inu Yasha pulled off his jeans and then crawled under the blankets soon to be joined by Kouga. Inu Yasha flipped off the lamp as he felt Kouga snuggle up to him.
"Get some rest, Inu," Kouga said as he yawned.
Inu Yasha laid there looking at the ceiling. 'Easier said than done,' Inu Yasha thought.
Kagome pulled into her mother's driveway a while later, seeing his car still parked in the same spot. She slammed her car door and stormed up the steps of what she was supposed to think of as her home. She threw open the front door just as Kagura came down the stairs. Kagome flung her arm out and brushed past her before she could get out her first insult and barged into the kitchen, where she heard Mayu crying.
She dashed into the room and saw Hojo sitting down at the table with Mayu in front of him and trying to coax her into calming down, and Kagome's mother standing against the counter with a bag packed and spilling over with Mayu's things. The young woman's furious eyes shot up to her mothers. "What the FUCK is going on?" she demanded venomously. Her mother threw her hands up in a dramatic fashion, like she was under tremendous amounts of stress. "I can't keep her here, Kagome, and Hojo has been begging for me to let me let him see her. Since you are never around and won't be now that you are working and trying to get your GED too, I decided it was best if I just let him take her until you were back on your feet and standing strong." Kagome's eyes flashed dangerously. "Like hell you will!"
Hojo sighed exasperatedly, "Oh, come on, Kagome; think about what's best for Mayu here!" Kagome narrowed her eyes at him and strode over to the counter purposefully. "Oh, believe me. I am." She snatched up the duffle bag and swung it over her shoulder. "There's not an icicle's chance in HELL that I will let Mayu go ANYWHERE with you!" She scooped the little girl up off of the table, who immediately stopped crying, and started fiddling with the silver locket around Kagome's neck that matched her own. The little girl pulled her locket out and made the two hearts touch and she smiled playing with the necklaces. Kagome started to storm out of the kitchen when Hojo slammed his fists down on the table and stood up. "Dammit, Kagome, I will fight you to let me see her!"
Kagome whirled around and glared at him, "Good, take it to court. Just let me remind you of one thing; this whole keep it a secret facade? That's your M.O. I could give a shit less. You bring me in to court and we'll see how untarnished your family name stays."
Hojo's eyes narrowed at her and a warning look flashed across her face, "Kagome..."
The girl whirled around and stormed out of the house to her car. She yanked a car seat out of her trunk and fit it into the front seat, strapping Mayu in and took off.
Inu Yasha glanced over at Kouga who was fast asleep. He silently threw back the covers and got out of bed. He grabbed a pair of sweats and pulled them on and walked down the hall and went to Kagome's room finding it empty.
"Still not home," he mumbled. He walked into the kitchen and sat down to smoke a cigarette.
"Where the hell is she?" Inu Yasha grumbled to himself as he lit his cigarette.
Kagome pulled up into the drive way of what she had begun to call home and let her eyes fall upon the dog pen. What was she doing, bringing Mayu here?
Her eyes fell on the little girl who had started to play with the car seat straps. Kagome sighed and leaned her head back against the seat, slamming it backwards. She took a deep breath and ran her hand through her hair, plopping her head against her steering wheel. Something tugged on her hair, and she looked over to see Mayu smiling up at her, looking a lot like Shippou. Kagome smiled sadly and reached over, pushing the soft curls back from her face.
Inu Yasha heard a car pull into the drive and got up and went to the door flipping on the outside light. He looked out and saw a Kagome's car. "She's home...." he opened the door and walked out towards her car.
Kagome's eyes flew open and her head shot up as she saw light spill into the front seat of her car. Her gaze fell on Inu Yasha who was walking toward her car. "Shit," she swore and attempted to start her car, but the engine refused to start.
Inu Yasha ran over to her car as fast as he could and jerked the passenger door open, "Kagome, what the hell..." he yelled and then he saw the little girl, "is going on?'' he mumbled.
Mayu laughed and giggled tugging gently on Inu Yasha's hair and giving him a look that would melt even Sesshoumaru's heart, "'Lo!" the little girl babbled cheerfully. Kagome froze, not moving a muscle and waited for Inu Yasha's reaction.
He looked down to the little girl and picked her up, "What is a young one like you doing up at this time of night?" Inu Yasha looked over to Kagome. "What's going on, Kags?"
Kagome ran a hand over her face and took a deep breath then sat back in the seat and let it out in a whoosh. "Inu Yasha, I'd like you to meet Mayu."
