InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Falling For the Baby Sitter ❯ Too Much to Drink ( Chapter 28 )

Inu Yasha watched the girl walk away, confused on what just happened. He stood there, frozen to the spot where he was. The words replayed in his mind.
'Likes me...she likes me...how?' Inu Yasha thought to himself as he stood there, looking dumbfounded.
Inu Yasha eyed her for a moment before he turned and walked back to where Kouga and Soryo were and took a seat at Kouga's side on the floor. He leaned his head on Kouga's leg and closed his eyes.
Kouga looked down to Inu Yasha. "What's wrong, Inu Yasha?" he asked as he rubbed the younger mans ear.
"Nothing Kouga..." he mumbled as he fought back a yawn.
Kagome eyed the bar as she came upon it. She swung herself up onto a stool, reached up, and took the comb out of her hair. As soon as she did this, a cascade of ebony, bouncing curls tumbled down her back in a midnight water fall, the glitter Nazuna had spritzed on it looking like faint constellations.
The bar tender eyed her for a few moments, and then smiled. "What'll it be, hon?" he asked, as he leaned over the top of the bar to look at her.
"A new life, a brain, and a gun," she muttered.
The bartender laughed. "Sorry, none of that here."
"Damn... then I'll just go with a good helping of ever clear and Coke." She glanced over her shoulder in Inu Yasha's direction. "....hold the Coke."
A girl in a dark green tube dress and black high heels strode past Miroku, then stopped, turning to look at him again.
"Wait... Miroku?" The girl walked over to him and laughed. "Hey, how are you?"
Miroku looked up from his drink to look at the girl. "Do I know you?"
She smiled and looked down for a moment. "Oh, sorry, you probably don't remember me. I'm Kagome's friend, Sango. The nurse?"
He smiled. "Oh, yes, the nurse that likes to bite."
Sango laughed, and rubbed the back of her exposed, tan neck. "Yea, it's one of my hobbies, what can I say?"
"Well, I shouldn't be too surprised that I ran into you here then," he joked as he turned back to his drink.
She smiled and shook her head. "Ryo is an old friend of mine. We go way back. What I can't figure out why a pervert like you is wasting your time here instead of being at the strip club down the street."
Miroku smirked. "My friend owns this club and all the food, drinks, and entertainment is free for me."
Arching a brow, she smirked. "Oh, really? And just where could a simple girl like me get entertainment while her childhood friend drools in the lap of a vampire master?"
He shrugged. "They usually have a band that plays here, but they aren't playing tonight." Miroku finished off the rest of his Bacardi and set the glass down on the table.
Tilting her head to the side, she smiled. "Well, Miroku, I must say, you are the mellowest pervert I have met in my life. What happened? Viagra still hasn't kicked in yet?"
Miroku smirked and leaned back in his chair. "Just don't feel like being perverted tonight, is all."
She flashed him a wry smirk. "So my ass is free from unwanted groping?"
He nodded. "Yes, my dear. Tonight it is."
A smile danced her eyes and she sat down next to him, and ordered a Bloody Mary. She then turned to look at him, still with the same amused expression. "Good, you're hired. You are my official ass protector."
Miroku looked up at her. "How did I get this job?" he asked her with a sly smirk sliding into place on his face.
She grinned like the Cheshire cat. "Four Captain Morgan's, and a cute face."
Kagome's rosy face glowed in the dark room as she hiccupped again, then burst into a fit of giggles. She covered her mouth with the back of her hand and closed her eyes, trying to calm down.
The bartender looked over at her skeptically. "You aren't driving tonight are you?"
"No, no, no, no, no!!!" she laughed hysterically for some odd reason then stood up on her shaky legs. She scooped her heels off of the table and twirled them once and plucked her bag off of the bar too. "I'm sorry, but if you'll excuse me, I need to go powder my nose." She said this in a snooty, English accent with a goofy smile on her face.
The man arched a brow and handed another woman her drink. "I'd say, after as many shots as you have had, you are gonna be pissing for a week."
She giggled and pranced over to the bathroom swinging her shoes and her bag.
Miroku looked over at the giggling Kagome who was walking by. "Oh God, she is three sheets to the wind."
Sango groaned and slapped a hand over her face. "I pity the man who she proclaims her Lancelot tonight."
Miroku blinked. "Why do you say that?"
She gave Miroku a flat look. "I used to get drunk with that girl at parties all the time. She's a hilarious drunk, but every time she starts doing the giggle-prance thing, means she's drunk enough to do her, `Lancelot, ravage my body!' act."
"Oh shit, someone needs to warn Inu Yasha and Kouga, then." He stood up and yawned. "Guess that would be me," he said with a goofy smile as he walked towards the Master's table.
Sango got up, and decided to tag along. This night might pick up yet.
Kagome stood in the bathroom and she dabbed cold water onto her face. A soft giggle came from her lips and she rubbed her nose.
Looking down at her dress she blinked and slipped it off. She laid it across the sink and tore off the first three skirts. Getting to the bottom layer, she ripped it till it looked naturally torn, as if she had been running through the woods. She eyed the bodice, and then tore it off of the top of the skirt. She reached into her purse and pulled out a safety pin, and pinned a strip of the cloth she had torn from the skirt, so that it looped around like a sash/belt. Picking up a few more pieces of cloth she tied it around her chest.
She slipped into the out fit and grinned, admiring the effect. She sprayed on some Body spray and mouth spray to rid herself of the smell of alcohol, and dropped some Clear Eyes in, so her silver orbs didn't look blood shot. Smiling, she pranced outside of the club and over to the car, dropping the extra torn skirts and cloth into the back seat, through the window Miroku had left open, and walked off to go wander the dark city.
Miroku spotted Kouga and Inu Yasha. "Hey, sorry to interrupt you guys, but we have a problem."
Kouga looked over at Miroku, still rubbing the dozing Inu Yasha's ear. "What?"
Miroku sighed. "Kagome's drunk, and she might be after Inu Yasha tonight."
Kouga stiffened for a moment and then looked down to Inu Yasha. "It's ok, Miroku, I will watch him you go and have fun," he said as he motioned for him to go and do whatever he wanted.
Sango looked at the sleeping boy, then up to Miroku frowning. Why him? Wait... she looked at the fledgling again. Wasn't that the man she worked for? She looked at Miroku cautiously. Why would Kagome be after him?
Miroku turned to Sango. "Do me a favor and go and check on Kagome, and make sure she is ok? I'm going to try to get everyone ready to go home," he said with a sigh as he ran his hand through his dark hair.
Sango nodded and turned, rushing off to the bathroom she had seen the girl heading to. She knocked on the door and opened it. The raven haired girl was nowhere in sight. Her eyes landed on the girl's shoes.
"Oh, no…"
She rushed over to go talk to the bartender. "Have you seen anyone barefoot, plastered, and laughing their ass off?"
The bartender laughed. "You mean Kagome? She left a while ago."
Sango paled. "What do you mean, left?"
"As in left. She went out the door, laughing like the happiest girl in the world."
Sango groaned and rushed outside, seeing the tattered rags of Kagome's dress fluttering in the window of a car. Her eyes widened and she rushed over to find the pieces of the dress and her purse. She slammed her head on the car and dropped the girl's shoes beside it, rushing back in to Miroku.
"Miroku. We have a problem. Kagome's out some where in the city. Drunk, lost, and from what I saw in the car, not wearing a whole hell of a lot."
Kagome pranced down the streets of the city, barefoot and happy as a drunk could be. Every shop she passed, she peered into the windows, giggling and fawning over what she saw. This was going to be a fun night. Dancing off down the street, glancing up at all the pretty lights, she started down the avenue on her adventure.
Miroku's color drained from his face. "Damn it! Why this, tonight?!" he growled as he headed for the door. "Let's go and see if we can find the girl and get her home," Miroku said, none to happy as he looked over at Sango.
Sango looked at him in disbelief. "Do you know how big that city is???? She could be anywhere! They'd have trouble finding her with a S.W.A.T. team, and you think we are going to find her with two people??"
He ran his hand through his hair again and pulled the elastic out of it, letting his hair fall down. "Well, what other choice do we have? Leave her out on her own, or find her?"
She pulled her cell phone out of her purse and slapped it into his hand. "One, you call anyone you know here in the city who loves you enough to do a favor, because I don't want get the cops getting involved with underage drinking. Two, there are your two friends."
She rolled her eyes and muttered, "Men," before walking off to go talk to Kouga and Inu Yasha about their newest crisis.
Kagome blinked up the street, and saw a black cat. She laughed and clapped her hands, then raced after it. The cat turned into an alley, and Kagome followed after it cautiously. "Kitty?" she called, disappearing into the shadows, not seeing the flash of metal the moonlight allowed as she trained her blurry eyes at the end of the alley.
Kouga raised his eyes to the girl who was walking towards him "What is it?"
Sango's face was set into a deep scowl. "Kagome is out walking somewhere in the city."
Kouga scowled. "And you want me to do what? Call the police to look for her?"
She stared at him for a moment. "I want you to help me look for her," she said slowly, as if she were talking to a child.
Kouga growled and stood pounding his fist down on the table, making it shake. "Don't talk down to me! I am not stupid, nor am I a child!"
The eyes of the others fell onto the commotion. "What's going on?" Soryo asked Kouga.
"Nothing, Soryo, please go back to your mate," Kouga said, his tone a bit calmer than what it was before.
Sango's eyes darkened considerably and her eyes flashed at Ryo for a moment before her gaze returned to Kouga. "I don't know what hole you crawled out of, but if you are willing to let a girl have who knows what happen to her out there, then..." suddenly she trailed off, not having the words in her vocabulary to express the disgust that was reflected on her face as she looked at him. She spun on her heel and whirled out of the room.
Kouga sighed as he looked at Miroku. "Inu Yasha, get up and let's get going."
Inu Yasha got up to his feet and followed Kouga and Miroku out the door of the club.
"We don't need to get separated," Miroku said as they walked down the street, looking for Kagome.
Sango's head snapped up as a yelp caught her attention down the avenue she was walking down. She turned around and dashed towards the direction the noise had come from.
"Kagome?" she called.
She slowed to a walk, looking around, passing a dark alley. Not even a drunk Kagome was stupid enough to go down one of those.
"Kagome?" she called again. "Kagome, Dammit, where'd you go?"
Suddenly a shrill scream rang out behind her, and the girl felt as if her heart nearly stopped. She whirled around and dashed down the alley, as a car pulled up to the stop light behind her, lighting enough to see one figure bent over another one.
Sango's eyes narrowed and she dropped her purse on the ground, rushing at the one shadow, and crushed the heel of her shoe against its skull. It gave a small, "Oompfh," before it crumpled to the ground.
"Oh my god…" Sango muttered as another passing car's headlights caught Kagome's body.
The guys heard the screaming and ran towards the sound of it.
"Kagome!!!" Inu Yasha yelled as he ran. Miroku looked half scared out of his mind when he saw Sango.
"Sango ..." he whispered.
Sango looked up from where she was crouched over the smaller figure on the ground. Her face was pale and she looked sick. "Go get the car," she commanded silently, but firmly.
Miroku nodded and ran back to go and get the car. Kouga walked over to look at the figure that was lying on the ground. "What happened?" he asked.
The shaken girl pointed a trembling finger at the man on the ground, blood dripping from her hand, as she quickly clapped another hand over the other girl's side.
Kouga pulled off his coat and laid it over Kagome as he heard a car race up behind them. Miroku laid on the horn.
"Hurry lets go!!" he screamed.
Kouga knelt down and picked up Kagome, and rushed her to the car with Inu Yasha close on his heels, looking at the girl in horror. Kouga got into the car with the crumpled girl in his lap and Inu Yasha beside of him.
"Kagome, wake up..." Inu Yasha whispered as he stroked her cheek.
Sango climbed into the car and threw a piece of Kagome's dress at Kouga. "Cover her wound up, and put a lot of pressure on it," she choked out looking at all the blood on her hands and Kagome's own body.
Kouga took the cloth and pressed it to her wound as Miroku took off like a bat out of hell.
"Someone call the hospital and tell them we are coming," Miroku said as he took a turn at high speed.
Sango nodded and flipped open her cell, and dialed the number, speaking in hurried tones with the person on the other end.
Kagome's eyes opened halfway, her vision sliding in and out of focus. She looked up at Inu Yasha. Why was he looking at her like that? Her body was throbbing with pain, causing her to groan. Just that small action took so much energy. She wanted to go back to sleep. It didn't hurt in the dark...
"Kagome..." Kouga said to get her attention, "Stay awake, don't close your eyes."
Miroku ran through a red light, and barely avoided hitting a car.
Inu Yasha's brows knit together as he looked down at her. "Don't you die on me bitch," he said hoping to make her mad enough to yell at him, hell even hit him.
Sango gripped the arm rests and shut her eyes tightly, trying to convince herself that they weren't all going to die in a fiery crash.
Kagome winced and coughed a couple of times, her body attempting to curl into a fetal position. Her eyes opened slightly to look at Inu Yasha.
"Shut up... Inu...Kun," she whispered hoarsely as a trickle of blood leaked out of the corner of her mouth.
Inu Yasha growled, trying not to act worried. "Don't tell me to shut up, bitch!" he scowled down at her.
Kouga looked at Inu Yasha confused at why he was cursing at Kagome. "Inu Yasha, that's enough..." Kouga looked down at his blood covered hand. "Kagome, you have to stay awake, we are almost there," he said in a hushed tone as Miroku pulled into the hospital emergency lane and parked in front of the hospital doors.
She whimpered and laid her head against Kouga's chest. "It hurts..."
Sango rushed out of the car and ran into the doors, alerting the staff that they had arrived. She rushed over to throw her purse on the counter and kick her shoes off.
Kagome closed her eyes again. "I wanna... sleep...." she groaned.
Kouga got out of the car. "Kagome, stay awake!" his voice boomed into their ears Inu Yasha followed behind them.
"Stay awake damn it!!" Inu Yasha yelled out his plea. "Don't you fucking die on me!!"
Kagome whimpered in pain and grimaced as paramedics rushed over, taking the girl from Kouga and placing her on the soft white mattress and wheeling her into the hospital swiftly.
Kouga and Inu Yasha watched her be rolled away as Miroku rushed through the doors, from moving the car.
"Is she ok?" he asked.
Kouga shook his head as he wrapped an arm around Inu Yasha. "She looks really bad."
Sango ran past them up the hall, and into the room to help out with the girl, leaving the boys outside for the moment.
Inu Yasha sat down in a chair and held his head in his hands, fighting back tears. Kouga stood next to him and rubbed his back while he watched Miroku pace back and forth.
A good while later, the doctors and nurses began to disperse out of the room, looking grim.
Sango was the last one to come out of the room, and tears for her friend were gathered in her eyes, threatening to spill over.
Inu Yasha looked up at the girl. "How is she?"
Sango looked at him, a saddened look on her face. She found she couldn't say anything, and turned around, to face Miroku.
A doctor beside her, who had been in there, as well, nodded understandingly, and looked over at the boys, "If you have things to do, you might want to get to them. Otherwise, you need to get a set of clothes."
Inu Yasha looked confused. "What? Is she ok or not?! Answer me!" he yelled out in anger.
The doctor held his hands out to quiet him. "She's alive, if that's what you mean. If she makes it through the night...well..." He raised his eyes up to look at the sky. "That's up to the big guy to decide." He turned and walked down the hall.
Inu Yasha turned and kicked the hell out of the chair he had been sitting in causing it to slide across the floor. "NOT AGAIN!!!" he yelled up at the ceiling. "How many more friends will you take from me?!" Inu Yasha stood there, panting, as Kouga pulled him to his chest and wrapped his arms around him. Inu Yasha buried his face into Kouga's chest and burst into tears. Miroku leaned against the wall, fighting his own battle with his tears.
Sango's tears that she had been holding back, spilled over and she covered her face with her hands at Inu Yasha's out burst. She sniffled and sobbed, sinking into a chair, her shoulders trembling with each sob.
Miroku walked over and knelt down beside her wrapping his arms around Sango's shoulders trying to comfort the girl.
She buried her face into his shoulder and threw her arms around him.
"Shhh..." Miroku whispered his own voice shaking. "She will be fine."
She wiped her nose and looked up. "Someone's gotta call Mayu," she choked out.
Kouga shook his head. "I don't think it's good to call her and tell her something like this, right yet," he said stroking Inu Yasha's hair. "Let's wait a little while and see if she improves."
A crash came from Kagome's room, making Sango's head snap to the left.
Inu Yasha looked up from Kouga's chest. "What was that?" he asked, pulling away from him and moving slowly towards the room scared to see what he would find.
Kagome was doubled over from a sitting position in bed, her IV and blood packet on the floor. She was hissing in pain before she weakly lifted her head to smile slightly at Inu Yasha. "Nightmare," she explained in a still roughed up voice, her body paler than the white sheets.
Inu Yasha rushed over and pushed her down onto the bed gently. "Stay still, don't move, damn it."
Kagome looked up at him, startled, and then furrowed her brows. "Inu Yasha..." she mumbled quietly.
He looked down at her concerned. "What is it?" he asked as he moved the hair from her face.
She closed her eyes again, wincing and bringing a hand up to cover his. "Don't leave..." she pleaded, her pallid, clammy skin sweaty against his palm.
He nodded. "No one is leaving here until you do." Inu Yasha smiled sadly. "Everyone is waiting outside for you."
She smiled up at him, the permanent pain etched on her face turning it more into grimace. "Arigatou."
