InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Falling For the Baby Sitter ❯ Sleepless in Boomer ( Chapter 54 )
Inu Yasha scowled; he knew this routine all too well. He banged on the door. "Kagome, open the fuck up now!" he seethed.
When no answer came from inside the room, Sango looked sharply up at Inu Yasha. "Do you have anyway to get into the room besides this door?"
"Go to the kitchen and get me a knife, I will pick the lock," he ordered.
Sango nodded and raced off to do his bidding. Nazuna looked up worriedly, trying to figure out what was going on, but was left in the dark again as Sango raced back through the room with the knife for Inu Yasha.
Inu Yasha took the knife from Sango and dropped down to his knees and pried the knife in between the door and the lock and jerked, forcing the lock to open.
As the door sprung open, Sango looked appalled at the sight before her. Kagome lay on the bed, oblivious to their presence, watching the blood run down her arms, not even blinking as it dripped onto her face.
"Kagome!!" Inu Yasha shouted to her. "What have you done?!"
Kagome blinked once, finally, and looked over to see Inu Yasha. "Nani?" she muttered. She sat up and looked at him, confused.
Tears formed in his eyes as he finally understood all the pain his mother felt when he cut himself like that.
The girl's brows knitted and desperation shone in her eyes. "Inu Yasha, please don't cry," she begged.
Inu Yasha stood up with his head lowered. His bangs covered his eyes as he spoke. "Sango, clean her up and get her to bed." He turned to walk away, but stopped. "Search her room and find what ever she used to cut herself with."
Inu Yasha started walking down the hall and accidentally ran into Kouga. The older man looked at him very concerned when Inu Yasha wrapped his arms around his waist and buried his face into his chest.
Sango sighed and went over to Kagome. "Kagome..." she started. She was cut off, however, by a dark laugh.
Kagome's shoulders trembled and she shook her head. Lifting her gaze to Sango, the elder girl saw the tears streaming down her friend's face while she laughed bitterly. "Amazing." Her croaky voice filled the room as she stood up.
Sango reached a hand out for Kagome, but the girl pushed past her.
Kouga spotted the girl. "Kagome, what did you do?" He saw the blood falling from her arms. "Oh god, not you too."
Kagome gave the man a glare from hell behind her red eyes. Turning, Kagome walked into the bathroom and shut the door firmly. The sound of running water filled the quiet hallway as the girl washed the blood away from her arms.
Kouga looked worried. "What are we going to do with her?" he asked no one in particular. "God, don't let her hurt herself."
Sango looked up at Kouga incredulously. "Don't let her...Kouga, did you see her arms?!"
Kouga looked her sadly. "I know what she did, Sango, I don't want her to get as bad as Inu was." He held Inu Yasha protectively. "He got so bad he almost killed himself. Hell, he did die, but they brought him back."
Inu Yasha stood there looking out into space with vacant, tear filled eyes.
The young woman in the hallway just shook her head. "Kouga..." she sighed and ran her hands over her face. "Everyone needs to start getting ready to settle down for the night. If they're leaving then now's the time to clear out." She turned and pushed into the bathroom to stand beside Kagome.
Kouga looked over his shoulder at Miroku. "Are you leaving or staying?"
Miroku lay back on the couch and rubbed his eyes. "I'm staying; I can't leave and leave them like this."
Kouga nodded and led Inu Yasha to his bedroom to get him settled in. Kouga didn't plan on getting any sleep tonight; he was going to have to keep watch over Inu Yasha and Kagome.
Kouga got Inu Yasha settled in to bed and stroked his ear until he fell into a restless sleep. He sighed as he watched Inu Yasha sleep. "I won't let you get sent back to the asylum, Inu, I promise." Kouga rose from the bed and walked out into the hall.
Sango watched as Kagome reached up into the cabinet and grabbed the alcohol. She winced as the younger girl poured the burning liquid over them. Kagome didn't even flinch as she stared at her arms. Sango sighed and looked up at her face.
"Kagome..."
"What?"
"You promised..."
Screwing the lid back onto the bottle, she placed the bottle back in the cabinet. "I lied."
Sango looked at the girl's expressionless face. "Kagome, what's wrong?"
Kagome looked at Sango with dark eyes, the silver looking dark grey. "Sango just let me be, alright. You have your life, live it and stay out of mine. The last time I was pampered, I got too dependant and nearly got myself and numerous others killed."
Kouga walked over to the bath room door and knocked quietly. "Kagome, Sango, is everything ok in there?" he asked.
Something crashed on the other side of the door and Kagome let out a long string of curses. The door was opened slightly to reveal Sango looking exasperated.
"Will you talk to her, please?"
Kouga nodded and walked into the bathroom. "Kagome, what's wrong?" he asked her kindly.
The girl looked up from where she was crouched on the bathroom floor picking up shards of glass. "Nothing, a bottle broke, that's all."
Kouga bent down and started helping her pick up the shards of glass. "Kagome, tell me what's bothering you."
A flicker of irritation and disbelief danced across her eyes and she shook her head. "Nothing, Kouga."
He sighed as he stared down at the floor for a moment. "Listen, I know when things are bothering people, and I know you have something troubling on your mind." Kouga started to picking up the last few pieces of glass in front of him. "So go ahead and tell me, and let's see what we can do to ease the pain a bit."
A piece of glass sliced open Kagome's hand, but she didn't even flinch as blood started dripping onto the floor. "Kouga, I killed a man yesterday, and tonight, Inu Yasha was badly hurt because of me."
Kouga glanced up at her and noticed her hand bleeding. He reached over and grabbed a towel and wrapped it around her hand. "Kagome, you did what you had to do get your daughter back." He sighed. "No one blames you for it." Kouga smiled sadly. "And as for Inu Yasha he will be fine it could have been much worse."
Kagome looked at the towel around her hand as it started turning red. "He should have just let me take the blame..."
"Inu Yasha knew what would happen if he broke the rules, and he took the punishment." Kouga stood and threw the glass in the trash. "You were a new comer, and they are always easier on the young ones then they are the ones who have been there longer."
She looked up at him a grinned, but it didn't reach her eyes. "Well, at least I would have enjoyed the beating. I'm a masochist."
Kouga smirked. "Kagome, I think its time for you to get some sleep; you look pale and tired."
The girl nodded and stood up, walking to her room, but she paused at the door. "I'm sorry, Kouga." With that said, she went into her room and closed the door.
He sighed and walked down the hall and into the living room. He looked over to Sango. "Sango, I would feel better if you would spend the night with Kagome, in her room, to keep an eye on her."
Sango grunted. "No, that's ok, I like my limbs in tact and un-bruised when I wake up. However, you're welcome to sleep with her, if you don't mind the thrashing she does in her sleep."
Kouga shrugged. "Well, I could take the door off the hinges so we can keep an eye on her." He started rummage through a draw looking for a hammer and screw driver.
A smirk crossed her face. "Man, you're a glutton for punishment, aren't you?"
Kouga's blue eyes hardened. "No, I just know what I went through with Inu Yasha, and I don't want her to punish herself so much that she gets locked up."
She rubbed her face and sat up from her place on the floor. "Wouldn't be the first time," she muttered.
Kouga grabbed the hammer and screw driver and walked down the hall to Kagome's room and knocked. "Kagome, I need a favor from you," he said quietly through the door.
A grunt came from the other side of the door. "What?"
He quietly opened the door and peeked inside. "I need to borrow something, if that will be ok?" Kouga asked politely.
The girl sat on her bed, staring out the window. Her side of the room was completely cloaked in shadow, disabling Kouga's ability to see her. "Which would be?"
Kouga opened the door wide. "Your door, just for tonight."
At first, no answer came from the girl, and no sign of movement even gave hint to that there was someone living in the same room as him. Then, an emotionless voice seemed to float out of the pit of shadows that hid the girl. "Do what you want."
Kouga sighed as he walked into the room. "Kagome, will you open up and talk to me?" he asked as his eyes adjusted to the darkness.
"What do you want me to say?"
"I want you to bare your soul to me so we can figure out how to help you," he said as he crossed the room to her bed.
Finally, she turned her head and looked up at Kouga with her gleaming silver eyes. "So, you want me tell you my inner most thoughts and feelings?"
Kouga nodded as he sat down on the foot of her bed. "That might be helpful."
A flicker crossed her eyes as an ironic smirk set on her lips. "Ok, I'll tell you what I'm thinking right now. I'm thinking that when Mayu grows up, and starts thinking about what I have done to make her lose her father, she will hate me with such a passion, that not even my death would sate her bloodlust. She has been passed around from relative to relative while I tried to get my life back on track so I can actually take care of her, and she's going to think that I have done nothing but harm to her, and that I don't really love her.
I'm thinking that Sango's life would have been a hell of a lot easier without me there to fuck it up when we lived in Sheldon, it would have been a lot less hectic, of that I'm positive.
I'm thinking that if Shippou and Souta spend much more time around me, they are going to be just as hurt as Mayu has been, because I don't know if I'm going to be able to control myself if Sesshoumaru shows up again to hurt Inu Yasha. I've already killed one child's father, so why not add another to my record?
I'm thinking that Nazuna hates me desperately as of right now, because of all the shit I have caused for her brother.
I'm thinking that you definitely could do without me, and then you, Souta, Shippou, and Inu Yasha could all just lead a semi-peaceful life." Taking a hiatus out of her rant to catch her breath, the girl turned back towards the window letting silence once again claim the room.
Kouga looked at the girl in disbelief. "You think too low of yourself, Kagome."
The girl snorted and shook her head. "You don't know what I am, Kouga, you don't know the kinds of things I have done. You damn sure don't know how I feel, and I'm sure if you did, you would think just as low of me."
He scowled. "You're just like Inu Yasha, that much I do know."
"And how, pray tell, am I just like Inu Yasha?"
Kouga narrowed his eyes at her. "Stubborn, bull headed, and too damn head strong for your own good, that's how."
A small smile that finally flickered all over her face, even daring to touch her eyes, glimmered for a second than faded. "Yea... I guess we are alike in that aspect."
"Your more a like than either of you will admit." Kouga stood and walked towards the door. "I will make a deal with you. If you will leave the door open tonight, I will not take it down."
The girl sighed irritably and turned back towards the wall. "Kouga, I don't give a god damn WHAT you do with the flippin' door."
He raised a brow and walked out the door and back down the hall. "That was interesting," he muttered.
Kouga walked over to the closet and pulled out some blankets and pillows for Sango and Miroku. He walked over to them and sat them down near Sango. "Here's some blankets and pillows..." Kouga's eyes flashed over to Miroku snoring on the couch. "If you don't need the pillows to sleep on, may I suggest suffocating him with them so you can get some sleep?"
Sango laughed and shook her head. "He knows I'll beat the living shit out of him when I wake up if I find him up to his lecherous ways."
Kouga smiled. "Well, then I'm off to bed, you guys sleep well," he said as he turned and walked down the hall to Inu Yasha's room. Kouga walked into the room and turned on a lamp and got undressed. He flipped off the lamp and then crawled into bed with Inu and wrapped his arms around him in a protective embrace and falling asleep.
Kagome turned on her music, setting the volume low, as to not wake up anyone. Kidney Thieves soon filled the room, and her eyes drifted closed. Thoughts flew through her mind before focusing on the way Inu Yasha had looked at her when she told him that she loved him. Reopening her eyes, she stared at the ceiling and sighed. "Inu Yasha..." she whispered, her voice lost to the sound of her music.
As Kagome felt exhaustion take over her, she fell into a deep troubling sleep plagued with nightmares and visions of Inu Yasha.
Miroku rolled over on the couch and planted his hand on Sango's chest and gave a good squeeze.
A resounding smack drifted throughout the house as the girl turned to glare up at the boy. "Miroku..." she growled warningly.
He sat up and rubbed his face yawning. "What? What? I was asleep..."
Sango was sitting in front of him, rubbing her sore, offended breast. "You mean to tell me you sleep-grope?"
Miroku blushed. "Did I do that? I'm sorry, I didn't mean to."
The young woman sat, staring at him disbelievingly for a few minutes before doubling over in silent laughter.
The boy looked at her. "What's so funny?" he asked in disbelief.
She sat up wiping tears of laughter from her eyes. "Other than you are a lecher through and through, nothing."
