Inu Yasha sat Kagome down on a small padded bench by the tub as he began to run the hot water. "Listen I am going to leave you all here with Bankotsu. He will keep you safe; he has connections," he mumbled as he turned to help Kagome undress. His fingers fumbled on the hem of her shirt as he began to lift it over her head. "The boys should be here soon. I want you all to stay here. Do not leave under any circumstances! Do you understand?" he demanded as he brushed some of Kagome's hair behind her ear. "Sango will be here so if anything goes wrong or if you need anything she can get it done I am sure,” he added in a softer tone.
Kagome looked up at him, panic putting more energy into her limbs than she'd thought physically possible at the moment. Her hand clamped on his wrist and her chest rose and fell dangerously fast as every whirling thought in her head tried to tumble out of her mouth at once. "No, you can't! Inu Yasha, please don't go. I'm scared, and I can't take care of the kids right now like this! I don't even know this guy from Adam!" Tears welled up in her eyes and she grabbed Inu Yasha's hand with her other one, stopping him momentarily from unbuttoning her jeans. Her fingers tried to grip him tightly but her body's real condition refused to be ignored and she could only manage a small squeeze. "Inu Yasha, please don't leave me..." she gasped past a sob welling up in her throat. Her face dropped as her tears crested over her cheeks and fell onto her jeans and Inu Yasha's hand.
Inu Yasha wiped the tears away from Kagome's face, his heart twisting bitterly. "You won't be alone... Miroku is going by to pick up my mom and sister. Dad will follow as soon as he gets back into town from his business trip." He smiled. "You will have so many people fussing over you that you will want to kill them all."
Kagome looked at him, seeing easily through his careful half truths. "You're not coming back are you?" she whispered, her eyes leaving his and her hand clamping down onto her abdomen. A sharp pain akin to what it had felt like when she'd gotten stabbed twisted her insides. "Why ...?" she almost choked on the next words out of her mouth. "Why did you even ask me to marry you if you're just going to leave me alone here?" She turned her silver eyes back up to him, the pain from her heart being twisted ruthlessly evident within their stormy depths.
The boy grabbed her hand and made her look him right in the eye. "Because I have every intention of coming back. You can't get rid of me that easily." He grinned and planted a kiss on her forehead. "You will get to walk down the aisle and get chained to me for the rest of your life." Inu Yasha choked back a laugh as his troubled brown eyes studied her face, "Poor you." His hands moved to either side of her pale face and he caressed the sides of it with her fingers. "I will stay until you are well, and then I will go and take care of this Jin business.” He stroked her hair and watched her face carefully, as if trying to commit every expression to memory. “I'm scared Kagome. I never meant to get you all into this mess with me," he mumured as tears of pure terror filled his eyes. "I... I don't know for once how this mess is going to turn out."
Kagome lifted a hand to his face and traced her fingers along his jaw line. Her stormy eyes studied his distressed brown ones that were ringed with dark circles of worry. She traced her thumb over his bottom lip, and nestled her face into his hand. "I just can't stand to lose you," she murmured wondering how she'd ever thought she could survive being separated from him again. "Inu Yasha, I'm so sorry..." she whispered softly dropping her gaze to his lips before closing her eyes. "None of this would have even happened if I hadn't chased you away," she said in a hoarse voice wrapping her other hand around one of his wrists.
Inu Yasha shrugged his shoulders as he looked Kagome over with sad eyes. "Not your fault. If I could handle things like an adult, I would have stayed." He gave her a tired smile, untangling his hand from her attempt at a death grip. "But we can't fix what has already been done. We just have to carry on and worry about tomorrow." He reached over and nudged her shoulder gently. "You need a bath and I need a smoke, so you get a bath I will go check on Mayu and talk to big brother about getting rooms set up for the others." He stood up and stretched his arms over his head. "You need to eat something too, in a bit. And don't tell me that you don't feel like it," he said in a warning tone, narrowing dark eyes at her.
Her head was turned down, studying her fingers that were still tingling with his warmth. "You promise you won't leave until you say goodbye?" she asked softly, her hair falling over her shoulder in tendrils. Her hand clenched and she turned her face back to look at him, studying his face as if trying to memorize every contour and line.
"I swear; I won't even go to the store without telling you," Inu Yasha said, laughing and tucking her hair behind her ear again so it stayed out of her eyes. "Now, get cleaned up. I will be outside when you're done." He gave her a serious look, and reached down to squeeze her hand in reassurance. "I promise, I will be right outside." He put his hand on the gold handle and twisted it, opening the door. "I will see what big brother has in the fridge for you after I smoke." Inu Yasha exited the room closing the door gently behind him. He sighed as he rested all of his weight on the bathroom door and began digging in his pockets for a pack of cigarettes.

Mayu gaped at the expansive dining room as Bankotsu stood at the door speaking in hushed tones to a security guard. Everything was porcelain and gold and the windows stretched the entire length of the room from floor to ceiling. Outside she could see the stars and the beautiful view of the estate. She giggled and twirled, her little skirt billowing out, and her tiny arms outstretched. "It's just like Beauty and the Beast!" she said, gaping in wonder.
Bankotsu studied the little girl in awe as he had the cook put a chocolate cake on the dining room table. "Are you hungry, Mayu? Cook's cakes are extremely good if you want a piece."
Mayu's eyes lit up and sparkled in excitement, a slightly bluer shade than Kagome's, and she folded her little arms behind her back and bounced up onto her toes. "Can I pleeeeassseee?" She begged, her face flushed with awe and anticipation.
Bankotsu pulled out a chair for Mayu and motioned for her to sit down."You can have as much as you want," he laughed as he picked up a plate and put it down on the table to begin cutting the cake. "You know my nephews Souta and Shippou?” Bankotsu prodded gently as he slipped the cake onto the plate and then poured her a glass of milk."Were they safe the last time you saw them?"
Mayu nodded, watching his movements impatiently. "Yea, they were with Uncle Miroku. Mommy told Auntie Sango to bring me to my stupid Nana's house and Auntie Kagura told me that it was because Daddy kicked Mommy out again." She kicked her legs back and forth as she babbled on. "Souta said that they were going to Uncle Miroku's to get his cell phone so he could call Uncle Kouga." She grabbed the fork and smiled up at him really big. "Itadakimasu!" she chirped and shoveled a big bite of cake into her mouth. Her eyes widened and she mumbled through her mouthful of food. "Thif if weelly goof!"
Bankotsu looked up as he heard Inu Yasha and Kagome walking down the hall. "It looks like we have company, Mayu. Apparently, Inu Yasha smelled cake and ran for it."
Mayu giggled and nodded. She kicked her legs faster as the sugar rush started kicking in, and continued to shovel another mouthful of cake into her mouth. However her jaw dropped and she simply stared at the door when she saw Inu Yasha and Kagome walking in each with an arm around each other.

The hot water felt amazing on Kagome's body. Her fingers drifted down to her abdomen where the scar from her stab wound had been so many months ago. It was only thanks to Inu Yasha's grandfather that the scar was barely visible against her pallid skin unless you were looking for it. Her hand then lifted to her neck and she sighed. Somehow she had a feeling the cauterized scar would be less forgiving. She focused her thoughts on washing and making sure she didn't have any glass still in her skin. She found a soft yukata lying on a stool by the tub, and she drug herself reluctantly from the heavenly water. She wrapped herself up and drained the tub, walking slowly over to the door and turning the handle. She cracked the door and peeked out, her black hair damp and curling on her face, neck and chest.
True to his word Inu Yasha stood on the other side of the hall, leaning against the wall and smoking a cigarette which he promptly squashed out when he saw Kagome peek around the door. He laughed. "No one here but me, princess. It's ok to come on out." He held his hand out to her and offered her a small smile.
Kagome looked up at him sheepishly and stepped out of the bathroom. She leaned up against the wall next to him and frowned, looking down at her hands. She'd killed another person tonight. She wondered if she looked different, considering how different she felt. Tainted, almost soiled. It didn't matter that she'd just gotten out of the bath, the blood she'd spilled seemed to have sunk through her skin and into her very bones. Though, if she had to do it all over again and it came down to it, she would have killed both Hojou and that Yoshiro man again. She'd done it protect her daughter. She leaned her head against Inu Yasha's shoulder. She looked up at him and smiled, pushing the thoughts from her mind. "Thank you..." she murmured and slipped an arm around his waist to support herself. Her legs were shaking, not enough to be noticeable but enough to make her feel more off balance than usual. She couldn't walk in a straight line without falling over on a good day, let alone when her legs were going on strike.
Inu Yasha smirked and rolled his eyes. "For being a pain in the ass? You're welcome." He wrapped an arm around her shoulders and began to lead her to the dining room.
Kagome took a deep breath in, his scent filling her lungs and soothing her thoughts. "For still being there when I turned around," she murmured.
He turned his head to hide a blush. "I am starving; I need something to eat," he stated as they walked down the almost blinding white hall. "Let us go and raid the fridge!" Inu Yasha directed in a dramatic fashion as he thrust a fist into the air. "It has gone unraided for far too long!" He shrugged one shoulder and glanced over at her out of the corner of his eye. "Yeah I know I'm retarded you don't have to say it I already know."
