Kagome walked in with her arm around Inu Yasha, blushing at the reciprocated embrace around her shoulders, not noticing her little girl's antics or the other person in the room until Mayu's fork clattered to the plate. She looked up sharply and blushed, tugging her yukata closer around herself and turned her body into Inu Yasha's instinctively. She may have been a stripper, but she wasn't a hooker. She'd never had to actually had to carry on a conversation while virtually wearing nothing.
Bankotsu snickered as he turned his gaze away from the pair to give Kagome a bit of privacy. Inu Yasha stepped in front of Kagome and glared at his brother.
"Why are you giving Mayu cake at this time of night? She won't be able to go to sleep until day break now!"
"She was hungry did you expect me to do? Let her starve? Honestly, Inu Yasha," Bankotsu scoffed and shook his head with a sigh. The older man pulled out a cell phone when it began ringing to catch his attention.
Inu Yasha rolled his eyes as he led Kagome over to the table to sit next to Mayu. Bankotsu looked up at Inu Yasha as he closed his phone. "Shippou and Souta are here. The maids are taking them to be washed up and to get a change of clothes." He stood up and placed his palms flat onto the oaken table top. "I will tell cook to make everyone dinner and then you will explain to me, Inu Yasha, exactly what is going on." Bankotsu turned and left the room leaving the trio to the cake.
Mayu stared up at her mother, her eyes sparkling. The lack of sleep for the little girl plus the enormous amounts of sugar she'd just ingested and the giddiness from the tour of the castle causing her to be a little loopy. "Mommy you look like a princess!" she gasped and started tugging on her robe excitedly, dragging it off of her shoulder.
Kagome's eyes shot up and she snatched the cloth, a blush shooting over her face. She pushed the plate of cake away from Mayu, turning slightly green at the sight of it. "Ok, that's enough for you," she said, grapping Mayu's hand and pulling her into her lap, and tilting her head back to look up at Inu Yasha.
Inu Yasha stood there trying not to laugh. "Yea, I think you have had enough cake Mayu. You will be bouncing off the walls the rest of the night." He plucked the little girl from her chair and tossed her in the air spinning her around."Besides Shippou and Souta will be here in a few minutes, and if I remember right, Bankotsu has a huge room that you three can share that has a huge bed to bounce on."
Miroku strolled into the dining room with an unlit cigarette hanging between his lips looking dog tired. "What ever she had; I will take a double of," he muttered as he collapsed into a chair at the table. The poor boy let out a sigh of exhaustion. His hair was out of its usual ponytail and flying all over the place, his shirt was stained and twisted and his jeans had holes in them. He looked absolutely worn ragged.
Kagome looked up at Miroku and frowned, seeing the boys come flying in behind him to tackle Inu Yasha. Some rather put out maids with towels in hand stood at the entrance to the room, but with one look from Inu Yasha, they sputtered something in French and bustled away.
Mayu squealed and giggled, hugging Inu Yasha's neck as tight as she could. She waved ecstatically at the boys. "Hey Souta! Hey Shippou!" she squealed. "Why didn't you tell me your Uncle Bankotsu was a prince!?"
Souta looked at Mayu "He isn't a Prince he is just rich."
Mayu stuck her tongue out at Souta. "Nuh uhh, he says he has horsies, and a library, and he even has a cook! That means he's a prince!"
"Hey, Miroku, where's Sango?" Kagome asked skeptically. She suddenly remembered the last time she'd seen or heard from her was at her mother's house, and she still hadn't told her the bad news about her poor Sunfire. Kagome felt a very real fear of death go through her as she anticipated the woman's reaction.
Inu Yasha sat Mayu down on her feet as he looked over at Miroku's cigarette and the lighter inching its way towards it. "Light that thing, and I will kill you," he said in a hiss.
Miroku rolled his eyes at Inu Yasha. "Yeah, yeah. I know, it will kill me and she had to go to the bathroom once we got here."
Inu Yasha walked over and snatched the cigarette from Miroku. "Cancer won't get you, I will. Don't even think about it, pal."
"God, Inu. Who shit in your corn flakes and told you they were cocoa puffs? Geez," Miroku pouted.
Inu Yasha growled and threw the cigarette into the garbage.
Kagome's eyes widened a little bit, but she blushed, a small giddy happiness shining unbidden in her eyes. "Inu Yasha, its ok... I'll just go outside," she mumbled quietly, trying to hide how much she liked the feeling of being protected. "I need to go talk to Sango anyway."
Inu Yasha put a hand on her shoulder "Just don't go out of sight....Yea, my brother has security, but I don't know how good it is."
Miroku pulled out another cigarette and Inu Yasha proceeded to pound his head in. "What the hell did I just say, you fucking pervert?!"
"Oww! Oww! Oww! Damn it, quit!" Miroku howled as he elbowed Inu Yasha in the stomach. "Geez! Never mind, Kagome! I will go outside and smoke before I get killed," he muttered and stalked out of the dining hall.
Souta and Mayu still stood in a hot debate at the end of the table by Kagome and Shippou was clambering into her lap and nestling against her. She stood up and made an attempt to subdue the children, switching the younger boy to her hip, her robe falling open a bit at her shoulders, revealing an expanse of collar bone that made Inu Yasha's mouth go slightly dry.
"No he isn't! Inu Yasha says he is a rich up tight asshole! He says that if you shove a lump of coal up his butt it turns to a diamond!" Souta insisted, trying to correct Mayu. "Isn't that right Yasha?" He turned to ask his Uncle.
"Yeah Inu Yasha is that so?" Bankotsu asked as he walked into the dining hall.
Kagome lifted a hand to her mouth and giggled, and wrapped her arms around Shippou and pulled him around in front of her. Strange, how she felt more comfortable being half naked around the pervert Miroku than she did with this man. Maybe it was just because most men that she knew with a lot of money were always looking at her for something that they damn sure weren't allowed to buy. Kouga of course was an exception to this. Kagome beat down the uncomfortable sensation that came with thinking of Kouga after today's events and ducked behind Inu Yasha again to grab his hand.
Sango went running by, but upon seeing the group of people inside of the dining hall she skidded to a stop. She smiled, spotting Mayu and Kagome having a similar attack of the giggles. "Hey you guys have you seen Miroku?"
"Yea he just went outside to get a smoke." Inu Yasha said as he ignored his older brother.
Bankotsu eyed Sango as he walked past her, his eyes looking her over, calculating. "You must be the one that keeps the pervert in line. My little sister has told me tales." He sat down at the table. "The kids' room is ready when ever they feel like going to bed. I do believe the maid found a pair of PJ's for Mayu."
Kouga came strolling in behind Sango. "Kids things are in their room..." he muttered as his eyes landed on Kagome and Inu Yasha. "And I think I am going to bed good night..." he mumbled to himself as he turned on his heel quickly and left.
Kagome pulled her hand back from Inu Yasha's as she saw the look on Kouga's face. Her heart twisted as she looked up and saw Inu Yasha's eyes. She looked over to Sango who was eyeing them strangely as well. She moved to set Shippou on the ground.
The older girl nodded her head inconspicuously out the door. "Well, I can't talk to Miroku anyway then," she said. "Hey. Kagome, why don't you come with me? You're not looking so hot."
Mayu, already on a sugar high squealed and ran over to grab the abandoned plate of cake and showed it to Shippou. "Heey you want some? It's really really good!" she giggled and bounced up and down.
Kagome paused and nodded and moved to step around Inu Yasha, around the same time her body decided it had had enough, and she felt her knees give out beneath her.
Inu Yasha reached out and caught Kagome before she fell to the floor and gave her a worried look. "She's right. You don't look too good. Let's get you to bed." He picked her up and began walking down the hall to the bedrooms. "Stay with Uncle Bankotsu, kids. I will be right back."
Bankotsu looked totally mortified. "Inu Yasha, don't you--!"
Before he could finish, the boy was already gone.

"You should have told me that you weren't feeling good, Kagome," Inu Yasha grumbled as he picked a room and opened the door to carry her inside. "I mean, it's not good for you- eh, well… you know what I mean." He glanced over his shoulder at Sango as he put Kagome down on the bed.
Sango's eyes narrowed suspiciously and Kagome shot Inu Yasha another sheepish glance. "Sorry," she mumbled as she settled into the blankets and against the pillows. She looked up at Inu Yasha as he tucked her in and smiled softly. "You know, it's not like I'm going to break. If I wasn't dead tired, I'd probably be really pissed at how you're babying me." She brushed a piece of his hair out of his face. She nodded over at Sango. "She's here now and can watch me. It's ok if you want to go talk to Kouga. Sango won't let anything happen to me, right?" she asked Sango, giving her a look that left her no room to disagree.
".. Right," Sango agreed reluctantly, feeling very suspicious of the way they were acting.
A sad look glazed over Inu Yasha's face when Kagome mentioned Kouga. "Not now... not tonight. Maybe another time…"
He stood up and looked at Sango feeling a bit uneasy. "Make sure she stays in bed, please?" Inu Yasha asked as he began to leave the room. He stopped and gave Kagome the cheesiest fake smile he could muster. "Get some rest, don't stay up gabbing all night." With that he left to go get the kids.
By the time he got back to Bankotsu the man looked completely at a loss, since the kids ate most of the cake and were on a sugar rush from hell.
Mayu was running in circles with Souta sing songing and trying to see who'd get dizzy first. She would stop every once in a while to run over and give the newly dubbed Prince Bankotsu a kiss on the cheek, giggle, and then run away again.
Inu Yasha sighed "This is going to be a long night."

Sango walked up to Miroku a few hours later and wrapped her hands around his waist and rested her head on his shoulder. She breathed deeply and sighed as every muscle that was tensed seemed to relax simultaneously just at the feel of his skin on hers. "Something's going on with Kagome and Inu Yasha, and I mean aside from the obvious." She mumbled quietly.
Kouga stumbled past Sango and Miroku reeking of alcohol as he went to his room. Miroku sighed as he watched the man walk away. "That would be, what? Seems like the same old same if you ask me." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a cigarette "All this shit is making me smoke more and more." Miroku put the cigarette between his lips and sighed when he couldn't find his lighter. "Oh, bloody wonderful. I must have lost my lighter some where."
Sango scowled and snatched his cigarette out of his mouth and threw it over the balcony. "I forgot how impossible you were when it came to them. Never mind, you're probably not interested anyway," she snapped at him, her hand automatically going to her abdomen. She watched Kouga disappear down the hall. "I just wish everyone could be happy, this is so damn frustrating. Inu Yasha's finally back and at a time when we could all be celebrating and being happy everyone's just miserable and wrapped up in their problems." She felt her mood swing going on a rollercoaster as she stamped her foot and felt irrational tears start to spill over. Her hand on her abdomen tightened into a fist, and you could almost see the small definition of another curve growing already.
Miroku walked up behind Sango and wrapped his arms around her and laid his head on her shoulder."Don't be upset Sango I'm sorry. I am just wound up....I just wish I could make things better but I just feel helpless." He gave her a kiss on the cheek "Wouldn't it be nice if we had some good news to share? Why don't we tell everyone about the wedding? Maybe that would cheer everyone up." Miroku smiled as he turned Sango around to look him in the eyes. "Oh please, don't cry. I can't take seeing those pretty eyes full of sad tears." He reached up, using a thumb to brush them away "Smile for me please?"
Sango looked up at him and smiled softly, unable to resist his endearing coaxing. She figured that with the company she was with right now, this was as quiet and pleasant of a moment she was going to have until they got out of here. She'd almost burst from not telling Kagome earlier, but she figured it was something she had to tell Miroku before she told anyone else. She pulled Miroku's hands into his and gave them a squeeze.
"Miroku... do you remember on Christmas when I said I had something I needed to tell you?" she asked quietly, her eyes downcast and focused on his feet.
Miroku looked up at her with a sulking look. "Yes, and you still haven't told me." He put a hand under her chin and made Sango look him in the eyes. She was behaving strangely to him and he was becoming very worried very fast. His heart started pounding in his chest and his fingers tightened slightly. "Is something wrong?" Miroku asked nervously."You are starting to make me worry." Things started running through his mind at a mile a minute. 'Is she sick?' Miroku thought to himself. 'Oh God, don't tell me I am going to lose her?!' Tears began to build in his eyes and threatened to run down his cheeks. "What is it Sango? What ever it is we can tackle it."
Sango looked up at him, baffled at his word choice, and because of such she was having a hard time trying to psych herself up for the next words to come from her mouth. "Miroku," she started softly, her honey brown eyes burrowing into his deep violet ones. She took another deep shaky breath, looked down and went for it. "Miroku, I'm pregnant!" She blurted out, hoping he wouldn't shove her away, but bracing herself just in case. Her shoulders were up and her face was turned with her eyes clenched tight, and her jaw was firmly set.
Tears ran down Miroku's face as he hugged her tight. "Its ok, Sango. We will..." Suddenly, what she had said sank into his thick skull and he froze. "You...you're pregnant?" he asked, relieved. "Oh God, thank you ...I thought you were sick or dying..." He began crying tears of joy and relief. "Oh Sango, you nearly gave me a heart attack."
Miroku dropped to his knees, placing a hand on her stomach. "Hi there! Wait, does it have ears yet?" He asked as he looked up at Sango and laughed again, his eyes sparkling. "Oh well, doesn't matter ...I love you, you know that don't you?"
Sango looked at him in shock, and then started laughing in relief herself. She put her hands on his head. "Well, that was definitely not the reaction I was expecting,” she laughed and ran a thumb over his cheek. "I love you too, Miroku," she murmured.
