Chapter Two
“I can do this,” Kagome whispered to herself as she stepped out the shower and wrapped herself in a towel. It had become her mantra since she'd made up her mind to do this. Kagome had always been the obedient one. Already complacent by nature she became even more obedient to keep the steam off her brother when he rebelled. Souta had a lot of guts, shunning the cushion of a wealthy family and living his dream of being a star soccer player.
“He had to get those guts from somewhere,” Kagome said as she slathered on scented lotion then slipped into her sexiest underwear. “and we're siblings so that means that somewhere deep down inside I have those guts too.” She sat down at her vanity to blow dry and style her hair. Then she carefully applied her make up.
A subtle shadow to make her eyes stand out, some blush to hide the paleness of her face, and a thick coat of siren red lipstick to bolster her courage. Then she wiggled into the tiny black dress that she'd bought on a whim, grabbed the purse that was only big enough to hold her lipstick, I.D. and condoms, and slipped on the highest heels she'd ever worn. Then surveyed herself in the mirror. “Man up Kagome,” she told her reflection. “Just once your going to do something for yourself. You can do this. You've got the guts...” she took a deep breath. “Really really deep down.” She left her apartment and headed for her car.
Kagome knew that she wouldn't be able to talk herself out of this arrangement. Tradition dictated that her marriage would be arranged by her parents and she'd dodged that bullet as long as she could. But before she submitted to tradition, she was going to do one last thing for herself. She was going to find a man and use him. She wanted just one night of passion. No small talk, no names, no strings. Just this one night before she settled into the life of posing, social gatherings, charity fund raisers and whatever else this marriage would bring her. Just one night, that's all she wanted.
She took another deep breath before climbing out of her car. Took confidence from the appreciative look in the valets eyes. She flashed him a flirtatious smile then headed straight for the door of the club. After a full body appraisal the bouncer stepped back and opened the door and Kagome entered the smoky club. She scanned the club and it's inhabitants before heading straight for the bar. Maybe a drink would bolster her fading courage. She slid onto a barstool and tossed the bartender what she hoped was a confident smile.
“Scotch. On the rocks.”
“Coming right up,” replied the bartender returning her smile. Kagome remained at the bar nursing her drink and flirting with the bartender. She wasn't stupid, she knew it was part of his job description. Provide a listening ear, flirt with the ladies, but she couldn't get the courage to try her wiles on someone else. She was about to give up when someone slid onto the barstool next to her.
“This seat taken?” he asked. His voice sent tingles down her spine.
“Not at all,” she replied. The huskiness of her voice surprised her.
“You can't tell me a beautiful woman like you is here all alone. It's impossible.”
Kagome turned to reply but forgot her words when she caught sight of him. Eyes so dark they almost seemed purple and pitch black hair almost to the middle of his back. She realized she was staring and recovered quickly. She tossed back the last of her scotch and said dryly, “Miracles happen.” She turned to the bartender. “Another scotch.”
“Scotch?” said the stranger. “For a little thing like you?”
“What do you suggest then?” asked Kagome sipping her new drink. He paused as though thinking.
“Sex on the beach,” he said finally.
“Is that an offer?” she purred. Where did this confidence come from?
He grinned. “Only if you want it to be.” Kagome smiled into her drink but didn't comment. “At the risk of sounding cliché, do you come here often?”
“If you know you'll sound cliché why ask?” Kagome replied.
“So I can find out if I should be visiting here every night in hopes of seeing you.”
“Oh, you smooth talker you,” Kagome replied. “No, I'm not here that often. The club scene usually isn't my thing.”
“Well it's just my luck that you wanted a change,” he grinned.
“Yeah, just your luck,” she drained the glass. “Excuse me a moment.” She stood up and headed for the bathrooms making sure to put a little extra swing in her hips. When she got into the bathroom she collapsed against the door breathing deep. Then she straightened and crossed to the mirror. Her
eyes were shining and her face was flushed. “Who are you?” she asked the reflection. Then answered the question herself. “Someone who's finally doing something for herself. Someone who's gonna get lucky tonight.” Smiling she smoothed her hair and stepped out of the bathroom only to come face to face with her friend from the bar.
Inuyasha couldn't believe his luck. He'd came here with the sole intention of getting rip roaring drunk. His day had already been going pretty bad but it took a decidedly downhill turn after the call from his asshole brother, the so-called head of the family, demanding he come home in a week for God only knows why. But what does he see when he gets here? Not just a beautiful woman all alone, but a beautiful woman all alone who was willing to flirt with him. And it was going pretty well. At least that's what he thought until she left and didn't come back. She's probably ditching you. He sighed and looked at her newly vacated seat only to notice she'd left her purse behind. He pulled out a business card and quickly slipped it into her purse. Maybe she'd change her mind and call him. He stood and went in the direction she'd gone. Giving her his card wouldn't do any good if she left without her purse. As he entered the hallway a door opened and she stepped out.
“Hi,” she said seeming startled.
“Hi,” he replied hoping he didn't sound as dorky as he felt. “You were gone for a while I thought maybe you were trying to ditch me without hurting my feelings. But you forgot your purse.”
“Oh,” she reached out and took the bag then looked up at him. He felt his insides tighten when she licked her bottom lip then smiled. “I was coming back. Excuse me one more moment.” She ducked back into the bathroom with a wink. Inuyasha stood there bemused. Was that an invitation? Only one way to find out. He pushed the door open and stepped inside. She looked up and smiled. “This is the women's bathroom,” she said before turning back to the mirror and reapplying her lipstick.
“I know,” he said. “But I decided that I couldn't wait one more moment.” He moved closer as he spoke crowding her her against the sink. The undisguised hunger in her eyes gave him the confidence to reach out and pull her body so it was flush with his.
She licked her lips again drawing his attention to her mouth. “Impatient much,” she said with a laugh.
“Very,” he agreed before slanting his mouth over hers. When she didn't reject him he slowly slid his hands over her body resting them on her bottom and pressing her close. She moaned and slid her fingers into his hair raking his scalp with her short nails. He lifted her onto the counter trailed kisses down her slender neck then froze when the door started to open. There were voices and then the door closed. She let out a pent up breath and leaned her head on his shoulder before pushing him away.
“We can't do this here,” she said hopping down. She smoothed her hair, straightened her dress, then once again reapplied her lipstick.
“I don't know why your doing that,” he said hugging her from behind. “I'm only gonna kiss it off.”
“Really?” she asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Really,” he replied. “My place is about five minutes away. We could—”
“Too far,” she interrupted.
“There's a hotel across the street.”
“Now your speaking my language,” she turned in his arms. “I'll get my car from the valet, meet you in the lobby.” She pressed a kiss to his chest where the collar of his shirt opened. She inspected her handiwork and smiled.
“Works for me,” agreed Inuyasha.
“See you there,” she winked and walked out of the bathroom. Inuyasha leaned against the sink and pressed a hand to the crimson kiss she'd left on his chest.
