When the sun began to set behind the trees was the key for Sango. She got up and walked in slow motion back to Kaede's hut. She had tried to figure out what had happened between her and Inuyasha, but the only thing she could make of it was that it had felt too good. Just thinking about his tongue made her heart beat faster and a pool of warmth moved to settle in her lower stomach. "Inuyasha, please come back and explain things to me."she thought as she saw the village come into her view.

Inuyasha had not gone very far, he was afraid that the houshi might try something on Sango when he was not around, no, he had promised Sango that he would protect her from the monk's wandering hands. But he was afraid that if he was to close to her he would lose it again. "What was that smell anyway? It was… so sweet and yet… I could not get enough of it; I still can not get enough of it. I want to smell it again." He sighed and followed Sango when she got up to walk back to the village.

Kaede greeted the taijya when she came through the entrance to the miko's hut.

- Hello Sango-san, where have you been all day? You missed dinner, said Kaede.

- Uhmm what?

- Where have you been?

- Oh, I have been thinking, nothing serious though. I am sorry I worried you Kaede-obaasan.

- Oh, I was not worried, but I am worried about the houshi. Perhaps you want to explain why Inuyasha is sending killing glares at Miroku? What happened during your last trip?

- Umm, well… Houshi-sama behaved very badly again and I snapped and almost killed him. And when I ran into the woods, Inuyasha came to get me. He… he comforted me when I was feeling bad, a-and he keeps houshi-sama away from me now.

- Is that all? asked Kaede and raised the eyebrow over her patch.

Sango nodded, she refused to go into what happened in the field earlier. That was something she wanted to talk with Inuyasha about before talking to anyone else.

- Because when I asked Miroku-sama if you were Inuyasha's mate he exploded and disappeared. I have not seen him since this morning either.

- You asked what??!!

Sango turned and saw a blushing hanyou in the doorway. Kaede had the decency to look away. Perhaps her assumptions were too drastically after all.

- I am sorry Inuyasha, I just thought…

- No, Sango-chan is not my mate, snorted Inuyasha. "Not yet she isn't."

- Oh, said Sango and she looked away with hurt in her eyes.

- Sango-chan? What has happened since you are calling her Sango-chan?

- Keh, just let it go old woman, he said and turned his golden gaze to Sango. He had heard the hurt in her voice. "Does this mean that she wants to be my mate?"

- Are you two hungry? asked Kaede.

- No, not particularly, said Sango and took a few steps towards the entrance. - I am going to get some sleep instead. Good night Kaede-obaasan.

- Good night Sango-san.

Sango brushed against Inuyasha when she went outside and he soon followed her. She took a deep breath and began walking down the road. She heard Inuyasha stroll behind her and she picked up her pace a bit.

Inuyasha snarled when he noticed that she tried to get away from him. They needed to talk, really talk if they were to get this mess cleaned up.

Sango felt a hand grab her arm and she was turned around. Her dark green eyes met a pair of glowing pools of gold. She gasped lightly when she felt his other arm go around her waist and he pulled her close, making sure that she could not get away.

- Sango-chan, we need to talk, whispered Inuyasha.

- About what? she sneered.

- Did I hurt you when I said that you were not my mate?

- I… I don't know what you are talking about…

- Don't lie to me Sango-chan; I could hear it in your voice.

- I will not tell you anything unless you tell me what the hell you were doing to me when we played in the field, she almost shouted.

- ??

- Don't you dare try to worm away from this, tell me why you licked me!!

- I am sorry for that, I really am. I did not know what I was doing until it was too late. I understand if you hate me, I took advantage of you… I am sorry Sango-chan.

- I don't hate you Inuyasha-kun, so do not assume such things. I just wanted to know what you did, because it felt good… Her voice toned away and she leaned into his chest, hiding her face from his view.

- Huh?

"She thought it felt good? Did she liked my licking?"Inuyasha was stunned. He took two fingers and put under her chin and gently forced her to look at him.

- I don't know why I did it Sango-chan, for a few moments I was driven by my demon instincts because of the way you smelled, he said truthfully.

- Yes, you said I smelled. Shall I take that as an insult? Snorted Sango.

- No, if you remembered things correctly I said that I thought you smelled heavenly. And that is the truth Sango-chan. I really loved that smell; it made me feel better than good. It was your smell that made me act on instinct rather than logic. And if I could, I would love for you to smell like that again.

- …?

- But I am not sure that I want to wrestle you for it, smiled Inuyasha gently.

Sango blushed and tried to divert her face from his warm smile.

- I have answered your question, now you will answer mine. Why did you sound so hurt when I told Kaede that you were not my mate, demanded Inuyasha.

- I don't know, when you said it… it felt like you drove a knife through my heart, whispered Sango.

- So you don't think that I am a disgusting half breed or something like that?

- No, said Sango and shook her head. - I would never think something like that about you Inu-kun, never!

- Thank you Sango-chan, it means a lot to me.

Inuyasha rested his forehead against hers. Somehow her answer was more pleasing than anything else. It had warmed his heart like no fire ever could.

- Come let's get some sleep ok, said Inuyasha and pulled away.

Sango nodded and let him escort her back to the hut.

They never noticed the black blue eyes that had been watching them with growing jealousy and anger. Miroku had heard them talking so he had crawled closer to listen in on them, and what he heard made him more angry than Naraku's curse ever could. Sango was his bride to be - he would not let a filthy hanyou lay a paw on her body, not if he had a thing to say about it. "Sango is mine.. only mine."

Sango stopped and moved around to see Inuyasha take a step away from her. She grabbed his hand and he looked at her.

- Please Inu-kun, stay with me tonight again? she asked him.

- Is that what you want?

- Yes, I feel safe with you, said Sango and bit her lip. - Especially when I can sleep in your arms.

Inuyasha raised his eyebrows in surprise. He had not expected that answer, but he smiled and nodded. He sat down with his back against the wall, but instead of letting Sango sit next to him, he yanked her down between his legs and pulled her back against his chest. He put his arms around her waist and let his hands rest on her belly. She wiggled a bit until she felt comfortable and she let out a sigh of content.

- Is this ok with you Sango-chan? asked Inuyasha.

- Mmm, said Sango and felt a shiver course through her body when she felt his hot breath in her ear.

- Good, sleep now.

She nodded and closed her eyes, feeling perfectly safe inside his strong arms.
