Chapter 2: Where I Am Now

There in the darkness, he dreamed. He dreamed of electric blue eyes framed by silky black locks of hair. Perhaps it was a side of effect of the holy ki, but he could almost feel his fingers twitch to run through the wavy locks of hair. Who knew how long he had been imprisoned in this…coffin. Really, how medieval could the world get? Even though he was turned against his will, he never slept in a coffin.

They were back. He could easily pick up the chanting with his youkai hearing. He wanted to tear all of them to pieces. Did those foolish youkai not understand? No one would be able to free him. He was cursed to always remain in this state of awareness.

He dreamed of her laughter. It had to be after a century or so after the dreams began to haunt him that he knew the figure was a woman, a tantalizing seductress with a voice to make the angels jealous. He never saw her face, not that it mattered anymore. Somewhere amongst the years, his cold heart had fallen for the blue eyed angel. Was this the one destined to free him from his imprisonment? Kami have mercy upon her, he was never going to allow her away from him. She would belong to him.

Mine.

His inner beast was in agreement. There were times when he was thankful that the sealing spell allowed his inner beast to be awake. It was almost as if, he wasn't alone. When he was alive, he never cared for company. He liked his solitude, but after being sealed in a damn coffin for who knows how long, any company would be welcomed. There were times though that he wished he could put his inner beast to sleep. It was only when his dream temptress came to him. He wondered if it was possible to have a hard on in this sealing state.

The chanting stopped suddenly and he could hear whimpering of a female. His hearing strained to catch it. But alas, it was not the voice of his chosen female. Kami wouldn't save those fools from his wrath if they harmed her. He wondered why they wanted to free him, not that he didn't want to be freed from his seal, if only to find the female who haunted him. He had caused so much devastation upon the world; it was only a wonder to why they wanted to free him. Perhaps the fools thought they could control him. If he was capable, he would have laughed. No one controlled this Sesshomaru.

Kagome returned home to Sunset Shrine where she had spent all her life. Her Jiichan had long sense past away and her mother remarried. She had the place all to herself as her brother, Souta was away at University.

As she walked in, she patted Bouyo on the head and turned on the light. The neko kitten Kirara was nestled on the couch asleep. I should really think about getting a roomie. It's kind of lonely without Souta around. She thought to herself as she headed upstairs to the shower.

After leaving work, she decided that she would do her own research on the strange markings since no one was talking to her about it. She had every right to know what was going on; this was her case after all.

Crawling out of the shower, she put on some comfortable clothes and headed downstairs to her Jiichan's room. Turning on the light she pulled out the other copy of the photographs of the victim's body. Kaede didn't know she had it and she wasn't about to say anything either. It's not like she was stealing evidence, it was already on her camera.

“Sheesh, with these markings you think they were trying to do a blood ritual.” She said out loud to herself. She already knew that she needed to look in the resurrection books from what Inu Yasha said over the phone with Kaede. But the question remained, what were they resurrecting? And who were they? This was going to be a bit more difficult then she thought.

Several hours later, Kagome was surrounded by open books and frustrated to no end. There was nothing in any of the books.

Nothing.

Giving into her frustration, she stamped her foot and surprisingly, her foot went through the floor.

“Oh!” she gave a cry as she pulled her foot out of the hole. “Either we have termites bad or there's something down there.” She rushed into the kitchen and grabbed a flashlight from the drawer. Silently praying the batteries worked, she switched it on.

“And Kami said, let there be light!” she gave a little victory dance as she headed back to the room. Kirara followed after her. She was curious as to why her mistress was on her hands and knees on the floor. But Kagome didn't notice the neko looking at her. She was trying to figure out how to make the hole large enough to see.

“I do not want to put my hand down there.” She grumbled to herself. Putting the flashlight down, she grabbed the edges and pulled. After much grunting and sweating, memo to self, shower again! She had made the hold large enough to see in. “What in the world…” She pulled out several dusty books. These must be centuries old. The lighting wasn't the best in the room, so she headed into the kitchen. Kagome grabbed her reading glasses, the strain on your eyes with these old texts is ridiculous, and a hot cup of tea before opening one of the volumes.

What met her eyes was something beyond belief.
Before Kagome sat a story of the only youkai turned vampire, or an Immortal Vampire. Her family had been the ones who sealed the youkai away and kept the monster in a hidden place where no one could find. She found her eyes glued to the pages as she read recounts of the destruction the immortal vampire had rained down upon the earth.

“Someone wasn't happy with the change.” She mumbled to herself as Kirara joined her on the table. She was answered with a `meow' as Kirara made herself comfortable on one book in particular. This one had escaped Kagome's notice. That in itself was odd because it was huge. How in the world did I get that out from under the floor? The hole wasn't even that big. Pondering a little on how the book came to be on her kitchen table she opened it.

“Dear Kami.” She whispered. Inside the book were detailed maps of where the sealed vampire laid. The language she wished to decipher was also before her. It was an ancient language meant to raise the dead and put them under your control. Kirara gave another meow before batting her paw at the map. “Kirara, don't. I don't want these to fall apart.” Wait a minute. That's the location of the shrine. Indeed, the shrine was only a matter of miles from where the supposed burial was.

Lightening struck from outside causing both occupants in the kitchen to shriek. Kagome put her hand to her heart as she steadied herself. The lights had blown out in the house and she shuffled around the kitchen to find some candles. After lighting a couple she went about cleaning up the books. As she was closing the final book, something caught her eye. It was a copy of a portrait. The page was so faded it was hard to make out.

“Probably wasn't much to look at anyway, huh Kirara?” Kagome scratched the neko behind the ears as she headed upstairs to go to bed.

She dreamed of golden eyes and hair like moonbeams.
