Sesshomaru's feet made no noise as he padded down the hallway. Once he stopped outside a door he softly sniffed the air, confirming that not only was his father in the study but the vampiress as well.

He slipped into the room, never once disturbing the silence that permeated the room.

“How is Kagome?” Sugumi asked his eldest, his amber eyes not moving from the seated vampiress before him. Sesshomaru watched his father a moment before sitting next to Raven.

“She is asleep. She needs to rest after this entire ordeal.” He answered. Raven looked away from Sugumi and to the Immortal Vampire next to her.

“It is only beginning.” Raven murmured as her dark eyes scanned the room. “Naraku is still out there somewhere and there is the issue with you.”

“Explain yourself.” Sesshomaru demanded as Raven smirked.

“You have been sealed for several centuries, my Lord. While vampire society will accept you no questions asked, you still have to deal with youkai and ningen society.” She twirled a dark lock around her fingers.

“If they value their lives they will leave well enough alone.” Sesshomaru snorted. Sugumi sighed.

“Times have changed, my son. Youkai society more or less already knows of your…curse. But humans are still leery when it comes to youkai.”

“In other words, you are just a myth.” Raven said to him. “But there is the possibility that you can reject the dark side that makes you a vampire.” Sugumi stiffened in his seat before narrowing his eyes on the female before him.

“Speak woman.” He demanded of her. She rolled her dark eyes at him before crossing her arms across her chest.

“You know if you two keep commanding me I am just going to leave.” She snuck her nose up.

“It is daylight.” Sesshomaru said off handly.

“Yeah, well if it gets me away from you two I will take a chance.” She grumbled. Sesshomaru arched a brow at her and she sighed. “Fine!”

“Thank you.” Sugumi said as he leaned back in his chair.

“There has been talk amongst the Elders concerning the older vampires. You may not know this but when a vampire reaches a certain age and strength, they become…well…bored.”

“Bored? My dear, everyone gets bored when they live long enough.” Sugumi said as he shook his head. Raven raised a brow at him.

“I know that. But with vampires it is different from youkai. When we are first changed we enjoy food, wine, whatever. Youkai can still do that several centuries later. But for vampires we get bored with it. Food doesn't taste as good and we really never needed it to begin with. Wine looses its lusterous taste and sex becomes boring and burdensome.”

“Mating becomes burdensome?” Sugumi asked in disbelief. Raven rolled her eyes.

“Of course a youkai would say that, when youkai mate its something so much more soul binding than with vampires. The only climatic point for a vampire is if we draw blood from our partner the moment of release. The blood is charged with life and feelings, something we loose touch with over the years.”

“What does this all have to do with not being a vampire?” Sesshomaru asked her.

“Simple. The Elders believe that if the vampire is strong enough, a powerful youkai mating mark can override the dark blood, sealing it away. You of course know that when a youkai mates, the two lives are intertwined. Thus, the vampire still retains the immortality but takes on minor youkai traits.” Raven leaned back in her chair.

“Thus ridding the vampire of everything that makes it a vampire.” Sugumi said. Raven nodded.

“Of course this is only a theory. No one has tried it.”

“That is because vampire and youkai don't get along.” Sesshomaru said. Raven sighed and nodded. Sesshomaru looked away while Sugumi and Raven discussed the possibilities of mating.

There was not a single female youkai out there that met his standards. Nor was there one strong enough to rid him of his curse.

His golden eyes drifted to a wall as he stared hard at it, as if willing it to temporarily disappear and reveal the sleeping woman on his bed.

Inu youkai mated for life. His honor would not allow him to stray from his mate. And more than anything, his inner beast wanted the miko in the other room. He knew nothing about her accept her name and that she was a miko.

For several centuries he was plagued with visions of his tenshi. He knew that someday if he was ever freed he would seek her. At first he had hoped that she was either youkai or vampire. But with the discovery of her being a ningen miko he found himself not caring.

Lord Sesshomaru wanted the human miko Kagome as his life mate.

The only problem was he couldn't mark her. Too many things could go wrong. His inner beast could suddenly be overthrown by the blood beast, changing Kagome into a vampire. And while that would serve him just as well. He wouldn't do that to her. He would rather see her with another male before changing Kagome into a vampire.

Then again, the thought of her with another male sent him into such a fury he didn't think he could let her go.

He had to be ridden of this damn curse.

Sugumi watched the emotions play across his son's golden eyes. He knew somewhere deep down, that Sesshomaru would not accept a mating mark from just any female youkai.

His son had fallen hard for the miko, Kagome.

“He won't do it.” Raven whispered as she glanced at the silent Western Lord from the corner of her eye. Sugumi nodded to her. Raven scratched her nose in thought before sitting up.

“What?” Sugumi asked her, finding her little antics amusing.

“I could always go speak with the Elders again. Perhaps they know something of mikos. It was them who knew how to release the sealing spells after all.” She said thoughtfully.

“The sealing spells were placed by mikos and houshis; of course holy ki would lift them.” Sesshomaru ground out as he looked at the vampiress. She merely snorted at him.

“That doesn't mean we can leave them out. Do you want to be rid of your curse?” she demanded him.

“Do you?” he snapped back at her. Raven grew quiet as she looked away from him. “Tell us, Raven. Who are you? How did you become what you are today?” Sesshomaru's golden eyes became hard and cold as he stared at the vampiress. She fidgeted beneath that gaze, refusing to meet his eyes.

“My birth name was Raiden Vastings.” She whispered quietly. “I was born in Romania, 1679. My master is Xerxes. I do not remember my family.”

“Too long ago?” Sugumi asked her. Raven sighed deeply.

“No. Xerxes slaughtered my family when I was but eight years old. He took me away with him afterwards.” Sugumi choked a little.

“Xerxes is known through the vampire society for his passion for young flesh.” Sesshomaru said off handly.

“Yes.” Raven said. “He would kidnap young children, both male and female for his sick pleasure. Sometimes he would sell them off to other vampires who still had a taste for the pleasures of flesh or perhaps, for fodder.”

“For fodder?” Sugumi asked.

“Food.” Raven answered. “Once he grew tired of them or they became too old, he would kill them.”

“And you?” Sesshomaru asked her, now looking at the back of the vampiress. He watched as her shoulders cringed.

“I was his favorite. He didn't sell me off to the others, though I knew he had offers. No, instead, when I turned sixteen he turned me. Forced me into what I am now. I swore upon those damn blood stained sheets that one day I would kill him. I would avenge my family and every child he had hurt.”

“You were so young.” Sugumi looked at the vampiress, suddenly seeing the young qualities about her. She shrugged.

“It was a long time ago. I don't think on it much anymore. The Elders keep me away from him these last centuries on random assignments.”

“That doesn't mean he won't come for you.” Sesshomaru watched as she turned to face him.

“Oh, I know he is looking for me. I can feel it in the bond we share. It has been too long since he exchanged blood with me so the bond is weak.” Raven stood from her place before bowing to the two males.

“Where are you going?” Sugumi asked. Raven looked up and frowned.

“The moment the sun sets I will seek out the Elders. I will return with what news I have. Hopefully, I can dig up some stuff on Naraku. He is not well liked in vampire society.” With that she silently left the room leaving the two males alone.

“What will you do now, Sesshomaru?” Sugumi asked his son. Sesshomaru leaned back in his chair and contemplated.

“I suppose I need to become reacquainted with this new time.” He said off handly. “But the miko is not to leave here.” Sugumi chuckled.

“Of course not, though you will be the one to tell her that. Kagome has a wicked temper.”

“Just so long as you handle InuYasha.” Sesshomaru stood. Sugumi raised a brow.

“You know your brother is only looking out for her best interests. They use to be partners.” Sesshomaru stopped at the door and looked back at his father. His eyes clearly said it all.

The miko belonged to him.
