Chapter 8: So It Begins
“Talking”
`Thinking'
*Mind links*
Kagome awoke slowly. The first thought in her mind was when in the world did she buy silk sheets? Not that she was complaining mind you, there was just this nagging thought in the back of her head that was telling her she needed to wake up. Not to mention there was this insanely heavy weight against her back. She shifted ever so slightly and brought her hand out from the bundle of blankets she was in. The chilled air almost had her burrowing back under the covers but her curiosity got the best of her.
She encountered the softest fur she had ever felt. Her eyebrows furrowed in thought before curiosity reared its head again and she struggled against the covers to sit up. Her sapphire eyes blinked against the darkness of the room, waiting patiently for her eyes to adjust before the slid the large bump on the bed. She fumbled in the dark for a moment before she felt a lamp. Groping around a little more she found the switch and light flooded the room.
“Agh!” she squealed as she tumbled backwards and fell of the bed. Her sapphire eyes blinked owlishly at the pair of blue eyes that stared at her from over the bed.
`Kaelas…dear Kami it wasn't a dream!' she thought heatedly to herself. Her eyes took in the spacious room she was in. It had a dark sensual feel to it with dark creamy walls and beautiful paintings of lush woods. A pair of French doors led to a balcony made in what looked like white marble. The carpet was lush and dark colored as well. The bed she had just fallen out of was large as well with black silk sheets and a black down comforter now entwined with her legs.
She growled in irritation as she tried to untangle herself only to fall right back to the floor. Pale blue eyes watched her in amusement and Kagome huffed to herself.
“I bet you are finding this real funny right now, aren't you?” she asked the wolf. Kaelas snorted.
*I would never think that of the hand that feeds me.* he replied in her mind causing the young miko to squeal again. *Forgive me. I did not tell you sooner of what I am. Because I am a Bonder I am capable of establishing mind links with certain beings. Because of your miko abilities I am capable of speaking to you as I would with vampires and other youkai.* Kagome blinked at him again before scowling.
“Could my life get anymore complicated?” she asked herself more so than the wolf before her. Kaelas cocked his head at her question, his pale blue eyes shining with amusement.
“Would you like an answer to that?” a dark silky voice asked her. Kagome squealed again as she tried to jump away, only for that damn cursed blanket to make her go crashing down. A pair of strong arms caught her before she met the unforgiving ground. She swallowed, hard. Those arms were the reason she thought she had been dreaming. There was no way the male from her dreams was breathing and alive all because she had released him.
Sesshomaru had been outside her door the moment her breathing began to pick up signaling she was awakening. He crept in silently, watching in open amusement at her confrontation with the Bonder. He found her antics endearing, almost as much as he loved her fiery personality. He stiffened then.
Love.
It was impossible for him to even think of that. Could he love this fiery miko sprawled so helpless upon his bedroom floor? He listened to her question in more amusement before gracing her with an answer. He reacted before he could even think as she went to crash back into the floor.
Now that he held her small form in his arms the answer was obvious.
Yes, he could easily love this little woman. He could easily spend the rest of his eternal life with her beside his side. A life filled with laughter and smiles.
If only he wasn't what he was.
Sapphire eyes met amused golden ones. They were so vastly different from the cold golden eyes that studied her from the portrait she had seen in the hall. The man before her was vastly different from what all claimed.
Why?
“Where am I?” Kagome asked him, not wanting an answer to her unasked questions. Sesshomaru seem to hear them anyway.
“In my bedroom.” `Where you belong' he added mentally. Kagome felt her cheeks heat up in embarrassment. She had been asleep in his bed.
*Could be worse, you could have woke up with him in it too.* Kaelas added to her. Kagome gave a mental snort.
*You are not helping any.* she told him. Kaelas leapt off the bed and padded his way out of the bedroom leaving Kagome tangled in covers and in the arms of a vampire demon lord.
“Are you hungry?” Sesshomaru broke the uneasy silence that had settled between the two of them. He lifted her up and out of the blankets before sitting her back on her feet. Her sapphire gaze studied him a moment before her stomach rumbled through the room. Her cheeks tinted a lush pink as she looked up at him through her bangs.
He almost groaned at the sight.
“I will take that as a yes.” Sesshomaru said as he tugged her forward and led her down the halls. Kagome looked around her as he led her around turns and finally down the grand staircase she vaguely remembered. Her eyes sought out a window noticing the moon high in the sky. She frowned; time was muddled for her right now…she was confused. She didn't know how long she had been sleeping so she decided to ask.
“You slept all day, wench.” Inu Yasha said as they entered the kitchen. Sesshomaru growled at his younger sibling before ignoring him as he led the young miko to the island counter.
“All day?” Kagome bristled as her eyes narrowed. “Where's Sango?”
“I am right here, Kagome.” Sango rubbed her eyes as she stumbled into the kitchen before plopping into a bar stool next to Kagome.
“What about work?” Kagome asked Inu Yasha. The inu hanyou looked sheepish for a moment as he avoided her gaze.
“You will not be returning.” Sesshomaru's voice rang out in the kitchen. Her sapphire eyes snapped to his stationary form in the kitchen. She bristled at his arrogant demeanor.
“What is that suppose to mean? I have to go to work! I've got bills to pay!” she snapped at him. He merely shrugged at her.
“Then the bills will be taken care of. You are not going anywhere where I cannot follow.” He glared at her but she remained unfazed.
“And what makes you think I would let you follow me in the first place?!” Kagome demanded, her sapphire eyes darkening with her anger. Sango and Inu Yasha watched the argument like it was a ping pong tournament.
Sesshomaru stalked forward and towered over Kagome. She scowled at him, not the least bit intimidated by the demon lord. His golden eyes narrowed as he took in her sweet Sakura scent laced heavily with agitation and anger. His eyes flashed crimson at her.
“Because…” his voice was dark and heavy as it ran over her. “For as long as that hanyou Naraku still walks you will not leave my sight.” He stood up again, assuming the conversation was over. But he would learn things very quickly, Kagome Higurashi never backed down from a fight.
“No.” she said as she stood up as well. Her eyes were level with his sternum and she scowled at the thought before tilting her head back and meeting those unforgiving golden eyes.
“No?” his voice was like thunder now. She would step down, damn it, if she knew what was good for her she would step down. Even now his inner beast was raging with him to teach her who was dominant, to take her in ways she could never imagine. To see her like this, so small compared to him, standing up to him made him desire her more than anything.
“You cannot control me.” Kagome said strongly. She could feel his dark power swirling around her, trying to suffocate and subdue her. But Raven had taught her to let it flow and while it still felt heavy to her, she was adapting to it better. “You do not own me.”
Sesshomaru's nostrils flared in response to her declaration. He was convinced she did not know what she was doing to him. The urge to throw her over his shoulder and take her upstairs to ravage her was becoming too strong. He leaned down to her, his golden eyes leveled with her sapphire gaze before he allowed his lips to ever so slightly brush her ear. He felt her stiffen in response and just the tiniest bit of arousal laced her scent. He almost groaned.
Kagome cursed herself for her reaction to him. Damn, it wasn't far! He knew how her body would react to him. He was trying to get her to submit and she refused. Just the feel of his breath on her heated skin made her knees weak. It made all those intense dreams come rushing to the front of her mind, her inner self just begging for him to push himself against her. She wanted to see if that body of his was just as hard and taunt as it looked.
“You may think I don't own you.” His voice was husky as his breath danced across her cheek causing her to tremble. “But you belong to this Sesshomaru.” With that said he pulled back from her, gave her a devilish smirk and left the kitchen.
She stood there, staring blankly at the spot he just vacated before she growled in anger and damn it, frustration. Oh! He knew how to make her so mad! She stomped her foot at him before huffing angrily. She turned around to leave and give him a piece of her mind when she noticed Sango and Inu Yasha still seated in the kitchen. She blushed furiously at the shocked gaping expressions they wore.
“Oh…how I loath him.” She whispered furiously as she looked at her friends. Inu Yasha coughed discreetly behind his hand before rubbing the back of his head.
“Hungry?” he asked her. Kagome sighed and sat down. She had suddenly lost her appetite but she knew she needed to eat.
Besides, it wasn't food she was suddenly craving. Damn that male for being so desirable!
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ *~*~*~*~*
Sesshomaru stood outside the kitchen long enough to hear her growl of frustration before heading down the hall to his study with a sexy smirk on his face. It took a lot of self restraint not to go back in there and ravage her little body till she could no longer move. He did not think such a small human mortal woman could affect him so. Kagome was becoming a weakness…a weakness he would enjoy.
But before he could completely claim his little spitfire, he would have to destroy Naraku and find a way to return to his former self.
Naraku could be easily taken care of. He just needed to lure him out of hiding and introduce him to his poison claws…or whip…or maybe he could use Tokijin, the possibilities were endless. Of course his death would be painful, not only had he thought to control him, Lord Sesshomaru of the Western Lands and most powerful youkai vampire to exist, `the only' he added silently, but he had tried to harm his miko.
His.
She defiantly belonged to him whether she liked it or not. And he planned on making her like it, to crave it, to beg for him to take her. It would be a sweet moment indeed.
But how did it come to this, this craving of a mortal woman? This need to dominate her in only the most primal of ways? He wanted to make her his in every aspect possible, to fill her with himself so she knew not where he ended and she began.
Not to mention the blasted hard on he had in his sealed state was still present. He growled at the humiliating sight he was. Thank kami his pants were loose, making his bulge only evident if looked at.
He came to the study, the door opening easily at his touch as he headed to the desk. He sat stiffly behind it as he stared at the laptop. His father had gone over it briefly and what it entailed. He needed to catch up on the times, as a youkai it would be simple to adjust but he still needed to know what he was up against.
After a few hours of browsing the `internet' he heard the door to the study open. Sesshomaru had smelled his younger half brother the moment he turned down the hall. He didn't look up, his ears twitched slightly at the sound on Inu Yasha sitting down before the desk. He gave a small sigh at the fact that the hanyou was not going to leave him alone. He closed out the window before leaning back and giving his attention to his brother.
“What do you want, hanyou?” he asked him. Inu Yasha bared his teeth at his brother before straightening himself back up.
“Stay away from Kagome.” He growled. Sesshomaru raised a brow.
“Do you want her for yourself, little brother?” Sesshomaru sneered. Inu Yasha blushed and stammered.
“Of course not! I don't want you to hurt her, you bastard!”
“What makes you think I would want to hurt her, Inu Yasha?”
“Because you're a sadistic bastard, that's what!” Sesshomaru's golden gaze narrowed. It wasn't the first time his brother had called him that. But for some reason it hurt him now. With everything he had become he was sadistic and much more. Could he ever hope to deserve something as pure as Kagome? Could he chance it if he never found a way to return to his former self?
“A sadistic bastard I may be, brother, but I would never hurt Kagome.” There, he said it. The confession was out on the table, now if Inu Yasha would listen. The hanyou snorted.
“Fine. But I will be there to pick up the pieces when you screw up.” Inu Yasha stood up, ignoring his older brother's growl of outrage before leaving the study.
Sesshomaru watched him go, his claws tearing gauges in the wooded desk. How dare that half breed think so low of him? He gave a heavy sigh as he pulled his claws from the wood, frowning at the destruction of the cider wood desk. Of course his younger brother would think so low of him, he had never treated him the best in the past. But things had changed, he had changed. And while he never would be affectionate to Inu Yasha, he still craved that family connection. Gaining the vampire blood had strengthened his need for his family. Vampires were close to their clans, needing that contact with familiar blood. Inu Yasha's refusal to trust him cut him deep.
Would they ever resolve their differences?
Probably not.
Sesshomaru wasn't the type to put his emotions or feelings out to others. He sure as hell wasn't about to start now. But the thought of a pair of sapphire eyes gave him pause. He turned off the laptop before walking to a window and staring at the dark sky. His little spitfire drew out very human emotions in him. She made him want to laugh at her antics and pathetic growls. She made him want to slaughter any male who looked at her. She made him feel more alive than he had ever been since he became what he was now.
Was there hope for him? Kami, he hoped so.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* ~*~*~*~*~
Raven moved quietly through the night. She was heading to the Council of Elders to speak to them. Hopefully, they would have the answers she sought for Sesshomaru and she was due for a report on Naraku.
As she slipped through the shadows she became aware of a constant presence behind her. More than once she turned to confront the entity only to find the way empty. Her senses were on high alert, some primal part of her telling her to flee. But Raven was no fool, whatever was trailing her was a hunter, running would only set it off. She picked up speed to reach the mansion that housed the Council and one of the oldest vampire clans, Dragos.
The four story dark mansion loomed before her. It had taken some heavy magic to reach the base but she had pulled it off. She was drained but nothing some rest could take care of. She brushed her hand across her pants, removing any dirt that had appeared in her run here. Her top was a simple lavender button up with long sleeves. Her dark tresses were down and swayed as she walked through the iron gates and to the mansion.
The doors opened and Raven gave a small smile the tall lush female at the entrance.
“Raven…you have returned.” The vampiress had long silky blond hair and intense green eyes. Raven gave a sharp nod.
“I need to speak to the Elders, Vantila.” Raven replied. Vantila nodded her head and opened the door wider to allow the other vampiress through. Her red velvet gown brushed across the floor as she shut the door behind. Raven took another deep breath as she glanced around the candle lit foyer. A pale hand came to rest of her shoulder as Vantila leaned over her. The hand tangled itself in Raven's hair as she pulled it to her perfect features and inhaled deeply.
“How I have missed you, Raven.” Vantila purred in excitement. Raven sighed and pulled away from the blond vampiress.
“I do not have time for your games, Vantila. The Elders, now.” Raven's voice turned silky with warning and the other vampiress nodded in understanding. For centuries now she had been trying to get the elusive dark vampiress to grace her bed. But Vantila wasn't about to give up, she would get Raven eventually.
“I will inform them of your presence.” The blond said before leaving Raven alone. Raven growled in irritation as she ran a hand through her hair. She hoped Vantila had gotten over her fascination of herself, but obviously not.
“Raven! You have returned!” a red head vampiress bounded into the room, her blue silky gown swirling about her as she pulled the dark vampiress into an embrace. Raven sighed in irritation, now she knew why she never came back anymore.
“Nicolae.” Raven said. Nicolae pulled back and grinned down at the small dark vampiress. Nicolae was a mate to one of the Elders, Mihail. She had always been sort of a mother figure to Raven over the centuries.
“You never come home anymore, my little dark angel.” Nicolae's light brown eyes were sorrowful. Raven felt horrible.
“I know.” She whispered. “But you know I had to do this assignment for the Elders and to get away…” `From him.' Nicolae understand the unspoken part, her dislike for Xerxes well known. She was about to say something more when Vantila reappeared.
“They will see you now, Raven.” Vantila whispered. Raven nodded as both vampiress wished her well.
“Come see me before you leave, Raven.” Nicolae's voice came to her as she headed to the dark double doors. She waved her hand at Nicolae before nodding to the two guards at the doors. Who they were? She had no idea. But from the smell of them they were freshly turned vampire males.
The chamber was immense and barely lit. The candles made the room glow eerily as Raven stepped in. The Elders were a trio of ancient vampires. They were real vampires, born that way. They never knew what it was like to enjoy the sun beating down upon your skin. Then again, Raven really didn't even remember.
The first Elder was Mihail, Nicolae's mate. He was a tall handsome male with long blonde hair and piercing blue eyes. He gave her a kind smile upon her entrance. He was dressed in the customary black of the vampires.
The second Elder was Aron, he had no mate but his eye had been on Moise, a new vampiress with a shy personality. His hair was short and a dark brown. His eyes were a cool grey color that reminded Raven of the storms she had back at home. He wasn't a ruthless ruler nor was he overly kind. He too had a quiet personality that would suit Moise very well. If only he had the balls to confront her.
Aron's lips barely twitched. A sign he knew what she was thinking. Raven had trained with Aron on occasion and had become some what close to the reclusive Elder.
Raven felt the hungry stare of the third and final Elder upon her. Her dark eyes sought out a pair of sky blue eyes. Stefan was a powerful dark vampire. His hair was black and wavy as it brushed his shoulders. He filled out his black clothes like a seasoned warrior. And damn, was he one. He was the best warrior amongst the vampires.
“Raven de Aculs.” She grimaced at her surname but met Mihail's stare.
“My Lords.” She gave a small bow to them before standing again. “I have come to report that the half vampire Naraku did not succeed in releasing the vampire demon lord, Sesshomaru.” The Elders nodded in acceptance but Raven pushed on. “Instead he was released by a human miko.”
“A miko?” Aron repeated.
“A priestess, my lord.” Raven said. “I was able to wound Naraku but he escaped me and Lord Sesshomaru.”
“You are growing slack, Raven.” Mihail's blue eyes twinkled at her. Raven blushed at him.
“Indeed, your favorite needs to train.” Stefan's rich voice caused her to snap back to reality. She didn't dare scowl at him, no matter how tempting it was.
“He has been able to recruit vampires and lower level youkai.” She told them.
“We thank you for your report, Raven.” Mihail said. When the dark vampiress made no move to leave he raised a pale brow. “You wish to say more?”
“Yes.” Raven said. “I seek information on the behalf of Lord Sesshomaru.”
“Continue.” Aron said when she seemed to hesitate.
“He wishes to return to his former self.” The chamber became silent.
“He no longer wants to be vampire?” Aron asked. Raven forced herself to remained stoic.
“He never wished to be so in the first place my lord.” She answered
“Raven.” Mihail stepped to the vampiress he looked at as his daughter. “You know there is no way to undo a transformation.” He watched her proud head drop.
“I know.” Her sensual voice lost his luster. “But I promised I would find a way. I believe he wishes to make a life with the priestess. He does not want to taint her pure soul.” A snort caused her to look up.
“It's so nice to know you look upon your own kind so kindly.” Stefan said to her, his pale blue eyes never leaving her form. Raven refused to answer him. Mihail frowned at his companion. They all knew Raven's hatred of being what she was. Mihail blamed it on her Master, Xerxes, if only she hadn't been turned by that bastard she would have been more accepting. There had been a many fight between himself and Xerxes over the female before him. He wished Xerxes to turn over rights of Raven to him. But in all their ways, he had ever right to refuse even if he was an Elder.
He and Nicolae had for so long wished to accept Raven as one of their own. They had never been able to have children of their own and had taken Raven under their wing when she had still been so young in vampire terms. Xerxes treated her horribly and only used her for his own sick pleasures. When the young vampiress was able to fight back, she left her Master, avoiding him at all costs.
Of course, the only other way Raven could be free was if she took a mate. While there were a many who wished for the vampiress she gave them no pause. One such suitor was glaring holes into the back of his head. Mihail pulled his adopted daughter into an embrace and placed his chin upon her head. She was so small.
Stefan would make her a wonderful mate. If was powerful enough to take down Xerxes and it would mean Raven would be kept near. If only the Elder could get his act straight and start to woo the vampiress, not piss her off. But he suppose Stefan liked to see Raven fired up, it did bring a wonderful glow to her dark eyes.
Stefan watched Mihail embrace Raven. He knew what the male was thinking and he wished for nothing more than to string Xerxes up and leave him for the sun. The male was stubborn and greedily held to anything he wanted. And he refused to give up Raven. He sighed, knowing what he was about to do would shock the other two males, but hopefully give him favor in that pair of dark eyes.
“I will take you to the alcoves, Raven.” Stefan's voice was suddenly next to her causing her to look up at him. “You can go through the ancient texts at your leisure. You may be able to find something there.” Raven's dark eyes shone brightly. Her delicate face broke out into a bright smile he had never seen before on the woman.
“Thank you, Stefan.” He didn't even notice she hadn't addressed him properly, too stunned at her changed demeanor.
“Well, come on then.” He said gruffly. “We don't have all night to be socializing.” Raven snorted but followed none the less.
