Now

Kagome woke up feeling dizzy. She had cried last night and the remaining headache didn’t really go away. She had class in an hour and needed a shower, but didn’t think she’d have time. She changed into a pair of jeans and one of Inuyasha’s baggy shirts and went into the living room. Inuyasha sat there with a cup of coffee, watching cartoons.

Kagome sat next to him and took a sip of his coffee. “Thanks.” She said.

“Morning.” He responded.

“Anything good on?” She asked.

“Duck Dodgers.”

“Cool.”

“Don’t you have class?”

“Yep.” Kagome looked at the clock and stood up. “I’ll see you later.”

“Want me to drive you?” Inuyasha turned off the TV and stood up next to Kagome.

“Nah. It’s all set.” She hugged him. “Thanks.”

“For what?”

“I’ll see you later.” She smiled, not caring that she ignored him. “Don’t you have class today?”

“At one.”

“Cool.” She worried her bottom lip before saying. “Let’s get something for lunch.”

“Sure.” He smiled. “Eleven good?”

“Perfect.”

**

Kagome 217;s class went by quickly. It was ten thirty when she left and she realized she had no idea where Inuyasha was meeting her for lunch. She took out her cell phone and saw that she had three text messages.

·
Kags. Where we goin 4 lunch –

·
U cant still b in class –

·
Kags meet me at BFTP –

Kagome smiled at the text messages and sent one back on her way to Blast From the Past. It was a fun restaurant with fifties style seating and decorations. They even served traditional chocolate malts. Kagome practically ran home to jump in her car. She was going to be late for lunch.

·
Inu b there in 15 or 20

She sent the text and threw the phone on to the passengers seat. She sped to the restaurant and arrived in a record sixteen minutes. She got out and locked the doors.

“And here I’d thought you’d forgotten me.” Inuyasha said pulling her in for a hug.

“Never. Didn’t you get my text?”

“Yeah, like a minute ago.” He said.

“Well I definitely sent it like fifteen ago.” Kagome laughed.

The hostess smiled. “Two for lunch today?”

“Yes.” Inuyasha smiled and read her nametag. “Lisa.”

“Right this way.” The girl smiled and sat them at a booth in the corner.

“May I get you anything to drink to start?” She asked.

“I’ll just have a glass of water.” Kagome said.

“I’ll have a chocolate malt.” Inuyasha looked at Kagome curiously. “Are you sure you don’t want a malt or anything?” He asked once the girl walked away. “It’s on me.”

“I know.” She smiled.

They began looking at the menus and Inuyasha dropped the subject of her beverage choice. For a minute.

“It’s just that usually you like the malts.”

“I know what I usually like Inuyasha.” Kagome said a little more angrily than she meant to. “I just don’t feel like it right now.”

“What may I get for you today?” The waitress came back.

Inuyasha smiled. “Ladies first.”

“Go ahead, I’m still thinking.”

“Okay. I’ll have the Curly Cheese Fries appetizer, and the Bacon Cheeseburger.”

“Regular Fries, Curly Fries, or Mashed potatoes with your Burger?” She asked.

“Mashed Potatoes sounds great.”

“Gravy?”

“Sure.”

“And for you miss?”

“I’ll have the garden salad.” Kagome said, closing her menu.

“Dressing?”

“No thanks.”

“Breadsticks?”

Kagome debated saying ‘no’ but saw the look Inuyasha gave her. “Sure.”

“Okay. Thank you.” She took the menus and went back to the kitchen.

“Why aren’t you eating?” Inuyasha asked.

“I’ll eat it.” She said.

“Yeah, but usually you at least get the grilled cheese.”

“I’m just not as hungry as I thought I would be at lunch.” Kagome said airily.

“It’s not because of that dick-head is it?”

“Drop it Yash.”

Inuyasha opened his mouth to say something else but Kagome looked at him, almost pleadingly. “Fine.”

Lunch wasn’t as fun as it normally would have been for the two best friends. Kagome felt bad now that she hadn’t at least ordered a normal meal. Inuyasha kept looking up at her, as though he wanted to say more.

Inuyasha paid for the meal, even though Kagome fussed about it, and they left.

“You’re going to be late for class.” She said, straightening his shirt collar.

“I don’t care.” He said. “Nice shirt by the way.” He smiled, noticing it was his shirt.

“Thanks. I thought so.” She smiled and went toward her car. “Go to class.” She said.

“I’d rather hang out with you.” He almost whispered.

“I won’t be responsible for you getting academic probation.” She smiled.

“Fine, fine.” He went to give her a good-bye hug. “I’ll come by later tonight.”

“Umm,” Kagome looked away. “I won’t be there.” She said.

“Why?” But he knew.

“Kouga invited me over.” She mumbled.

“Kagome, why do you stay with him?” She looked into his eyes. They weren’t the usual bright eyes she had come to love. They were troubled and sad.

“He’s not so bad.” She hugged Inuyasha and unlocked her car door. “I’ll call you later.”

“Be careful Kags.”

“Whatever.” She smiled. “Bye.”

“Bye.” He waved and watched her pull out of the parking lot. He looked at his watch, it was twelve forty five. “Shit.”
