Kagome sighed as she got out of her car. She didn’t know why she bothered to stay with Kouga. She had been single before, and it didn’t kill her. Kagome straightened her dress. It was navy blue and low cut to show a lot of cleavage. It also had a slit in the side up to the middle of her thigh. Inuyasha had once said it made her look ‘damn sexy’.

‘UGH! Stop thinking about him!’ She berated herself. ‘He’s your best friend; he has to say stuff like that’. She knocked on Kouga’s door and waited. And waited. Finally he came down, smelling like an entire bottle of ‘ax’. She tried not to make a face at the overwhelming smell.

“Hey Kouga.” She said.

“Hello Kagome.” He said, kissing her cheek and allowing her in.

“How are you?”

“I’m doing good.” He said, closing the door. “How are you?”

“Fine.” She lied. She actually felt horrible. She wanted to go home.

“Marvelous.” He responded. ‘Inuyasha would have known I was lying’. She thought bitterly.

Kagome wandered into his living room with him. “So, what’s the plan?” She asked.

Kagome wanted to leave. It was utterly boring. He took her to the new club ‘FireWater.’ It wasn’t that the club wasn’t nice. It was. And they played pretty good music. It was just that, Kouga was boring. If he wasn’t downing another shot, he was pulling Kagome onto the dance floor and trying to grind with her. Kagome wasn’t very good at the sultry dances.

She was now sitting at the bar, having a rum and coke. She sipped it and waited for Kouga to come back from the bathroom. She sighed and twirled her mixing straw around her cup.

“Troubles in paradise Ms. Higarashi?” The bartender asked. He recognized her from work. She smiled.

“Nonsense.”

“Where’s Inuyasha tonight? Aren’t you two attached at the hip?” He smiled, pouring a shot for a customer.

“Ha ha. He’s probably out with someone.” Kagome looked over to the door. “In fact.” She said pointing. “Here he comes.” The girl on his arm didn’t look familiar.

“Kagome!” he said. “Fancy meeting you here.” She was suspicious of his tone.

“Hey Yash.” She said, drinking some more of her beverage.

“This is Rin. My niece.” Kagome looked at her and realized it was indeed Rin.

“Oh my god!” She hugged the girl. “How are you?”

“Fine.” She shouted over the music. “Daddy let me come.” She smiled. “He said he didn’t want me to go, but then Inuyasha offered to escort me.” She laughed.

“How is Sess?” Kagome asked.

“He’s doing good.” She smiled.

“How’s school?”

“Ugh! So I love living abroad and all, but sometimes I just want to go home.” She rolled her eyes. “I’m only back for a little bit.” She shrugged. “I know that Daddy just wants me to have a good education, but going to boarding school sucks.”

“I can imagine. I lived in dorms for three years.” Kagome sympathized.

“Hey Yash.” The bartender said. “What can I get ya?”

“Oh, just a water tonight.” The bartender smiled and poured a glass of water for Yash.

“And the young lady?”

“Nuh, uh. She’s a minor.” Inuyasha sniggered.

“Shut up!” Rin complained, “Like the ‘loser’ stamp doesn’t scream that already.” She rolled her eyes.

“Come on Kags, let’s dance.” He said.

“I really shouldn’t.” Kagome looked toward the bathroom. He had been gone a really long time.

“Kouga.” He growled. “Come on, it won’t kill ya.” He took Kagome by the hand. “Can you handle yourself for a few minutes?” he asked Rin.

“Of course I can.” She shook him off and he led Kagome to the center of the floor. It was a seductive song and she felt awkward.

The only way to dance to this kind of song was to practically have sex on the dance floor. Kagome bit her lip and tried not to think about it too much.

Inuyasha placed his hands on her hips and rocked in beat with the music. Kagome felt herself getting flushed with his movements. Inuyasha sensed her mood change and smirked. He liked having an effect on her. He didn’t like that he could do nothing about it, but the thought still pleased him.

He turned Kagome around and she pushed herself lightly against his groin. She wasn’t sure what she was doing. She was just listening to her body. His hands roamed up and down her sides before resting on her hips once more. He pulled her flush against him and they moved as one. She lifted her hand up and found his ears. She scratched lazily, moving in time with him. He growled with pleasure and turned her around to face him. His eyes flashed crimson and she smirked. She knew that his youkai was being awakened. She wrapped her arms around his neck, scratching his scalp. He leaned down, his forehead pressed against hers. He wanted so badly to kiss her, but that would make things awkward between them. ‘Like this wont’ his mind pointed out.

Kagome looked him in the eyes as the red bled through. She wanted to calm his youkai by kissing him, touching him, giving herself to him. But she also wanted to keep her best friend. A moment of weakness couldn’t ruin nearly ten years of friendship. The song blended into another one and Kagome snapped out of her trance. She pulled away from Inuyasha and smiled.

“I hate this song.” She smiled, having an excuse to leave the dance floor.

Inuyasha knew she was lying, she had the CD. He followed her back to the bar. Did she really not want to be with him? He shook his head. She was just afraid. Like he was.

Kouga had stumbled back from the bathroom sometime during Kagome and Inuyasha’s dancing. But he was too drunk to notice the scent of Inuyasha. Rin had distracted him, knowing that Inuyasha would kill anyone who dared interrupt his dance with Kagome.

Kagome shook her head. “I better get him home.” She said to the others. “I’ll call you tomorrow Yash.”

“Bye Kags.” He said sheepishly.

“Bye Kagome!” Rin said happily.

“Bye Rin.” She hugged her, “I’ll see you later.” She turned to Kouga and helped him to lean on her. “Come on Kouga.”
