Then
Kagome lugged the final box into her new apartment. She smiled at the look of unpacked boxes in her very first apartment. She didn’t have to live on campus any more. Inuyasha came into the room and smiled at her. “This is nice Kags.” He said.
“I love it!” She tore open a box and saw that it was her stuffed animals. She pushed it aside and looked in the second box. Her school books.
“What are you looking for?” Inuyasha asked as she opened the third box.
“This!” She said, standing up with a picture frame in her hand. Inuyasha smiled. Ms. Higarashi had taken it at Sesshomaru’s wedding. It was only two years old. Miroku had a large red mark on his face, Sango was glaring away from him, Sesshomaru and Kagura were smiling at each other, not the camera, and Inuyasha was lifting Kagome over his shoulder and laughing.
Kagome put the picture on a side table that stood beside her couch. She smiled to Inuyasha. “Now it’s home.”
“Kagome!” Sango came in, Miroku behind her.
“Hey Kags.” He said.
“Hey guys. What’s up?”
“Thought you could use a little help unpacking.” Sango smiled.
“Awesome.” Kagome said, looking at the mounds of boxes. “Lets start with the living area.”
“Okay, where’s your box for that?” Sango asked.
Kagome laughed. “Box for it? You’re funny.” Sango looked at her curiously. “I didn’t label them.” She explained. “You’ll just have to dig around for things. Pictures, my bookshelf, that’ll have to be put back together. I think I’ll set up my computer in here. Not sure.” She smiled at the boys. “You two can start putting things together.”
They looked at each other and then looked back at Kagome. “If you want.” She added sadly.
“Of course we will.” Miroku said.
“Hello.” Kikyou came in, “Nice apartment Kags.”
“Thanks Kik.”
“Need help?” She asked.
“Sure. Thanks.”
“Hey Yash.” She kissed him on the cheek.
“Hey Kik.” He smiled.
“Well,” Kagome looked at the boxes. “Come on, we can start unpacking my room.” She opened one of the boxes and found her clothes. Then another and found her knickknacks for her room. She grabbed one of the boxes. “You mind grabbing that one Song?”
“Sure.” Sango followed Kagome into a room around the corner.
Kikyou stayed out in the living room with Miroku and Inuyasha, helping them rebuild Kagome’s bookcase.
“What’s wrong?” Sango asked, unpacking Kagome’s clothes.
Kagome shrugged. “Nothing.” She sighed and looked up at Sango. “Should I go out with Kouga?”
“Kouga?” She asked, pulling a face. “I wouldn’t but I’m not . . .into him. I guess, if you want to. Why? Did he ask?”
“Yeah.” Kagome put down the pants she had been taking out. “It’s just that, I’m sick of not being able to find ‘the perfect guy’ so I should just get over it and go out with someone, right?”
“Well, yeah, I mean, you’re not going to know who is right if you don’t at least try dating someone.” Sango agreed.
“Yeah. So, I’ll say yes.” Kagome smiled and filled her closet. The matter was settled.

“Kags!” Inuyasha ran up to her, but she continued walking. “Kagome!”
“Go away Yash!” She screamed. It was her second night in her new apartment, and she already hated it. It wasn’t that the apartment was horrible, or the location, it was the events that had already happened.
The day Kagome had moved in, Inuyasha had broken up with Kikyou. Kikyou found that this was Kagome’s fault (Somehow unbeknownst to Kagome). Then Inuyasha had proceeded to tell Kikyou she was taking the breakup the wrong way, and to lay off Kagome. Kikyou slapped him, slapped Kagome and ran off.
Kagome tried to get Kikyou to listen to her, and had finally convinced her to come over and talk. Inuyasha got to Kagome’s house and tried to get her to talk to him. She didn’t know why she was mad at him, but she continued to be stubborn.
Inuyasha had kissed her, wanting to merit a reaction. Kikyou had walked in and fumed. She slapped Kagome again, and punched Inuyasha, knocking him out cold. Kagome had run after Kikyou, but she ignored her reasoning, and declared their friendship ‘over’.
From there Kagome went to the park. She didn’t want to go back to her apartment and talk to Inuyasha when he woke up. She sat on the swings and rocked back and forth. She sighed and watched the children playing. Soon the children were gone, and she was the only one. She looked up at the sky. It was the time of the ‘new moon’. She shook her head, Inuyasha’s weak night.
Soon she heard a voice. “Kagome!” It called. “Kagome!” She could tell he was human. Otherwise he would have sensed her, or heard the soft ‘creak’ of the swing.
“Kagome!” He smiled, finally finding her. She looked up at the black haired Hanyou. She didn’t want to be mad at him, but it was kind of his fault she didn’t have Kikyou as a friend anymore.
“I don’t want to talk.” She said calmly.
“Come on Kags. You can’t be mad at me.”
“Yes I can!” She screamed standing up. “Kikyou just said she wouldn’t be my friend anymore because of you!”
“Well . . . at least you’ve still got Song, Ku, and Me.” He said. She huffed. “Come on. You didn’t like Kikyou either.”
“I liked her! What are you talking about?”
“I only went out with her cause you gave me a pointed nod the day she asked me out!”
“Oh! So it’s all my fault that you went out with her for THREE YEARS!” She started running toward home.
“Kagome! Wait up!”
That’s where she was now. Running home. Inuyasha was chasing her, but he didn’t have demonic speed tonight. She ran up the three flights to her apartment and slammed the door. She started crying and threw herself on the couch. She muffled her sobs into her pillow.
“Kagome,” Inuyasha had her spare key. She cursed herself for making him her ‘key-keeper’. He sat next to her on the couch, rubbing her back in a calming way. “Kagome I’m sorry. I just couldn’t keep pretending to be happy with her. I had to break up with her. I’m sorry she took it out on you.”
Kagome rolled on to her side before sitting up completely. She wiped at her eyes, feeling foolish. She was twenty-two, she shouldn’t be crying over something so silly. “I’m sorry I was mad at you. It was never your fault.”
“Don’t be sorry.” He cupped her chin and smiled at her.
“I’m going to go to bed.” She said suddenly. “You can stay if you want. On the couch.” She elaborated.
“Okay.” He looked at the couch and smiled. “I think I’ll just go home though.”
Kagome nodded. “Okay.” She hugged him briefly and went into her room.
