Inuyasha sat at his desk, flicking his pen idly against the paper. He had been planning all day, deciding what he wanted to do. Sesshomaru said he could take care of the messy part, but it was up to Inuyasha to consummate the dirty work. He took a long gulp from his now lukewarm coffee and grimaced at the taste. He had been staring at the same plan for the better part of twenty minutes, none the closer to deciding a final course of action.

He released a heavy sigh and tossed the pen carelessly on to the desk. He stood up and walked into the kitchen to refresh his coffee. Kagome would be back any second, and he couldn’t look too conspicuous. Lying to her was killing him, but knowing that this was all he could do was keeping him feeling okay.

As though on cue the front door clicked open and a forced cheeriness of “Hello?” rang through the apartment. Inuyasha walked out from the kitchen, coffee in hand. “Hello.” He responded with an equally forced happiness. “How was your test?”

“Disastrous. I’m pretty sure nothing could have gone more horribly.” Kagome sat down on the couch. “How was your day?”

“Didn’t do much.” He responded nonchalantly.

“That’s cool.” Kagome answered back.

Inuyasha and Kagome could feel the tension in the room; the uncertainty of all that was happening at once, cutting through the room. The tension almost became too much and Kagome thought she might scream until she was hoarse, and then scream more. Inuyasha couldn’t take it anymore, and as he sat down beside Kagome, he thought of all the reasons he was planning what he was. With that a new sense of confidence came over him and he held Kagome close. “I love you.” He whispered.

Kagome felt tears in her eyes. With those simple words, all that needed to be said, had been; there was no going back now. “I love you.” She said back.

The day had come. It was now or never. Inuyasha lit up another cigarette as he waited for Kouga to pull into the bar. It was perfect. Kouga always got wasted on Saturday nights; he was running off pure luck that he hadn’t died yet. Inuyasha was just helping him along.

Sesshomaru walked up beside Inuyasha. “You don’t smoke.” He stated.

“Try living my life.” Inuyasha responded as he flicked the ashes from his cigarette onto the ground. “This hasn’t exactly been a calm week for me.”

“Whatever.” Sesshomaru said, and then stuttered something that sounded like ‘worthless half-breed’. Inuyasha tossed the cigarette to the ground and exhaled the last bit of smoke.

“Are you sure…”

“He’ll be here. This is his favorite place.”

“Suppose someone is with him when he leaves…what then?”

“There won’t be.” Inuyasha answered with certainty.

Sesshomaru didn’t respond.

After a few more minutes a black Audi cabriolet pulled up, the owner being none other than Kouga himself. Inuyasha grimaced, “Does he buy a new car every month?” he whispered.

“I wouldn’t know.” Sesshomaru answered with boredom.

“It was a rhetorical question.” Inuyasha rolled his eyes and watched as Kouga went into the bar. “The time is now.”

Kagome sat at the desk, looking over all of Inuyasha’s plans that he carelessly left misplaced their. As the ideas whirled in her head, she could think of only one thing… a legal way to solve this. She noticed a date on one of the plans, and realized it was today. She dropped the piece of paper and went on her computer. She was going to find a legal loophole if it killed her.

*
After hours of searching through law.cornell, among other websites, she finally found what she was looking for. She printed out the page and hurriedly ran out of her apartment, checking her watch… she had time. “Please god, say I have time.”

Inuyasha took out his pump and stuck it in where the break fluid goes. He then proceeded to pump the break fluid out of Kouga’s car. “Cutting the lines is too obvious, they’d have realized it immediately… but break fluid negligence, and drunk driving…well now he’s just an idiot.” Inuyasha seemed to be talking to himself, because Sesshomaru was keeping “look out”; in actuality he was unconcernedly humming the tune to “Gilligan’s Island”.

“You better be keeping a vigilant watch.” Inuyasha growled as Sesshomaru went into his second round.

“I’m a demon, you idiot, I can hear a pin drop from a mile in every direction. I think I can hear if a bumbling idiot is exiting a club right next to me.” Sesshomaru rolled his eyes. The only personality he showed, and it was sarcastic and smug.

Inuyasha growled as he finished and took the bucket of break fluid and littered the ground under Kouga’s car with it. He only used a little to litter the ground, while he tossed the rest into a nearby dumpster. “There, one wrong turn with no breaks, and he’s gone.”

“What if this doesn’t work?” Sesshomaru asked seriously.

“I don’t know.” Inuyasha answered with a shrug. “Guess we’ll find out.”

“Please let them be here.” Kagome hoped as she sped to the bar. She had read out Inuyasha’s plans and she knew exactly what was going to happen.

She pulled up beside Kouga’s car and jumped out of her own, leaving it on in her haste. “Inuyasha!”

The demi-demon turned quickly at the sound of his name. “Kagome! What are you doing here?” He asked in a panic.

“I know what you’re doing. You don’t have to!” Kagome shoved the papers into his hand. Inuyasha took them curiously. “It’s not legal.” She panicked.

“Kagome, you don’t understand.” He tried explaining his situation to her, as though she were a small child.

“No! You don’t understand! What he’s threatening isn’t legal!” Kagome pointed at the papers that Inuyasha was holding. “He can’t accuse you of the same crime to which you’ve been acquitted.” Kagome was smiling; finally she had gotten through to him. “Now, put his break fluid back.”

“Half-breed.” Inuyasha looked in panic at Kouga, who had just exited the bar. Kagome spun around in a panic. It was too late. “Kagome, what brings my woman here?”

“Out for a nice night drive Kouga. Yourself?” She smiled pleasantly, trying to hide her panic and fear, but she knew Kouga could sense it.

“Beautiful day.” He slurred. Kagome felt a tiny bit of relief. Perhaps he couldn’t sense it, if he was three sheets to the wind.

“Yea it’s a great night.” She smiled, “Why don’t we go for a walk?” She asked.

“Mutt-face?” He asked, looking at Inuyasha through glazed eyes.

“Hey Kouga.” He said nonchalantly, as though people spoke casually to their enemies every day.

“I can take care of you right here… right now.” Kouga stumbled toward him.

“No Kouga. That’s not necessary. Let’s go for a walk.” Kagome tried again, taking him by the arm.

“Why are you being so nice?” he asked, narrowing his eyes at Kagome.

“Because, I see no reason for us to hate each other.” Kagome forced a smile, trying to remain calm.

“You’re up to something.” He stated.

“No. Really.”

“What are you up to?” he demanded.

“Nothing Kouga. Come on, please, lets just go for a walk.”

“Get your hand off of me bitch.” Kouga yanked his arm out of Kagome’s hand and nearly knocked her over.

“Don’t speak to her that way.” Inuyasha’s anger flared up, he couldn’t stand watching Kouga touch Kagome, much less abuse her.

“Shut up I’m not dealing with you right now.”

“I’ll teach you to be so cocky.” Inuyasha started at Kouga, but Sesshomaru caught his arm.

“Let it go.” He urged.

“Let go of me Sess.”

“Use words, not fists.”

“Like you know what you’re talking about!” Inuyasha broke free of Sesshomaru’s grip and went after Kouga.

“Inuyasha stop.” Kagome stood between Kouga and Inuyasha. “Please.”

Inuyasha surrendered his motivation to charge at Kouga and beat him to the ground. He took a few shaky breaths and tried to calm himself.

“Kouga, I think we need to leave.” Kagome said.

“Fine, let’s go.” Kouga grabbed her by the arm and put her in his car.

“No Kouga! Not in the car, we should go for a walk, it’s so nice out.” As though the world was against Kagome it began raining.

“It’s raining, we’re driving.” Kouga got in the drivers seat and started the car.

“Kouga! You let Kagome out of that car right now!!” Inuyasha ran to the car door and tried to open it but it was locked. “Open the door Kagome.”

“It doesn’t open when the door is locked.” She said, trying to remain calm.

“Kagome get out of the car! Kouga let her out now!”

A light blinked on – signaling Kouga was low on break fluid, but he was drunk and ignored this.

“Kouga, there’s a light on, that means there’s something wrong with your car. We can’t ride in this car Kouga.” Kagome said, pointing at the light.

“This cars fine, I just bought it.” Kouga pulled out of the parking lot and sped around the corner.

Kagome looked back at Inuyasha, who had gotten into her car and sped after them. It was meant to happen that she was in this car right now, she wouldn’t fight it.
