InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ For One Reason or Another ❯ Bloodline ( Chapter 2 )
A/N: This disclaimer is for all previous chapters and chapters that follow it: I do not own InuYasha and the characters involved in that manga/anime, Rumiko Takahashi does and I am glad that she does because she is a wonderful person to provide such vivid characters for our disposal. So here is chapter two of the new revisions. I hope you all aren’t mad at me.
Let me thank bk for reviewing on 03/014/10 and in answer to your question, of course I’m going to finish it. Unfortunately that means I am only going to focus on this story and none of my other ones for a while. I will try to get a chapter up within 2-3 days. If you have any suggestions feel free to review or email me, I am always up for good ideas.
Chapter 2: Bloodline
‘Her and this damn necklace!’ InuYasha growled as he stared into the deep blackness of the well. He knew he could just hop right in and the magic of the well would take him to her time but once again he cursed the necklace he wore, ‘If it weren’t for this damn thing I would have never let her go for this long. One more friggin day, on more and she will come home.’ he thought as he refocused his attention to the tree he was reducing to mulch. He shook his thick, silver mane of hair and growled at the tree while running his claws down the bark. He shook his claws to clear them of the bark and raised them to repeat the process when a voice interrupted his shredding.
“One wouldn’t be missing Kagome-san, would he?” a certain lecherous monk said leaning against a tree that had luckily escaped InuYasha’s attention.
InuYasha’s ears flicked forward then back as he growled, “Shut the Hell up monk!” He glared at the monk as he dealt the tree a particularly harsh blow that caused the already weakened tree to snap and fall to the ground with a crash.
“I seem to be correct, based on the fact you don…” He didn’t finish because a angry demon slayer named Sango had bashed in the head with a thick book. She looked down at him and shook her head.
“I think maybe you should check on Kagome. She must have been in a hurry to get home because she forgot one of her school books.” she tossed the book to him before continuing, “Maybe you can take it back?” Miroku groggily stood up behind her, holding a hand to the back of his head. He shook his head to clear his mind and grinned when he noticed the luscious form of Sango in front of him. He slowly inched his hand towards her rear. Sango stiffened and her eyes narrowed dangerously as she turned on the monk, “HENTAI!” she screamed at him as she slapped him across the face hard enough to drop him again. Miroku scrambled to his feet as Sango stormed towards him, intent on teaching him a lesson in pain.
“Oww smack Sango, I smack didn’t smack mean smack to offend smack you!” She shouted at her as he covered his face against the shower of blows unsuccessfully. InuYasha shook his head in wonder, glad for once of the beads. ‘At least Kagome can just sit me and I don’t have to fear a hard fist in the face.’ he turned and hoped in the well as Miroku crashed to the ground unconscious.
Kagome’s Time
“Happy Birthday Kagome!” Shouted her mom, brother and grandpa. Kagome smiled, it felt good to be home. Then she frowned briefly, ‘Something is missing.’ Seeing her frown her mother reached over and patted her on the back.
“Don’t worry dear, turning 18 isn’t all that bad.” her mom said as she grabbed a gift wrapped in blue paper. Handing it to Kagome, her mom sat back on the couch watching her daughter’s expression like a hawk watches a field. Kagome sighed then a happy grin beamed off her as she carefully unwrapped the present. Her mom held out a hand and took the carefully unwrapped paper and set it on the couch next to her. Kagome always saved the wrapping paper and used it to make scrapbooks.
Kagome squealed in delight as she held up a small gold paper box. Opening it she pulled a silver chain and held it up. She smiled even more at the pendent hanging from the chain. It was of two dogs, a large silver one was sitting up and a smaller black one was laying besides it. “Oh mama, I love it! Thank you so much!” she ran over to her mom and gave her a big hug. With a simple motion she pulled the chain apart and put it around her neck.
“I’m glad you like it Kagome.” Her mom said as she smiled.
“Oh I do Mama, I do.” Kagome said breathlessly as her brother handed her a larger box wrapped in red. She unwrapped it as carefully as she had the first and inside was a new backpack and some pocky, in chocolate, her favorite kind. She pulled the Backpack out and instantly loved it. It was a dark blue with a lot of pockets and places to put things.
“It’s a hiking backpack.” Souta said as he grinned. “I saw it and thought that it might be better then your old yellow one. I sneaked a look at it last time you were home and noticed all the holes.”
“Thank you Souta, I know it will get a lot of use.” She hugged her brother as she put the pocky in one of the pockets.
“Kagome, I also have something for you, something that has been passed down through our family for generations.” Her grandpa said as he walked forward, a long slim package wrapped in a white paper and tied with a string died blue. The paper looked old and frayed and the string was fading in a few places.
‘I really hope it isn’t the arm of a Kappa.’ she inwardly groaned as she took it from him with a smile. As she carefully and gently unwrapped the paper she found it was rice paper with a delicate pattern of cherry blossoms done in a lighter blue. After she had the paper neatly folded and set aside, she held a wooden box with a gold latch. Opening it she found a hand carved bow nearly as long as she was tall. It was made of cut bamboo layered together in a way that could not have been repeated in the modern world. The string, she guessed was made of some type of gut and had been carefully preserved for years, maybe centuries. The wood was carefully polished and cared for, as it had no cracks. Along the handle, which was wrapped in white doe skin, writing followed the curve of the bow. “May your Heritage, Sense, and Love protect and guide you through your journeys.” tears formed as she hugged her grandpa tightly, “Thank you grandpa, thank you so much!”
“And here is something else, for luck.” He said as he held out a mummified Kappa hand.
“Thanks,” she said dryly as she grabbed it. It even had a nice little bow tied around the wrist. She shivered as she set it down with her backpack.
“What does the bow mean about heritage?” Kagome asked.
“You are a miko of course!” her grandpa said as he stood up. “I am an old man. I am going to retire to my room. Good night Kagome and I hope you had a good birthday.” He kissed her cheek and said goodnight to her mom and brother and went down the hall.
“Oh my goodness, I almost forgot! I’m going to the mall with my friends, I have to get ready!” Kagome said as she stood the bow in her hands. It fit perfectly as if it were made for her.
Souta yawned and stretched, “I’m going to bed to sis, I had a tough soccer game today.” he hugged her then went up the stairs.
“Kagome?” Her mom said as she picked up the wrapping paper and handed it to her. “Can you please come into the kitchen with me?”
“Sure mama.” Kagome said as she followed her into the kitchen. She sat down as did her mom.
“This is going to come as a surprise to you, but after seeing how you took to InuYasha, I believe you can understand why I haven’t said anything until now.” her mom said as she looked at Kagome, with a hint of sadness in her eyes.
“Your father is not dead.” Kagome gasped as her mom continued, “He is in fact very much alive.”
“Alive? But how Mama?” Kagome asked quickly and in doubt.
“Listen carefully Kagome, almost everything you thought about yourself, has been a lie.” Her mom said, “Your father has been the target of a group of people who kill what they don’t understand. Your father and a few other are the last of their kind.”
“Last of their kind?” Kagome echoed.
“Yes.” she paused, “ Kagome you and InuYasha are not so different.” Her mom, Hitomi said then looked down then back up.
“We aren’t?” Kagome said as she thought about. “How?”
“Your father, my husband, is a demon.” she said as she looked at her daughter.
InuYasha
“What?” InuYasha softly said as Kagome’s mom continued.
“Before you were born your father went into a partnership with another demon. An Inu Yokai, the same type as your father. That is what I mean by you two are not so different.” InuYasha cocked his head as he considered her words. ‘the same type? Kagome is a Inu hanyou?’ his attention went back to Hitomi as she continued on.
“They found out that many demons and their half blood offspring were being hunted and murdered. Soon only four full blooded demons were left. The lords of the South, North and West and the lady of the East. Your father is the demon leader of the North. His partner is of the West.”
“It must be on of Sesshomaru’s descendents.” Kagome said.
“InuYasha’s brother?” Hitomi asked.
“Yes, you know of him?” Kagome asked.
Her mother nodded and said, “You speak of him often. Mostly complaining how he and his brother do not get along.”
“They do fight a lot.” Kagome admitted.
“Your father and his partner created a task force of hanyous and priests and priestess to defend the ones that cannot defend themselves. Often the victims were female children, mixed blood and around your age. Your father and Mr. Takahashi are trying to figure out why they are after women and of your age. This is why I have never stopped you going to the past. The killings are getting closer and closer to here.” Hitomi said as she stood. “You might want to go upstairs and look in the mirror. Your concealment spell has faded.”
With a start InuYasha realized he can smell the thick scent of inu coming from the house. He wondered briefly why he had never known about her mixed blood. Thoughts about the spell flew from his mind as he saw Kagome in her hanyou form for the first time, before she could even see herself.
She was utterly gorgeous, even more so now that she had that alluring scent coming off of her. Her hair was now tinted with a bit more blue and atop her head, the ears she loved so much on him were now on her. The fuzzy little black triangles flicked rapidly around her as she grew aware of her new found ability to hear better and smell hundreds of times better then she had before.
Suddenly it struck him, ‘This was the reason she knew I was in that tree, her demon powers.’ He watched her as she looked down at her nails in amazement, not fear. Her delicate hands now tipped in dangerous claws. Her soft brown eyes were flecked with gold and merrily danced with joy as she grinned, showing her fangs.
Suddenly fearful she would scent him he sprinted to the door and dropped her book on the mat thingy that they used to wipe their shoes-in his case feet- off on. He pressed the strange button that called for the people inside and dashed for the well. As the blue glow encased his body he smiled for the first time in two days.
