Chapter Eighteen: InuYasha’s Pack

“What did you do to your Alpha Female this time?” Sesshomaru asked as he stood against the wall of his study, holding a scroll.

“Absolutely nothing.” InuYasha said as he stood.

“You sure about that pup?” Sesshomaru said, as he unrolled the scroll and handed it to InuYasha.

“What’s this?” InuYasha asked behind clenched teeth.

“The map of your lands. Every land feature and village is shown and this map has magic that allows it to shift and change showing where all your pack members are. The magic also allows any land changes within its boundaries. It also shows if a member of another pack comes within your territory.” Sesshomaru told InuYasha.

InuYasha looked at the highly detailed map and saw his ‘pack’ was camping on the outskirts of Sesshomaru’s garden walls. “Why can I see your lands?”

“Because that is where your pack is currently placed.” Sesshomaru said as if that question should have never been asked. “You should check on your female.”

“Keh!” InuYasha said rolling the map up. He looked at his brother and said in Inu-Yokai >Pup goes look over pup’s female. With leader’s permission.<

Sesshomaru looked down at InuYasha and nodded. The hanyou wasted no time in running through the halls. Seeing Rin, he stopped and knowing Inu-Yokai carried a long distance called to his brother. > Do pack leader want me to take pup to pup’s female?<

>Yes. You hurt pup I kill you.< Sesshomaru replied.

>Pup does as leader requests.< InuYasha said hating the fact that pack law prevented him from disobeying. InuYasha looked at the little girl and smiled. “Hello Rin. Do you remember Shippo?” the look on the girls face told him she didn’t. “Do you want to play with another little kid and another kitten just like yours?” Rin nodded, happily the black kitten glared at InuYasha as it was bounced up and down.

He took the little girl and held her in his arms. The kitten looked at him and hissed, InuYasha growled at it and the kitten bit his hand. Rin laughed, a sweet sound to InuYasha’s ears. InuYasha took a running start and leapt over the garden wall. Rin giggled and laughed the whole time. InuYasha smiled once again at the little girls antics.

InuYasha stopped down wind of the camp and watched Kagome sleep. Sniffing he realized all were asleep except Mizu so he cautiously crept into the camp. He snuck past Miroku’s sleeping form and stopped when he reached Kagome’s sleeping place. Seeing the kit sleeping on her he pulled him off and put his free hand around his mouth. Shippo’s eye’s narrowed as he recognized who it was. Holding Rin in his other arm, he motioned with his head for Mizu, who had watched as he snuck through the camp, to follow him.

As soon as he was out of the camp and well away from Kagome’s hearing range he turned and set Shippo and Rin on the ground. Shippo spoke up his voice full of sleep, “What do you want?” InuYasha picked the kit up by the scruff of his neck and flicked him on the nose, telling Shippo he was being disobedient. The kit’s eyes widened as he fell limp in the Hanyou’s grip. He pulled his head back and showed his throat. InuYasha whined and set him on the ground.

“Good pup. I want you to keep Rin happy. You do remember Sesshomaru’s little girl that kept following him around right?” InuYasha asked the kit. InuYasha sat on his haunches.

“Yes, I’ll watch her okay.” Shippo said without taking his eyes off the ground.

“Good. Mizu why is Koga wounded?” InuYasha turned toward the cat.

“The ox tossed him when Kagome shot at it with an arrow.” Mizu said as she looked at the kitten in Rin’s arms.

“Really. Wish I saw that.” InuYasha said with despair. InuYasha looked back at the camp to where Kagome laid. “I want to wake her up and tell her about my lands.”

Shippo looked at InuYasha and said, “You have lands?”

“Yes pup I do. Sesshomaru was told by my father if anything happened to my mother he was to take care of my lands till I sought to claim a mate. I left to get my lands back. On the way I stopped in that clearing to rest. I was lounging in that tree you slept under and I saw a tiger Yokai come under it, he was wounded. He spoke of killing Kagome and Rin. I went to Sesshomaru’s to warn him. I didn’t know until now that you, Miroku, Sango, Kagome, Myoga, Kaede and Kirara were in what inu-Yokai like me form. I had formed an unofficial pack. Sesshomaru made it official today. Shippo you are my responsibility to teach and instruct since you are the only pup in the pack and Kagome claimed you as hers.” InuYasha told the kit as Shippo took in all this information.

“If you claim Kagome then I will be your pup?” Shippo asked him an odd look coming into his eyes. InuYasha hesitated when he saw the look was of longing, a look he knew because he often wore it when he was younger.

“Yes you will.” InuYasha finally replied. Next to him Rin had set her head on his leg and had fallen asleep. InuYasha smiled a small smile and picked the sleeping girl up. The black kitten hissed at him again and bit him on the arm. InuYasha growled at him. Shippo climbed to InuYasha shoulder and clung to it. InuYasha turned and looked at Mizu who seemed unusually tired. “are you coming?” Mizu nodded and warily stood up. Looking at the sleeping child InuYasha felt a pang of loss, he knew Rin would never go through what he had when he was a child.
