By the time Kagome had made it back to the study she could here the argument inside. Both brothers were almost screaming. Sighing she waved away the frightened servants. Knocking Kagome waited to be allowed to enter.
“Answer the door bastard.” Inu Yasha snarled.
“Enter.” Sesshomaru snarled.
Kagome entered glaring at her mate. “Don't snap at me.”
Both men snapped at attention. “Sorry Kagome.” Inu Yasha flinched.
Kagome's anger faded and she took a seat at the edge of the desk. The hanyou infront of her kept his hands behind his back and seemed to be unable to stand in just one spot. Behind her, Sesshomaru was just as uneasy.
“What are you hiding?” She enquired.
“N..nothing.”
“Hold out your hands.” She commanded not at all fooled.
The hanyou looked at the demon behind the desk but found no help. Slowly he held out his hands. Kagome gasp in surprise. What the hell had happened? His hands were a black mess. Something had either melted away the skin or burned it badly. In a way it looked like both.
Kagome stood and walked cautiously towards her friend. “Oh, Inu, What happened?” Pushing up his sleeves she revealed that the black mess went all the way to his elbows.
“Does it hurt?”
“Keh.” Inu Yasha looked away.
“I'm being serious Inu Yasha.” Kagoem said sternly.
“Ya it hurts.” Looking at her again he allowed her to lead him over to a cushion and inspect them more.
“Who did this?” Turning over his left hand Kagome gazed at the pus filled blisters and the rotting flesh. Thankfully there was no smell.
“Not who, mate, what.”
Kagome looked back at him giving him a glare that said enough.
Sesshomaru sighed. Placing a double barrier for caution he began. “I took your fang and my fang and gave them to Totosai. The fool was suppose to forge a weapon that would protect you should someone not be able to protect you. That is what I sent the hanyou for. Instead the fool took and created a weapon equal to Syonga. We are unsure what to do with it now.”
Kagome nodded. “I want to see it, but first we need to tend to Inu Yasha. I know that fangs can carry the power of the person they came from so if it was mine and yours then Inu Yasha's wounds are your acid and my purification powers. Don't move Inu Yasha.”
Taking the hanyou's right hand in hers she tried to avaiod causing him too much harm. Calling on her healing powers she sent it into the wound molding it to heal and revive the dead and dying skin. Finally half way through the night kagome pulled her power back into herself and slumped into her firned exhausted. His right hand had been healed fully, leaving no scars or blemishes. His left hand still ruined.
“Rest Kagome, I'll be fine for a day. You can heal me later.”
“I'm fine.” Kagome groaned. Behind her Sesshomaru picked her up and lay her on the floor her head on the pillow he had ordered from their room.
“Rest mate, talk to your gods and train. You can finish tomorrow. I will catch Inu Yasha up on the happenings of the palace.”
“`k.” Kagome smiled and let sleep take her.
Sesshomaru stood and returned to his desk.
“What the hell?”
“You know not a lot of things. Do not raise your voice.” Sesshomaru snapped.
“What the...” Taking a breath to clam down Inu Yasha started again. “What has happened that you seem so relaxed with Kagome.”
“Kagome has become even more special. A few nights ago she made contact with the Gods. They are training her, once her training is complete we will gain those we have lost.” Rubbing the bridge of her nose. “The...woman has also adopted around 30 hanyou children.”
“You mean bitch. Kagome doesn't like the word because in her time they use it to describe a whore. I'm sure if you explain that as dog demons a bitch is just the alpha female, she might no bite everyone's head off for it. I tried to but she stormed off before I could finish.”
“Hn? I'll think on it. However we have other issues. I must leave for a day or two. Our Uncle has demanded he meet Kagome, however having been exiled his unwelcome to return to the Western lands. I am not old enough to deny his passage, but Kagome's Gods have granted our fathers passage as long as we deliver a message to the East. The faster we deliver the message the fast our father is returned. And the faster our Uncle is deterred from his foolish idea of returning.”
“What's so bad about this uncle?”
“He is the man that started the war that killed your mother, helped plot our father's death, and tried to overtake my rule. If he returns to these lands it will be harder to force him out, and even harder to kill him. If our father returns then he can simply call rank and force out our Uncle. As Lord we are equal but until I turn 500 moons, I am not the Inu no Tashio of the Inu clan.”
“Whatever. So you're going to go deliver this message and I'll stay here and keep a hold on everything.”
“Yes, but watch Kagome. As you know she is with pups.”
“Pups? I thought it was just one.”
“We have discovered that it is now 4.”
“Oh shit.” Inu Yasha's face turned white.
“Hn. When Kagome wakes again I will take my leave. You can tell the Monk and Slayer they may leave.”
“Why?”
“They wish to return to their village and the slayer village.”
“Oh, alright, I'll take care of it.” Inu Yasha stood and left. He was shocked at all that had happened in less then a week.
Kagome stood this time on a baron field. There were only small patches of grass sparcly spaced. The ground looked like dried magma. The dry crusty land was alive but only just beginning to live.
“What will you have me do today?” Kagome called looking around.
Today, you will learn to heal, when you can heal this land in one burst you will have mastered healing.
“Alright. I can do that.”
Your mate will leave to deliver our message. We have seen your actions with the children also. It was why we sent them to you. We will not tell you of the future but this decision will harm you in no way. We will allow you a break tomorrow so that you may prepare to bond with your monk.
“Thank you.” Kagome bowed and began her task which was a lot harder then it looked.
Sesshomaru sat watching his mate sleep, his hands steapled, the weapon commissioned to Totosai inches away from his elbows. Looking down at the wrapped weapon Sesshomaru sneered. It wasn't a weapon like Tensaigs, it was truly like Syonga in power. However, the power wasn't that of malice, it was that of purity. Any person who touched the weapon would have a fate worse then Inu Yasha's destroyed hands. He, half the power source of the weapon, was even unsure if he could touch it.
Sitting the whole night at his desk Sesshomaru waited for his mate to wake from her training.
Kagome groaned as she woke from the hold of the Gods. Training had been hard to say the least. In the whole time she had been there she had only mastered the ability to heal spots in the land not the whole area. However she was proud non the less, mostly because she must have learned enough to have advanced to healing after learning attacks and defenses. It just sucked sometimes trying to do all of this on her own, how was she to know she was doing it right if she couldn't apply it to a real battle.
Sitting up she parted her waterfall of hair to reveal Sesshomaru at his desk.
“Hi.”
“Good morning.” He stood careful not to touch the wrapped weapon and walked towards her.
Kagome looked up at the tall demon that seemed anything but kind. She accepted his hand up when he offered it though.
“How was your training?”
“It went well, I'm working on healing now, but it's harder then I thought. They have me on this baron land that looks like the land outside of Totosai's cave. My task is to heal the land, so I'm trying to make plants and things grow and come to the land. It's hard but I think I'm making progress. They told me your leaving to deliver the message to the demon in the east.”
“They are correct.”
“Will you be back in time to help me bond with Miroku? It's tomorrow night.”
“I will return if I have not been successful.”
“Ok. What are you doing today?” Kagome walked down the hall surprised at the bustling going on.
“This one has letters to write.”
“Will you join us for lunch?” She looked up at him and pouted.
“We will see.”
Knowing that was the best she would get Kagome left the subject alone.
Breakfast was messy. It had almost ended with a food fight cause between Shippo and Inu Yasha.
“Enough.” Kagome stood her chair scrapping against the stone beneath it. “Inu Yasha' your not healed enough for this, Shippo you know better.” Her voice dipped octaves showing she meant what she said. “Put the food on your plate and eat, if you want to fight then wait and take it to the dojo.”
“Yes ma'am.” They said together taking their seats agin.
Sango giggled behind her hand but Miroku didn't bother to hold his laugh in. Together they were joined with the rest of the table. Sesshomaru watched on silently basking in the humor.
After breakfast Kagome herded all the children outside for lessons. She was almost glowing with the idea of all of them. Heading for the back of the garden she said `hello' to everyone they meet until she was happy with where they were.
Lining up the kids in pairs she sat them down back to back. “Shippo, Rin, I want you to focus on getting a physical manifestation of your powers. When you get that come find me.”
Both nodded and moved away from the other kids to begin.
Beginning with the youngest two that could understand her she instructed then on what to do before slowly making her way down the line. The oldest boy and girl sat back to back watching the woman that had taken them in. When Kagome finally got to them they had somewhat got the idea of what they were to do.
“Ok you two, I'm sure you watched the others, but I'm going to do something different with you. You're older then the others and can do the minimum with your abilities I bet. See that pond over there. I want you to go find a bucket and fill it with water. Then catch 100 tadpoles.”
“WHAT?” Both kids cried.
The out bust had deterred the others and now they were watching.
“You heard me. Go on get.” Kagome knew they were surprised.
“But how is that training?”
“Go. When you can do it, I'll explain.”
The oldest girl nodded and stomped off.
“That's not fair, why do they get to really train and we have to catch tadpoles?”
“Because whelp it's harder then you think.” Inu Yasha dropped out of the tree to stand beside Kagome.
Everyone stared at the hanyou with mixed expressions.
“Your..you're a hanyou.”
“Keh, ya I am, what of it?” Inu Yasha bent down to look the boy in the eyes.
“I seen you at breaskfast but I didn't notice.”
“Be happy Kagome picked you brats up. If you didn't notice a simple hanyou among demons and humans then you could be dead somewhere else. If you don't notice things you die.”
The coldness washed over the boy. He knew the older man was right, the lack of attention could have got someone killed.
“Go do as your told, Kagome isn't one to do stupid stuff, if she tells you to do something you do it, don't ask questions. If you don't believe her or me, as anyone in the damn place. If you doubt her even a little bit ask anyone about her. There isn't one person in all these lands that don't know the wench. Now go.” Inu Yasha stood. Knowing it wouldn't be a good idea to say more the boy ran off.
“Thanks Inu.”
“Keh. You need help.”
“Not right now. Most of these guys are doing what they need to do.” Kagome eyed all the kids and they quickly returned to their tasks.
“You're a good mother Kagome. I can't wait for you brats to be born and turn them against you.” The hanyou smirked.
“Just remember Inu Yasha, I can still `s.i.t' you.” kagome spelled the word and with each letter his ear went closer to his head.
Thinking about it though, “honestly Kagome, I forgive that bastard for most of my life, but with you two together I know life won't be quiet, you may be powerful but trouble always follows you. Turning even one brat of yours against you would be worth it. Shippo won't plot with me but I'll find someone.”
Kagome sighed. “You're a pain in the neck sometimes, but I wouldn't want you any other way.”
“Keh.”
“Why don't you help me with some of these little ones, I want to see if I can teach them to talk.”
Inu Yasha nodded and pulled his sleeve over his hand.
“Do you want me to heal some of that?”
“Can you?” Looking at his charred hand Inu Yasha flinched.
“Ya, let's sit and I'll do part of it.” Kagome motioned to a shaded area and pulled his hand lightly into hers.
Inu Yasha hissed as skin tore under her touch. “This hand is worse, I had to carry the weapon with both hands but after awhile this hand couldn't open. When I arrived last night Sesshomaru had to pulled the package out with a little force.”
“I'm sorry. I haven't looked at the weapon yet but Sesshomaru seems pretty worried. Your injured because of it... I don't know what we'll do with it.”
“It was made for you. Totosai after he forged the fangs in it, could barely handle it. It's not that it's an evil sword like Syonga, it's just very pure. You're the purest person I know, if you can't handle it then anything short of a God will be able to handle it.”
“Sesshomaru told you I'm training with them right.”
“Ya, he said something about bring back dad.”
“I train at night every for 4 days, the fifth day I get off. So far I can do attack and defense. I think I got it down, they won't give me a partner to train with but it's cool. I'm working on healing now. They gave me the full power of the Shikon while I'm there so I'm trying to manage the power.”
“Are you ok doing this?”
“I guess, I mean the Gods told me to do it, I haven't ever doubted them and I won't start now.” Kagome pushed her power into her friend and began mending some of the damage. “The way I see it is I'm being reborn. Being turned into a demon was just the beginning. They have always been watching, you would be surprized at how ofter I visit and they say `we have see todays events...' it's kinda creepy. Since I came to this era though I've always know that I had a purpose. It wasn't until about a year after I first came here that I realized I was never meant to live 500 years in the future. I've always meant to be here. I am balance, they tell me. Ironic huh? I've never liked you fighting, I've always chose talking over fighting. Everything your demon side came up I could calm it. I'm hardly afraid. Balance suits me, don't you think?”
“Keh, you've always been special, Wench. Look at the past, and look at what the hell is going on now. Fuck, Kagome, the Gods are training you. Do you realize what that means. There are no demons in your time for a reason, you are here to make sure everything doesn't go to hell.” Inu Yasha let out a sigh. “I've been thinking. As much as I've been to your time and with everything going on, I don't think our race is dead, we're just hiding. I thought after a few times to your era Shippo or another kitsune found a sealing charm for our appearances, but lately I think you give show us how to blend in. You explained to me once many big people who run your city don't even have to leave their houses to run things. The way I see it, it's like me and Seshomaru can sit in the cxastle all day and not do anything because servants do the work for us. Right?”
“Ya?” Kagome thought about it for a minute. “Your right, I think. I'm here to balance out the races. I was born human and reborn demon. I get both sides, I'm kinda like you. Stuck in the middle.” Pulling back her power Kagome looked down at her work, His hand was a red and scarred mess but useable. It wouldn't hurt him but I would be a pain to move for the next few hours until she could store up the energy to finish. “Is that good?”
“Keh, I can't use my sword yet but it doesn't hurt as much now. Thanks.”
Kagome smiled and kissed his cheek before standing and beginning her next task.
Lunch arrived before Kagome knew it. Sesshomaru was the last on to arrive but Kagome smiled as he took a seat next to her and accepted her offer for a cup of tea.
“How is your day?” Kagome smiled at him taking a bite of her rice ball.
“This one has finished his work for the day and is now preparing to leave.”
“Oh, okay.”
“You are aware in this one's need to leave.”
“Ya I know but I thought I'd get to go. I'm getting tired of being here.”
“When your slayer and monk return we will visit your family.”
“Can't, we gotta deal with your Uncle. It's fine Sesshomaru, I have these guys to keep me busy.” Kagome smiled sadly at the kids around the table. All of them eating their weight in food.
“Your going to go insane Kagome.” Inu Yasha called from the other end of the table.
“Maybe.” Finishing her rice ball Kagome excused herself without a second thought and headed towards the castle.
Entering her old room Kagome walked over to the window. The plant that she had saved was growing. The once brown stem was now a deep green vine that was slowly inching it's way across the window seal.
“Kagome are you alright?”
“I'm fine Shippo. Just tired.”
“It's different isn't it.” The boy jumped onto the bed and watched his mother.
“Ya. Different.” Kagome turned and looked at her son. “May after some time I'll get use to being here. A lot of it is because I'm having a baby and Sesshomaru doesn't want me or them getting hurt.”
“It's not as bad as it could be. Some Mates lock their females up so no one but them can get to them. I've heard that dog demons are the most possessive.”
“Ya, I know it could be worse, it's just...I like to travel. For four years we've been traveling all over Endo, now in less then a month I'm mated and pupped and not allowed to leave the walls of this palace. It's like living your life in the wild then being caged. Part of me is happy, but part of me feels trapped. I feel bad about complaining, I'm sure everyone else is having their own problems, Sesshomaru never wanted me as his mate, his beast wanted me but that's like two different people. But he's stuck with me non-the-less. Gods I wouldn't even want to be stuck with me on some days.” Holding her head in her hands Kagome laughed. “I'm a mess.”
“Kagome, everyone understands things are stressful. I like it here though. I get along with everyone. I like our picnics and lessons, and my warrior training is going well.”
“That's great Shippo. Maybe I'm just stressing out to much. Lets get back to the others.” Kagome grabbed the kit and carried him back outside to the gardens.
After lunch the day went slower. Kagome with the help of Inu Yasha trained the kids. Sesshomaru departed for the East with a forced promise to be back in time to help her with the bond needed between her and Miroku.
“Shippo Rin why do you help everyone get ready for bed and we'll go out to the court yard and look at the stars.”
Rin and Shippo instantly were gone from the table. Inu Yasha watched them with boredom. Dinner had been silent with only him and Kagome and all the kids she had adopted.
“One day Kagome, your heart is going to get you over your head.” He snorted.
“Probably, but at least I'll have my sanity.”She teased and dismissed the others to get ready for bed.
Inu Yasha followed after his friend. “Are you happy?”
Kagome looked back at him. “I guess. Shippo and I talked, well I talk and he listened, but I'm calmer. It's stressful around here with all the changes, but I can't blame anyone, things just happen. It's nice to have a break from traveling. Winter is coming and at least we'll have a solid shelter from the cold. Shippo reminded me things could be worse, and so I can't whine. What about you? You've always tried so hard to avoid this place, now it's like your stuck here because you want to watch over me.”
“Keh. That bastard may be strong but I know he won't be able to keep you safe, it impossible.”
Kagome giggled. “That's why I'm training Inu, I'll hold my own ground in a battle now.”
“Ya whatever, it's harder then you think.”
“Really, then lets fight.” Kagome spun around with her hands behind her back, and smiled. “Please, I wanna see if I can do it. Your one of the strongest people I know, I wanna try.”
“No Kagome. No, your with pups, I'm not doing it, no matter how much you sit me, no.” Inu Yasha folded his hands in his sleeves.
“Please.”
Letting out a sigh, “Kagome I mean it, if you wanna fight after the births then we can fight but now right now. If something happened, and you lost them, Sesshomaru would kill me, you'd be hurt more then when I ran off with Kikyo, and I couldn't live with myself. I'm not going to do it.”
“Alright, I'll drop it. Speaking of Kikyo, what happened with her, she hasn't been around.”
Inu Yasha looked away unsure of what to say.
“Inu, what happened?”
“When we were on our way here when you got turned, I asked around, from what I can figure out, Naraku destroyed her before coming to attack us. He planed on using it against me, but he didn't plan on you being in heat. He thought that by absorbing all his minions he could get the rest of the jewel, but when Kohaku left on a mission I don't think naraku realized you didn't have his shard. Naraku thought we had the half he didn't have. Kikyo's been dead for awhile.”
Kagome watched him deal with the pain. She couldn't feel to bad since the real Kikyo had been dead for over 50 years, but her best-friend still hurt.
“Oh. Maybe...well,” Kagome was at a loss of words, “At least she's at rest.”
“Ya.”
Sesshomaru flew towards the east range of mountains that marked the border of his lands and the ruler of the East's. His mind was split, one half hoping this demons was worth the trip, and the other half hoping Kagome was alright. It bothered his beast to know he wouldn't be there to protect her if things went wrong. What bothered both of them though was that they had left her and their unborn pups in the hands of his half-breed half-brother, who to him, couldn't tell the tip of his sword from his ass.
Flying over a human village Sesshomaru looked down and sneered. Stopping he floated over the small huts and market. It was mostly humans and half-breeds but something about this village seemed to stop him. Looking up at the sun he sighed and gain his composure before dropping from the sky to land in the town square. Everyone stopped and stared. The men ushered the women into the huts and gathered around him.
“Our Lord, what can we do for you.” The olders of the humans asked worring his hands.
“You will bring the demon that lives here to this one.” The works felt odd as he said them but if this was the place then it could only be the Gods influence over him.
“Demon, Lord?”
“Yes, the demon that lives in this pathetic village. The sire of the half-breeds.” Looking around every man seemed to flinch.
Finally one of the said half demons moved to address him. “Lord Sesshomaru, our father has been forgiven by our village. What business do you have with him? We have done nothing to challenge you.”
“No, but my Mate has been given a task, and is unfit to finish it, this one is here for the demon, bring him to me or this one will do it himself, and that will be less pleasant for all.”
They bowed. “Yes Lord.” Four men left and headed further into the village. Moments later they were lead by a tall man. It was obvious he was a bird demon by his hair. `No wonder many of the females have been dirtied by him.' Sesshomaru thought. He was attractive but Sesshomaru looked on unimpressed thankful his mate was unable to come.
“You summon me Lord Sesshomaru, like a man to be executioned.”
“Hn.”
The demon bowed, once they were face to face, Sesshomaru looked at the man and sighed internally.
“Rise so that my message is clear to you so that this one can leave.”
Standing the demon forced himself to not say anything to rash.
“My mate, was given a message by the Gods, they have seen your deeds and granted your freedom.” Turning Sesshomaru tried to make his leave but his body wouldn't go further then turning.
“My Lord, your Mate or you may call on me or my Kin at any time, you have made us all happy.” Everyone was quiet so that the single demon could talk but Sesshomaru could feel their relief and excitement.
“Hn.” Finally his body allowed him to leave and he took off in a ball of light.
“Answer the door bastard.” Inu Yasha snarled.
“Enter.” Sesshomaru snarled.
Kagome entered glaring at her mate. “Don't snap at me.”
Both men snapped at attention. “Sorry Kagome.” Inu Yasha flinched.
