Sesshomaru pushed his sire away and raced on ground after the scent of his mate. The internal battle inside his mind was confusing for both of the combatants. However they both agreed at the moment that finding Kagome was important. What would happen later would be the question…

Sesshomaru you locked me away for what you yourself are about to do, she is only human, you heard our sire, she comes from a time where the females are equal.

It matters not, she embarrassed us in front of our people.

Grow up. If you think about it we deserved it. The half-breed is always forgetting his place and addressing us with disrespect. We should not punish our pupped mate for us losing control.

I can and I will, Kagome went to far this time.

And what if it was because of the pups? Males don't stick around when females are pregnant, she many being having mood-swings already, we can't hurt her for doing something she has no control over.

She should have submitted.

Why so we could go through with your stupid punishment? You would have made her nothing more then a whore. We owe our sire.

The battle continued as each half fought for control. However the battle didn't show on the outside as the demon Lord followed the trail of his fleeing mate.

 

Kagome stopped beside a mountain base. Panting heavily she looked around. Her miko powers were tracking Sesshomaru while also stretching to watch the conflicting auras of the battlefield. Between all of that and the flying she was losing energy quickly.

“Damn you Sesshomaru. I'm tired of this.” She growled. Sensing an opening in the mountain she began leaping up the face of the mountain towards what she hoped was a cave.

Half way up she felt Sesshomaru only a couple of miles away. Picking up her pace she let out a relived sigh as she entered a small but empty cave. Entering it she turned and placed multiple levels of barriers and sat down to meditate.

 

Sesshomaru felt the barriers as they went up and charged on ahead. Flying up the face of the mountain he stopped at the solid pink barrier. Slamming his fist into it he was thrown back only to rush forward and try again.

 

Kagome felt the disturbance against her barrier that could only be her mate.

Gods, I call to you now for strength and wisdom. She prayed keeping both eyes focused on the blurry image of her mate.

You have called daughter of the land and we the spirits of the land have come.

Unable to look away Kagome reached out a third treadle of power from her core and looked around her.

Who are you?

We are the spirits that create the life of the land. We are the strings that make life and we are the sword that can cut the life to create death. The Gods are busy and have sent us to guide you.

Well thank you for coming to my call. I wish for wisdom to ease my mate's anger and the strength to protect the helpless who can not help themselves.

You talk about those controlled by your Lord of the North.

Yes, I wish to help them. They do not deserve to die unwillingly for a man who hides behind them with only weakness.

You are a caring being unlike those who destroy. We will give you the power to do as you will.

Oh, please I don't want power, I just with for the wisdom to do it and…the courage to do what needs to be done. I don't want more power. The Shikon Jewel was more then I ever wanted and I have that power.

Your heart and mind is why the Gods have blessed you with this power and not another. You selfishly think of others before yourself. With the power the Gods grant you, you would not misuse it like many in this world. You were created to be the balance of this world.

With that Kagome felt the cave return to normal, whatever having been there now gone. Unsure of what had just happened Kagome thought about it but was instead mentally drown in a tidal wave of knowledge. Once it had receded slightly she slowly rose from her sitting position and began dropping the barriers one by one.

 

Sesshomaru felt a shift in the barriers and continued his assault. Finally drawing his fist back he hit the barrier and it shattered to reveal a weary looking demon.

“Mate.” He built up energy and forced it towards the woman in a single burst.

 

Kagome let the energy slam into her and couldn't find it in her to fight it as she was thrown back and into the unforgiving rock. Sesshomaru walked in and towards her. Quickly deciding she was in more danger then she thought she placed and internal barrier around her womb and kept her head down as her Mate walked closer.

“You have made a fool of me, and now you shall be punished.”

Kagome kept her head down twisting it slightly so that the hair slid away from her neck.

“That will now save you now.” Reaching out Sesshomaru grabbed her by her throat and pulled her up.

“Then I will take your punishment.” Kagome whispered. She was so tired and her body was going numb. Looking up she stared into the demon's eyes that held her surprised when she saw them flickering between two different amber colors and red.

 

Whip her but don't rape her.

No, I will punish her like she is supposed to be punished. Our mate has humiliated us.

If you rape her Sesshomaru, she will never love us. We will have failed as her mate.

She is nothing but filth, scum of this land. Pushing at the beast in his mind Sesshomaru reached out and ripped at the clothing covering his mate.

Now who's barbaric? Fighting himself Shunkai pushed his way into control. “Kagome, you need to…” Again he lost control

Sesshomaru showed fangs as he gained control. Reaching out he ripped more of the bone armor away to reveal the top half of his mate.

 

Searching his eyes Kagome couldn't lock on to a single thing. Her mind was racing and a jumbled mess as voices shouted at her.

Our Mate is angry we must submit. Her beast cried curled into a ball at the back of her mind.

Kagome, we are strong, even the pup cannot hurt us. Mideriko's voice soothed.

While they talked to her a piece of her own mind was gnawing at her.

Whimpering she lifted a heavy hand to her head and then a second.

Distantly she heard the snarl of the demon Lord, “This one will not fall for your act.”

It wasn't until a fourth voice was added that Kagome screamed out.

 

Damn it you fool, can you not see that something is wrong?

She is only lying.

Shunkai growled and attacked Sesshomaru, his claws tearing at the skin of the other male. Snarling he swung his fist and hit Sesshomaru's jaw. Taking control of he released the hold on Kagome and turned his attention back to the out of control part of his mind.

 

Kagome fell in a heap on the unforgiving stone floor. Her mind was slowly breaking as the pressure of 4 voices mixed together.

“Stop it, please just stop it.” She whimpered rocking her body, hands tightly clenched in her hair.

 

Shunkai looked over at his mate and pushed Sesshomaru further into their mind. Binding and sealing the demon there he pulled the doors shut and created a cut in the doors so he could at least see out.

“You will watch for the time being. When you have calmed then we will switch. Until then, for our mates safety and the pups I won't let you go, even if we both die.” Turning he took full control and began tending to their mate.

 

“Kagome.” Shunkai took the woman in his arms and sat.

“Make it stop.” She whimpered releasing her hair to bury her face in his neck.

“Make what stop?” Trying to be gentle Shunkai smoothed out her hair and massaged her back.

“The voices. There are so many.”
”Its over, your not in danger any more you can just ignore them now.”

“But it's so loud.” He felt her flinch.

“Well who is talking?” Unsure of what to really do he waited patently.

“Can't tell.”

Pulling her away he looked into her eyes and searched them. The crystal blue was slightly glowing and the streaks of amber were bleeding out more then normal.

“Who are the voices Kagome? You need to separate them.” He said.

“Beast….Miderkio….mind….I don't know.” She cried.

“Are there only the three?”
”No four. Make them stop its so loud.” She whimpered again.

Four? He thought. How does she have four? A demon only has two. His beast and himself, but Kagome has Mideriko because it's a past reincarnation. Who is the fourth?

LET ME OUT! Sesshomaru snarled.

No, now shut up, since your not going to help.

Shunkai looked down at his mate and continued to think.

“What does it want you to do?”

“Things I don't understand.” Kagome cried. Her hands went to her head and she began shaking in his grip.

“Stay with me Kagome, I want you to take a deep breath, let the barrier down on the pups, they are in no danger.”

Kagome deftly nodded and dropped it, instantly the fourth voice disappeared and only three were left. Kagome took a deep breath to calm herself again, her own mental voice stopped followed by the two others.

It's about time that annoying screaming stopped. Mideriko said before returning to her place.

Kagome looked up at the demon holding her and began crying again.

“What's wrong Kagome? What are they saying now?”
”Nothing. It all stopped.” She whimpered.

“Then what is wrong?”
”I don't understand, but at the same time I do.”
”Understand what?”
”Why did you get so mad at me? Why did your dad have to stop you? Why?”
Shunkai let out a deep breath. “Kagome, we sometimes forget that you are not a natural born demon. We forget that you don't know what steps to take when we get angry. It's not your fault. Listen to me Kagome.” The woman looked up from his chest and Shunkai could only feel his heart twist at her pain. “I got mad at you the first time because it is a mate's job to pleasure her male when ever he wishes. I forgot you did know. This time Sesshomaru got angry that you embarrassed us in front of so many people. Instead of standing back and watching or letting the hanyou take the brunt of our anger you made us look like a fool. Kagome you can't do that.”

“But…” He placed a finger to her lips.

“I know you care for the hanyou but even we won't kill our blood relative. Kagome you must have some faith in us. Right now I am in control because Sesshomaru wishes to punish you, he wants to rape you in front of everyone to show that we are not weak. Our sire has saved you from such a fate, but I fear that to calm him down you must be punished in some way.”
Kagome bit her bottom lip but nodded anyway. Maybe he could finally teach her…well it didn't really matter now, what's done had already been done. I have this feeling that the gods gifted me with the knowledge of these demon laws that I keep breaking. Now all I have to do is really learn them and apply them.

“Shunkai. Thank you for fighting for me. I know sorry won't be enough this time or next time I screw up.” Bowing her head she unconsciously bared her neck.

“There are many things you do not know of fin this time, we can not punish you for all of them but this time I cannot save you completely.”

“I figured.”

“Since I am in control, I have the ability to say when and what your punishment will be. I have heard the words of our sire and we will return to the battle but when we have triumphed I have no choice but you whip you.”

Kagome felt the tears falling from her eyes but nodded anyways. She wasn't in her era any more, she was in an era where everything was as it was, she could change something because she didn't like it.

“Alright, lets get you a new robe and head back.” He pulled her into his arms and stood.

“Shunkai?”

Looking down at he fragile woman in his arms he waited for her to continue.

“Could I ever be just human again? Just be able to be myself without having to worry about doing something wrong? Will I ever be able to be the real me?”

Thinking for a second he decided not to say anything.

 

The fly to the castle and back to the battlefield was silent. Kagome didn't so much as look at the male that held her and he only kept his eyes ahead of him.

The sound of battle was heard long before they came to it. Looking down at the field Kagome felt tears start to build in her eyes, a pain built in her chest along with it.

“You waste your tears.”

“The land is crying and you say I'm wasting my tears?” Suddenly angry Kagome pushed away from the demon holding her and plummeted towards the bloodstained earth and fighting.

“Damn it.” Shunkai dove after her but stopped when she righted herself and pulled a sword to join in. Sighing he watched for a second before taking off in search of his sire.

 

Kagome fought to clear herself a space to be able to talk to the Gods. Fighting with skill she pushed back dozens of men to form a tight ring of her own men.

“Cover me for a minute.” She yelled before stabbing the ground with her sword.

You summon us again daughter.

“You want me to heal this land? Well here I go.” Laying her hands out in front of her she pressed what power she had left into the ground. The demonic and holy power fell from her hands into the ground creating a tidal wave of blue light that engulfed everything and everyone.

Forcing more power into the ground, Kagome watched but didn't react as the dead bodies were swallowed into the earth and the blood stained grass changed into red wild flowers. Closing her eyes she let the power wash over her and followed it to the reason why they were here.

Lord Kitamarto was fighting off her mate and Inu Tashio losing badly.

Kagome pulled herself back into her body and grabbed her sword. Moving with as much fluid as the power around them she moved towards the fight.

Upon reaching the battle Kagome flexed her power and cleared a space for herself.

All three males took notice of her and backed away from each other.

“Kagome, get back.” The two Inu closest to her warned.

“You chose to interfere again bitch? Well then DIE!” Leaping forward Lord Kitamarto swung his sword in a downward arch expecting to slice the woman in half.

Instead he was met with two swords crossed in front of her, held by his opponents.

Growling warnings the two Inus pushed him back.

“You have caused this land to cry, Lord Kitamarto. It is not of the Gods will and it is not of their will we are here today.”

“You talk to much.”

“Do I? You have been tricked into your own death. Whoever told you to come here with such false intentions used you, just like how you use these people. I have heard the will of our Gods and it is time to end the suffering of the land and the people.”
Sheathing her miko blade, Kagome reached over and drew the pure blade from her obi and raised it to the sky.

“The Gods have passed judgment on you.” Lowering the blade she pointed it at him. A single line of light can from the tip headed directly towards the Northern Lord to hit him in the middle of his forehead. Seconds passed as he screamed out in pain before he turned to ash. A black wisp of smoke left the body in a whisper.

“We will return home.” Kagome sheathed her sword and promptly blacked out.

 

“Does she always do this?” A masculine voice asked.

“Lady Kagome, was never one for passing out unless she was gravely injured.” Another answered.

“Hn. She is waking up.”
Kagome looked at the dozen or so hazy forms gathered around her. The thumping of her headache caused the hazes to pulse but they quickly formed into their rightful shapes.

Most of the children were crowded on one side of the bed while the adults were on the other and at the foot of the bed. Looking up Kagome felt something cool be placed over her head.

“What happened?” She groaned accepting the cup of tea offered to her. With two of the children's help she sat up and began to sip the hot liquid.

“You have been asleep for a few hours. It is past dinner.”

“Oh. Sorry.” She blushed and took another sip.

“I believe, Lady Kagome, that you used to much energy.” Miroku piped up. “Might I add you still look stunning.” Sango slapped the back of his head and pushed him out the door.

“If you can't behave then you can leave.” She muttered slamming the door behind him. “Are you ok, Kagome? Everyone is telling stories about the battle.” Pushing her way back to the bed she sat down and pulled the cloth from her friend's head.

“I think so, I don't remember much after I dropped out of Shunkai's arms.”
Inu Tashio looked over at his son who didn't seems fazed.

“You seem to like to make a show of things Mate.” Shunkai's words were clipped as he addressed her.

Kagome looked over at him and clearly gave him the look `what-the-hell-do-you-mean?'

“Come on brats I think it's time for baths.” Inu Yasha grabbed the closets child by the scruff who grabbed another. One being pulled by another, Inu Yasha emptied the room.

“I think it is time I went to bed to, Kagome, we can talk tomorrow.” Sango gave her friend a smile and left the room.

“Yes, I think it is time to retire.” Inu Tashio grumbled as his son shot him a glare. Kagome sighed and nodded saying a quick good-night.

Shunkai looked down at his Mate as she finished the tea and placed the empty cup on the stand. Shedding his clothes he pulled the curtains on the window and blew out all but the candles by the bed.

“Shunkai? Did I mess up again somehow?” Kagome's whisper can to him from the bed.

Pulling back the covers he climbed in bed pulling her small body against his larger frame.

“Just go back to sleep Kagome.”

“But?”
”Sleep.”
deciding this wasn't the time to argue Kagome burrowed into the heat of the male's body and went to sleep.
