Kagome smiled as she watched her children and friends from the roof. Leaning against the chimney she looked down at the 15 sleeping bags. Inu Yasha was in the God tree, of course, semi-asleep. Crossing her arms Kagome let the wind carry her hair behind her to float with an eerie ease. She was dress in a simple green kimono that her mom had gotten her for a festival that she never made it too. Now it was almost too small to wear. Around her the smells and sounds floated up to her. It wasn’t to bad but everyone seemed to notice the difference between the feudal era and this one.
It wasn’t really that she couldn’t sleep; but that she didn’t want to. She was wide-awake in a sense. Looking past her sleeping family Kagome stretched her senses again to make sure everyone was safe. Nothing popped up so she returned her power to her body.
I need a great way to stick it to Sesshomaru. Her mind randomly thought.
You could always just ignore the pup.
No Mideriko, I want him to know that I’m not his property. I want him to suffer every time he looks at me.
That’s a dangerous thought. If you go to far then he’ll just punish you again.
He won’t get that chance again. I learned from my mistake, Sesshomaru won’t get the chance again to attack me. Besides I’m not going to let him get close enough to me to hurt me, I can’t let my pups get hurt.
We spent so much energy protecting them we couldn’t protect ourselves. What’s going to change? A male has power over his female its demon law. Even when I was alive, it was unheard of for a female to strike out at her mate and live.
Well I’m not your normal female am I?
The next day Kagome introduce the kids to a variety of sports and games from her time. Each child had one that they excelled at; they even managed to figure out names for a couple more children. It turned out that there were 17 hanyou children in total. Inu Yasha couldn’t tell how old most of there were because it was hard to tell what they were mixed with but age didn’t really matter to Kagome. Shippo and Rin had taken well to being big bother and sister. While Shisuki and Athena, the two oldest hanyou children, let go of their leader roles and let Kagome take over. Training took place after dinner and before bed, but the rest of the day was spent playing.
Sango and Miroku were amazed at Kagome’s time, as were some of the kids but not near as much.
Kagome handed over two more bracelets to Inu Yasha as he prepared to jump into the well.
“Are you sure you want the toad over here? He’s going to tell the bastard everything that happens?”
“Maybe so, but I doubt it. Sesshomaru lost a lot of control the first time we fought. He maybe Lord and I may only be Lady, but more people would risk their lives for me then they would him. I don’t like it and I’m not going to use it to my advantage but Sesshomaru no longer has any control over what goes on in his own castle. They will pick me over him any day. As for Jaken, he’ll tell only what he has to and it will be vague. Sesshomaru always asks open ended questions, he doesn’t want to waste his breath to ask for details, it’s just expected. Jaken and I know that. If Sesshomaru want to know what happen here he’s going to say Jaken’s name once in a demanding tone. If im right in my thinking, all Jaken has to say is that I taught the kids human games. Sesshomaru’s been over on this side before, he wasn’t impressed.”
“That bastard isn’t going to be fooled so easily.”
“Yes he will, look, I don’t know him that well and I don’t really care either way, but Sesshomaru is more stupid then he thinks you are, he believes that people will fear him so much that he can get what he wants, well after you look past the power and the emotionless exterior then he’s just another male.””She’s right Inu Yasha, that’s why us men never won when we fight with Lady Sango and her.” Miroku said as he walked up to the well.
“Keh.” Inu Yasha turned away knowing it was more true then not. Clutching the bracelets he entered the well house and headed 500 years into the past.
“Kagome?” Shippo pulled on his Mom’s skirt.
“Yes Shippo?”
“Can we see more of your world? It is so different.” Kagome looked up to see all of the children fidgeting.
“Not right now. I’m still trying to get my energy back, but when I do, I’ll make some charms so that we can pass for humans. In this time, demons have learned to blend in because there are more humans then demons or hanyous. Maybe next time we visit we can all go on a trip.”
Pleased with her answer the children returned to their game of tag.
“Lady Kagome, I will have to side with the children for the time, your world is much different. It is hard to believe that only 500 years separate our time and this one. I wish to ask to also accompany you on this trip.” Miroku smiled.
Kagome rolled her eyes and slammed the well door shut. “In this time, women would not take lightly to your wondering hands. Here we have buildings that are large dungeons for people that touch other inappropriately they are called prisons.”
Miroku’s face palled. “Yes well, that is when my lovely Sango is for, for she will e the only one I wish to touch.”
Sango gagged behind the monk causing Kagome to giggle.
Inu Yasha jumped from the bottom of the well. He could already sense Kirara on her way back and many others with her, more then there should be.
Sighing he walked back to the village taking in the clean smells of his time.
Kirara was landing when he arrived at Kyade’s. Jaken fell off her back and scrambled towards Inu Yasha.
“Lord Sesshomaru and Lord Inu no Tashio will be arriving shortly, they wish to assess the well and Lady Kagome’s era. Lord Inu no Tashio asked that you make the arrangements.””To hell I will. I’m not their errand boy. They can wait until Kagome wants to come back.”
Kirara mewed. She wasn’t apart of their little spat, she was more interested as to where her mistresses had gone to. Inu Yasha knelt down and picked her up. Placing a very tiny stretchy bracelet around her paw he let her jump from his arms and race off towards the well.
“Look here half-breed, you will do as your told to by your superiors.” Shaking his staff Jaken tried to seem scary.
“You can stay here and tell them they can shove it up their ass, I’m going back to Kagome.” Turning Inu Yasha began walking towards the well.
“Half-breed, where is my trinket.” Jaken stumbled after him.
Half way up the hill and almost within sight on the well Inu Yasha was stopped by his father and despised brother. “Inu Yasha.” His father greeted.
“Father.” Walking past both of them Inu Yasha continued on to the well.
“You have received my message?”
Choosing to ignore the question Inu Yasha prepared to leap the last dozen or so yards into the well. Behind him he heard his father sigh.
“Half-breed, your lack of participation in fathers orders are evident, and this one knows it is because of he that you refuse to obey.”Inu Yasha turned and at once snapped. “I’m not your errand boy between worlds, I’m not going to play your games. Kagome was my friend before any of this and she would have been my Mate if not for both of you. You can both go to hell. Fuck you. Kagome has changed and it’s your fault. I’m not letting you both into the one place she has left. Her family is safe, he world is safe, I promised long ago I would protect it, you won’t cross.” Bending his knees he leapt and entered the well, passing a barrier his father had tried to place that fizzled out due to Kagome’s overwhelming power.
Jaken huffed angry that he was neglected his trinket to see his Lady. Crossing his arms he felt something odd in his sleeve. Looking he found a small green circle much like to ones the children had received. So I got one after all. He thought, tears coming to his eyes. Looking up he watched a moment as his Lords talked about what to do. Something in him knew that they couldn’t know he had a way over to his mistress. What the half-breed had said about it being her place had done something to him.
“Lord Inu no Tashio, perhaps the village elder will know of someone who will know of how to cross.” He volunteered.
“Kagome and her group spoke much of the village Miko, come let us find her.” Inu no Tashio led his son towards the village where their men had been posted. Jaken followed until the bottom of the hill before slipping off and running back to the well. Slipping his gift on he crawled into the well and fell into its depths.
Kagome giggled as she looked at the crumpled toad at the bottom of the well. Inu Yasha had told her what was going on in his time as soon as he had returned. She had only gone in there to add to the power she had placed there.
Knowing the only way to get the poor guy out was to jump down Kagome gladly let herself fall into the well, it wasn’t until she was 500 years in the past that she realized her mistake.
“Shit.” Jumping in place kagome knew the magic wouldn’t take hold unless she left the well completely. Already feeling the auras of her new father-in-law and Sesshomaru she leapt as hard as she could soaring up and out of the well and even farther into the air. She could see the racing forms of the two demons and knew she had jumped to hard. They would be at the well way before she came close to entering it. Pushing off of nothing Kagome changed directions angling herself away from the pair. Turning mid-air she broke contact with the land and was off in a blast of power. Two auras chased her and it was immediately that she realized flying was one of the worst ideas she could have thought of. Aiming for the trees Kagome crashed down and weaved her way through the trees as fast as she could go. Having no weapons and not even really being properly dressed Kagome snarled and focused on speeding up.
Feeling the two chasers split up Kagome darted off to the east and aimed back towards the well. It was when she passed the God tree that she knew she was trapped. Sesshomaru stood on top of the well and there was no way to get into its depths.
Biting her lip and drawing blood Kagome shot off towards the village. However Inu Tashio blocked her way as soon as she began descending the hill.
“Kagome, calm down, we just want to talk.”
Landing she didn’t reconnect to the earth she just hovered on the tops of the grass. Inu Tashio landed fully and stepped towards her cautiously.
“Kagome, we need to see your era. You are our only chance at surviving.”
“Sucks to be you then doesn’t it. You pissed off the only person that can save the entire race.”
“Kagome.” Just her name from his lips had every hair on her body at attention. Snarling in warning, Kagome turned to keep them both in her sight.
“Sesshomaru don’t” Inu Tashio warned.
“Mate.” Kagome flashed fangs as her warning turned into a growl. “This…I’m…” Not even knowing what to sat Sesshomaru just stood there. He looked her in the eyes and held her gaze.
Kagome read the pain the Sesshomaru’s eyes and smiled. He deserved it. Standing strongly Kagome took a deep breath and at that moment Inu Tashio pounced on her, carrying them both to the ground. Straddling the back of her hips and holding her hands against her back the elder male smiled in triumphance.
Kagome gagged at the feeling of her stomach being pressed into the hard earth. Fighting down the feeling she even brushed off the on coming darkness in her vision.
“Please listen Kagome. We mean no harm. You need to return with everyone. You need to return to the Gods and see what they want. You have duties. Ignoring them will not make things better.”
Struggling Kagome fought her body not to throw up. Pressing her forehead against the ground she pulsed her miko powers and threw the elder inu off of her. Crawling on hands and knees she emptied her stomach at the edge of the forest. Breathing hard Kagome stood once her stomach as calm enough.
“My life is no one’s business. The Gods will call me when I am needed, and for your information I already know what my next task is so leave me the fuck alone. If you really felt that you couldn’t just talk to me and you had to attack, tells me that I can’t trust either one of you and I know for damn sure I can’t trust Sesshomaru. Now you’ve proved the point that I can’t trust you, I’ll give you credit for not being as much of an ass as your son over there but it seems like the whole family has attitude problems.”
Inu Tashio let the women in front of him vent knowing she was angry. Maybe he had gone about this wrong, but the fact that she had come back was an opening he couldn’t pass up. Letting her continue he watched in fear as his son approached the miko. Don’t fuck this up. Was his only thought over and over.
Kagome watched as her so called mate came towards her. “Leave us.” His distant voice filled the clearing.
“How about this, I just go home?” Crossing her arms Kagome prepared a barrier ready to throw it up at anytime.
Inu Tashio growled, why did his son have to do this now, if this went badly Kagome wouldn’t never return. Sighing, knowing he didn’t have a choice, Inu Tashio took to the skies and headed to the village.
“Mate?”
“Hardly by choice.” Kagome retorted.
Knowing he deserved this, Sesshomaru reigned in on his instincts. “I wish to talk.”
“Keep wishing.” Kagome headed towards the well.
“Please.” Both people in the clearing flinched at the word; Sesshomaru for saying it and Kagome because he said it.
“I’m too nice sometimes.” Kagome muttered silently.
Sesshomaru moved to stand in front of Kagome being slow enough to show he meant no harm. “Kagome, we need to talk.”
“Each time we talk, I’m either forced to do something or I end up getting almost killed. Stay where you are, your not getting close enough again to do anything.”
“You are…” Stopping his words he started over. “This is hardly a way to talk.” Looking at the distance between them he knew she wouldn’t let him do what need to be done, and de deserved it, he deserved a lot.
“Deal with it Sesshomaru.” Feeling like her old self, Kagome smiled in her head.
Knowing anything further he said would be begging Sesshomaru pulled a very small package from his sleeve and tossed it to her. Turning he left.
Kagome grabbed Jaken as she jumped out of the well and dumped him in the courtyard as she entered the house. Everyone watched as their friend stormed into her house clearly angry. Inu Yasha and Sango shared a look knowing whatever had happened hadn’t been good. Moments later all the hanyous on the ground covered their ears and a high-pitched scream filled their ears.
Kagome tossed the package on her bed and let out most of her anger in one clear scream. Already having a headache she didn’t mind the pounding once she stopped screaming. Breathing deeply she grabbed a pillow from the bed and threw it at the wall causing an eruption of feathers. Grabbing another innocent purple square she launched it at the same area. The feathers floated down to the floor looking like snow.
“Kagome?” On the other side of the door Kagome heard her best friend.
“Go away Sango, I just need sometime. Tell Inu Yasha that in an hour I want to battle.””Ok Kagome, I’m going to take a shower then.”
Kagome smiled but the memories of the last hour pissed her off again and she was again throwing things.
Inu Yasha sat in his tree watching the kids play dreading his fight with Kagome. Piecing together, he could only guess that Kagome had tried to get the stupid toad out of the well and had gone back in time, only to run into his father and the bastard.
Kagome came out of the house exactly on the hour. Holding her sword unsheathed and at her side she head Inu Yasha gulp from the far side of the courtyard.
Don’t kill the poor pup. Mideriko teased.
Inu Yasha drew his sword and braced for what he know was about to happen. Sango and Miroku with the help of Jaken herded the kids off by the house to watch.
Both participants nodded to each other and were off in flashes of light.
Three hours later, Kagome and InuYasha were leaning on each other laughing. She had obviously beat him numerous times but they had fun in tormenting each other. Kagome held her sword in her left hand as she pulled Inu Yasha towards the house. Their observers had taken sides and were watching as Kagome and Inu Yasha approached.
“I told you she would win.” Athen stuck her tongue out at Shisuki who pulled down the bottom of his eye in a silent retort. Shippo and Rin sat in the middle of the obvious break smiling.
“Momma, Rin is hungry. Is it dinner?”
Kagome handed her sword to Sango who gave her a dirty look when she inspected the blade. Picking up the girl Kagome kissed her nose. “I don’t see why not. Momma and Auntie Sango will get dinner while Uncle Miro and Uncle Inu get everyone ready for dinner and bed. Sound good?” Looking out past the shrine to the setting sun Kagome decided she would order pizza.
“Can Rin help with dinner?”
“You have to be the first one to have a bath if you want to help.” Kagome reasoned. Suddenly there was a rush from all the children to get to one of the two bathrooms.
Rin pulled off Miroku while Athena grabbed Inu Yasha up. Both tiny girls fended off the other children and locked them in their respective bathrooms.
Sango and Kagome shared a glance and looked into the house only to hear the commotion of kids banging on the doors.
“Good thing I thought to ward the house so nothing could break, burn or in anyway be destroyed.””How is Kagome, that you can use all this power and still not be strong?” Sango walked with her friend as she entered the kitchen and pulled out an odd book fun under the counter.
“I don’t know. I have my powers its just, I don’t know, its like having a bottle and right not its less then half full. Like the concealing bracelets I’d have to make for the kids will take a ton of my strength, I’d rather wait so that I have extra in case something happens. The bracelets that let you cross didn’t take anything hardly from me, all I had to do with them was put a single drop of power in them so the well know it was safe to let you pass.”
“Lady Kagome?” Jaken stuttered.
“Ya Jaken?” Kagome expertly flipped through the telephone book to the pizza delivery services.
“This lowly servant wishes to know if he will be eating tonight.”
Kagome shared a low with Sango and the little toad practically strangled his staff. “I would expect you too. But why do I have a stupid feeling that this is going to be off the wall?”
Rin and Athena bounced into the kitchen holding hands giggling. “Master Jaken likes plants, Lady Mother.” Rin said taking a seat at the table.
Kagome and Sango looked at each other again “Plants?” Sango mouthed confused.
Shrugging Kagome looked back to their audience.
“Uhh...hum…well…” Kagome didn’t even know what to say. Rubbing her head she turned away from the phone book. “Well, actually here try this.” Kagome turned and opened the fridge pulling out a pack of salad mix. Opening it she poured a little into a bowl and offered it to Jaken. He smelled it before popping a piece of lettuce in his mouth.
Kagome suddenly found a star struck toad staring at her with adoration. It was the creepy look he gave Sesshomaru when something had gone well that he had done.
“Lady Kagome, this lowly servant thanks you.” He bowed trying to hide the fact that he couldn’t stop eating what she had given him.
“Well there is more here if you still get hungry, just let me know if you eat it all so we can go get more.” Kagome placed the bag on the table so that Jaken could get to it. “Back to dinner. I was double thinking me idea. It’s going to be hard to cook this late and pizza is something I’d like the children to try but it would take awhile to get enough food for all the little ones, so Sango can you go into the shed out back and find a rope.”
“Sure Kagome.” Sango headed out the door.
“Momma what are we doing?” Athena asked turning her head so that her two black ears twitched. A single fang poked out of her lip and Kagome could only wonder if Inu Yasha looked like the little panther hanyou when he was little.
“Can you go tell Inu Yasha and Miroku to hurry if they can?” Both girls nodded and took off.
Kagome sighed. Looking into herself she felt the energy sitting there, she wasn’t at full power like she had told Sango but in a few more day she would be, if she didn’t use power after what she planned to do then she would be back up to full strength by the time she had to go back to the feudal era in 13 days. Sighing, she patted her bulging belly. Thankfully that to was going well, she didn’t know how far along she was in human terms, or when she was due or anything that would be helpful but she couldn’t really care less. A small pang went through her body and she smiled knowing one of then had just kicked.
Turning her attention back to things at hand she walked out to the storehouse and began sorting though all the trinkets.
“All this crap and we don’t have anything good enough to spell.””Kagome?”
Looking up Kagome smiled before returning to looking. “I’m not even going to lecture you about being here and getting caught because I’m sure you know who is here.”
“Ya I know.” Shisuki smiled.
“I take it you’re the messenger to me now because you couldn’t stay away and I know about you but no one else?”
“Something like that ya. I came to help, here.” He held out a package and she stood taking it. “I should be getting a bath about right now, Uncle Inu complained all the time about getting suck giving us baths but he never really minded because he always thought this was as close to happiness as it came for him.”Opening the package Kagome looked at the handful of necklaces that were charged with a concealing spell. “I take it you’ll play human and have people watching us?”
Shisuki smiled, “Go to Jake’s, where you went with Souta’s soccer team.” Then he was gone.
“You would be keeping tabs on me.”
“Who’s doing what?” Sango asked holding a rope.
“Nothing, talking to myself. Gramps has video cameras I wouldn’t be surprised if there aren’t some hidden around here. Lets head inside, I got the concealment charms.”Sango eyed the little pouch Kagome held.
“You ok? I thought you said that that takes a lot of power, those even make the hair stand on my arms.”
Kagome looked at the pouch she had received. Shrugging she led her friend back to the house.
Miroku stopped scrubbing Shippo’s hair and looked out the bathroom door.
“Shippo do you feel that?”
“Ya, I think Momma did something.””I’ve only felt stuff like that when we pass temples of Gods in our travels.””I’m a kit, I don’t Miroku.”
Kagome emptied the pouch onto the table and pulled the necklaces inside apart. Laying them out she knew the old versions of her children had picked out these and she had to have spelled them herself. They weren’t fancy but it was obvious they were hand made and meant for demons. Not one of the charms was in anyway the same. Looking at them Kagome traced the patterns with her eyes. Two were charged stronger then the others and Kagome know who they went to.
Sango looked down at the necklaces and rubbed her arms. “Kagome?”
“I guess those necklaces Gramps was hiding were special or something.” Kagome lied thankful Sango couldn’t see her face.
Rin and Athena entered the room with all the children but Shippo and Shisuki.
“Almost done?” Kagome asked.
“Yes Lady Mother.” Rin walked up to see what was so interesting. “Lady Mother, they are so pretty.”
“Aren’t they?”
“Does Rin get one?” Kagome counted the necklaces and was surprised that the little girl would get one.
“Yes Rin-rin, you get one but you have to wait because we have to wait for everyone.” Kagome smiled and laid a kiss on the girl’s head. Placing a hand on each charm Kagome pulled three forward. Two were so strongly spelled she was positive they weren’t for the kids. Then the other one had a different charm completely, it was more of a protection spell then anything.
Jaken poured the last of the salad mix onto his bowl and stared silently at the things Kagome had laid out.
Miroku and Inu Yasha decended the stairs followed by Shippo and Shisuki.
“Thanks guys.” Kagome smiled at the two men.
“Keh.” “It was no trouble Lady Kagome.”
“So I don’t want to cook tonight again, and with the kids being so good I figured that we should go out tonight.”Miroku looked at the necklaces on the table, the power coming from them was almost visible. Whatever had been done to them had been done by nothing less then a God. Looking at Kagome he forced his shock to remain hidden, or Goddess.
Kagome watched Miroku and knew that she was going to have to talk to him, he knew she hadn’t done them and if he said the wrong thing at the wrong time, then things could go really wrong.
Grabbing one of the stronger charms Kagome held the metal in her hand. The chain and funny symbol were light in her hand as she walked over to Inu Yasha.
Unclasping the clip she placed it around his neck and fastened it. The change was almost instant. He looked like himself on his human night, his hands were clawless and his feet were smaller. Kagome noted they looked like they would finally fit in his shoes. The only things that remained the same were his body structure and his eyes.
Kagome smiled as he spun around in circles trying to see everything that had changed. The modern day clothes they had begun wearing were perfect for him.
Grabbing the rest of the charms from the table she placed each one on the kids. The changes where almost like Inu Yasha’s. Each kid resembled what Kagome could only guess was his or her human night.
Setting the other strong charm by Jaken she smiled as the toad looked up at her. “You don’t have to come with us, you can just go take a nap but the invite is open.” Turning she grabbed Rin’s hand and her purse.
“Lady Kagome wait for me!” Jaken’s pitiful cry filled the courtyard as he ran to catch up. The charm had turned him into the thin and younger version of her Gramps almost. His face was a little fuller then she imagined a human Jaken and her was still bald but it was more of a human gone punk. Laughing at the man she tugged on the rope the children held and descended the steps.
Miroku held the door as Kagome let the children in.
“Kagome!” A pudgy man walked over to her and embraced her.
“Hi Jake. I’m sorry for dropping in like this.”
“Oh no we were expecting you.” He winked at her giving her a once over and then turning to usher his workers out.
Kagome ushered the kids to the empty tables pushed together and helped them sit down. The two youngest hanyous were given high chairs next to Kagome and Sango. Kagome and Inu Yasha sat at the heads of the table while Sango and Miroku sat somewhere close to the middle. Other patrons to the small diner watched them in fascination. To them it looked like 4 teens were taking care of over a dozen children, all were controlled and polite.
Kagome motioned the kids to stop moving around so much and to calm down. She spread her aura over them just to help more.
“Momma? I thought you said we would have to wait before we could leave the shrine.” Athena leaned over the table and looked at Kagome.
“I know. I accidentally lied, but Auntie Sango and me need a break from cooking, even with helping its very tiring, and going out tonight means you might get to play more before its time to go to bed.”
Kagome winked at the girl.
“Momma? When are we going back home?” Katsumi, a panda hanyou asked. He barely was able to see over the table.
Kagome shared a look with all her friends before letting out a sigh. “Probably in 7 or so moons, baby. Momma has to get a little stronger.” Looking down she let a smile grace her lips as she felt a handful of kicks.
“Kagome you okay?” Sango watched her friend.
“Ya the pups are just really active lately. They keep kicking, it seems to get lower and lower each time.”
Sango shared a look with Inu Yasha and both stared at her with worry.
“Kagome how long has it been since that night?” Sango looked at the other people around them who seemed to be ignoring them.
“I don’t know. Besides the Gods are in on this so I doubt anything about this pregnancy will be normal. Why?””Well, normally when a female is pregnant she carries high and as the due date gets closer the pups fall. About the time they are when normal people carry, labor is only a few days if not hours away.” Sango tried to explain.
“So? What I’ll go into labor in a few days? Sango the pups have been lower stomach/ upper pelvis for almost 2 days? I think I’d feel pains or something if I was in labor.”
Sango looked at Inu Yasha again for help.
“Keh. Don’t look at me! I can’t even tell the sexes of the pups yet. You think I’d be able to tell that?!”
Sango and Miroku rolled their eyes.
About that time Pizzas were placed in front of each person and kid. Jaken who had been silent the whole time beside Kagome had a salad placed in front of him. Kagome looked towards the man behind the counter. He gave a single nod with a short bow that no one would think much about before turning and disappearing.
“Why don’t you all start without me, I’m going to the bathroom really quick.”
“Why don’t I escort you Lady Kagome?” Miroku stood and helped her with her chair before Kagome led the way into the back.
“Bathrooms are that way Miroku.” Kagome pointed. She stood next to the kitchen door.
“I know what’s going on. What else is there?”Kagome looked towards the door seconds before it opened.
“Lady Kagome. Please I think it would be safe to talk in here.” Kagome let the man usher them in and followed him into an office where she met with the man who had hugged her.
“Jake. I never would have thought you were one of us. Clever.” Kagome leaned against the door frame and crossed her arms.
“Lady Kagome, Lord Miroku. It is a change to see your younger selves.” ”I’m sure. So do I owe all this to my troublesome son or my older self?”
“Well, we are not allowed to say.””Time and all that?”
“What is going on?” Miroku asked realizing he didn’t know anything at all.
“You know I didn’t make those charms for everyone, but you don’t know where I got them from either do you?””You know that I am of the spiritual people, I have only felt temples that are so strong. Temples of the Gods.”
“Eh, I don’t ask that kind of question when I can.” Kagome shrugged. “The truth is Shisuki gave them to me. The Shisuki in this time.”
Miroku looked past the door towards where everyone was eating.
“Oh. So there are demons here.”
Jake took his turn to speak up. “Yes there are demons here but thanks to the present Kagome, we have all blended in so to speak. I am one of the many.” He pulled out his charm that was tied around his neck.
Kagome returned with Miroku to the table not even looking at each other. Kagome nodded once to Inu Yasha before eating.
It was almost nightfall when the group trudged up the shrine stairs. Kagome had a child on her back and Shippo on her shoulder. Sango carried a child. Miroku carried both babies. Inu Yasha had one on each hip and one on each leg.
“Keh, why don’t you carry one of these brats Kagome?” He cried.
“Because I don’t have your amazing balance.” Kagome bragged.
“Keh.” Inu Yasha puffed up his chest and ignored the extra weight.
“Okay everyone I think it’s time for bed.” Kagome headed towards the back yard where they had set up the sleeping bags.
Once everyone was down for the night Sango and Miroku also retired and Inu Yasha took to his tree.
Kagome went to her room intent on changing. Setting on the bed Kagome leaned as far forward as she could and let out a tired sigh.
“You’d think that such a pain in the ass day would make me want to sleep but damned it all if im not wide awake for the third night in a row.”Pushing her hair back Kagome grabbed her towel and went to take a shower. Noticing the box from Sesshomaru on the bed she flipped it around. Tossing the towel down on the bed again she picked at the wrapping. Inside was a stone box with jewels. Holding it up to the light she checked for anything that could be a trap before taking the lid off.
A piece of parchment had been folded up setting the box down she grabbed it and unfolded it.
Dear Kagome,
I know that I have truly messed up any chance at your happiness. For this I am sorry. However having you no longer in my bed or at my side has shown me that I did know what it was. You took the children from the palace and now the lack of sound is unbearable. Kagome, I have seen the error of my ways and regret every one of them. I ask not for another chance but for you to continue to hold onto the hope that one day you will be happy.
Sesshomaru
Kagome held the note up to the light and snorted. “What a bunch of crap. Like this has moved me enough to give a damn.” Tossing it to the side she looked down at the box. Inside nestled tightly in the silk was a necklace. Pulling it out Kagome looked at it with anger. A single fang was surrounded by a handful of diamonds. It was pretty but nothing she would ever wear, at least not in this century.
Inu Yasha watched Kagome from his perch. Jaken was passed out below him supposedly keeping guard. He saw the anger in her face and the necklace. He watched as she stuffed in back into the stone box and tossed it in the clothes pile. Her mother would find it most likely and put it on her dresser. Kagome disappeared then into the hall with her bathing supplies.
The night was still young but everyone was passed out. He looked over the area and listened to the night.
Kagome imagined the water was washing her problems down the drain. Her stomach was upset from dinner no doubt and her back was killing her. Sitting on the floor of the shower Kagome just let the water hit her.
“Kagome are you okay?” She heard the knock and Inu Yasha’s voice.
“Just not feeling well.””Kagome I smell blood, did you drop something?”
“No?” Kagome looked at her body and didn’t see anything. “Are you sure it’s me?””Keh, I’m not that stupid wench.” Inu Yasha growled through the door.
“I didn’t say you were. There is too much water for me to smell anything, I don’t see any blood though.” Standing she groaned. Looking around her body again, she didn’t see any blood until she looked at the inside of her thigh. “Its nothing I just started my period.”
“Kagome, demons don’t…do that when they’re pupped…” Kagome knew he was blushing.
“So what does that mean?” Kagome turned off the water and grabbed her towel. Steeping out of the tub she felt her legs lock. “Inu Yasha I need help.” She called grabbing the counter before she hit the floor.
Inu Yasha knocked the door in breaking the lock and grabbed her. He carried her to her room when he laid her on the bed.
“I’m going to wake Sango, Rin and Athena.”
“Inu what’s happening?” She held his shirt crying.
“Your in labor.” He brushed her hair back and kissed her head.
“But I don’t wanna be.” She sobbed.
“Shhh…I’ll be right back, just trust me to do what needs to be done.”
“I trust you.” Kagome nodded.
Inu Yasha jumped out the window and then moments later she felt him leave her era altogether.
Sango rushed up the stairs and into Kagome’s room. A tired and excited Rin and Athena behind her. “Kagome, are you alright?””Sango, I’m scared.” Kagome cried curling into herself. Her stomach hurt and her mind was racing.
“Its okay. Girls why don’t you get on the bed and curl up to Kagome.”
Doing as told Rin and Athena climbed onto the bed and curled against Kagome’s back. Rolling over Kagome took and wrapped her arms around the girls.
“Kagome why don’t you stretch out on the bed, Rin get on the other side.”Kagome and Rin did as told. Sango smoothed out the blankets and left to prepare a bowl of water and towels.
Inu Yasha raced to the village holding Athena’s bracelet. The little girl had argued with him for a bit up until he told her it would benefit Kagome more if he had it for a time. She had happily handed it over. Tearing into Kyade’s hut he didn’t waste time taking in his father, brother and the elderly woman.
“Inu Yasha, what has ye in such a panic?” Kyade set her soup bowl on the floor.
“Kagome’s in labor.” Taking and forcing himself to calm down he stood tall. “She’s been in labor for a couple of days from how she explained it. We just didn’t notice until now. The first pup is due in a few hours. I was hoping you could cross over and help us. Sango is with her now but im afrid she may not have enough training with birthing that if something goes wrong Kagome or a pup will be in danger. Kagome raised the point that the Gods have a hand in this but lately things have been out of their control.””Alright. Help me prepare. Kagome will have little time. Ye will fetch my herbs from outside.” Inu Yasha nodded and took off outside to her garden in search of the basket.
Kyade stood and wobbled over to a shelf that held many pots. Grabbing an arm full she placed them in another basket and turned as the hanyou burst back into the hut.
“I’ll carry the baskets we can walk up the hill to the well. You’ll need this to cross just in case. Kagome still has a barrier up so I brought it.”
“Inu Yasha.” Inu Tashio interrupted. Standing he set aside his own dinner. “You are aware that Kagome will be in danger for the next few days.””Your not coming old man, you and the bastard are staying here. Unless Kagome asks for you or tells me other wise your not coming.”
“That maybe so, but that means until the pups meet Sesshomaru first, you can not go anywhere near her or them.”
Inu Yasha turned to his father in anger. “I don’t care what you say old man, Kagome is the only thing I care about right now. I’ll pass on your lies and if Kagome wants anything to do with the bastard then she’ll drop the barrier, but I’m not going to put her in danger more then she is.” Grabbing the baskets he led Kyade up the hill and to the well.
Sango bit her lip. She didn’t know a lot about demon pregnancies but she know that what was happening wasn’t right. Kagome was pale white, sweating, gasping for air and worst of all she was groaning in pain. Both girls at Kagome’s side and turned to holding their mother rather then Kagome holding them.
“Kagome? You need to tell me what’s going on.” Sango had thankfully taken the towel off of her friend and placed one under her so what blood there was wouldn’t puddle to badly.
“Where’s Inu?””He went to get Kyade, he should be back any moment.”
Kagome, do something! Mideriko cried from the back of Kagome’s mind.
What do I do? I don’t know what I’m suppose to do!
Kagome closed her eyes and searched for something that could help
Need mate.
The primal voice that shattered through everything she was feeling seemed to calm Kagome. Searching for the voice she found herself standing in front of a pair of steel doors, taller then she could see. Behind them were a pair of red eyes without a body.
Why should I listen to you? Who are you?
Need Mate. Pups fighting because scared. No sire, need mate.
Kagome stared at the figure before realizing this would be the only thing that would help. Looking up at her beast she stretched out a hand and lightly called it forward so she could see it better.
The black dog padded forward as far as it could go, Kagome looked up at it and smiled. The fur was black almost blue like her hair, but at the same time the coat looked silver in places.
What if I just shift into you? Wouldn’t it help?
Kill pups. Need Mate.
I really don’t want to deal with Sesshomaru.
Need mate.
Realizing she was losing Kagome left the gated image and opened her eyes. Checking her breathing Kagome felt the well activate and two people cross into her time. Minutes later Inu Yasha led Kyade into the room and let himself out with a blush.
“Inu.” Kagome cried just as the door shut. ”Keh?”
“Pull the swords from the well, just please don’t let him in the house.”
“Are you sure?””I don’t have a choice. Tell Miroku to add his energy to the barriers, if something happens then I don’t want them crashing down around us.”
“Alright wench, just don’t die on me.”
“I know.” Kagome wheezed.
Inu Yasha jumped from the well and came face to face with his father and brother. “You got your wish. Kagome’s only request was that you not enter the house.” Inu Yahs growled before leaving as fast as he had come.
Grabbing the towel he pulled the holy sword, wrapping it up he then pulled Kagome’s miko sword from the floor as well. Finally he pulled Tetsiga and replaced it on his hip. Seconds later Sesshomaru appeared at the bottom of the well. He jumped and exited the well house taking perch just outside of the window on the roof. Inu Tashio the appeared and walked with his son out and took a look out post at two other points of the roof.
It was promised to be a long night.

A/N: Hey everyone I know this is kind of a cliffy and the story is bouncing around but I’m in the process of a character list to help out. Once I make up all the names and get somewhat back on track I’ll post it so that you know the characters I’m working with.
Converting /tmp/phpvSQOm4 to /dev/stdout
