Kagome looked out at the parking lot from her perch on the top of the four story mall. She had hid her scent and left the building knowing her Mate was fine with her future version children and her pups were probably being pampered by their future version Aunts. She knew they needed to get back to the shrine to contain most of the damage probably being caused, but she hurt. Her heart was aching, this time it hurt worse than every time Inu Yasha had picked Kikyo, more than when Sesshomaru had flipped on her the countless times. Letting out a tired sigh she looked up.“I take it this is more punishment. I finally find happiness only to turn around and fall into a coma for 20 years. You really suck.” Kagome muttered to the skies, listening to the noise of the city around her. “Four years dealing with Naraku, three years putting up with Inu Yasha running off with Kikyo, and 3 months of being treated like shit. That’s just fucking great. Let me guess I wake up and my kids won’t even know who I am? My pups will be teens and I’ll be just another woman in the castle. Twenty years, and Sesshomaru will have found someone else to warm his bed. Inu Yasha will have started another life, one where he has a mother’s love. There really is no place for me is there?” Kagome held back a roar and settled for digging her claws into her hands. Sesshomaru listened to his mate, angry but hurt. Her words gave him a calm sense in the fact that she was no happier about this then he. It wasn’t until he smelt her blood and salt that he decided to make himself known.  Kneeling he placed a hand on her shoulder.Kagome was surprised when Sesshomaru touched her but she relaxed. Turning she looked up at him seeing the same pain she felt reflected in his eyes. Kagome leapt into his chest pushing them onto the rocks of the roof. She fisted her hands in his shirt and cried harder. Sesshomaru wrapped his arms around his mate and held her to his chest. One hand petted her hair while the other held her around the waist. They stayed like that until the sun had almost fully set. Shisuki approached with caution as he came closer to his parents. “Do you want me to take the pups back to the shrine? Rin said they have been asleep for the last hour.”Sesshomaru looked back over at his adoptive son and nodded reaching under Kagome’s shirt to retrieve the keys attached to her belt-loop. Tossing them to the man waiting, he adjusted the sleeping Kagome in his lap. “We will return shortly, however it would be best if the all the pups were fed when we returned.”“Alright, I can take care of that. We’ll meet you back at the shrine.” Shisuki bowed before disappearing. Sesshomaru watched the silent tears trail down his Mate’s face as she slept in a restless sleep. He was flying back towards the shrine with her held bridal in his arms. Landing with ease in the courtyard Sesshomaru, walked to the house kicking the door lightly open with his foot. Most of the children had taken their dinner into the living room. From the smell Sesshomaru figured Shisuki had ordered pizza for them. Inu Yasha looked up from the couch where he sat with 4 other children. Standing, he went to his brother and they both ascended the stairs in silence. Sesshomaru laid Kagome on the bed with ease and covered her with the blanket before taking a seat on the floor beside the bed. Inu Yasha held a grim expression, he didn’t need to be full demon to know that something was wrong.“We will not be going back.” Sesshomaru declared.“What happened?” Inu Yasha fell to the floor crossing his legs and folding his arms against his chest. “Kagome will sleep for 2 decades. I believe it was called a coma. Shortly after we return from Mt. Hakuri. I will not lose her.” Sesshomaru snarled. “Then we don’t go.” Inu Yasha agreed. “She will not agree.” Sesshomaru sighed reaching up to stroke Kagome’s hair.“Tell her your reason, she will listen.” Inu Yasha advised. “Kagome has always listened before she acted, at least anyways for me. You’ve managed to push her buttons enough you might have to sit on her first.” Sesshomaru’s lips twitched in a slight smile. Inu Yasha snorted. Kagome groaned from her place on the bed. Her eyes fluttered open and she pushed herself up into a sitting position. “Mate, I believe we need to talk.”Kagome grunted she had heard him but was still trying to wake up. Rubbing a hand over her face she pushed her hair back and tried to make herself look like she was paying attention.“We will not be returning.” Sesshomaru tried to harden his voice and keep his emotions from it but he knew Kagome would be able to hear it.“You know we can’t just stay here.”“I will not lose you when I have finally got you back.” Sesshomaru hissed turning his head to look at Kagome.Kagome looked down at him and saw the pain still in his eyes. “I know.” She finally whispered ripping her eyes from his. “Then we will remain.” “Inu Yasha can you leave for a minute. Go get a glass of water and the Asprin for me. Sesshomaru needs to know something that is a surprise for you.”“Keh.” Inu Yasha stood and left the room. Once Kagome heard him at the bottom of the stairs she turned to her mate and smiled sadly. “We have to go back, because we have to open the portal between the afterlife and this world. As much as I don’t want to leave you or everyone else, Sango and Inu Yasha deserve to be happy again.”“You have said as much, however this one wishes to clarify, his mother?”“We get your Dad back too but that’s the major one I’m counting on for Inu Yasha.”Sesshomaru let out a sigh and stood. “I do not enjoy this.”“Me either, but at least it’s not forever.”“Hn. You will no doubt wish to bond the slayer to you tonight?”“Ya, I need to do that so Sango doesn’t age or die while I’m asleep.” Kagome crawled off the bed and looked towards the door just as Inu Yasha came in with what she wanted.“Thanks Inu.” Taking the bottle of Asprin she grabbed two and drank them down with the water.“Lets get the marriage done and I’ll do the bonds and we’ll go back.”“You need to eat mate.” Sesshomaru reminded her.“I thought we weren’t going back.” Inu Yasha growled. “We have to.” Kagome smiled sadly and left the room.
Sesshomaru tied the red cord around Miroku and Sango’s wrists with the final words. Kagome stood at Sesshomaru’s side holding the two silk pouches. She pulled out Sango’s ring and handed it to Miroku who slipped it on Sango’s hand.  Sango in turn took Miroku’s ring and did the same. “Okay, now I have to steel your wife, Miroku.” Kagome smiled.“Kagome?” Sango whined. “Well do you want to grow old and die while your husband stays young?” Kagome teased.Sango paled before untying the red cord and grabbing Kagome’s hand.
Kagome had let the children decorate the empty shrine house with the forget-me-nots while under her supervision. They had done a good job considering the flowers and petals covered every inch of space.  “alright, let’s get this gone.” Sango shuttered as Kagome let her enter the shrine house before sliding the door shut.
Kagome came out first followed by Sango. Everyone gathered around them and smiled. Miroku grabbed his wife in a tight hug while Sesshomaru picked Kagome up and headed into the back yard. The children follow their mother and Sesshomaru, each wearing their bracelets. “Is everything at Kyade’s?” “Yes, Inu Yasha took everything back and we have cleaned up the shrine.”“Okay.” Sesshomaru let Kagome stand on the edge of the well and helped balance her. “I’ll see you on the other side.” She smiled. Jumping she felt the pull of the magic and smiled as the purple light of the well held her.
Sesshomaru let Sango and Miroku cross next before helping Inu Yasha with each of the children. Finally when Rin and Shippo crossed last they nodded to each other and jumped in heading back home.
Kagome watched as everyone passed her not noticing her. Finally Inu Yasha and her mate passed by and Kagome felt herself follow along with the remaining magic of the well.Sesshomaru leapt over the edge of the well disturbed that he couldn’t sense his mate.“Where is kagome?” “She isn’t here.” Sango said worrying her bottom lip.Turning back to the well they watched as Kagome jumped out of it with an arch of purple mist. “The well is forever closed.” Stepping towards her family she leaned heavily on Sesshomaru. “I think it is time for bed. We have a long trip ahead of us and we have to be there in 2 days.” Sesshomaru picked up his mate and lead everyone down the hill to the old Miko’s hut.
Kagome woke up to a tugging on her robes. Groaning she rolled over on the cot and looked over at the hanyou pup standing there.“What is it baby?” Kagome asked. The little boy sucked his right thumb but pointed with his left hand out the door. Kagome looked towards the covered door way. “Is something going on outside?” He nodded slowly, but didn’t move or stop pointing.Kagome wiped her face of the lasting sleep and climbed off the cot. “You stay here okay?” The hanyou nodded.
Kagome pushed aside the door hanging and stepped out into the dawn light. Dew had gathered on the grass and it seemed like nature was just beginning to wake up. Looking around, Kagome kept one hand on the hilt of her sword. Sesshomaru and Inu Yasha were nowhere around or anywhere where she could sense them. Kagome smelt the wind and picked up nothing strange. Sending her aura out, she felt the start of a power surge. Looking up at the sky she noted how the clouds were traveling towards the North. She couldn’t see anything past the hill near the edge of the village. “Sango.” Kagome called back into the hut. A sleepy Sango stepped outside ready for battle. “Huh?”“I’mma head out, something is building in the North, if the boys come back let them know to follow me.”“Alright, be careful, you wanna take Kirara or Jaken?”“No, they can stay, it’ll be easier if I go alone.” Kagome gathered her power around her and speed off across the sky in an arch of blue light.
Sesshomaru looked up from his post as he felt his Mate heading towards him. Inu Yasha skid to a stop at his side looking at the sky as Kagome streaked by them.“Something has changed.” Sesshomaru commented grabbing his brother’s robes and giving chase.
Kagome landed at the base of Mt. Hakuri. The sky had turned an inky black and from the looks of it, the clouds were carrying mass amounts of water. It was sure to be a hell of a lightning storm.Sesshomaru landed next to Kagome dropping a red faced Inu Yasha. Inu Yasha pulled his robes forward and took a deep breath. “Oi ya bastard, what are you doing trying to kill me?”“It’s started, let’s go.” Kagome’s voice was trance like as she stepped onto a worn path heading up the mountain.Sesshomaru followed in a measured pace. Inu Yasha had to run to catch up by the time he caught his breath.
At the peak of the mountain Kagome stood just a few paces in front of Inu Yasha and Sesshomaru, both brothers standing shoulder to shoulder. Their hair whipped around them as the wind picked up and the storm began.“This is it.” Kagome whispered drawing her Miko blade. Sesshomaru stepped up to Kagome’s side. Inu Yasha stepped up on her other side drawing his only sword.“Draw Tensagia, Mate. We are here to bring life, not death.” Kagome placed a hand on his arm and looked him in the eyes. “Promise me you’ll keep me safe, no matter what happens.”“You have our word.” Sesshomaru drew his sword and watched the single tear fall from his Mate’s eyes.“You better be around when this shit is over Inu Yasha or I’m going to hunt you down and s.i.t you until you reach the other side of the world.” Kagome smiled at her best-friend.“Keh, you can’t get rid of me that easily.” He called over the wind smiling with a single fang poking out of his lips.Kagome raised her sword and the lightning caught it after that everything just seemed to click into place as the lightning formed a ball at the tip of her sword. Sesshomaru cut through the wind causing the ball to fly off the sword tip and yards away from them. Inu Yasha let lose the wind scar breaking the ball in a shower of light. When the final spark had fallen into place 5 people stood in a blinding light. “Welcome back to the living, Lord Inu Tashio, Lady Izayoi, Kohaku, Kagura, and Miroku Sr..” As Kagome called the names the light faded around the person leaving all five standing in the storm like they had never died. Inu Yasha dropped his sword and fell to his knees when his mother had been freed from the light. He couldn’t really remember her but seeing her now was like seeing an angel, a being that he had only seen in the recesses of his mind. Kagome smiled and bowed at the group who smiled and bowed back. With a crash of lightning the group decided it was time to move on. Kagome formed a barrier around the group and pushed her power into it causing the bubble to float before streaking off towards the village.
Kagome landed in front of Kyade’s hut pretty much dropping everyone the last few inches from the ground. No one seemed to mind though. “Hey Sango?” Kagome walked forward and poked her head into the hut. Sango looked up from making breakfast. Kyade looked up from her herbs. “We got company.”Sango stood and looked at Kyade before exiting the hut.
Inu Yasha enveloped his mother in a big hug twirling her around laughing with tears in her eyes. Sango too had hugged her brother who smiled and tried to escape the less then manly behavior. Miroku who had gone to get water stopped and dropped the bucket at the sight of the group, seeing his father standing at the edge of the group wearing similar robes as his. The middle aged man looked over and smiled. The two walked towards each other and shook hands before laughing and hugging patting each other on the backs.
Kagome watched with a smile on her face feeling her energy fading fast, seeping into the five reborn people. The three humans of the group looked back at Kagome with smiles as her energy wrapped around them to extend their lives to match her own. Inu Tashio watched with a blank face. Kagura stood back from the group looking slightly uncomfortable, she had never been an ally or know any of the people as anything more than when they were all dead. Kagome looked over at her and walked over. Kagura crossed her arms and tried not to show how she was feeling.“I’m glad you’re getting a second chance Kagura. I know you have nowhere to go, so I’d like to extend an invite to live at the castle until you find something you want to do. Maybe you can even train some of the army. You are welcome thought when ever.” Kagome stretched out her hand and Kagura took it.“I am in your debt a hundred life times over Kagome. You have my loyalty.” Kagura placed her free hand over her now beating heart.“You are free to do as you please but I am happy to have you as a friend this time and not an enemy.” Sesshomaru kept a hawk eye on Kagome as she moved around. His bond with her felt like it was freezing over; like a sheet of ice was creeping down the cord that linked them together. Kagome turned to face her mate, “I love you Sesshomaru.”
Sesshomaru barely caught Kagome before she hit the ground in a dead heap. Her shallow breathing was growing quieter and quieter but even at its slowest she never stopped breathing. Her skin paled as the blood in her veins slowed and her heart followed. Sesshomaru looked down at his limp mate looking around for any sign that it wasn’t happening. He had been warned but the pain was so strong that he had to bury his face in her hair to hide the tears. “Wake up. Kagome wake up.” He whispered over and over hoping she would hear him and everything would just be a joke. Inu Yasha set his mother down and looked over at the couple. He heart stopped at the sight of his best-friend. Seconds later Sesshomaru’s pained roar ripped through the village and all of Japan.Kyade exited the hut with all the pups, and Jaken. They looked over at Sesshomaru and Kagome. Inu Yasha and Sango had to stop them from rushing to their mother’s side. Sesshomaru buried his face in his mate’s neck breathing deeply. Holding her limp body in his arms he streaked off into the sky. Everyone watched in pain at the sight.
Sesshomaru landed on a secluded cliff that looked out over the ocean near the castle. He was numb on the inside, barely keeping his sanity. Looking down at his sleeping mate in his lap he wiped the stray hair from her face. The sight of her caused another flood of tears to pour down his face. “Wake up Mate.” He whispered slightly shaking Kagome. “This is no longer funny.” But Kagome didn’t even stir.  Shisuki’s words played out in his head over and over, but the thought of losing Kagome for 20 years was still a foreign concept.
Inu Yasha watched the sky until his neck hurt. Letting out a sigh he went into the hut.  Sango had shooed the kids off the go pick weeds.“Kyade you said you had trained a miko to take your place?” Miroku asked.“Yes. She has moved into a hut here in the village, but ye must have another reason for asking.”Miroku looked up Inu Yasha. “We’re all going back to the castle. Kyade we’d like you to come so that you can watch over Kagome. Sesshomaru is going to be a wreck for a while. This hit us really hard even if we did know it would happen. We need to build ourselves up so that nothing can happen to Kagome while she sleeps.”
Kagome looked down at her grieving mate with pity. Her body was frozen in time and there was nothing she could do about it. In fact with the way her energy was draining even that of her God powers she understood why she needed this sleep. She watched as invisible treadles of gold power seeped from her body and headed back towards the village where the others were. Deciding it would be a good idea to check on them she disappeared from her mate’s side and landed next to Kyade in her full hut. Almost everyone looked upset but Kagome watched. Izayoi looked straight at her giving her a smile that anyone else would have recognized as a smile at Kyade. The gold power seeped in around the hut to disperse into the newly reborn and surprisingly Kyade who in the few seconds just standing there Kagome thought the old woman was growing younger. “I believe we should gather the pups and head to the castle before it gets dark. We can make it half way tonight.”“These old bones cannot travel so far in so little time.” Kyade sighed standing to gather what she thought she needed. Kagome snorted and leaned against the wall not minding to much that Kyade kept walking through her. Izayoi stood and with a few words stepped outside with a quick glance back at Kagome. Catching on Kagome dragged herself away from the wall and just walked out knowing even if she stepped on someone she wouldn’t hurt them.Once they were far enough away Izayoi turned on her and looked the transparent Kagome over. “So this is your form when you leave your body? Most Miko don’t have the ability.”Kagome looked herself over and sighed knowing she looked like her predecessor Mideriko. “Truthfully I have no idea what the hell is going on other them my energy is still filtering into all of you and that Kyade is getting younger. And why is it you’re the only one who can see me?”“I have always had an affinity for the dead. You however are only in between the worlds for the time being. You will wake when you have enough strength or when something else happens.”“Ya twenty years. So I’m stuck like this?” Kagome let her shoulder hunch and she rubbed the bridge of her nose.“Not really, at least I don’t think so, I think if you try you can breach Sesshomaru’s mental barriers and hang out in his mind. I might even be able to convince him to let them down enough you can squeeze in. As long as you try and contact him or leave tiny hints your still with us he might maintain his sanity.”“Ya well you all had better hurry to the castle in that case because he’s taking this pretty badly.”“Alright. I’ll pass the word along. You might want to head back to your mate, you’re going to need to stay around your body. Just because your not im it doesn’t mean you can’t return to it and it doesn’t mean you can’t call on what little power you have left in it. You can try to write in the dirt or something to let Sesshomaru know your still around and not trapped in your mind.”“I’ll try it. Thank you, but I’m sorry I have to ask one more thing of you. Tell my pups the truth about me, I don’t want them to think that I left them or I didn’t want to be their mother. Tell them that I didn’t want this and I’ll be watching over them every minute of the day.”Izayoi nodded and returned to the hut.
Kagome placed a hand on her mate’s shoulder but let out a frustrated groan as it just passed thought him. She had also tried to enter his mind but his mind had placed extra barriers while in his grievance. Finally she reached out to her body and touched the remaining spark of power that resided in the toy chest in the back of her mind. Holding it freely in her hand she reached a glowing hand out and wrote in the dirt beside her body.
Sesshomaru looked up from his Mate’s hair at the sound of moving dirt. The dirt and rocks parted with and unseen force. It was a sloppy written word that took his tear filled eyes and pain filled mind a moment to understand.Mate
Kagome smiled at her handy work and dusted her hands off. Sesshomaru had lost the pain filled eyes to a more hopeful look. “Kagome? Please come back, don’t leave me, I just finally got you back. I don’t know what I’m feeling but I know that when you’re around it doesn’t hurt as much.”Kagome wanted to badly to wipe his tears away and touch the hurt puppy look until it turned into something happier. She drew on her power again and erased the single work to write more again.I here. Watch over. Help comes. At the final period Kagome sat back suddenly tired. Her chest was tight and she wanted to curl up and sleep. Sesshomaru had other plans though. He gripped her body tighter and stood. “You are either trying to trick this Sesshomaru are you are truly Kagome free from your body. This one believes that you are truly Kagome. We shall return to the castle.” Sesshomaru was torn inside as he disappeared into a ball of light headed towards the south.
Inu Yasha followed his rag-tag group of humans and demons as the slowly made their way west. Kyade sat on Kirara in front of his mother who supported the elderly woman, although elderly wasn’t the right word for it. He had a headache thinking about everything that had happened. Inu no Tashio lead the group down the path while everyone talked. Sango was happily talking to Kohaku, who remembered everything about Naraku and had found peace. Miroku talking to his dad on the other side of Sango.  The children held a rope that was tied around Kagura’s waist. Everyone had figured the wind witch was the better choice in guarding the children. It wasn’t long before Inu Yasha could tell the humans were getting tired. Knowing there was a watering hole and a clearing easily defended ahead he took the lead and led everyone off their path. The women set to starting dinner and chatting while the men stood back and watched making sure there were no dangers in the area. “Shippo, Rin, why don’t you help the brats and go play in the water for a bit. You all smell.” Inu Yasha bit off, his arms hidden in his robes.“We do not baka-yasha, you just don’t like us smelling like Kagome now that she’s gone.” Shippo and Shisuki fired back together. “Kagome didn’t want to leave, but shit happens you little brats. Now I said to bathe.”The cleaning was silent in Inu Yasha’s anger. Izayoi stood from her place tending the fire. She nudged a couple of the children to the water and gathered them around her.
“Inu Yasha will be alright when we get back to the castle. Everyone is upset children.” Patting the head of a whimpering Athena, Izayoi continued. “Kagome wanted me to tell you all the truth. So why don’t you get out of your clothes and get in the water and while you play I’ll tell you what she said.”“How do you know what Momma said when you didn’t talk to her?” It was an innocent question from one of the younger hanyou but many agreed.“Because Kagome is still here with us, she just doesn’t have her body and it is hard to see her.”“Lady Izayoi has always been able to talk to those no one sees.” Inu no Tashio said placing a hand on his mate’s shoulder. “Now come on get in the water.” Once all the children had climbed into the water and were holding onto the edge of the hole Izayoi began. “Kagome, Sesshomaru and Inu Yasha went to Mt. Hakuri to bring us back because that is what the Gods wished. Well it takes a lot of energy to open the portal between worlds and provide life to 5 long dead adults. Kagome knew this but she was selfless in her pursuit, she knew that others were in pain and those of us coming back could heal that pain. She wants you all to know she loves you and will watch over you and not give up with things seems like they are falling apart.”“Momma always told me that.” Shippo floated on his back heartbroken but feeling better.”“Its not anyone’s fault Kagome went to sleep, because she only sleeps to get her strength back, she isn’t gone forever.”
Kagome watched from the tree line watching Izayoi’s back. The children were playing in the water. Leaning on the tree next to her she crossed her arms. It wasn’t until Izayoi stood up and left the children to play at Kagome nodded as a thank you. Izayoi smiled and nodded back. Looking at the camp both women watched standing together. “You might wanna tell someone there is a sleeping demon in the watering hole. I doubt it will hurt the children since it is only a turtle demon but things seem to grow out of proportion here.”“Alright, I will let someone know. How are you doing?”“Talked to Sesshomaru, but I’m exhausted. I had to write in the dirt but he knows I’m here. I don’t have any energy left, he’s going to have to wait for a while before I can do anything again. That and if I want to wake up on time then I need to save everything I can.”“Your energy stores are not why you wake up, it is something else, but I could not tell you the trigger even if I knew.”“Figures. So it really does take 20 years to figure out the trigger? I feel like I’m in a shitty princess movie.”“I do not understand.”“Don’t worry about it.” Kagome waved it off still thinking of Sleeping Beauty and Snow White.“Will you remain her the rest of the night or are you going back to Sesshomaru?”“Sesshomaru is on his way to the castle. I’ll hang around here and keep guard until you all get to the castle safely.”Both women were so into their conversation they failed to notice the naked hanyou child coming towards them. Kagome looked down as something passed through her. Looking down at her son whom had woke her up only that morning. “Can you see me baby?” Kagome asked kneeling just a little ways back from him. The boy nodded and sucked his thumb. “Izayoi, I know dinner won’t be ready for a while, why don’t you go get my backpack and give each of the children a sucker, Sango will help you. If anyone says otherwise I think I have enough power to help you out.”The little hanyou looked at her with wide eyes, standing Kagome ushered the boy after the woman. The boy reached out trying to take his mother’s hand but failed. “I’m sorry Baby, you heard Izayoi. I’m not really here.” The boy looked like he was about to cry but Kagome knelt again. “You’ll see me at the castle okay? Once I get enough strength built up we can play or something.”  The boy nodded silently and Kagome ushered him towards Izayoi. As expected Inu Yasha threw a fit at the idea of the kids getting candy, “I don’t care, the brats don’t deserve it.”Kagome rubbed the bridge of her nose wondering what she could do. Izayoi looked over her shoulder and Kagome caught the laughter in her eyes. Sango was arguing with Inu Yasha as Kagome finally gathered her mind. “This better work, because if it doesn’t I’m going to learn to bend fire and set his hair on fire.” The hanyou child at her knees snorted while Izayoi hid her laugh with her hand. Gathering herself and a thread of power that floated around her, Kagome yelled the one word she hoped would help everyone. “SIT.”The beads around Inu Yasha’s neck glowed accepting the thread of power from Kagome before drawing the hanyou face first into the waiting ground. The silence was immediate. Izayoi looked over her shoulder and shrugged. Kagome shrugged knowing she would have to wait a minute for the thread to build before she could utter the word again. The hanyou boy looked up at his mom. Slowly pulled he’s thumb from his mouth and smiled up at Kagome. “Funny, gain.” Kagome smiled down at the boy and laid a hand on his head knowing it wouldn’t touch him. “Not right now baby. Momma’s tired.” The boy seemed to accept the answer and went to retrieve his sucker. “Kagome damn it, even now your torturing me.” Inu Yasha pulled himself off the ground.“I’d sit,” Kagome began her threat but at the word Inu Yasha hit the ground again, “you again and I guess it works.” “Are you ok Kagome? You look tired.” Izayoi called standing from her place sitting after all the children’s treats were handed out. “Tell him he better be nice to the pups.” But before Izayoi could translate the pup back at Kagome side yelled across the clearing. “Momma say be nice to pups.”  Everyone snapped their attention to the pup placing the sucker in his mouth. “Very good baby.” Kagome sat down on the ground and the boy followed her lead. “Do you have a name?”“Too little.”“Oh no baby, you’re not too little. You are just the right age for a name. Do you have a name you want or do you want me to name you?”“Riku.” He sounded stubborn in his choice. “Riku? Alright.” Kagome smiled and nodded liking the name. Izayoi walked over and smiled down at the two. “Riku. It is fitting.” They knew nothing of the pup but didn’t mind accepting the name.
Inu Yasha pulled himself out of the hole he had made from the second sit command. Whatever was going on wasn’t funny. “Someone better start talking.” He turned on his mother and the pup almost snarling. The pup looked up at his mother, but to everyone else he was looking up the tree. “Alright pup you wanna play innocent, we’ll no one is fooled.” Inu Yasha cracked in knuckles and stepped heavily towards the two sitting in the grass. “Momma.” The pup cried trying to climb into Kagome’s lap but only managed to dig up the grass. “Inu Yasha stop. He’s still a baby.” Sango hurried to intercept the angry hanyou but back pedaled when she caught sight of his red tinted eyes and faded markings. Kagome watched in horror as her best-friend began to transform in front of her. Kagome stood and braced with her feet. “Kagome you can’t do anything you don’t have the power!” Izayoi grabbed the scrambling pup and held him to her chest trying to calm the boy. “Inu Yasha come back to me.” However when he kept coming Kagome panicked. Energy started flooding her body from the wildlife around. Inu Yasha was inches away from her and almost touching when she flashed into existence and then out. The split second jerked Inu Yasha out of his rage, stumbling back and onto the ground his eyes wide in fear. “Kagome, you have to calm down.” Izayoi warned looking around to see many of the trees wilting and plants dying.Kagome looked around at the reaction. Fear flooded her at the sight of so many dying plants that she ran. Talking fifteen or so steps Kagome disappeared altogether from  the clearing. “MOMMA!” Riku screamed after Kagome. He pushed off of the woman holding and rushed Inu Yasha who was pale white still sitting on the ground. The boy hit Inu Yasha and pounded his chest screaming and crying. “Bring her back. Bring her back.” Inu Yasha finally realized he was being beat up by a child when said child began trying to claw his eyes out. Inu Yasha grabbed the boy and held him tightly whispering in his ear something that no one could hear. Finally when Sango announced dinner was done Inu Yasha pushed the pup away and they nodded to each other. All the other children seemed too shocked to bother acting out. They too had seen the ghost image of their mother but they were confused as to what was going on.
Kagome sat on the edge of a stream, miles from her family crying into her knees. She was curled into a ball looking over the water. She could hear the waterfall further up the stream and had a momentary thought of throwing herself off the top but realized she wouldn’t die considering she was already a ghost. “This sucks grass.” Kagome sniffled. “I want my body back. I want everything to be normal. I don’t want to be stuck like this for 20 years.” Almost screaming Kagome choked back a sob and coughed the mucus from her throat.
Sesshomaru lay his mate’s body on their bed, her hair lying hazardously everywhere in a mess. Her moonlight skin was sickly white now that the blood had slowed and she had frozen in time. Sesshomaru placed a barrier over the bed itself and then another one around the room. Kissing her neck Sesshomaru left in a storm to raid the library for anything to wake his mate.
