Chapter 4~Getting Ready!

~~~Kagome got dressed for her night out so to speak with her new niebor Kyoto. As she applied foundation, concealer and anything else that would help hide the bruise on her eye and lessen the look of her busted lip, she thought back to that afternoon, about an hour after she had helped Kyoto with the computer. She had heard a knock on her door yet again and went to see who it was. It was Rinny and she immediatly opened the door and let her in. Her eyes were puffy, showing she had been crying.

"Please Gome?? Please lend me the money??" Rin had cried. Kagome had sighed. She didnt want to go threw this. She never liked seeing her sister cry, and it was difficult to tell her no when she came to her like the little girl she once was, the little girl Kagome had always tried to protect from the sight of her mother being beaten, from her fathers wrath upon them.

"Rinny we already discussed this." Kagome replied, trying to sound stern against her sisters tears.

"How can you be sooo mean to me Gome?? You dont understand Hiten like I do, you dont even know him well enough to judge him, I love him and need him and I have to get him out of jail...please?? you promised to always help me Gome..you promised!" Rin cried louder as she threw herself into Kagome's chest and cried her heart out. Kagome held her and started to cry herself. She had made a promise a long time ago to do everything in her power to make sure her sister never cried again. How could she turn her away now? How could she say no? Her mind was shouting at her to be firm, that Hiten didnt deserve someone as special as her sister, but her heart was telling her to stop Rins tears, to give her the money and see the smile on her face again. Her heart won and she gave Rin her emergency cash. Rin had thanked her profusely and left the apartment to go straight down to the jail house to bail Hiten out. In her desperation and then happiness she hadnt seen Kagome's face or registered it, which Kagome was gratefull for.

~~~Now she was covering said bruises up as best she could while thinking of what the heck she was going to do now. She had been planning to use the emergency cash to pay her rent and pay her bills with her paycheck but it looked like she wasnt going to be able to do that. She had been fired, thanks to Hojo, with out working her full two weeks and her check would be really really small. There was no way she would be able to pay her rent, pay her bills and buy food. And there was no way she would go to her mother and step father and ask for money. They worked hard and barely made it as it was, with just a little left over to save for thier retirement. She was an adult and had to solve this on her own. But how? Just then a knock came to her door and she got up and opened it without looking threw the peep hole, she just assumed it was Kyoto coming to get her for thier night out. Oh how wrong she was.

"Hello beautifull...made yourself beautifull for me did you?" came the smooth, overly sweet voice of Hojo. Kagome tried to shut the door in his face, but he put half his body threw the door before she could close it and let himself in. Then shut the door.

"Get out!" she hissed threw clentched teeth.

"Now now love is that the way to talk to the man who you love?" he asked as he pulled her into his arms and gave her a bruising kiss. Kagome whimpered at the new pain on her split lip.

"Get away from me! and I dont love you Hojo, get that threw your head!" she said as she pushed herself out of his arms.

"Of course you love me..your just mad at me right now for what happened..I told you I was sorry Kagome..you know I love you and would never hurt you.."

"You did and have.."

"I didnt mean to love, if you would have just listened..you know I have a temper Kagome and Im very sorry for what happened..please forgive me sweetheart?" he replied in his all too smooth and hypnotic voice. But Kagome was immune to him now, he didnt have the power over her he once did.

"Get out!!!..." she demanded. He took one step towards her then stopped.

"Who did you dress up for Kagome?" he asked in a tone that was so calm, and one Kagome had heard often enough to know it was not good.

"No one."

"Your lying."

"No im not..Im just going out to dinner with a girl friend of mine." she explained, not that she thought he had the right to know, but last time he thought she was even looking at a guy, he had beaten her so bad she couldnt move for a week.

"What friend?? you dont have any friends." he replied coldly.

"Yes I do, you didnt chase all of them away Hojo..Sango is still my friend, even after all the things you did to make me push her away, she stayed by my side." Kagome retorted angerly. She had once had lots of friends. But Hojo had been so jealous and had hardly left her side when they were dating. Little by little, with out her really realizing it, he had gotten her to push away her own friends and made it so that the only people she knew were his friends. Friends loyal to him, people who wouldnt lift one finger to help her against him all those times he had hurt her.

"So your going out with Sango?" he asked with a lifted eyebrow.

"Yes." She lied, not wanting to explain her new neighbor and have him go balistic and believe her nieghbor might in fact be a male and all that stuff. Plus she just wanted him to leave, espcially before Kyoto came or he did anything to her.

"Hmmmm..alright..I will see you later then?" he said, giving her a look that told her he didnt believe her for a moment but wasnt going to argue with her right now, just in case. Sango didnt like him, he didnt like her and he avoided her with a passion, cause frankly if Sango wanted to she could kick his ass and would at the drop of a dime.

"Before I go I wanted to give you this." he added as he was about to turn around to leave. Kagome tensed. He smiled smugly and slid his hand in his coat jacket and pulled out an envelope. He handed it her but she refused to take it.

"What is it?" she asked, eyeing it like it were a snake.

"Money..my way of apologizing for getting you fired again..I know you dont have the money to pay the rent and the bills so I want to make it up to you." he smirked and Kagome growled.

"I dont want it." she hissed. She would freeze in hell before she ever accepted anything from him, especially money.

"I said take it." he retorted more forcefully as he grabbed her hand and shoved the envelope in it. He crushed her hand around it as he pulled her to the door and opened it, not wanting her to let it go, sure she would take it once he was gone. If he knew anything about women it was that none of them could turn down his wealth and the gifts he gave them.

~~~Once at the door he let her go and started to walk down the stairs leading to the first floor. To his surprise he felt something hit his head as he deccended the fourth step. It was the envelope. He stared back up at Kagome and gave her a death glare.

"I told you I dont want it and I am not one of your whores you can pay off..I would rather sleep in a cardboard box in the alley then accept anything from you Hojo and as Ive already told you, dont come near me again..we are over, have been for a long time now, so get a clue and get the hint and just leave me alone." she stated as she turned around and went into her apartment shuting the door and bolting it behind her. Hojo was about to go and bang on her door and teach her a lesson when he heard the door from the apartment next to hers open. He didnt like nosey neighbors and wasnt in the mood to bribe one into being quiet if they saw to much. His dad had already told him that if he caused one more disturbance that might bring shame to the family he would disown him. He quickly went down the steps and out of the apartment complex before anyone could see him. He didnt know that he had been seen already. The moment he had come to Kagome's door, Kyoto had watched and listened. She had seen the look on Hojo's face when Kagome tossed the money back to him and did the only thing she could think of to keep Hojo from Kagome. She knew Hojo didnt like spectators. She had been right. She smiled at the realization that Kagome had a back bone and had refused the money Hojo had offered. It made her more convinced that Kagome was innocent in all this mess.
