From demons to dementors
Before they left the shrine Souta explained to their grandfather that he was no longer going to study to become a monk, he had decided that it would be best if he focused his attention on his wizard studies. Brokenhearted their grandfather accepted it saying that it would be his downfall and how monks are better that wizards but it was a lost cause. Besides he practically forgot all about it when Kagome said that she had full miko training in the past and that she would take over the family shrine in Souta's absence.
He almost had a heart attack he was so happy, clapping her on the back and saying how he always knew she would take over the family business an make their ancestors proud. The next day they were back in the shed alone, with her grandfather giving kagome armfuls of trinkets from the shrine for good luck (and to help the shrines publicity over in England) afterward he rustled around in the attic for some thing while kagome and souta finished packing. Later a dinner that day he came down stairs with an armful of red and white material
“kagome I want to wear this over in England frequently, ok?” he shook it out and produced a full miko's garb in the traditional red and white. On the right side of the chest was the Higurashi crest. Kagome flinched seeing the red and white and didn't know what to say or how to say it other than
“no”
“what…what do you mean no?” her grandfather stuttered
“no I cant wear that” she said pointing to the red and white cloth
“why!” her grandfather whined
“one- because that is not the colors of my caste and two- my last name is no longer Higurashi so I can not wear the Higurashi crest” kagome closed her eyes and waited for the silence to pass
“what color do you wear then? And what do you mean you last name is no longer Higurashi! The only way to change a last name it to get married…..ah..oh!” her grandfather had gone completely still.
“I'll go get one of my miko robes” kagome said quietly, Less than a minute later she came down wearing something black and crimson.
“this” she said pointing to her self “is my colors”
“red and black?...but that is the colors of a corrupted miko…only an evil and twisted miko may wear those colors! Granddaughter what in kami's name are you doing wearing that!” he was afraid, afraid for his granddaughter, afraid of the answer, afraid of the truth
“yes grandfather, I know” was all she said on the subject
“this” she said pointing to her right breast “is my crest” it was silver and black and had a large dog sprawled at the bottom and two great swords crossed as if in battle over it's head “my name is of little importance anymore” she patted the crest fondly
“well, I ….ah….” was all he could muster then he dismissed him self to go and write up the documents and such putting Kagome's name on every thing. Now they were in a taxi on their way to the Tokyo airport to fly to London, England. Paying the cab driver they grabbed a bite to eat at the airport, Souta had a sub but Kagome wouldn't touch any of it.
“come on Kagome you've got to eat some thing!” Souta pleaded
“Souta I didn't survive countless dangers in feudal Japan just to come back and get killed by a sandwich!” she hissed
“but Kagome its good” he insisted, taking a bite to prove his point
“ugh! Do you know what that's made of? Huh? Aghhh I can smell the chemicals from here, it's disgusting!” she said picking up her trunks
“come on Souta its time to board the plane” she walked to their terminal. Souta shoved the rest of the sub in his mouth and ran to catch up with her.
“mold owwwn kagohomeeee” he yelled, spitting food every where.
“ughhh Souta take smaller bites, chew with your mouth closed and lastly please try not to yell with food in your mouth” she glared wiping the spit and food off her face (AN- ok raise you hands, who has a brother like that….(raises hand) ugh it's disgusting!)
“boarding rows 10 through 15, I repeat boarding rows 10 through 15 please start boarding the air plane” the lady with the mike said in a falsely happy voice.
“that's us” Souta said after swallowing the huge clump of food in his mouth.
“ugh if I have to give you the Heimlich I will be very unhappy” Kagome ran ahead on to the plane, Souta was not far behind laughing all the way. Once they were on the plane and settled in their seats they talked while the pilot went over the safety procedures.
“so Kagome what's it like being back in modern clothing?” Souta asked. Kagome sighed and pulled at her shirt
“ I hate it! How can you move in it? It's constricting and it doesn't breath also it doesn't offer any protection I don't know how I did it way back when” Kagome shifted trying to find a comfortable spot in her small seat. She was wearing baggy cargos, with a dark, forest green preppy tee and a small zipper up dark brown sweat shirt, lastly she had on a pair of brown sneakers. Souta just smiled
“well I don't have a billion knives all over my body” he whispered. Kagome just made an un ladylike snort
“hardly a billion, but close” she winked
“someone's in a playful mood” Souta smirked
“humph I will deny it entirely” she smiled
“I bet” Souta smiled back this is a side of Kagome that no one will ever see, it's a lot like the old Kagome but different, too bad no one else will understand her like I do, they will just see her cold, emotionless side. Hmmm maybe she will let them see a bit of the old her ……maybe they will understand ………I doubt it he sighed.
“hey Kagome how did you get past customs with all your poisons, knives, swords and other sharp pointy objects you keep hidden on you?” he wondered. Kagome smirked
“no one sees what I don't want them to see, just like no one knows what I don't want them to know” she winked. Souta opened his mouth to retort when the pilot came on the speaker.
“this is air Japan going one way to London, England non stop so please buckle you seat belts and prepare for take off in a few short minutes, we hope you enjoy the flight”
“are you ready Kagome? This is your first time on a plane” Souta smiled.
“if I can ride a two headed dragon I can ride a silly air plane” Kagome smirked inwardly first! Pah this is hardly my first plane ride…but he'll never know that she smiled as her evil villain laugh came next in her mind.
“you're crazy” the female voice frowned inside her in her head, watching the “dream” Kagome laugh evilly while fire erupted around her
“probably” she smirked again
“that's not a good thing” the male voice also watched the dream kagome laugh
“depends on who you ask”
“what was that Kagome?” Souta asked worried when she started talking to her self and grinning like a madman.
“hmmm I was just thinking aloud is all” she mumbled and the plane started to take off.
“here we go” Souta smiled, still anxious to introduce Kagome to his new friends.
“so when do I get to meet this Voldermort guy? Kagome asked eagerly.
“hopefully not too soon, you still have to meet all the good guys” Souta smiled
“damn!” Kagome looked disappointed
“and you have to gain their trust” Kagome burst out laughing
“I ….I have to gain their….their trust! Hahahahahahahah this is too much” Kagome snorted and wiped her eyes.
“this is too good” she sighed
“remember to be on your best behavior” Souta scolded like a mother would a child.
“yes mother!” Kagome's eyes flashed red
“that means no killing any one…ok Kagome” Souta frowned at Kagome's eyes. She just smirked again but this time it was a different kind of smirk, this one had ill intentions attached to it.
“promise me you won't kill any one other than Voldermort and his minions” Souta said seriously
“ I promise I won't kill……….much” Kagome laughed as Souta sighed
“I don't know if it's safe to introduce you to the UK” he eyed her evil look, he could tell she was thinking of fighting Voldermort.
“just try to be careful Kagome, I don't want to lose you to one powerful, crazy, homicidal, perverted guy when I just got you back from one” he smiled when Kagome leaned over and hugged him.
“don't worry Souta I'll try not to let any thing happen to me” she tucked his messy bangs behind his ears in one of those few moments she had when she seemed truly happy.
But I cant promise anything she thought sadly Deciding she had had enough drama she pulled away and smiled
“he won't know what the hell hit him!” she cracked her knuckles and did a very Inuyasha like grin.
“yes, yes Kagome he will regret the day he messed with Kagome Higurashi's little brother” he tried to look annoyed but failed miserably, inside he was bursting with pride and love for his sister.
“damn strait!” she smiled and looked out the window at the passing clouds. The plane, still rising, broke through the clouds to level out above a carpet of white fluff. I never get tired of this sight…and to think it hasn't changed all these years, not one bit, it's still the same ocean of cotton candy as far as the eye can see. Hmmm how peaceful…… were one of Kagome's last thoughts as she slowly closed her eyes and fell into a light asleep knowing that this would be the last she would see of Japan for a long time.
AN- next stop…..London, England! Watch out UK, Kagome's coming to town and it isn't going to be pretty.
