Rin pushed at her salad with a heavy weight on her heart. Sesshomaru shared his immortality with her and for almost 40 years they had been trying to have a child, she didn't know her fear of his sword was keeping them from a family. “She's probably right. Hell even Inu Yasha is right. We owe Kagome a lot and this is how we repay her? I think we need up face up to our fears, Kagome lived in the streets for years and she's facing everything without a flinch. And here we are rich and famous. Inu Yasha is a business man and a mayor, he should know these kind of things, but here, even him, is so far in the dark he is past blind. We all are. Sesshomaru when we get home I want to have a one on one with tensaga.” She stood up and ran out to hopefully catch up with her bother and sister-in law.

Now:

Kagome stomped out of the dinner. Her appetite was lost now. Turning the corner she headed back to the apartment in hopes of getting her armor, weapons and a bike to go out and patrol. She listened and prayed that she would sense that one call that would take her far away from the drama of this new life. It was more then she wanted at the moment but it was too late to turn back. Tracing her steps back the way they had come Kagome felt the familiar energy as her mate caught up to her. Kagome looked to her side and then back down the sidewalk. People pushed at her body as they made their way to work or lunch. New York sucked at this time. Taking a right down some random street not so interested in getting back too soon, Kagome waited for Inu Yasha to push his way to her.

“Your lucky I didn't do what I was thinking when we were at the dinner.” She said to stop the silence.

“And why is that?”
”You're a moron. I was trying to make up a lie so I could do my mission and have few questions, but no you and your dad had to go and bring up stupid stuff.” Kagome looked up at the sky and watched the clouds as she strolled down the almost empty sidewalk.

“I didn't know, I'm sorry but it didn't even cross my mind. Naraku isn't as important as you are. This change to you is still new. It's not a good idea to go out on a mission right now. Besides I can wait.” Inu Yasha touched her shoulder and Kagome looked back.

“I have people to kill, and to do that I'll take any mission given to me. Getting a bunch of stupid papers for my boss for some business is a petty mission but sneaking into that office, might just give me the smallest hint to some big gang leader. If it makes you feel better I'll take Ayame.” Kagome turned into an alley and continued her stroll.

“I'd feel better if you too the US Military, but I doubt you would. I also have this feeling that Ayame will be just a scout from the distance while you get down and dirty.”
Kagome lead them back to a busy sidewalk. She took a moment to look at a newspaper stand before grabbing a paper and pushing it at Inu Yasha. She then continued walking.

“I'll be back at the apartment later.” She called disappearing into the crowd. Not even the silver of her hair stood out.

Inu Yasha looked down at the paper she had pushed at him. The biggest headline followed by a slightly smaller one read: Mayor adopts whore bodyguard. Should New York be worried?. Underneath it had blurry pictures.

“Sir, are you going to buy that?” The merchant asked again slightly annoyed.

“Huh? Oh um yes.” Inu Yasha stumbled to pull out a dollar to give to the man.

Deciding it was time to head back and talk to his friends and brother about this new twist, Inu Yasha headed for his apartment.

Kagome sat down on the edge on top of a building. She had taken the fire escape to avoid being seen. Having no doubt that Inu Yasha was already back at their apartment with who knew who else. It wasn't the headlines that bugged her; let people think what they wanted. No, what bugged her was those pictures were to close to be from across the street, and they had been blurred for a reason. She was being watched, very closely too.

Kagome sat there for another hour before she felt a power flare behind her. Turning lazily she caught sight of lightning streaking across the now cloudless sky.

“Can't say that's a new one.” Standing and brushing herself off kagome jumped to closer from the sight of the lightning.

Two men stood in the street, one fat and balding while the other was taller and obliviously the leader. The street was empty, thankfully, of any life but the two. Kagome sat down on the top of the building she was on and watched.

“Look the boss said to make a bunch of noise, blow some stuff up and he'll show. So stop whining and do as your told.” The taller one ordered. The short one pouted a second cried and whined then set to work bashing up things. Sound rumbled around Kagome but she wasn't to interested in the thunder by in the lightning the taller one seemed to wield to gracefully.

“So who is suppose to come again big brother?” The fat one asked.

“Some ghost of a person that is scaring off the help. He is some great warrior. Tall and handsome. Boss wants him dead. Like stone dead.” The older one informed.

Kagome watched the two men wildly destroy windows, sidewalks and the road. It was making a mess but it wasn't like anyone lived over here. The houses were boarded up and about ready to be pulled down for bigger and better things. The road was already full of weeds and grass. The sidewalk was so uneven already the destruction made it look better.

Bored of watching Kagome stood. Still deciding if she should stop them or not she decided to let them go at it. In the long run it was cheaper for the city to let them bring the buildings down and tear up everything. The sun was setting and the streetlights were flickering on.

“It's been fun watching boys, later.” She called before walking away. Not sure if they heard or not, not that she cared, she jumped to the next building and made her way back to her mate.

“Hey bitch!” Kagome looked over her shoulder. The taller one was breathing hard and the fat one even harder. “Who are you?”
”Don't matter.” Kagome boredly continued.

“You put your nose where it don't belong mutt and for that we're going to have to kill you.” The taller one formed a spear of lightning and threw it at her. Kagome watched it come closer then stop.

“WHAT!?” Both men looked surprised as the spear stopped.

Kagome held her shield in place barely fazed. “I'm sorry, but you got boring. Two hours of blowing up a demolition site, real big. Whoop dee do.” Extending her barrier Sh

e pushed the spear back to the man who threw it. “Think you'll want this back.” She dropped the barrier and the spear fell to the ground. Turning Kagome walked towards the setting sun.

Inu Yasha paced waiting for his mate to come back. She had been gone for almost four hours. Sesshomaru and Koga were scheduling a press conference to hopefully clear up the mess the newspapers had made. Sango, Rin and Miroku had gone to fetch his brothers, and Koga's swords along with Miroku's staff and Sango's Herikotsu.

Shippo had been introduced to Kohaku, Sango's brother, and both we're helping Inu Tashio make dinner. Ginta and Hakou sat on the couch watching Tv.

The door opened and Kagome stepped in. Her clothes were burnt and beneath them were burns. Her hair was matted and slightly singed.

“Hey guys.” She greeted. “I'm going to get a shower. Something smells great.” She smiled and kissed her mate before disappearing down the hall.

“Was that Kagome?” Koga asked as a figure retreated down the hall.

Inu Yasha stood stunned as Kagome seemed to appear then disappear. Coming out of shock he dashed down the hall and into his room. The water was running in the bathroom and he quickly burst in. Pulling back the door to the shower he exposed a very naked Kagome. Her skin was burned and blistered. Soap and shampoo slowly trickled down her creamy skin. Inu Yasha wet his mouth as Kagome turned and looked at him giving her a prize smile.

“Hey handsome, you wanna join?” She giggled and played with her hair.

Inu Yasha stared at her, his hours of worrying left him dumbfounded at the moment. Here was his mate, in the shower sexier then ever inviting him to join her, and all he could think of was how much he loved her.

Kagome smiled as his head nodded slightly, She quickly made work of getting rid of his clothes and pulled him in with her. The water snapped him out of his daze. Embracing Kagome in a hug he took a deep breath talking in every scent that was all her.

Kagome laughed and threaded her hands into his hair and pressed her body closer to his.

“I was so scared something happened to you.” He admitted.

“I'm sorry, just everything seemed to be piling up and I needed to think. I didn't think I would get into a fight or be out so long. I'm sorry I made you worry. What can I do to make it up to you?” She whispered the last into his ear.

Inu Yasha sputter at her words. He wasn't use to her being so forward. He wasn't thinking either that fucking her hard would be punishment or make things any better, but his demon was thinking different.

Kagome noticed the red flicker in her mate's eyes at the same time she felt his aura change. The shower seemed to disappear all at once and she soon found her soaking body on their bed with her hanyou not full demon above her.

“Where is my mate?” He snarled. Claws pressed against her skin.

With the real Kagome

Kagome drug herself from the last of the rubble. Some flash of light had blinded her at the end of the fight when she had purified the last Thunder Brother.

She hurt and she was stiff. Almost regretting not dodging the last hit, but it had given her the break she needed. The sun was now just a red horizon.

“I'm going to be in so much trouble.” She whimpered.

Back with Inu Yasha

The demon hanyou pulled the copy by the hair into the living room not caring on bit that she had no clothes on and he only a towel. Koga, Sesshomaru, Ayame, Inu Tashio, and Rin watched not sure what to do.

“You stupid bitch.” The demon snarled. It was with those words that the other men in the room stepped up.

“Inu Yasha calm down.” Koga hedged.

Inu Yasha snarled at the wolf and threw the copy Kagome into the wall. “Where is my mate?!” He roared. Leaping he cornered the copy.

Kagome

Kagome heard a thunk against the wall as she came out of the elevator. Just as she opened the door a roar echoed down the wall.

Running she burst into the apartment to see her friends and her mate all looking at her and them she saw…herself?
