Tapping his fingers on his desk, Terrance shifted the phone to his right ear as he leaned back in his leather chair. A click sounded through the phone as it connected. Immediately, Terrance sat up.
“Yes?” the male voice on the other line asked in English. It was evident the man wasn't in the mood for chit-chatting.
“Ah, this is Terrance Oliver. I was wondering if you got my message.” It wasn't until he heard himself speaking that he realized how rusty his English was. I really need to get out of this damn country.
“Oliver? Hold on.” There was an agonizingly long wait as silence followed. Terrance ran his tongue over his lips anxiously. “Yeah, I have it right here.”
“Did you read it?”
“I did now.”
“And…?” Terrace pressed, annoyed at how little the other was saying.
“And what?” the other man asked as if truly clueless about what was asked of him.
“What do you think?”
“What I think is you found me a kid who is good with math… that is, if what you said is to be believed.”
“You doubt me?” Terrance asked, shocked.
“I doubt everyone, its part of my job.”
“I'm telling you, this kid is the real deal. He did that math problem in seconds, all in his head too.”
“So the kid can do some parlor trick, congratulations. I have a calculator that can do the same thing. What he did was simple stuff. Advanced mathematics is a completely different ballgame.”
“I know that, but this at least warrants farther investigation right?” Silence answered him. “Right?” he pressed.
“Yes, it does.” Terrance smiled, keeping silent as he threw his fist up in victory. “I will send someone. Expect them this week.”
“Tha—” There was a click as the phone went dead. Frowning, Terrance looked at the phone before placing it back on the base. He looked back down at the open folder before him, his smile slowly returning. Thank you Inuyasha! If all goes well, you get your trip out of here and I head back to the States that much closer to retirement…
********************************************
Kagome didn't bother trying to wake Inuyasha. For the first time, his door seemed an impenetrable wall that sealed him off from the rest of the world. Two years ago, there wasn't a wall strong enough to keep them apart. It amazed and frightened her at how quickly this one had appeared. Inuyasha had always lagged behind her, whether it was school, sports, anything. As such, she had always taken it upon her self to support him, help him so that he would never be too far behind. She was beginning to feel as if this entire thing was her fault. Once she had entered high school, she had flourished. She made lots of new friends; she tried a handful of clubs, started dating and other things that generally kept her busy. While she always made sure to make time for Inuyasha as well, it was nowhere near the amount she had spent before.
She shook her head. I can't think like that. It was true that she supported him, but she couldn't support him forever. Sooner or later, he would have to be able to do what he needed to do without her. No, I'm not at fault for this… what I am at fault for is not seeing this… Maybe it was because she had always taken his silent presence for granted. The situation now only proved that their relationship was a two way street. Inuyasha supported her in his own way just as much as she supported him. It was as if the wall she had been leaning against disappeared without warning. It was uncomfortable, frightening and worse still, lonely.
Taking a deep breath, she pushed the thoughts from her head. She needed to do something to get her mind off of things. Picking up her cell phone, she pressed the speed dial for Sango.
“Hey you,” Sango answered immediately. Like always, Sango answered so quickly, it made her wonder if her phone was physically wired into her body.
“Hey, I was wondering if you wanted to go shopping today.”
“Of course, you have great timing too! I just got my allowance.”
“Awesome, I guess meet at the usual station then?”
“I'll see you in ten.” Kagome closed her cell phone, chewing her bottom lip gently as she thought. Moving over to the mirror, she did a quick check to see that her outfit was in order. Satisfied, she made sure her money was in her purse. Surprisingly, there was more in it than she had thought. Mom must have slipped more in… Giving her mother silent thanks, she left her room, casting a sorrowful look down the hall at Inuyasha's before heading down the stairs towards the front door. On her way, she attempted to contact Kikyo only to get her voicemail. Sighing, she slipped her cell phone into her jeans pocket and headed out the door.
For how depressing her house seemed, the weather outside was enough to quickly wash the gloominess that lingered after her. The sun was out, it was a comfortable temperature, and a soft breeze brought the smell of fresh bread from the bakery that had opened down the street.
It was a quick walk to the station. She leaned up against the wall near their usual meeting place. She had her head down, as if fascinated by the cement below her. The last thing she wanted to do was make eye contact with anyone. She was thankful when Sango finally showed up. Even with her best efforts at staying inconspicuous, it didn't stop several men from taking passes at her. What really disturbed her was that two had been old enough to be her father.
“Men are such pigs,” Kagome said as they entered the train, the doors sliding closed behind them. While she normally would have been far too embarrassed saying something aloud with so many men around, the irritation from the pick-up attempts was still fresh in her mind.
“What's this all of a sudden?” Sango said, slightly amused. “Let me guess? Some guy tried to pick you up.” Kagome nodded, crossing her arms. Sango laughed. “What do you expect? It's Saturday. Lots of people have the day off and are looking for something to do.”
“Yeah, but usually they don't do it in the middle of the day.” Sango shrugged.
“I don't think time matters. I get hit on all the time when I'm by myself.” She thought for a moment, tapping her chin with an index finger. “Maybe we should wear a big sign that says, `taken?'”
Kagome laughed. It felt good as the stress that had been building up was finally released.
“So, you have anywhere special you want to go or are we just going to wander around?”
“I was just planning to wander around a bit. I do need to get something for Inuyasha though.”
“Ah right, birthday, I almost forgot about that.” She smiled as Kagome puffed out her cheeks. “I said `almost' didn't I?”
“I was about to say, I remembered yours.”
Laughing, the two girls got off at the next station. Walking into the massive shopping district, their conversation took a life of its own. Going from school to boyfriends to whatever else came to mind. It was a refreshing change of pace from the worries that awaited her at home.
Slowly, their arms grew heavier as the bags steadily increased. While neither of their parents were necessarily rich, they made enough to make lavish shopping trips like these possible every once in awhile.
Spotting their next target, Kagome quickly dragged the reluctant Sango inside.
“Come on,” Kagome said, tugging on her friends arm as they entered the store. “Don't tell me that you don't need anything from here.” Sango's face was completely red as she looked around at the lingerie on display. Kagome suppressed a smile as she watched Sango's reaction. God, she acts like such a boy when it comes to this. Her envious eyes automatically fell on Sango's breasts. If only mine were as big as hers…
“Welcome,” the woman employee said, moving towards them. “Is there anything I can help you with?”
“N-n-no thank you. W-we are just l-looking,” Sango stammered. Kagome almost lost it as she disguised her chuckle with a cough.
“Of course, if you have any questions or need help with anything, I'll be more than happy to help,” the woman said, smiling.
“Thank you,” Kagome said, leading the embarrassed Sango deeper into the store.
“I hate these places,” Sango complained, looking around as though someone was going to pop out and attack her.
“Relax, jeez, you and your irrational fear of something so necessary.”
“Really though… I'm fine…”
“Fine huh? Tell me, when was the last time you went shopping for this stuff?” When Sango didn't answer, Kagome slowly nodded, already knowing the answer. “Right, last time I took you. That was,” she counted on her fingers. “Uh… way too long ago.” She lowered her voice as she leaned in closer. “Besides… don't you want to buy something sexy for Miroku?”
Sango grew really red at that. Smiling, Kagome moved away and began her search. Selecting several things, she returned to find Sango was still empty handed. At Kagome's stare, Sango let out a sigh of surrender and pulled something from the rack.
“Yeah, and that will fit you the day I wake up a man,” Kagome said, eyeing the size as Sango looked it over.
“But this is the same size as the ones I'm wearing…” Kagome shook her head slowly, resisting the urge to strangle her friend. God! The ones that are too small for her are bigger than mine…
“Well, you have grown a little…” Kagome said, looking down at her friends' chest.
“Really?” Sango asked, cupping them. “I guess it has been getting tighter…”
Rub it in why don't you. Instead of wringing Sango's neck, Kagome looked over several bras next to her, selecting a couple for Sango. Her eyes widened as she saw some of the designs Kagome had selected for her.
“N-no way!”
“Oh come on, you're not going to buy them. We just need to figure out what your new size is.” Reluctantly, Sango took the offered selection and followed Kagome back to the fitting rooms. Taking the largest room at the far end of the small hallway both left their bags outside as they stepped inside. There wasn't a lot of space, but it was plenty big enough for the two. Kagome quickly began stripping down while Sango took a more uncomfortably pace. After Sango removed her shirt, Kagome frowned at her friend. She is way too big for that… God, how can she stand that? It must be painful…
“What?” Sango asked softly, unconsciously covering herself as she looked over her shoulder.
“Honestly, you should have gotten new stuff a long time ago.” Sango cheeks turned a faint shade of pink.
“Sorry… I don't like shopping for this type of stuff…”
“I know that, but that looks painful,” she said with a sigh, gesturing towards her friends' chest. She wondered if her aversion to this portion of woman's clothing came from a household full of men.
“A little…” she said softly, looking over at Kagome. Kagome was shocked at how quickly her friends face flushed a deep shade of red. Curious as to why, she followed her gaze down to her bare chest. Realizing that she had undressed and didn't put a new bra on, she quickly covered her chest as Sango quickly looked away. Embarrassing memories began to bubble to the surface, flashing Kagome back to the fateful sleepover that ended with the two exploring each other a little more than either had expected. She didn't think either regretted it, but there had been a silent agreement between the two to not speak of it. Judging by Sango's reaction, the sight of her topless had dug up the old memories.
“Sorry,” Kagome said, her face burning as she quickly replaced her bra with one of the new ones.
“No, no, that was my fault for thinking about—” She caught herself, shaking her head.
“I mean… if you want to talk about it…” Her voice was just above a whisper. Kagome silently hoped that Sango would want to talk about it, she certainly did. For the most part, Kagome walked a straight line. She had never tried drugs or had any desire to do so, the only alcohol she had consumed was with permission from her parents and, by her own will, small amounts, she had never so much as touched a cigarette or even thought of cheating on a test. For her, that was the farthest she had, and probably ever would, step out of what society deemed as `appropriate' or `morally correct.'
It wasn't a heavy burden on her conscious, nor was it a hamper to their relationship. They could talk about anything, including sex, without this level of awkwardness which made her wonder why it suddenly resurfaced. It did annoy her from time to time when her mind would wander. Did Sango regret it? It was obvious that she thought about it as well. Since they had never talked about it, Kagome didn't know. She knew that she could live with it if she knew for certain Sango could as well.
“N-no… I mean… Not now. I need some more time.” Kagome nodded.
“That's fine, no pressure or anything.” Nine months felt like a long time for Kagome, but Sango was different, especially when it came to things of that nature.
The two quickly tried on what they had brought to try on, Kagome doing her best to ignore the awkward atmosphere that had descended on them as she made sure Sango's fit. In the end, the two quickly made their purchases. Kagome buying a bra/panty set of all red and another that was black. She figured Kouga would enjoy the surprise of having a sexier pair rather than the somewhat plain ones she had currently. As for Sango, Kagome had managed to talk her into getting a pair of sexy underwear that she was positive would knock Miroku out cold after seeing them. After all, the material, what little there was of it, was all black and it was quite easy to see through.
Leaving the store, the sudden air of tension vanished as suddenly as it had appeared as both took a deep breath, happy to leave the store.
“So, you want to get something to eat before getting something for Inuyasha?” Sango asked, looking over at Kagome. Smiling, Kagome nodded.
“Sounds great.”
********************************************
Inuyasha sat on his bed, his hand pressed against his forehead as he thought. He felt exhausted. Sleep hadn't come easily for him. Terrance had given him a lot of information in the conversation he had with him. It was a lot to digest.
Being Saturday, the last thing he wanted to do was leave the sanctuary of his room knowing what torture resided on the other side of the door. Unfortunately, his body was quite persistent in its need to replenish its energy. That's right, he thought as his stomach growled. I haven't been eating too well this week. For the first time, he felt hungry. Taking a deep breath, he prepared himself for what awaited him. Opening the door slowly, he crept past Kagome's closed door and down the stairs. Much to his surprise, the house was empty.
“Mom?” he asked, peaking into the empty kitchen. Frowning, he headed over to the living room to find that deserted as well. Moving over to the entrance, he saw that his parents' shoes were gone. A quick check showed that Kagome was still here. Sighing, he made his way back upstairs.
“Hey Kagome, where did Mom and Da—” He froze, his hand still on the door knob. Standing before him was Kagome, completely naked, obviously in the middle of changing. Inuyasha just stared dumbly, mouth slightly open as the image was forever burned into his memory.
“Huh?” she asked, surprised by the sudden intrusion. It took several seconds for her to realize that she was naked. Turning red, she quickly turned away, covering herself. The movement snapped Inuyasha back to reality as he slammed the door close.
“S-s-s-sorry,” he spluttered, heart racing as he hit the back of the door. He clutched at his chest, breathing hard as sweat beaded on his forehead. Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid! Knock first! Always knock first! She knocks for you!
“Its fine,” her muffled voice said from the other side of the door. “You just surprised me. I just got home from shopping with Sango a little while ago.”
“I-I-I see…” It was still difficult for him to talk correctly. His eyes burned, as if ready to cry.
“Say, you haven't eaten have you?”
“N-no.”
“Okay, I already ate so I'll fix you something as soon as I finish changing.”
“O-Okay. S-s-shower,” he said stupidly, backing away from her door.
Entering into the small upstairs bathroom, he quickly stripped as he ran the water for the shower. Since his parents had spent awhile over in America, they had grown accustomed to taking showers. Because of this, the upstairs bathroom was probably identical to something you would find in an American house. For Inuyasha he was never more thankful for that. Stepping into the warm water and closing the glass door behind him, his erection swinging awkwardly before him as he moved. Closing his eyes, he conjured up the image in his mind. It was times like this he was thankful for his gifted memory. He could see her as clearly as if she was standing before him, every detail having been burnt into his thoughts. His hand pumped furiously as his mind eye gazed upon his sister, the warm water pelting his back. This was probably the one and only image he would ever get of Kagome that was so revealing. She doesn't shave completely… he thought, eyeing the small patch of trimmed hair between her legs.
Overly excited from the events, he came quickly, gasping as thick white streams erupted from his erect cock, splattering against the shower tiles. With labored breathing, Inuyasha reached up and adjusted the nozzle so that the water washed away the evidence. While once would have been enough in the past, Inuyasha felt his lust was nowhere near satisfied. Twice more, he desperately sought release with the image of her in his mind. The second time could barely be considered an orgasm as he collapsed to his knees, completely spent. Head down, he looked down at his hands, horrified. The pleasure he had felt moments before was quickly replaced by guilt as he returned to reality. For the first time, he couldn't stop the flow of tears as they mixed with the water that flowed down around him.
********************************************
“Eggs are okay right?” Kagome asked as Inuyasha made his way into the kitchen. Another habit picked up from their parents. Despite living in Japan for eighteen years now, they still preferred Western cooking when it came to making something quickly.
“Y-yeah,” he replied, taking a seat at the small table. He stared down at the table, unable to look over at Kagome as she stood over by the stove. It had taken him awhile to recover from the incident in the shower, but now that he was in her presence once more, the shame of the action weighed down on him once more.
Setting the full plate before him, she backed away slowly, smiling at him as he began eating. “Feel better?” she asked suddenly. He nearly choked as he sucked air mixed with egg into his lungs. Fear prickled his skin as a chill ran down his back. Coughing, he hit his chest with his hand. “Are you okay?” she asked, rushing over to him.
Holding up his hand, he stopped her before she could touch him, backing away slightly. “I'm fine,” he choked out, clearing his throat. “I'm fine,” he repeated, his voice returning. For a moment, he thought she was going to say something, but instead, just nodded, retreating back.
He ate quickly, wanting to escape from the imprisoning silence that had encased the kitchen. Kagome stood facing away from him at the sink, washing the dishes with mechanical precision. Even with him consciously making a point to focus on his plate, he found his eyes wandering closer and closer to her. Her hair is longer… he thought, noticing for the first time that her silk black hair was now nearly completely down her back. It was hard to believe she was the same girl as the tomboy he knew eight years ago. There was no denying that the years had been gracious to her. Eight years to go from kid to full woman eh?
His heart pounded against his chest as he soaked up her curved figure. Even with something like jeans and a t-shirt, she still radiated sexy. It didn't help that they were both pressed fairly tightly against her. The white t-shirt didn't show any skin, but how it just barely touched the belt of the jeans made him wonder what would happen if she raised her arms. The way her body made small movements at the sink made him think of a newlywed wife. Rails set, his thought process rushed forward at full steam without waiting for logic. Husband… wife… marriage… love… sex… children… Images flashed through his head of a life he could never have. His gifted mind, now a curse, made each image seem real. The house is empty… We are alone… a voice whispered in his mind.
Eyes wide, he jumped to his feet as he pushed himself away from the table, the chair clattering over behind him. Kagome, startled by the ruckus, quickly turned around, pressing herself against the counter.
“Inuyasha? What's wrong?” she asked, frightened. He was shaking, sweat beading on his forehead as he blinked, looking down. I'm losing my mind… I'm losing it… Losing it…
“I…” he looked over at his sister, horrified at the terrified expression on her face. He forced a smile on his face, doing his best to force a laugh. “I completely forgot… I was supposed to meet Miroku today.” He bent over, setting the chair in its proper position. “I guess… I kind of overreacted.” He chuckled, scratching the back of his neck. Her expression changed from one of fright to one of confusion.
“Inuyasha, you—”
“Have to go,” he said quickly backing out of the kitchen. His footsteps seemed to make ominous thumps against the hard wood floor of the hallway as he moved to the entranceway. Sitting down, he quickly put his shoes on and stood up, opening the door.
“Wait, where are you going?” Kagome asked behind him. “You're food—”
“Miroku's, he's going to kill me if I'm any later!” he called over his shoulder as he closed the door. Taking the steps two at a time, he quickly moved over the path, closing the gate to the house behind him.
He hoped that Kagome had bought the act. The rouge thought had scared him, proving that Kagome wasn't safe around him alone. I'll just stay at Miroku's for the weekend until Mom and Dad come back… Then… Then… He slowed to a stop, his thoughts stalling. Then… what? The more he thought about it, the more he realized that he had finally been backed into a corner with nowhere else to fall back too. He was afraid. What if I start thinking things like that all the time? Dread welled up inside him, a nauseating feeling clutching his stomach. What if he actually acted on them?
He knew what would happen, Kagome would hate him; his parents would hate him; he would hate him. Kagome hating him alone would be a fate worse than death. If that happened… He shook the morbid thoughts from his head. Never before had he been so determined to leave the country, leave everything he felt here behind and forget. Even before, when talking to Terrance, a small portion of him had been held in reserve, hoping that however small chance there may be, he would figure something out. Today only proved that nothing he did could ever solve the problem because of the simple fact there was no solution. It was lose-lose however many ways he looked at it and nothing would ever change it.
Collapsing his shoulders in defeat, he continued walking toward Miroku's.
********************************************
“What's up Kagome?” Sango asked, again, answering her phone with uncanny speed.
“I think Inuyasha might be on drugs,” Kagome said, slowly taking a seat in one of the kitchen chairs. It had been thirty minutes since Inuyasha left.
“Huh? Inuyasha? Are you sure about that? I mean, this is Inuyasha we are talking about.”
Kagome shook her head, resting her forehead on her hand as she propped it up against the kitchen table. “I don't know… It's just… today, he was just weird…” There was a brief pause.
“Since when did Inuyasha become normal?”
“Sango, this is serious. Something is wrong with him. I'm worried.”
“I'm sorry,” Sango said before sighing. “So what happened?” Kagome quickly recalled the event as best she could. It had all happened so fast, it overwhelmed her. There was a faint silence before Sango answered. “Well… I talked to Miroku earlier. I don't remember him saying he had anything planned today.”
I knew it, Kagome thought, resting her head on top of her arm. Everything made sense now. The sudden personality changes, lack of appetite, lying, looking fatigued all the time, suddenly coming home late, it all fell in line nicely when you applied drugs to the equation.
“Kagome? You okay?” Sango asked, concerned.
“Huh? Yeah, I'm fine… It's all just… overwhelming.”
“It could be something completely different too,” Sango said in an overly cheerful voice. “I remember Miroku saying something about a secret girlfriend.”
Kagome brightened, suddenly remembering Miroku's comment the night before. “He mentioned something about that to me too.”
“See? I bet that's the reason!”
“Yeah,” Kagome said, letting out a sigh of relief. Things did make sense… Inuyasha was never the type of guy who would be comfortable with others knowing about a relationship he was in. He probably figures I would tease him about it. She thought for a moment, smiling. I probably would too. His lack of appetite could be easily explained by him eating with his girlfriend; fatigue and coming home late went together if she thought about it…
She felt her face heat up at the thought of her brother in that kind of relationship. For some reason, she could never see him as anything but the small, innocent boy who always followed her around. I guess he is a man now.
“I'm glad that's the reason.”
Sango laughed. “I can't believe you actually he was on drugs. I doubt Inuyasha could find a dealer if his life depended on it. Besides, Inuyasha doesn't seem to be the type to suddenly decide to go get high and he sure as hell isn't going to get hooked from one of us.”
Kagome laughed as well, feeling the tension leave her body. It made sense. Inuyasha had always been socially awkward. He was more likely to get caught by an undercover cop than actually getting a drug dealer and as far as she knew, no one in their small group had even tried drugs. The more she thought about it, the more ridiculous it sounded.
“I guess there is only one question left to answer,” Sango said, continuing.
“What's that?”
“Who the hell would be crazy enough to date your brother?” Laughter filled the room as Kagome enjoyed the sudden relief. I wonder what type of girl she is…
********************************************
Taking a deep breath, Inuyasha knocked on his friends' door. It was dark out. Lost in thought, he had wondered around the city far longer than he had originally planned. Tired, hungry and a little chilly, he finally conceded that it was time for him to head to his friends place.
“Who is it?” a muffled voice asked.
“The only guy who would bother visiting a bum like you.” He could hear rattling behind the door as Miroku unlocked the door, opening it.
“Come on in, and welcome back to a Man's Paradise!” The first thing that hit Inuyasha was the smell. It was unidentifiable by itself, but he could pick out some of the stronger things like old garbage that needed taken out, burnt food and something he really didn't want to identify. The second was the sight. Clothes, either dirty or clean he couldn't tell, littered the floor. Magazines, books and every other sort of object that usually found a place in some sort of storage device cluttered the floor. Stepping inside, Miroku closed the door behind him. The last thing that came to Inuyasha's attention was the faint moaning that was coming from the TV in the larger room.
“Yeah… this is quite… something,” Inuyasha said, looking around his feet. He wasn't sure where to put his shoes amongst all the magazines and old newspapers. Sighing, he settled for sitting them by the half-open adult magazine closest to the door. It was hard to image the place being clean once.
“Since Sango isn't going to be coming around for awhile, I figure there's no point in cleaning right? Come on, I'll grab you a soda.” Inuyasha followed Miroku into the apartment, careful not to step on anything too important. “So, what you been up too?” he asked, tossing Inuyasha a soda from the small fridge in the kitchen area.
Catching it, Inuyasha opened it. “Not much… I've just been thinking.”
“Oh yeah?” Miroku asked, opening his own can. Taking a sip, he held his hand up, pinky extended. “Eh, yeah?” Inuyasha blinked. Frowning, Miroku shook his head. “Your girlfriend man, girlfriend, really I think it's about time you stop hiding her. You wouldn't believe how worried your sister has been, let me tell you. See, Sango hears about this stuff, then I hear about this stuff and well, I don't want to hear about it.”
“Uh…”
“So tell me man… How far have you gone? Spare no details!” Inuyasha was completely lost.
“What the hell are you talking about?”
Miroku tilted his head to the side. “Your girlfriend.”
“I don't have one.”
“You don't?”
“No! Where did you come up with that idea?”
“Really, I could have sworn…” Miroku muttered to himself. Shaking his head, he focused back on Inuyasha. “If you don't have one… What have you been doing lately?” Inuyasha opened his mouth when a loud scream cut him off. Frowning, he turned around to look at the screen.
Ah, right, he thought, turning back around. “You mind turning that off first?” Miroku sighed loudly.
“Fineee… I guess. I just don't want you asking to borrow it.”
In the past… maybe… “Don't worry, not my type.”
“Again, what is it you have against blonds? And big boobs,” he added suddenly.
“Not my type.”
“My type,” Miroku said smiling as he turned the TV off. Inuyasha rolled his eyes.
“All girls are your type.” Miroku only shrugged in answer.
“So what is it you have been doing? So I'm watching some kick ass anime and I get a crazy call from Sango telling me that she just got a crazy call from your sister about how you were somehow on drugs or something like that and—” He took a deep breath. “Yeah, you've been acting funny.”
Taking a deep breath, Inuyasha released it slowly. “Promise not to tell anyone?”
Miroku frowned. “What am I, a woman?”
“Okay, I—” In a split second, he wondered what would happen if he said what was really bothering him. Confessed about his feelings for his sister, how he craved her, longed for her touch and to feel her. If there was one `normal' man in the universe with the ability to handle such a confession without running for the wooden stake, cross and lighter fluid, it would be Miroku. After all, Miroku had plenty of `taboo' dating games on his computer, so it wasn't exactly new territory for the man. He shared a lot of things with Miroku, things he wouldn't tell anyone else, but this was big, too big. There were few things that would truly devastate him like Kagome coming to hate him, but losing Miroku as a friend was a close second. He couldn't, wouldn't even risk his friendship. “Am thinking about going to college overseas,” he continued without missing a beat.
Miroku eyed him with surprise. “Wow… you? Really…?”
“What? Is that so hard to grasp?”
“Well, I mean… yeah, it is.”
“My grades aren't that bad. Besides, I have a feeling I can improve them rather quickly…”
Miroku snorted. “Yeah, and an oak tree grows overnight.” Inuyasha stared at his friend. “What? It was the first thing that came to mind.” He took another sip from the can. “So, what's with all the cloak and dagger stuff then? You had to have known Kagome would worry.”
“I… didn't want anyone to know. I still don't,” he said, making sure Miroku understand that he was to tell no one about it. “I've been talking with some people, doing some research…” There was some truth to what he was saying. One thing he had gotten better at was thinking on his feet and lying. Not exactly something to be proud of and nowhere near the level of a lot of people. Still, for someone who knew him and was expecting fairly lame lies, something that appeared semi-plausible was mostly taken as truth.
“That's cool,” Miroku said, moving over to fall back on his couch, holding his can up to not spill too much of it. Inuyasha watched as he cleared the other side of the couch for him, the mountain of stuff blending perfectly with the things already on the floor.
“That's it? No farther questioning?”
“Eh?” Miroku asked, looking over from the TV he had just turned back on.
“I was expecting there to be more questioning.”
Miroku groaned. “Why does everyone treat me like I'm some sort of woman? No man, you do what you got to do. You need my help? I got your back. Other than that…” He shrugged. Inuyasha smiled as he took a seat on the couch. “Overseas huh? Maybe I should try going with you.”
“You?” Inuyasha asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Why not? Someone's got to fly wingman. What are we trying for? America? Let's go to America. All the girls there are tall and have big boobs.”
“Really, gestures aren't necessary,” Inuyasha said, laughing. “Besides, what about Sango?”
“What about her? She'll be here, I'll be there. What she doesn't know won't hurt her. I'm not going to tell, you aren't going to tell, so how would she find out?”
“You are a terrible, terrible person.”
“Ah well, I'm still a little pissed,” he said before taking a large gulp from the can.
“I sense a story behind this…”
“It's nothing much just…” He stopped frowning. “Why do I suddenly have the creeping feeling we are about to have a girly pep-talk moment?”
“Because of our small circle of friends we always hang out with, sixty percent is female?”
“So… awesome… yet… so… sad…” Miroku said slowly. He rested his hand on Inuyasha's shoulder. “Tell me… Why can't either of us get laid?”
“I know my reasons. One is my sister, another is my best friends' girlfriend and the third is… well… Kikyo is Kikyo,” Inuyasha said, slowly removing Miroku's hand as if handling hazardous material. “As for you… You shouldn't be complaining since you have Sango. A lot of guys are extremely jealous… not to mention completely confused as to why she is dating someone like you.”
Miroku smiled. “That's because she couldn't resist the old charm,” he said brushing the front of his shirt as if dusting it off. “But that aside, there is plenty I should be pissed at. Namely the fact we have been dating over a year and my right hand is a better girlfriend.”
Inuyasha sighed, shaking his head. “First off, God I really didn't need to hear that from you. Secondly, I don't think that's the entire purpose of a relationship. Thirdly, and this probably has something to do with it, you two have only been dating for ten months now.”
Miroku gave his friend an astonished look. “Holy shit man… Did we switch or something?”
“Huh?”
“Well, I mean, you seem to know more about our relationship than I do.”
“Not that big of a surprise.” How could I forget? My mind wouldn't let me even if I wanted too. Hell, he even remembered the day Miroku asked Sango out.
“Okay, I will admit, I have missed a couple of semi-important days—”
“Valentines Day and a birthday aren't quite what I would call `semi-important.'”
“Whose side are you on anyway? Besides, I didn't completely miss her birthday.”
“Only because I overheard Sango's angry conversation with my sister and informed you of your deadly blunder.”
Miroku tilted his head from side to side. “So I made a couple mistakes, those are not reasons to leave me in the cold. Okay, she doesn't want to have sex right now, I'll… survive. But not even a blowjob or a hand job? I'd do better single again!”
“Ah~!” Inuyasha said, covering his ears.
“Oh you baby,” Miroku said, rolling his eyes. Inuyasha laughed. Miroku sighed. “It's kind of depressing though. I am trying, I really am.”
“I know,” Inuyasha said, directing his gaze towards the TV. An anime he didn't know the name of was playing. From the looks of it, it was the one the other guys in the anime club were always drooling over.
Miroku laughed dryly. “I mean, she's not even a virgin.”
“Eh?” Inuyasha said, suddenly perking up. He hadn't known that little fact. “She told you?”
“Well no, but think about it! A beautiful girl like her combined with the fact she's dated several guys before me… I can put two and two together.”
Inuyasha frowned, tapping his chin. “Well, she's waited this long with you hasn't she? Also, she's been dating you longer than any other guys. I would think that would be evidence to think otherwise.”
“We got close once…”
“Oh?” He thought back. “Last weekend right?”
“How'd you know?” Miroku asked, surprised.
“Well, factoring in what you just said with what Sango was mad about last Monday, I can put two and two together,” he said smiling as he repeated what Miroku had said. “You fire the gun too quick or something?”
“Okay, now who's the lewd one? And no, I didn't `fire the gun too quick.' She found some pictures and one thing lead to another… Damn thing ended in a witch hunt for all my good stuff.”
“She found the photography club stuff?”
“Yeah.”
“I told you to get rid of that stuff a long time ago.”
“No way! I paid a lot of money for that stuff. Besides, I got it before we were dating. That doesn't count, does it?”
“I don't think that's the issue…” Inuyasha knew about the pictures. He had been tempted to buy a couple, but never had the guts to do so. Miroku on the other hand… he bought them all, including several good ones of Kagome which he proceeded to show off. Inuyasha had `confiscated' them, playing the brother role perfectly. However, instead of destroying them like he had told Miroku, he kept them in a very special place only he knew about. He had used them more than anything else, but after today, he figured he wouldn't be using them any more.
Shaking his head, he pushed the thoughts away. He was here to forget and have a good time. Taking a deep breath, he slammed his hands together.
“I know what we need to do now,” he said, standing up. Miroku looked at him suspiciously.
“What's that?”
“Clean,” Inuyasha said, making gestures to his arm as though rolling up invisible sleeves. Miroku looked at him like he had just lost all sanity.
“Ka-lean?” he said as if he had never heard the word before.
“Come on, you want to get laid or not?”
“Oh, I am so sorry! I did not know I was in the presence of the relationship master! Tell me O Great One! Tell me what the Wise and Great Man like you draw such knowledge from?” He bowed down slightly, arms extended above his head.
Inuyasha shrugged. “I read some romance manga before.” Miroku blinked up at him. “What have you got?”
Sighing, Miroku stood up. “I'll grab some trash bags…”

First off, I would like to thank everyone who decided to stick with this story despite the topic. :) Secondly, I want to thank everyone who took the time to write a review.
I ended up rewriting several sections of this chapter, drove me crazy. Hardest part to write was the shopping trip. I hope everything is staying in the realm of believability. For the most part, I am making stuff up as I go as my writing style is entrenched firmly in the “Oh! That sounds good! Let's go with that!”
I don't plan on having any Kag/San pairings. Yes, I hinted at something that happened in the past, but I really don't expect to go into that. I wrote that in for a reason that, at four in the morning, seemed like a very good idea.
That's all I have for right now. Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed and stick around for the next chapter!
*Edit: Added the following to the shopping section:
She figured Kouga would enjoy the surprise of having a sexier pair rather than the somewhat plain ones she had currently
