Chapter Two

Trying

*Three Months Later*

"Hey Rai!"

"SHHHHH! I'm trying to concentrate."

"Oh SORRY!" said Kagome who walked away

"Now where did he go?" She scanned the forest and slashed through one of the trees, and behind it was Inuyasha.

"There you are dog boy! Now get back here I want to teach you a lesson for eating my candy!"

"I got hungry! I said I was sorry!"

"No one touches my chocolate!"

"Kagome, can you please help?"

"No Inuyasha I find it pretty funny that you actually took her chocolate, which hundreds of times she has told you to not eat."

"How can this person be the great ones daughter?" Naraku said to himself as he watched the group in Kanna's' mirror. "She seems so young and unable to do the task she was meant for. Maybe I should test her and find her real power." He took one last look at the mirror and flew off on his dark cloud to find this powerful one.

I sit here and listen to my tears fall over my face and trickle down onto the ground. I feel lonely because I have no one who understands my true feelings because no one really loves me as the person I am. In the shadow a dark figure watched the girl stare at the moon as her tears fell, and was wiped from her face.

At the first sight of dawn Naraku found the small band just waking up. He rushed in at the one person he wanted to test before he fought Inuyasha. Rai had not slept well as usual and was not ready for Naraku's heavy blow. Inuyasha lunged at Naraku with the Tetsiaga and slashed away his clothes. Rai scurried out of the way and with her hands created her new weapon, the fire sword.

After Naraku had knocked away Inuyasha, Rai threw herself at him and stabbed him really deep in the shoulder. He grabbed the sword and pulled it out and hit Rai as hard as he could with his one arm and smashed her against the ground. She stood up and again ran at Naraku who had struck Kagome and was fighting Sango and Miroku. With a powerful blow she got him in the back where his burn scar was. Naraku staggered back holding himself up barely and in a quick movement flew away from the band, he had found out what he wanted and was ready

"I have found out that your brother has made a new and powerful friend. She is the Great Ones' daughter and from what I have also heard she has not been able to transform quite yet. I have some idea how to possess that power but I need the girl." Naraku spoke to Sesshomaru

"And you are asking me to do the kidnapping. And how do you expect me to do that?" Sesshomaru asked with a smirk.

"Learn about the girl. Get her to trust you, than at the right moment take her!" Naraku said

"I hate humans and this girl has human in her does she not?"

"A little, yes but not much."

"Alright I will go but I get some of the power."

"Deal!"

After their long rest from searching and fighting they were off to a village that supposedly had some shards. The walk was boring until a cry for help came from a near by village sending Rai and Inuyasha ahead. Sesshomaru was there as well but in a more human like form to not catch his brothers' attention. He fought the demon and killed it just as the two came. Rai was amazed that a human brought down the demon.

"Are you the one they call Rai?" Asked Sesshomaru

"I am. Who is wanting to know?" Rai responded

"My traveling has ended here. I wanted to travel and study with you. I have mastered many skills but as I heard of your greatness I wanted to find you myself."

"That is very flattering but I don't know if they want you to come." Rai told as she pointed at Inuyasha who was pouting because he didn't get to destroy the beast.

"Oh you are with the half demon aren't you?" Sesshomaru asked

"Not as lovers if that is what you mean. I just travel with him and my friends."

Rai walked over to the group who were waiting for her. She told them of his defeat of the demon and the request to travel with them. Everyone but Inuyasha agreed but changed his mind after Kagome sat him. She returned to Sesshomaru finding that his human name was Shomaru. She explained that he could come as long as he was studying from her. Shomaru had a smile cross his face and thanked Rai for her kindness. She was excited that someone new believed that she was the greatest fighter.

She told him all about finding them and her powers. She spoke of how scared she was until they helped her achieve what she is now. Shomaru asked many questions about how her powers worked and if they could work for someone else. She said that her mother said that to take her powers would be like taking her life away and if she was dead her powers could destroy everything.

"You are in a dangerous position aren't you?"

"You can say that. Without me this world could perish in seconds."

"I hear that you can transform into a stronger form that is indestructible right?"

"Yes that is true but I haven't achieved all my skills."

"What do you mean by that?"

"Life and death are the two things that I have not been able to tamper with making me unable to use them. Mother said I had to earn them. You're the first I have actually been able to talk to about this kind of stuff."

"I don't mind. I know how it feels to be alone. No one knowing what you are going through."

"Now Shomaru let me lay the rules out for you. One, do not take my chocolate."

"Why shouldn't I?"

"Because it's my favorite food and dog boy did it and got punished."

"Evil aren't we?"

"Well maybe?" Rai said as she blushed. Shomaru looked off not very impressed by the human actions. He never blushed or showed any emotions at all, but he seemed to see something different about her, but he pushed the thought from his mind and focused on the plan.

While the moon shown Shomaru went into the forest to get away from the group and the human scents when he heard small sobs coming from a close tree. In the tree was the girl he was trying to take, maybe now was a good time to when he heard her singing to herself.

In the end I want to be standing

At the beginning, but with who?

Stupid humans and their emotions they always get wrapped up in them that is why their so weak, but she is demon blood. How come she can act like a human more then a demon, she is a strange person. He should grab her and give her to Naraku but something held him back from doing it. Those tears they were enchanting and really affected his thoughts.

"Hey! Who took my chocolate this time! INUYASHA!!!!"

"WHAT?! WHAT?! I didn't do it!"

"SHIPPO!"

"I don't like that brown stuff."

"KAGOME! MIROKU! SANGO!"

"We didn't take it!"

"SHOMARU!"

"What do you want?"

"Did you break rule number one?"

"No." He turned around with one of her candy bars half way down his throat.

"Shomaru! Why did you take one of my bars?"

"Because I think you're cute when you're mad."

Rai backed up and blushed a deep red at what he had just said, he liked how she looked. "Shomaru I'll let you pass but don't do that again."

"Okay but do you want it?"

"Want what?"

"The rest of your candy."

"Yes I would very much." He walked up to her and placed a small kiss on her lips, his tasted just like her chocolate. Kagome, Sango, Miroku and Inuyasha started to giggle at what they had just seen.

"Miroku and Inuyasha you all should get some tips from him because he knows how to act." Sango and Kagome said to them and got some frowns out of it. When Shomaru broke away he looked at the girl he had just kissed, was it really happening, was he falling in love. No he wasn't going to do that not when he could have great power. He turned and walked away before Rai could say anything to him and left a stunned girl.

He was going to follow Rai into the forest that night and take her before she affected him even more. She usually crept away when everyone was asleep. He closely followed the young warrior to a tree that over looked a beautiful view of a river and mountain setting. Hoping from one tree to another he watched as the girl just gazed out at the land in front of her, than she brought out a small knife and held it over her heart ready to kill herself. Shomaru knew what was happening and bounded towards her tree and sat next to her.

"Aren't you suppose to be asleep?" Shomaru asked at the stunned Rai who didn't expect anyone to be following her.

"Yeah but who really cares."

"What is with the knife?"

"I want to die. I have no one to love and my life is incomplete."

"No, your life is not incomplete. All of your friends need you to be there for them and if you die now who will I have to tease and for Inuyasha to be chased by? You are a big part of us all."

Rai looked at him trying to tell if he was joking with her but she saw that he was telling the complete and honest truth. She placed the knife back into her belt and laid against the tree, falling into a comfortable slumber that she hadn't felt in such a long time.

Later in the afternoon Rai woke up to find herself being carried by someone since she just woke up she couldn't tell who it was. When everything came back into focus she saw Shomaru's face gazing down upon her and he smiled for once. She looked up and fell back into his chest and slept again, for she knew she was safe in his arms.

Shomaru looked down at the sleeping figure and place a kiss on her forehead promising nothing would ever happen to her.

*Rai's Dream*

"Shomaru please stay with me."

"I can't because I love you."

"If you love me stay."

"I don't want to hurt you again don't try to love me back."

"I won't ever stop loving you!"

She hugged him close and then a noise arose her from her sleep. A familiar voice that could only mean trouble for Kagome.
