Chapter 3 Feel of Guilt

Kagome got out of the car and waved as Sango pulled out of the driveway again. Kagome was glad she had a great friend like Sango. Kagome turned and walked to the door. She had her hand on the door knob and was turning it to enter the house.

"Hey." A voice called from behind her. She recognized that voice. She turned and was greeted by a grinning Inuyasha.

"Hey." She said with a smile. "What are you doing here?" Inuyasha had already begun to walk up to her. Inuyasha was wearing similar clothes to the ones last night and the same baseball cap. She wondered why he was wearing that hat again.

"Well, I thought I should come check on you and see how you were doing." He said smoothly. Kagome blushed.

"Oh! I'm fine! I just got back from school." She said quickly in embarrassment.

"That's good. But the real reason I came is to ask you if you wanted to go for a walk with me. Would you?" Inuyasha asked with his sexy grin still plastered to his face. Kagome still had a blush on her cheeks. It was only 3 pm so she thought she could get back by the time Sango got back.

"Uhhh... Well... Yeah! Sure! But my friend just left, and I should be here when she gets home. She should only be gone for about an hour or so." Kagome eventually rambled out. Inuyasha's eyes lit up.

"Cool! Come on. I'll make sure you're home before long." He told her. Kagome followed him as he turned to walk down the sidewalk. Kagome pranced up beside him and they walked together. There was an awkward silence for a few minutes before either of them spoke. "So, tell me a little about yourself Kagome." Inuyasha said.

"Oh. Okay! Ummm... I just turned 21 a few months ago, I'm a sophomore in college, and... Ummm... I don't know what else!" She said with a laugh. Inuyasha laughed with her. "Now it's your turn!" She said. Inuyasha knew she would ask that and he couldn't tell her much, for now at least.

"Hmmm... What about me..." He said jokingly. Kagome laughed and elbowed his arm. Inuyasha laughed. "Okay, okay. Well, I just turned 21, too. And I have a full time job that takes up a lot of my time." He said, trying to be vague. Kagome was happy with his answer, though she of coarse had questions.

"What kind of work do you do?" She asked.

"I guess you could say I'm in security, but it's a little more complicated than that." He said. Kagome smiled at him.

"Sounds like an exciting job to me!" She said with enthusiasm. She didn't want him to think she was too pushy with her questions. They were quiet again for a little bit. They enjoyed the company.

Kagome eventually started chattering about her day at school and how her friend Yuri had a huge crush on this guy named Hojo and how Kagome got them to go on a date for this weekend and how proud she was of herself. Inuyasha chuckled at how proud she was of herself for such a little act.

Kagome noticed that they were approaching the park that wasn't far from Sango's place.

"Have you been here before?" Inuyasha asked.

"Yeah I love this park! I grew up playing here!" Kagome replied.

Kagome's heart skipped a beat when Inuyasha grabbed her hand gently. He tugged on her to lead her into the park. Kagome eagerly followed him. He led her onto a hidden path that walked through the trees and wilderness. He let her hand go and Kagome wished he didn't. Little did Kagome know that Inuyasha didn't want to let her hand go either. He didn't want to push any boundaries though.

Kagome didn't even know that this path existed. There were bursts of color everywhere. The flowers were fully bloomed and trees were full and green.

"Oh Inuyasha, this is beautiful! How did you know about this place?" Kagome asked. Inuyasha turned away to hide the pink on his cheeks.

"It's peaceful and relaxing to me out here. Away from all the ruckus of the town. I like to spend my free time here." He said, thinking she would laugh at him.

Kagome's heart melted. This tough security guy likes to spend time outdoors to relax. 'That's so romantic!' She thought. Kagome wrapped her arms around Inuyasha's torso and Inuyasha blushed harder. "That is so sweet Inuyasha!" She said kindly. "I'm so happy you're sharing this with me!"

Inuyasha smiled. He gave her a hug back and they separated. "I'm glad this makes you happy." He said with a grin still across his features. They walked along the path and marveled at the beauty of the nature around them.

Inuyasha couldn't believe how relaxing and serene it felt to walk on his favorite path with Kagome by his side. He never felt more peaceful with anyone in his life. Not even with his mother. 'Mother.' He thought. He hadn't thought about his mom in a long time. It hurt to think of her. She passed away when he was only 11 years old. 'Its been 10 years since you left me.' He thought as he looked to the sky through the canopy of leaves.

Kagome had a strange feeling of grief hit her chest. Tears formed in her eyes. Though she had a smiled on her lips. She had no idea what was happening. She felt like she had lost a loved one, but she knew they were in a better place now.

Inuyasha smelt the salt from her tears. They were now falling down her cheeks. "What's wrong? Are you okay?" He asked. Kagome whipped her face with her sleeve.

With her grin still in place, she replied. "I'm sorry I don't know what came over me! I had a feeling that someone left the ones who loved them most and went to heaven." She looked up to the sky like Inuyasha had earlier. Inuyasha froze.

'How could she... Is she thinking of my mother like I was?' He thought. "Maybe we should get you home. You look tired." He said kindly. Kagome smiled sweetly and nodded. Inuyasha escorted Kagome back to Sango's house. Sango hadn't returned yet and Kagome was relieved.

"Thanks for the walk! I had a lot of fun!" Kagome thanked him.

"Maybe we can do it again sometime." Inuyasha replied with a sexy, sly grin. Kagome blushed and giggled. Inuyasha turned to walk away. "I'll see ya later." He said with a wave as he left her once again.

"Bye!" Kagome called to him. She decided to sit on the porch and wait for Sango to return. 'She shouldn't be too much longer.' She thought. She sat down and contemplated about what happened at the park. 'Why did I get that feeling? It came out of nowhere. And who was it I was thinking of? She was very beautiful.' She thought to herself. The image of the woman flashed through her mind. 'Who is she?' Kagome was pulled back into reality when she heard Sango's car horn.

Beep, beep.

Kagome looked at the car that just pulled into the driveway. Sango was waving her arm at her out the window. The car was stuffed full of her things from Koga's. Kagome laughed and stood up. She ran over to the car and opened one of the back doors. She grabbed up her arms full of stuff. Sango got out of the car and did the same. They continued the process until everything was inside. It didn't take long.

When they finished, they both plopped down on the couch. "Sorry it took me so long. You had more stuff than I thought you did!" Sango laughed with her apology. Kagome laughed with her.

"It's okay! A friend had stopped by and we got a chance to talk a little bit!" She told her. Sango shot up from her relaxed stance and almost assaulted Kagome for answers. Though she was extremely excited.

"What?! Who was it? Where did you two go? Where did you guys meet? Is it a guy? Why haven't you told me about him yet? Is he cute? Tell me!" Sango questioned. Kagome waved her hands in front of her to assure her that it wasn't like she was thinking.

"Ha ha, well it's a funny story! Ummm... Remember last night when I was walking her from Koga's?" Sango nodded in acknowledgment. "Well this guy loaned me his jacket in the rain." Kagome said, nervous what Sango would say.

"Awww! That's so sweet! Is he cute? What's his name?" She bombarded Kagome. Sango had leaned forward in anticipation. Kagome laughed half heartedly.

"His name is Inuyasha." Kagome said. That was all she could say before Sango interrupted.

"Oh! Sounds exotic!" Sango said as she gave Kagome a grin that shows she suspects her attraction to him. Kagome again gave her the half hearted laugh.

"Yeah, that's what I said! Ha ha!" She replied.

"Anyways! Is he cute? What does he look like?" Sango asked anxiously.

"Well... He is very handsome." Kagome said. Sango shrieked with excitement. Kagome laughed with her. "He has really long silver hair and he is super toned." Kagome continued with imaginary hearts and flowers surrounding her. Sango grabbed Kagome's hands.

"That's wonderful! You're already on the rebound!" Sango said, then released her hands. She jumped up and started doing a happy dance. Kagome blinked a few times as she processed what Sango just said.

'Rebound?' She thought. "Wait, Sango, what happened at Koga's?" Kagome asked quietly. Sango stopped abruptly. She sat back down next to Kagome.

"Oh, right. Well, he opened the door and I barged in. He was giving me an ear full about how I had no right being there and I told him about how you didn't want to see him, so you asked me to get your things. He shut up really quick!" Sango laughed.

Kagome pictured his sad heartbroken face. She felt guilty for liking Inuyasha. She felt like she was betraying Koga. "Was he really that sad?" Kagome asked. "Poor guy." She whispered. Sango was surprised Kagome wasn't happy from what she said.

"No sweetie! He was pissed!" Sango told her. She placed an arm around her shoulders for comfort. "You really loved him didn't you." Kagome nodded as tears filled her big brown eyes. She lowered her head so her bangs covered them. "It's okay Kagome. He's a jerk. You can do better than him. Tell me more about this Inuyasha guy! Is he a nice guy?" Sango asked trying to change the subject.

Kagome sniffed away her tears. "Yeah, he's really sweet. He acts tough but he's a big softy once you get to know him." She said as a smile crept onto her face. The thought of him made her feel better. "Sango, you don't think I'm pursuing a new relationship to quickly, do you? I don't want Inuyasha to be a rebound, I want a real relationship." Sango shook her head.

"Don't think you're rushing things! If it's how you feel, then it's real! Don't doubt your heart!" Sango told her with a smile. Kagome hugged her friend.

"Thanks Sango." She thanked. They ended their hug and Sango pranced away to make them both something to eat. Kagome remained on the couch and thought about their conversation.

'I do have strong feelings for Inuyasha, although I haven't known him for more than a day. Is this what love is? It took me a long time to completely trust Koga and then he broke it. He didn't just break it, he shattered my heart into a million pieces! He is such a jerk! I feel safer with Inuyasha. I feel like I've known him for a long time, even if I know I haven't.' Kagome thought. She decided to go change into some of her own clothes to get comfy. She put on some sweat pants and a tank top.

She entered the kitchen and was greeted by the smell of grilled cheese sandwiches. "Those smell delicious Sango!" Kagome said as she sat at the table. Sango giggled and served Kagome a sandwich and sat down herself with one.

"So Sango, have you asked Miroku on a date yet?" Kagome asked teasingly. Sango blushed.

"He's a pervert! He's always trying to grab my butt! I don't like him like that!" Sango exclaimed. Kagome giggled.

"Yeah, yeah! But what are you going to do when I wanna go on a double date with you?" Kagome continued to tease. Sango thought about Kagome's request.

"I guess I could ask him if that were the case." Sango said more quietly. Her face was burning red. Kagome started to laugh and Sango joined in.

They finished their meal and returned to the couch. Sango flipped on the TV and they watch a short movie on Lifetime. They laughed, they cried and even screamed a couple times. When the movie ended, they made fun of the main girl for not knowing her boyfriend of 6 months was a serial killer. Then a knock came at the door.
