Chapter 4 Unveiling

There was a knock at the door. The girls jumped a little.

"Who would be visiting? Were you expecting anyone?" Kagome whispered. Sango shook her head and hopped up to get the door. She opened it and didn't recognize the man. He had long silver hair and golden eyes. He had flowers in his hand.

"Is Kagome home?" He asked with a sexy grin. Kagome heard his voice and her heart jumped.

"Oh, yeah! She's right here!" Sango said, motioning for Kagome to come to the door. Kagome jumped out of her seat and joined Sango at the door.

"Inuyasha! What are you doing here?" Kagome asked with a huge smile on her face.

"I brought these for you." He said as he handed her the bouquet of flowers. They were full red roses.

"Thank you! They're beautiful!" She said as she shoved her nose into them to smell. Then she turned to Sango. "Sango, this is Inuyasha! Inuyasha, this is Sango!" She introduced.

"It's nice to meet you!" Sango said extending her hand to him. He took her offer.

"The pleasure is all mine!" He said.

"Please, come in!" Kagome said as she grabbed his hand and pulled him inside. Sango took the flowers from Kagome.

"I'll go put these in some water! You two get comfortable!" Sango said as she winked at Kagome.

"Thanks!" She told Sango. When Sango exited the living room, Kagome turned back to Inuyasha. "Do you want to sit down?" She asked. Inuyasha smiled at her. They sat down together. Kagome's eyes were glued to his. She couldn't look away. Inuyasha's face then became serious.

"Kagome, do... Do you... Have... Feelings for me?" He asked. Kagome's eyes widened and her breath caught in her throat. She could feel the heat on her face from her blush. She looked away from him and brushed her hair behind her ear.

"Well, uhh... I... Well... Yeah. I didn't... Umm... Mean to make you uncomfortable... I hope you didn't feel like you had to get me those flowers." She rambled. Inuyasha felt his heart pounding.

'She said yeah. She does like me!' He thought. His face became soft and vulnerable. He grabbed Kagome and pulled her into his chest. Kagome was still blushing but she pressed herself into him. "K'gome, will you be with me?" He asked into her ear. Kagome felt a shiver go down her spine. She rubbed her nose into his shirt.

"I would love to Inuyasha!" She said. Inuyasha squeezed her tighter then released her. He smiled at her.

"Your friend is coming." He told her quietly. Kagome blushed again. Sango entered the room and sat in her arm chair across from them. She noticed their close proximity with each other. She smiled at them.

"So, Inuyasha. You do realize that Kagome is my best friend, right?" Sango asked. It was a rhetorical question. She didn't expect a response so she continued. "Well, if you hurt her, I will come after you. So just don't do it, okay?" Kagome shot her a glare. Sango smiled at them. Inuyasha smiled at Kagome, as if to tell her 'it's okay.'

"I won't let anything hurt Kagome, let alone myself Sango." Inuyasha replied. He turned to Kagome and laced his fingers with hers. "I will always protect her." Sango and Kagome melted at his words. Sango stood.

"You both have my blessings!" She said. "Now, I will let you two have a little alone time!" Sango said as she bowed and ran up the steps to her bedroom.

Inuyasha turn back to Kagome again. "I can't force myself to stay away from you anymore Kagome. All I could think about when I was away from you, was you. And when I'm with you, I feel comfortable and relaxed. I always want to be by your side. If you will let me, I will stay by your side and protect you with my life." He told her. Kagome blushed a brighter red.

"With your life? What would you need to do that for? It's not like you would fight to the death for me." She said as she looked away. She couldn't concentrate when she looked into his eyes. Inuyasha chuckled lightly.

"I guess I haven't explained myself yet. I'm sorry Kagome. I haven't been completely honest with you. I've kind of been withholding the truth from you for your own protection." He said. Kagome looked at him in confusion. "I want you to have the choice. Before you decide to be with me, you should know what you would be getting yourself into." He warned. He looked to the stairs then back to her. "But I can't tell you here. I don't want your friend Sango to hear." Kagome nodded.

He stood up and helped Kagome up as well. Kagome yelled up to Sango that she would be home later but she didn't know when.

"Okay! I won't wait up then! Have fun!" Sango yelled back. They left the house and began to walk.

"I'm sorry I haven't told you everything. I just wanted to protect you." He said. Kagome was really confused.

"Inuyasha, what's going on?" She asked. Inuyasha had a sad look in his eyes.

"Don't scream okay?" He said.

"Why would I- Eep!" She squeaked when Inuyasha picked her up bridal style and they suddenly were gliding through the air. "What... What's going on? Are we flying?!" She asked in shock. She was clinging to Inuyasha's neck for dear life.

He nuzzled his nose into her hair. "Calm down, I won't drop you." He whispered. Kagome relaxed at his words. She actually liked feeling the wind flow through her hair and against her skin.

"So are we flying?" She asked calmly now.

"No, I just jumped." He answered. Kagome blinked.

"Wow, you can jump really high." She said. Inuyasha huffed.

"This is nothing. We'll be out of the air soon. Just relax." He told her. Inuyasha felt her relax further in his arms. Kagome became more aware of her surroundings. The view of the sun set was gorgeous. Then she began to notice Inuyasha's movements. He really was just jumping from rooftop to rooftop. Yet, the ride was so smooth.

'Is he a human? No. Humans can't jump like this. What is he then?' She thought. She looked up at his face. He was so calm and relaxed. She had expected him to be exhausted. Then she remembered the first time they met. He was carrying her just like this. 'He saved me like this.' She thought. She tightened her hold on his neck and hugged her body to his.

Inuyasha's breath caught in his throat. She was hugging him. He never dreamed she would be so accepting of this. He pictured her kicking and screaming and telling him to put her down. But no. She was hugging herself to him. Like she was enjoying herself.

He sped up and in a few minutes they were back in the park. Kagome looked around and saw the path once again. Inuyasha sat Kagome down on her feet. He then stepped back from her. Kagome missed his warm touch.

Inuyasha had his eyes covered by his bangs. Kagome was worried for him. She had no idea what was going on and wished she could help him with his anxiety. It was like she could feel its thickness through the air.

"Inuyasha." She whispered out. She wanted to comfort him.

"Kagome? Do you want to see me in my true form? Without any disguises?" He asked softly. Kagome nodded. She didn't know what to expect but the suspense was killing her. He chuckled lightly. "Okay then." He said.

Kagome saw him reach up to his neck and pull a necklace out from his shirt. Then ripped it off. Kagome felt the wind pick up. It swirled around the two of them. Even from their small distance apart, Kagome could see his finger nails lengthening and his canines also growing. The wind was very strong. It blew his ball cap clear off. Kagome gasped softly when she saw the silver triangles on the top of his head. The winds settled and Inuyasha kept his eyes from view.

'This is it. She's going to abandon me.' He thought. He didn't want to see her disgusted look so he averted his eyes from her. "If you don't want to stay with me, I understand. You don't have to-" He said before he was cut off. He was surprised when he felt Kagome's hand gently cup his cheek. His eyes shot up to meet hers.

"I want to be with you. I want you to be yourself." She said. Then she paused as her emotions started to show. Tears filling her bottom eyelids. "No matter what you are, I'm not afraid of you. I know you won't hurt me. I-I love you Inuyasha!" She exclaimed. She didn't know why she had these strong feelings for him this quickly, but she couldn't deny them. Her tears fell down her cheeks.

Inuyasha lifted his hand and whipped away her tears. "Kagome." He whispered. No one else had ever instantly walked up to him in his half demon form. Everyone always ran. Even Kikyo. He slowly leaned forward and Kagome did the same. They met in the middle and shared their first kiss. When they separated for air, Inuyasha hugged her close to his chest. They remained there for a while longer. "I love you too Kagome. More than anything." He said.

Kagome leaned back so she could look at him. "Will you talk to me about this? I have... Some questions." She asked. She spoke quietly and sweetly. She wanted Inuyasha to know that she understood it was hard for him to show her all this. Inuyasha closed his eyes and let his nose find its way to her neck.

"Of course Kagome. I'll explain everything." He whispered next to her ear. He let Kagome go for a moment and grabbed his ball cap and shoved it into his jacket pocket. Along with his charm.

Then he returned to Kagome and wrapped his arms around her waist. Kagome squeaked in surprise when they once again were up in the air. However, this time it was only for a few seconds. They landed on a tree branch and Inuyasha sat down with Kagome in his lap. He replaced his nose in the crook of her neck. "What do you want to know?" He asked content with their closeness.

"Start at the beginning." She replied quietly. She pulled back so she was able to lay her head on his shoulder. Inuyasha chuckled at her action. He was forced to pull his nose away from her skin.

"From the beginning, huh?" He said as he scratched the back of his head. He wrapped his arm back around and gave her a light squeeze. "I guess you wanna know what I am to start. Well, I'm part demon." He said.

"A demon? But I thought all demon's were bad." She questioned.

"Not all demons are bad. Most of them are, but I'm one that keeps the bad ones at bay. You see we are called guardians. We protect the humans in our towns and keep the bad demons abiding to the contract." He explained.

"What contract?" Kagome asked. Inuyasha grinned and laid his head on top of hers.

"The contract states that if a demon, good or bad, hurts a human on purpose, they are prone to the consequences that the council decides. That could mean banishment, confinement, or even worse, death." He told her.

"So demons have like... Jails and councils? I never had any idea." Kagome stated. She lifted her head and was able to look at Inuyasha. 'He's so handsome. His eyes feel like they can see into my soul.' She thought.

"Yeah, not many humans know about demons. The council frowns upon it since they could cause mass chaos if they tell other humans." He said. "If a demon tells a human about their true existence, it makes them at more risk of being a target for the other demons." He said more softly as he tightened his grip on Kagome. Her eyes showed her concern.

"That's why I didn't want to tell you at first. I wanted you to be safe. But once I realized I couldn't stay away from you, you had already been targeted but I will protect you no matter what. You don't have to worry." He told her slightly panicked that he said something to make her want to leave. Kagome could feel his panic and kissed his lips gently. Then she placed her forehead against his and they closed their eyes. Inuyasha relaxed.

"I know you'll protect me Inuyasha. I trust you." She whispered. Inuyasha looked at her and a smiled found his lips.

"It's getting late, I should get you back." He said. Kagome smiled back at him and nodded. She wasn't going to rush him into telling her all the details. They were going to have plenty of time together after tonight.
