Chapter 6 Day In
Kagome was in awe of the car she was riding in. It had leather interior, a fully loaded speaker system and black tented windows. She had never seen a car like this, let alone ride in one. She willed herself to focus on the man beside her because he was way more attractive than any car could be.
"So, you said u had a brother?" Kagome spoke through the silence.
"Yeah, but he's not like me." Inuyasha replied. Kagome was confused.
"What do you mean?" She asked. Inuyasha sighed.
"We don't have the same mother." He told her. Kagome was surprised by his words. "He's a full fledged demon." She gasped. Inuyasha laughed. "You don't have to worry Kagome. He won't hurt you."
"I wasn't worried! I was just surprised the he's not half demon, too." She shouted. Then she got quiet again. "I knew you would protect me." She whispered. Inuyasha's ears twitched under the ball cap.
The two sat in silence for a few minutes. Inuyasha was thinking about what she had said. Meanwhile, Kagome was fidgeting nervously in her seat while she waited to meet the older brother of her new half demon boyfriend, but he was a full demon.
Kagome was getting even more nervous as the silence lengthened. So, she decided to break it.
"What's he like? Your brother, I mean." She asked. Inuyasha glanced at her as she pulled him from his zoned out thoughts.
"Well, he's... Uh... He's very, serious about his job." He replied.
"Oh you mean about protecting humans." She said. Inuyasha took a hand off the wheel and scratched the back of his head.
"Yeah, well, not exactly. More like keeping the evil demon's away. I guess you could say he's territorial when other demon's get to close to 'his' town." Inuyasha explained. Kagome thought about what he was saying.
"So he doesn't care about the humans that live here?" She asked. Inuyasha shook his head.
"It's not like that. He protects the people who live here. Like I do. We take turns patrolling the town. Making sure the people living here are safe from rogue demons. Plus, like I said before, the council wouldn't allow him to hurt humans or reveal himself as a demon." He explained. "But." He started. Then he paused for a moment. "There is one though." Kagome looked at him questioningly. "His mate."
Kagome was surprised. From the way Inuyasha had talked, he was super strict and serious. She didn't think he would have time to find a mate and be in a relationship. 'I bet he has a really strong demon mate.' She thought. Her thoughts were cut off.
"A human named Rin." He said. Kagome raised an eyebrow.
"Really? So he does like humans!" She giggled. Inuyasha laughed with her.
"Sort of." He laughed. Inuyasha pulled into a back road that went through the woods on the edge of town. Kagome hadn't ever been out this far. "We're almost there." Inuyasha informed her. This reminded Kagome of how nervous she was. She froze up. She turned to Inuyasha and grabbed his sleeve.
"What am I supposed to say? Do? What if they don't like me? I'm so nervous!" She panicked. Inuyasha laughed and placed a hand on hers.
"Don't worry. They are going to love you." He told her. He looked over to her and she felt better when she saw the warmth of his eyes. She relaxed a little into her seat.
The road pulled right into the drive way of a large house that looked modern but still classic. Kagome thought she was in a dream. The house was gorgeous and had the trees with the gardens around it made the house look even more stunning.
"Inuyasha your house is beautiful!" Kagome exclaimed. "You must be like, super rich!" She said, still wide eyed. Inuyasha waved her off with one of his hands.
"No, no. I'm not 'super rich' as you would say." He said slightly mocking her. Kagome giggled. "My father was the owner of a lot of land in the west and he founded a lot of businesses. My brother and I inherited his fortune." He explained.
"Oh, so you're just the heir of a millionaire!" Kagome teased. The two laughed in unison.
He pulled the car up to the house and put it in park. He opened his door and got out. Kagome was opening her door when Inuyasha helped her open it and helped her out. She was surprised he was on her side so quickly.
"Oh yeah and just a warning." He said as he shut the car door behind her. "Rin is very excitable." He finished with a grin. "And she is gonna love you!" He teased. Kagome giggled, not knowing he was completely right.
Before they could even walk in the front door, Rin was hugging Inuyasha and Kagome. "Hi there Kagome! I'm Rin! I've heard so much about you from Inuyasha!" She exclaimed cheerfully. "Come on! Let's go inside!"
Kagome was stunned by the way she was already embracing her like a close friend of hers. She was very pretty with her dark brown hair flipped out and her hazel colored eyes. Rin grabbed Kagome's hand and dragged her through the front door. Inuyasha followed close behind. Rin led her through the living room into the kitchen. Then, she plopped her down in a chair.
"It's so nice to finally meet you! Are you hungry? Do you want something to drink?" Rin asked, rushing around the kitchen preparing food, drinks, and everything in-between. Kagome smiled from how sweet she was.
"No, thank you! I'm fine!" She replied. Rin heard her and stopped her rushing. She calmed down a bit and sat down in a chain at the table. Inuyasha was pulling up a chain next to Kagome and removed his charm. The air around them swirled for a few minutes then settled back down. Then he placed his ball cap on the table.
"Okay then! I'm sure Sesshy will be very excited to meet you too! Let me call him. Hey Sesshy! Can you come into the kitchen please?! Inuyasha brought Kagome over!" Rin called. Inuyasha grabbed Kagome's hand and smiled at her. She smiled back at him even though she was nervous about meeting his brother.
A tall man turned the corner and Kagome's breath caught in her throat. She could see the similarities with Inuyasha but he had a presence that made her squirm. She was intimidated by him. Kagome squeezed Inuyasha's hand. Inuyasha leaned over and nuzzled her neck for a moment. This calmed her nerves.
Kagome stood to bow politely. "It's nice to meet you!" She said lowering her head to bow. Inuyasha stood up next to her.
"Sesshomaru, this is Kagome." Inuyasha introduced. Kagome straightened up. Sesshomaru's features didn't change. He stepped forward until he was right in front of them.
"Hmph. You haven't awoken yet." He huffed. He turned away walked back the way he came. Rin frowned sadly and ran after him. Inuyasha was confused but not as much as Kagome.
"What did he mean by that?" Kagome asked Inuyasha. He shrugged then put an arm around her shoulder.
"Don't worry about it. He isn't the friendliest person in the world." Inuyasha teased. He replaced his nose in her hair. "I'll give you a quick tour of the house." He whispered. Kagome felt chilled trickle down her spine. Inuyasha showed her around the first floor and told her where each room was. Then he led her to the stairs and walked her up them. They turned down the hallway and walked up to a room near the end.
"What room is this?" Kagome asked. Inuyasha placed a hand on the doorknob.
"My room." He said, opening the door and allowing the sunlight to wash over the two of them. Kagome was in awe. The room had half of it's walls made of glass. The scenery visible and seemed close enough to touch. Somehow, Kagome knew Inuyasha could easily touch the trees that were so close yet so far away.
Kagome stepping into the room and walked up to the wall of windows. She gazed into the wilderness. Inuyasha came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist.
"It's beautiful Inuyasha." Kagome whispered. He smiled.
"You are always welcome here." He told her. She turned around and placed her hands on his chest. Her eyes twinkled were hope and love.
"Really? You mean it?" She asked happily. He nodded and Kagome through herself into his chest for a hug.
When they finished their embrace, Kagome looked around the rest of the room. She saw a small sea shell lips stick case sitting on his desk. She picked it up and looked at the color inside. It was a magnificent reddish pink color.
"Hey Inuyasha." She called. Inuyasha had sat down on a lounge chair in the corner. He heard her and looked over to her.
"Yeah? What is it?" He asked. She held out the shell and his eyes softened. "That's one of the few things I still have from my mother." He said. Kagome felt awful that she brought up such bad memories for him.
"I'm sorry." She apologized. Inuyasha shook his head with a smile.
"No, don't apologize. You didn't do anything wrong." He told her. "If we're going to be together, you have the right to know everything about me." He placed his hand behind his head and rested it on the back of the chair as a grin graced his lips. Kagome smiled.
She turned back to the desk and sat the shell where it was before she picked it up. Then she turned back to Inuyasha. She sat down in a chair across from him. "So, how did Sesshomaru find Rin?" Kagome asked.
"Well, it happened a long time ago. I was still a kinda young." He told her. Kagome raised an eyebrow.
"Young? How young? She doesn't look very old." Kagome asked. Inuyasha nodded.
"Yes. Demons age differently than humans. They age the same year by year like humans until they reach complete adulthood. So my brother is a lot older than he looks and he will live twice as long as I will, even with him being older than me." Inuyasha explained. Kagome was surprised. But she let him continue.
"And when a demon mates with a human, the human will age at the same rate as their mate. Since they will no longer be able to survive without one another. That's why Rin still looks as young as she did when they decided to mate with each other." He finished explaining.
"But since you have demon blood, shouldn't you out live your brother?" Kagome asked.
"You forget I am only half demon." Inuyasha laughed.
"Oh, that's what you meant by him living twice as long as you." She said, now understanding. Inuyasha nodded.
The two of them were quiet for a moment. "Can you tell me more about your mother and father?" Kagome asked shyly. She didn't know if she was pushing any boundaries. 'But he did say I had the right to know everything.' She tried to convince herself.
"Yeah. Hmm.. Where to start." He said, then paused to think. "My mother grew up in a small town in the eastern lands. Her name was Izayoi. My father, Inu No Taisho, was a major owner of the western lands. My father went to the eastern lands to create a treaty with the great dragon demon of the east. When he was on his way home, he found the small town and decided to take a rest. He didn't even know my mother existed until he heard her weeping in sorrow." Inuyasha said.
"Sorrow? Why was she sad?" Kagome asked.
"Her family was arranging a marriage for her since she hadn't found a husband herself." Inuyasha said. "His enhanced hearing heard her cries from across the town and he rushed to find where it was coming from. He found her and she explained to him why she was so upset. My father offered to take her with him to stop the wedding. She took his hand and never looked back. My mother always told me he was like her guardian angel. He saved her from a life of sadness. As they traveled, they got to know one another. She stayed with him for a while and they grew closer and closer. They fell in love and had me." Inuyasha said ending the story.
"So how did they.. Umm.." She stuttered. Inuyasha smiled.
"Die?" He finished for her. She blushed and nodded. "My mother was killed by a jealous man who wanted her for himself. My father protected me and avenged her death and died shortly after."
"How did he die?" She asked.
"Remember how I said earlier that mates can't live without one another? He died of a broken spirit and a broken heart." Inuyasha explained. Kagome lowered her head.
"That's so sad." Kagome said. Inuyasha slip off his chair onto his knees in front of Kagome. He wrapped his hands around hers and made her look in his eyes. Kagome felt her body melt at the sight of his amber eyes.
"But their together again. Their happy." He told her softly. "And they helped up come together." Kagome smiled and placed one of her hands on her chest over her heart.
'Thank you.' They both thought in unison without even knowing.
