Unexpected Turn of Events

Five months went by. It was now the beginning of summer and the group has done their usual traveling and pursuit of Naraku. Unfortunately, all this time they only retrieved one shard of the jewel. Kagome knew why the pickings were becoming so thin. Naraku must have most of jewel now. And she knew that the group would run into him soon.

Inuyasha and Kagome decided to not make their relationship more complicated than it already was. They were trying their best to just stay friends because they knew that they would eventually part in the end and they didn't want to make it harder than it already is. But this plan was backfiring. Frustrations grew because they can't touch each other affectionately and it always ended up in some petty argument as usual.

With the change of weather, Kagome had stripped herself of her white haori with just her snug armor and hakama on. Her armor was cut low on her back that ended at her waist. She had tied her hair up and shown off her smooth back. This drove Inuyasha crazy. Everyday his restrains his demon painfully down from convincing him to pounce on her. A mixture of his frustrations and the summer's heat was getting to him. He figured he would snap from stress eventually.

“Sango!” the monk cried out causing Inuyasha to snap out of his thoughts of the miko. Kagome ran over to the warrior who collapsed on the ground. Miroku lifted Sango up on her knees. “What happened?! Are you alright?”

Sango brought her hand to her head. “I'm ok. I just suddenly felt dizzy. It must be the heat.”

“Maybe you should drink some water,” Kagome suggested. Sango acted as though the word `drink' triggered something in her stomach. She rose up and ran to a bush to heave out her breakfast.

“Poor thing,” Shippo said while perched on Miroku's shoulder. “The heat made her sick.”

“Kaede's village isn't far from here. Let's get her some shade and water. And while we're there we might as well stock up on supplies,” Kagome said.

“What?! But we can waste time dilly dallying! We need to look for the shards. We should just drop her off and get going. She'll catch up with Kirara when she feels better.” Inuyasha said.

“But Inuyasha, we've been traveling for two months now with no sign of the shards or Naraku. Plus I'm all out of food and I could use a break.” Kagome pressed. He reminder of his precious ramen being eaten up made the hanyou give in.

“Fine. But the second that she's back on her feet we're off.” He said. “Now let's get going.” Kirara transformed to her larger state and Miroku helped Sango mount her. Shippo stayed with Miroku while Inuyasha picked Kagome up and leapt off to Kaede's.

-----

Kagome climbed out of the well into her own era with Inuyasha behind her. She wiped the sweat off of her forehead and proceeded to her house. She sighed in relief when she opened the door to feel the cool air from the AC unit blow on her.

“Ah!” the girl stretched in happiness. “Well, I'm going to take a quick shower.” She started up the stairs before Inuyasha stopped her.

“What?! Kagome, I'm not here to waste time you know! Just get the stuff and let's go.” He huffed out.

“Ten minutes, I promise it won't take long,” she hurried up the stairs and disappeared from his sight. He growled in frustration and made his way to the kitchen.

“Oh! Inuyasha. You and Kagome back for a visit?” Mrs. Hirugashi asked as she was slicing an apple on the counter.

“Just to stock up on supplies, sorry.” He replied.

“I haven't seen you in a while. Did you ever get that bow to Kagome last Christmas?”

“Yeah, I did. She liked it. A lot.” He said with color on his cheeks. She handed him a cold slice of fruit. He huffed a little and sunk down on a chair at the table.

“Is something the matter, dear?” She asked as she joined him at the table.

“Well, we were just traveling and a friend of ours got sick. She just collapsed out of the blue and threw up. She blamed it on the heat but she had plenty of water and food. I just don't understand it.” He explained. The woman in front of him paused in thought for a moment.

“Could she be pregnant?” she asked. He raised his eyes at her.

“Pregnant?! She can't be pregnant! She-“ Inuyasha paused for a moment. He shot up from his chair and made his way to the pantry. He loaded up Kagome's bag full of ramen and made his way out of the kitchen. “I'm gonna KILL that monk!!” he fumed.

Just in the nick of time, Kagome came down stairs drying her wet hair. He grabbed her hand and dragged her out the door.

“Inuyasha! What are you doing?!” she yelled.

“Sango's in trouble,” he said and headed towards the well house and dragged her back to the feudal era.

------

After Inuyasha told Kagome of his suspicion, Kagome went into Kaede's hut to find her sitting up in the bed. She relayed her information.

“Pregnant?” Sango asked and blinked in confusion. “No! I can't be that's ridiculous! I haven't-“ She was cut off by the look Kagome was giving her. The look that she reserved for Inuyasha mostly but was now lashed out at her. She felt the hanyou's fear.

Sango sighed. “Ok. Maybe I'm a little pregnant.” She confessed.

“Sango! How come you never told me with what's going on with you and Miroku?” Kagome asked.

“I didn't mean to do it. It just happened! That pervert got to me! I didn't think something like this would happen. We only did it a couple of times.” She said.

“You love him don't you?” she asked.

“Well,” a blush came on her cheeks. “Yeah. I do. Helplessly. I'm sorry, Kagome. It looks like my journey with you has ended.”

“No, that's not true, Sango. You may not be able to travel with us, but maybe someday we'll raise our children together in this village. Our journey is far from over.”

Sango smiled and hugged her. Kagome returned her hug. “Kagome?”

“Hmm?”

“Bring Kohaku home for me…”

“Of course.”

****************

Inuyasha perched on a rock and glared at the monk. Miroku felt uneasy not knowing why his companion was looking at him like that. He started to sweat not only from the heat but from his nervousness. Kagome appeared in the clearing the two men were sitting at. Inuyasha looked up at her with questioning eyes. As if she heard his question consciously, she nodded.

“I knew it! Not until recently but I knew it, monk! You just couldn't keep your hands off, could you?” He lashed out his anger. Miroku's eyes just widen in even more confusion.

“What are you talking about?” he asked.

“Don't play dumb with me! You know what you did!” the hanyou pointed a finger at his face.

“Inuyasha, he doesn't know.” Kagome said which calmed him momentarily.

“What don't I know?” Miroku asked.

Kagome sighed. “You need to go see Sango.”

-----

Miroku stared in awe at the demon slayer in front of him. She just told him the news a moment ago and it started to make her nervous when he just sat there without a response.

“Miroku?” she called. Suddenly she found herself glomped. He embraced her and laughed.

“Oh, Sango! My life's pursuit has finally emerged!” He cheered. She struggled against him.

“Miroku! Let go of me! Ah!” Sango felt his hand graze over her bottom.

SMACK

Miroku laughed as he rubbed his reddened cheek. “Sango! You don't need to do that anymore. You're with me, remember?”

“That's no excuse, you pervert!” she shouted. “You can't treat me like an object to play with!”

“Gomen! I just can't help myself. You're so beautiful.” She blushed a little before he kissed her. She accepted him and wrapped her arms around his neck.

********

Kagome rolled up her pant legs and dipped her feet in the cool water. Inuyasha joined her.

“Inuyasha? Do you think Miroku will stay with Sango here?” she asked.

“I dunno. Who cares?”

“If he does then I would want Shippo to stay too. We won't be able to protect him when our group shrinks.”

“You mean you want to face Naraku with just the two of us?” He asked.

“No, actually. We can gather some others that will fight with us.”

“Really? Like who?”

“Well, I'm not sure. Perhaps maybe, Koga can help out. Ayame, too. Sesshoumaru and Jaken. Totosai.”

“WHAT?! Are you crazy?! You just listed most of our ENEMIES!” He growled.

“Inuyasha! You really need to push aside your differences and work with other people whether you like it or not! Sesshoumaru would be a huge help. You and I were enemies once and we've managed. All I'm asking is you do the same for the others!” She yelled back.

He stared down at his feet in the water. “Grrr. You make it sound so easy.”

“I never said it's going to be easy. Nothing really is but we need to try. Please, Inuyasha. We've managed this far.” He met her eyes. The beautiful dark pools he'd always found himself lost in.

“I'll try,” he said with a little strain in his voice. She leaned in and rested her head on his shoulder.

“Thank you, Inuyasha.”
