A New Family

“Lord Sesshoumaru!” Rin called and shot up from her seat to make her way over to the youkai. This was the usual ritual of Sesshoumaru's arrival for the young girl. She was always so excited about him, maybe even obsessed. Kagome wondered whether or not if it was a bad thing.

“Rin,” the lord greeted her back then called Jaken over to him. The stubbly toad demon made his way over in a hastily manner.

“Yes, my Lord?” Jaken answered.

“Take the extra bed roll for our guest from Ah-Uh's pack. Patrol the area afterwards and be on your best guard; there is a wolf demon lurking around,” he commanded and made is way and sat down against the base of a sturdy oak.

“Guest?” Kagome's cheeks pinked a little at the title. She was actually flattered at his words. All the time she's been traveling and helping out his rival brother and some how earned a little respect from this cold-hearted demon. Maybe he took pity on her for the other demons' behavior, or perhaps he was just trying to be on her good side so she'll help him take advantage of Inuyasha's abilities. She would never know, though, that it was only in his heritage of royal hospitality.

Rin helped Jaken with the bedroll and delivered it to the miko. Kagome thanked her and set her own bed, denying Rin to do it for her. She felt a little uncomfortable being waited on.

Kagome had a little trouble sleeping. She never slept in the forest without Inuyasha with her before. After a couple of hours, a strange humming rang in the air. Kagome lifted her head up and looked over to the sound's direction.

Rin was happily humming a tune as she was knelt down by Sesshoumaru with a brush, grooming his fluffy boa that wrapped around his shoulder. The youkai seemed oblivious to her intentions. He was sleeping. It was strange watching him sleep. How can a cold-hearted demon with such a rough interior look so peaceful? He reminded Kagome of Inuyasha in so many ways.

Inuyasha.

Kagome looked up into the canopy in the forest. The fire's flickering glow revealed two peering, golden eyes from above. She felt a hundred times better, knowing he was perched in the tree watching over her like he always had. The young miko turned over into a peaceful slumber.

The young incarnation stood coldly on a cliff's ledge staring down the horizon before him. The taller, woman stood elegantly mischievous with her back to him.

“Hakudoshi?” Kagura called, trying to figure out their next move.

“Kagura,” the boy whipped his white hair back as he peered at her with pale, purple eyes. “Naraku is disturbed. His lust for this… Kikyo is still weakening him.”

The tall woman of wind spun around in curiosity. “But I thought Naraku abandoned his heart in that forsaken mountain. How can he still desire her?”

“Naraku didn't realize that even if Omigomu's heart is gone, he still possessed some of the weaknesses of humans. Don't forget Naraku welded his body with a human's to be born. He still strives on that flesh,” the boy explained. “The only thing Naraku accomplished by ridding his heart from his body is his ability to touch Kikyo without subjugation.”

“So what are you getting at?” Kagura asked.

“The only way for Naraku to rid himself from this desire is if it is met. Naraku must mate with Kikyo.”

At that comment Kagura snorted out a laugh then added, “How can he do that? She's made of clay and bones. She's practically dead.”

“Yes, that does create a problem. But there is a rumor that when Kikyo died, she was reincarnated.”

“Reincarnated? You mean that strange little wench Inuyasha travels with?”

“Kagura, I need you to go on an errand.”

At that Kagura sighed and narrowed her empty red eyes. She grabbed a feather from her hair pin and took flight on the transformed vessel.

“Houshi!!!” the woman screamed in anger as she lounged a kettle at the monk.

“Ah! Sango!” Miroku ducked out of the way. “Please don't be rash! I didn't do it!” Miroku now learned that a pregnant demon slayer is much scarier than anything he encountered in his entire life.

“How many times have I told you not to keep your fushiji ink in reach of little children during the night?!” She yelled. Sango was sporting a fine work of art on her face with a black ring around one eye and parallel lines on her cheeks. Miroku displayed a similar illustration on his own face.

“I hid it well last time I have no idea how he found it! I put it right behind your demon gas pellets. I never thought he'd go anywhere near them!” The monk scratched his head with a nervous chuckle.

“That little fox needs to be taught a lesson! He's been acting up ever since Kagome and Inuyasha left.” In pure frustration, Sango picked up her Hiraikotsu and made her way to the door. Miroku quickly slipped in front and blocked her path, placing a hand on her shoulder.

“Now, now. Sango think of the baby. Rage is not healthy for development.” Miroku was actually trying to spare Shippo's life and much more of his own.

“Grr… Fine! Then you take care of him.”

“Say what?” Miroku blinked in the turn of events.

“He needs to be punished for the little tricks he's been pulling. Without Inuyasha around, you are the only male head around here. Plus if you ever want your lecherous appetite fed ever again then I suggest you get your monk-ass out there!”

And that was the moment Miroku retreated out of the hut in the most urgency he ever could experience. Never EVER mess with a much beautiful, pregnant demon slayer.

Kagome wasn't the first to arise that morning. When she looked around, Sesshoumaru was still lying against the tree but his eyes were open and watching her in a way that made her skin crawl. He was glaring at her! What did she do? She shifted to arise from her bedroll but was pulled back against something warm.

“Quit moving,” he mumbled sleepily against her neck. She smiled warmly and rubbed the familiar claws that wrapped around her abdomen so protectively. The youkai wasn't glaring at her, but his must hated brother who took it upon himself to share the girl's bed. Kagome turned over to her protector. She found that he had his purple, jagged marks on his cheeks like when he transformed, but he wasn't transformed. His claws and fangs remained the same as usual. He wasn't growling but more like purring out a low rumble as he slept. Inuyasha sighed in his sleep and held her closer.

The young girl cracked a smile that was bright as the sunshine and smoothed the pads of her fingers across his demon marks. She quite liked them, they seemed to define his features more but why were they there?

“Inuyasha, time to get up,” She rang as she poked his nose playfully causing a fluffy triangle on his head twitch in reaction. His golden eyes eased open to her beautiful smile. He would die a thousand deaths to wake up to her smile every morning. And it could be arranged with Sesshoumaru's Tenseiga, no doubt he'll be happy to oblige. Inuyasha then gave off a huge yawn that seemed related to a lion's.

“Someone slept well last night,” Kagome said.

“Keh, I had to lay down with you. You were calling me in your sleep as if you were in trouble or something. You settled down right away though,” he replied then turned his attention to his glaring brother with a smirk. “And it looks like you had it good last night. Slept hard as a rock, didn't you?”

Sesshoumaru huffed in offense and pondered vigorously on what Inuyasha was talking about. After a few seconds a patch of color caught the right corner of his eye. As he turned his head, his nose smacked against something smooth and smelly. His whole fluff was the home of a plethora of wild flowers. Kagome giggled quietly at the sight, he looked as if he was a first place horse at the races, sporting off a wreath of colorful spring.

The youkai rose to he feet and brushed the flowers off of him calmly as a king would do. He took a few steps then paused at a strange feeling that something still wasn't quite right.

“Hn…” he then brushed his claws through his hair to unravel a few braided strands then continued out of the campsite to find Rin and lecture her.
