Chapter Five-Confessions and Blood

"What have I done?" he said, his heart dropping into his feet.
Kagome was sobbing. He could still taste her blood in his mouth. He didn't do this. He couldn't have done this. The muscles in his hand let go of the sword he held. It clattered onto the ground, making a noise that shot through his mind, stabbing him. He fell to his knees, his legs copying his hands.
"No. No."
Sango came up to him, raising her hand above her, preparing to come down. But Kagome made some sort of noise, effectively taking Sango's attention away from him. She rushed to Kagome's side, picking her off from the ground. Sango searched around, and then grabbed InuYasha's clothes. First, she wrapped his jacket around her, and then roughly threw his pants at the still stunned InuYasha.
"Cover yourself." she demanded, continuing to comfort Kagome.
As he did what he was told, Miroku came wandering onto the scene. InuYasha doesn't remember what happened next, his mind only focusing on the image of Kagome crushed beneath him. How could he do that to her? She looked so pained, so violated. How could he have hurt her? How?! Suddenly he felt a hard pain across his face and he looked up at Sango. Kagome and Miroku were gone, only him and Sango. His life was going to end soon. He knew it. Sango was going to kill him.

Kaede could barely believe her eyes. She was so sure InuYasha had been mistaken, maybe some wishful thinking brought on by guilt and grief. But sure enough, there she came. Miroku was carrying her yellow bag. Why was it so full? Kagome wasn't planning on staying, was she?
"Lady Kaede," Miroku shouted, "Is there a place for Lady Kagome to stay for tonight?"
"Of course. But why has ye returned so soon."
"My family is on vacation."
Even though it was mid-day, Kagome still found herself drifting to sleep inside of Kaede's hut. The hut was completely empty beside her, the others choosing to go outside, to leave Kagome in peace. All of the pressures of the last few days, not to mention the time change from her time to the past, had really wearied Kagome down.
She found herself able to sleep even with the busy day noises happening all around her. It was kind of comforting to know some people were going about their lives, unaffected by the little drama in her life. It made it seems not so big, not so overwhelming.
Later, when dust was settling over the land, Kagome decided she was going to take a bath in the hot springs. They were a little far off, but she needed it. Sango insisted she come with Kagome, much to her dismay. She was sure Sango would press her to the real situation. Kagome wasn't ready. She just wasn't ready to face it yet.
She slipped into the warm water. Kagome let out a pleasured moan. How she loved the feeling she got when she soaked here. Sango joined her, watching Kagome like a hawk. Kagome shivered, despite the warmth of the water. Why did she have to ruin this?
"Kagome."
No, Sango, she begged silently, don't ask. Just let it go. Kagome dunked her head under water, hoping to some how convince Sango to leave her alone. She didn't want to talk. She stayed under as long as she could, before her lungs demanded oxygen.
She slowly rose up, letting only her nose rise above the silver barrier. Maybe Sango wouldn't see her and forget all about her questions. But as her eyes cleared of the water, she saw Sango staring at her intensely. She hadn't forgotten.
"Kagome." she repeated.
"Sango, can't I just take a bath without-"
"What's wrong? What happened?"
Sango had to be so blunt. Why did she have to ruin this? Damn it. Kagome didn't need this. It hit her so hard. There was nothing she could say. She couldn't lie, Sango would see right through it. She felt so cornered. So incredible cornered and like her life was falling apart and her inside were being ripped out and laid on the ground. Before she knew what was happening she was sobbing.
"Sango, please don't make me-I-just leave me alone. Please. Just leave me alone. Please"
"I can't. Something's wrong. Tell me. No matter what it is I can help."
"Sango, I-"
She had to dig, didn't she? She had to keep poking at Kagome, had to keep trying to find the fault. Kagome felt everything crumble. This was impossible. What the hell was her big plan? To surprise everyone in nine months. To lie her way through this. What the hell did she think she was going to do? To marry InuYasha and live happily ever after. What was wrong with her?
"I'll go back." she screamed at Sango, "I go back, just stop yelling at me."
"I'm not yelling and if you don't want to go back-"
"Stop it. Please stop."
Sango had never seen Kagome like this. She was breaking apart like soap in water, floating along the silvery surface just like the tears from her eyes. She was holding her ears, blocking some painfully loud sound she could only hear. Tears were running down her face in rivers. Sango drifted closer to try and comfort her but she just slap her away backing up from Sango with the look of pure terror, the look of a frighten cornered animal at the end of it's rope.
"Kagome, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-"
"Just leave me alone. I didn't mean for this to happen, OK. I didn't mean to get pregnant. I didn't want any of this. Stop yelling at me."
It all made sense to Sango. In a one fatal moment, it all made sense. Her sudden return was because her family had disowned her. Without warning, the angry that had subside toward InuYasha now came burning up her spine. That bastard did this to her. That bastard broke Kagome. Kagome curled up into a ball.
"I can't do this." she sobbed, barely understandable because of the way her voice choked in her throat.
Sango embraced her, completely ignoring Kagome struggles. She forced her to stay still, waited in till she stops fighting and just began to cry unrelentingly against her shoulder. Kagome kept sobbing almost impossible to understand statements about fear and feeling overwhelmed. But Sango answered them all with her own gentle reassurance.
It didn't matter what she said as long as she was there. Kagome was scared and alone. She needed Sango. Kagome confessed her soul, confessed everything. She was sure Sango didn't understand a word she was saying, but she got the important part. She got the most vital information from all of her sorrowful words combined with tearful sobs and confessions.
Kagome was terrified and pregnant.
Why the hell did she come back? InuYasha paced the ground kicking up rocks that was foolish enough to be in his path. What was she thinking? Did she think it was funny to torture him like this? To flaunt the damage he did to her. Was this her way of getting back at him? Is that why she told Sango to let him live? He let out a scream of frustration.
Tears fell down his face. He hadn't been crying much, but this was killing him. Why did this have to happen? Wasn't his life painful enough? Damn it all to hell!! The tears continued to slip past his lids. If Kagome was doing this to spite him, she had the right to. If she wanted to, she had the right to torture him for the rest of his life.
Another unfortunate rock was kicked into oblivion. Why did she come back? This time the thought wasn't as harsh. It was an honest worry. She couldn't have wanted to be back here, to have to face that day again. What was here for her? She had her family, her 'tests,' and plenty of normal boys that didn't turn into monsters if they lost their swords. Wait, modern boys didn't have swords. Who cared? All that mattered was that he hurt her. Hell, the damn cat was better than anything he could offer her. Anything was better than this.
He sat down abruptly. His mind began to drift. Images of the women in his life came flooding him. His mother. Kikyo. Kagome. They all ended up crying because of him. Two of them had lost their lives because of him. One of them had lost something just as dear. What was it about him that causes such pain to those he loved?
He felt a misplaced giggle escaped his throat. Love. He loved Kagome. The statement had never had such easy access to his conscientiousness thought before. He had always pushed aside roughly. Love made him weak. Make him soft and that would destroy him. What a false concept. It wasn't him that was destroyed by his love, but the one he loved.

Kagome turned to the growl. Her eyes darting back and forth looking for the source of the threatening sound. A flash of red caught her attention and there stood InuYasha. At first he seemed fine. He moved like nothing was injured. Then her gazed followed up to rest on the blood red eyes that glared hungrily at her. She felt a panic she had never felt before and her blood ran cold. What happened? Why was he this way? She took a step back, preparing to flee. He sat back on his legs, ready to pounce. Realizing that she didn't have the time to run, Kagome took in a breath and opened her mouth to scream her magic word. InuYasha got to her first, slamming her against the ground with such force that the world went dark for a moment. When the world came back into focus, she felt his hair under her chin. Her body laid still, not quite caught up with her mind. Pain shot from her neck, and she felt her own blood spill from her into his mouth. He was going to kill her, she thought. Her mind offered her last resort, to use the 'sit' word even if he was on top of her. If it dragged him out of this state, it was worth the pain it would cause. She opened her mouth attempting her last hope, but he had reached up and took possession of her with his mouth. Her eyes widen. What was he doing? His sharp fangs ripped effortless through the tender skin of her mouth and his claws searched down her, slicing through fabric. What was he doing? He started to take off his own clothes, surprising taking more care with that than he was with Kagome, herself. She was too stunned to even react when he lifted himself off her to finish undressing himself. He lowered his body back down, taking his blood covered claws back to her body. Ripping off the thin fabric that covered her, ignoring the skin he was taking up with it. Her mind finally began to accept what was happening and it came crashing onto her in a violent storm of fear. He was going to rape her.

Miroku was frightened when Sango brought back a shaking, sobbing Kagome. He had never seen Kagome this way. She could barely walk, she wasn't even trying to. Her feet dragged beneath as if they were made of some soft material that couldn't possible support her weight. The paleness of her face and the way her eyes, blood-shot and swollen, down cast refusing to look at anyone chilled him to his core.
"What happened?" he gasped, he couldn't help but think back to when he had to carry a barely alive Kagome to the village, hastily clothed in a mud covered firerat coat.
Had she been attack again? Sango shot him a look that instantly shut him up. He could patiently wait for answers. Kaede quickly came to assist Sango, helping the hysterical Kagome inside. The sight had drawn quite a crowd. Miroku heard a few, "What happened?"s and "Is she going to be OK?"s. He wondered that himself.
He followed them inside, where Kagome collapsed to the floor, and just sobbed. Sango still was trying to calm her, but Kagome just went on and on about how sorry she was. Kaede came up to her with a cup. With a bit of a forceful nature Sango and Kaede got Kagome to drink it, most of the green liquid running down her chin, being washed away by uncontrolled tears.
Sango continued to offered unheard words of comfort. But what ever Kaede had given she was starting to take effect, since her sobbing began to quieting. Her body began less tense. Sango started to rub her back, letting her know she was still there. Now, Miroku could make out words.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean this to happen. I couldn't stop him. I didn't want this to happen. I'm so sorry."
Finally, her body went limp and she looked like she was asleep. Sango haft carried, haft dragged her over the futon she had been sleeping on for the last two weeks. Sango was still offering her comfort, as if she would start up again at any given moment. Miroku sat down, waiting for some explanation. Kaede was the first to ask.
"What in all of seven hells happen to her?"
"She had a break down, that's what happens. That monster got her pregnant and her family has abandoned her. That's what happened!"
Miroku glanced down at Kagome. What she must be going through, her reaction didn't seem even remotely strange. The emotions were still streaming down her face when Shippou came running in, all tears and screams, himself.
"What happened to Kagome? Is she OK? Oh, is she OK?"
The fox tike was grabbing at Kaede in a furry, chanting over the same statements of extreme worry and fear. Kaede picked up Shippou, trying to calm him. At the sight of Kagome, sleeping peacefully, he began to let his scattered breathing to settle.
"Is she OK?" he asked, with much less energy than he had bounced in here with.
"She's fine. Shippou. She is fine. She just needs some sleep, so you need to be quiet." Kaede said to him.
Shippou glance back down at Kagome.
"She'll be OK. Shippou. Everything's going to be fine."
