Chapter 7

Seiya woke up to oddly enough the sound of a rooster which until he'd come to this time had never happened in his life. Even though he was used to the sound of an alarm clock blaring some american or japanese rock music, Seiya found it to be a sort of luxury to be woken like millions of people had been woken before electrcity. Except there was one problem that Seiya had when being woken up like that and that was, well waking up. He wasn't exactly an early morning person, even though according to his watch it was ten in the morning he was sleeping too comfortably to be in a good mood when waking up. But his life debt required him to get out of bed that day and although he'd much rather have stayed asleep he got up and saw that a wash bin had been left in his room for him to use.

He smiled at the gesture that had been made daily by Shiba and Kiba since they knew he wasn't exactly comfortable using the facilities that Rin and Sesshomaru used out of fear that they'd walk in on him. Grabbing a towel and his the cleaning supplies left by Kagome he went about washing his hair and most of his body that could be cleaned without having to strip naked, but since he was visiting a doctor he thought he may as well take what was more crudely known as "the whore's bath," also known as the arm pits, butt, crotch and teeth, along with cleaning his hair. After that he put was about to get ready to change into a fresh pair of clothes when a knock came at his door.

Putting on a fresh pair of boxers and a tee shirt he opened the door to see Rin standing in the door way with what seemed to be a pile of clothes. Smiling at her he asked, "What's with the new threads?" Tilting her head Rin asked, "I thought you used thread to make or fix clothes?" Holding back a fit of laughter Sei said, "No, Rin, threads is another way of saying clothing in my time." Nodding in comprehension Rin said, "I get it, since clothes are made up of alot of different threads of cloth people in your time also call clothing, "threads", correct?" Nodding and extremely impressed at the girls deduction skills Sei said, "That's right, I didn't expect someone in this time to figure it out that quickly." Blushing a bit at the compliment Rin said, "Well, it's not that hard to figure out Sei-san. But, my lord thought it would be wise of you to dress in this era's clothes so as not to rouse any suspicion."

Looking down at the clothes and taking them from her outstretched hands Sei bowed and said, "Thanks Rin, but is it okay if I get something to eat before we go?" Giggling at the sound her friends stomach made Rin said, "Yes, my lord said that you may rise late so if you were hungry when you awoke I'm to take you to the kitchens before we go." But before Sei could say any sort of thanks Rin had already ran off in the direction of the kitchens, leaving him to figure out how to dress himself. The bottom was put on with no problem but having two tops was a problem as he had no idea which part was the top until after five minutes of searching he saw that the top was the part with the bigger holes at the end of the sleeves and soon he was checking himself out as best he could without the aid of a mirror and decided that he probably looked normal enough save for his hair and eyes. Glancing down at the floor he also saw a pair of shoes like Sesshomaru's and thought that he may as well wear them to complete the look of a feudal era man.

When he was done dressing Sei followed his nose in the direction that smelt the most like food and was salivating at the mouth when he opened the door to the kitchen and found some Miso soup and rice waiting for him on one of the small tables where the servants ate when they could. Looking at the table he saw the two dog sprites enjoying a mid morning snack and at catching his scent they smiled and yelled out, "SEI-SAN!!!" and climbed onto his shoulders. Chuckling at their child like attitude Sei scratched each of them on the head for a moment before sitting down and eating his food as the two watched in eagerness for his approval.

But there was no need for them to worry as the tofu melted in his mouth easily and the fish was cooked perfectly along with the rice and the tea was great as usual. When he finished Sei let out a loud, but forced burp, which made the two sprites giggle and Kiba say, "Thanks for the compliment Sei-san." Chuckling at his own forced rudeness Sei said, "Well you guys are good cooks for only being a century old." The two little sprites blushed and said together, "Thank you very much." Sei bowed and took another cup of tea and asked, "Where's Rin run off to?" Glancing at one her twin who just shrugged, and then pondering for a moment Shiba said, "I think she's getting Ah-Un ready at the stables."

Drowning the rest of his tea, Sei stood and bowed to the two and said, "Thank you for a wonderful breakfast you two." The two sprites beamed and stood up and bowed at him and simultaneously said, "You're very welcome Sei-san." Chuckling Sei said, "Well you two I'll be gone for most of the day but can you save Rin and I some dinner?" Nodding eagerly Kiba said, "Hai! We'll try and hold off as long as we can but if Lord Sesshomaru says he won't wait then we'll keep some warm in here for you and Rin-chan." Inclining his head at his friends promise Sei left the kitchen and headed to the courtyard to find Rin waiting patiently with Ah-Un near the gate.

Walking up to her he asked, "You sure you want to take him with us? I mean won't the villagers be a bit frightened?" Smiling Rin shook her head and said, "Not really since they know not to harm us under Sesshomaru-sama's protection and also because Ah-Un is really quite gentle with people depsite being a dragon." Looking the two headed beast over Sei thought to himself, And Michael Jackson's a dad. But just as he thought that the dragon began to nudge him and rub against his arm and make a weird grunting noise.

Worried about what the dragon was doing Sei looked to Rin and asked, "Is he feeling all right?" Giggling from the saddle Rin said, "Yes, he's fiine. It just means that he likes you. Scratch between his eyes and he'll leave you alone." Reaching his hand up cautiously Sei moved his fingers between the dragons eyes and began to rub softly and laughed as the dragon let out a loud purr. Rubbing a bit harder Sei used his other hand to scratch the base of one of the dragons horns and almost soiled himself as the dragon began shoving his head into his hand as the horn was scratched. Looking up at Rin he said, "I guess you do know this guy better than I do." Rin smiled and laughed as she watched Ah-Un start to try and get Sei to rub his other horn. But as the two messed with the dragon they were unaware of to suspicious eyes watching them from the shadows and remained clueless as they rode into town.

It was the first time that Sei had actually left the castle and he was surprised at how beautiful the lands around Sesshomarus familys castle was. It was a highly forested area near the gates of the castle and it wasn't until they left the wooded area that he saw roaming hills and a large river flowing through the area around the village, which was of a moderate size with a bustling business section and he thought to himself I could live here if I didn't have a life on the other side. As they walked on Rin said, "This village has lived in the shadow of Lord Sesshomaru's familys home for a long time. And the people here have had a respectful relationship with the demons who pass through here since they are under the protection of the castles lord."

From his seat on the back of Ah-Un, Sei asked, "How'd you come to learn all this Rin?" Looking back at him Rin said, "Jaken and Sesshomaru-sama explained it to me the first time we visited here after Lord Sesshomaru found me. The castle wasn't at nearly as nice as it was then since my lord had just had the rebuilding begin a year before I showed up. So you're lucky, since you get to stay here when it's not under construction." Sei chuckled and said, "Yeah, that is a blessing. I once stayed at a relatives house for the summer and all day and night the neighbors were having a house built and I went almost three months with no sleep." Rin laughed and said, "Well, at least you had a house to live in. I was sleeping on Ah-Un and the ground most of the time during our travels."

Sei laughed at her comment and said, "You win on the sleep department Rin." The girl giggled and steered Ah-Un down a street and waved to the villagers that hey passed. Many of them returned the gesture with honest smiles but once they caught sight of Sei they immediately turned to their friends and began to whisper. Sei ignored there rudeness as he had dealt with such rudeness for most of his life and waved at the kids who out of their innocence and ignorance had the courtesy to be polite to him. Some of the girls blushed and ran away giggling as he smiled and waved at them to the digust of their parents but instead of giving into their game Sei just nodded at them and let Rin steer them to a small house near the center of town.

Guessing that they were at the doctors Sei hopped down and led Ah-Un to the tethering post and helped Rin down and made sure her kimono was fixed before they walked in to find the old woman already waiting for them with a smile on her face. At the sight of the old woman Rin ran to her and gave her a quick hug and began to talk to the old woman about her creating remedies and antidotes and how she had helped keep Sei alive after her and Sesshomaru found them. Beaming with pride at her student the old woman looked at Sei and said, "This girl is truly incredible. I never really take students but since it was at Lord Sesshomarus request I knew that she was special and for her to create such a complicated remedy in such a short time she is truly a prodigy. I hope you have showed your gratitude young man?"

Blushing a bit at being reprimanded about thanking someone Sei composed himself and said, "I'm currently in a life debt to Lord Sesshomaru in which my main duties of fulfilling the debt are to take care of Rin. So I hope that answers your question doctor?" The old woman laughed and said, "I find that to be a bit extreme but at least you are doing repaying your debt to our lord and this young woman." Looking up at the withered lady Sei nodded and said, "I have my honor to think about and am never one to back down from repaying a debt." He could feel her eyes checking him over and when she was satisfied that he was telling the truth she looked to Rin and said, "Rin, may you go outside for a few minutes while I check him over?" Bowing in compliance Rin headed outside and the two could soon hear her laughing and playing with some of the village children.

With Rin gone the old woman said, "Okay, ummmm I'm sorry dear I forgot to ask your name." Chuckling lightly Sei bowed and said, "Seiya Mizutani, but most people just call me Sei." Bowing to him the old woman said, "Very well Sei-kun. If you will please remove your upper garments I will check your injuries." Feeling a bit nervous about a woman the same age as his grandmother checking his body, Sei removed his upper garments and sat still as the old woman started to check his head. Her hands felt surprisingly strong as she checked him but at the same time she was gentle and he could feel her hands checking the still slightly tender spot where his head had hit the cliff side. It didn't hurt but he felt a slight tickle as her hands parted his hair and she brushed a finger against the scar that had formed and let out a small grunt of approval and said, "You're head has healed exceptionally well and you should be able to return home in two days time." Letting out a sigh Sei was about to say, "Thank you," when the woman moved to his ribs and he let out a small laugh.

Looking up at him she rolled her eyes and said, "Honestly, can't I get one patient who isn't ticklish?" Calming himself down Sei said, "Pardon me, I'm better now so you can finish." Running her fingers along his ribs the woman glanced up to see his lips twitch as he kept his body still and she pressed on his ribs and was glad to hear no complaint from him. Satisfied with his progress she said, "Your injuries have healed up nicely Sei-kun. So I'd say you can go home in two days just as a precaution. I will send a message to the castle to inform Sesshomaru-sama.

Putting his clothing back on Sei asked, "How is it that Lord Sesshomaru has yet to harm you people? I've heard stories that he is rather cruel to humans." The old woman scoffed at the comment and said, "He's a demon and demons aren't exactly fond of humans but as far as I know he doesn't exactly hate humans. He just prefers to ignore their existence. Although we do know of his slaughter of human bandits and needless to say we aren't exactly feeling sympathy the those humans who slaughter villages just for the sake of it. But he's got a good heart buried under that exterior, since he once came to me as a child and asked me how to go about fixing a birds wing."

Tying his haori and standing Sei bowed to the woman and said, "Thank you for your help doctor. I have no means to pay you but if you have any need for help when I'm at the castle I will be more than happy to help." The old woman giggled and said, "Oh don't worry about that dearie. You're a nice boy and under the protection of our lord. And since you've agreed to take care of Rin, I think your debt to me is repayed." Smiling Sei thanked her and walked out the door to find Rin playing ball with some of the village kids.
Walking over to Ah-Un he scratched the beasts horn as they watched Rin play for a few minutes. He was glad that she was able to socialize with the other children, which he was more than positive was why Sesshomaru had sent her to the village to learn different skills. Sei chuckled at the thought of a young Sesshomaru worrying over a little bird and said to himself, "Anyone who'd help a hurt bird can't be all that bad." He was just about to untether Ah-Un when the ball the kids were playing with sailed straight at his head. If he hadn't been looking Sei would have definetly gotten his face smashed in but since he was looking he caught the ball and threw it back to the kids before shouting, "Rin are you ready to go?"

Waving good by to her friends Rin headed over to Sei and climbed up onto Ah-Un and said, "Sei-san, can we get some food?" Sei was about to say no when his own stomach let out a loud growl making the girl laugh and him say, "I guess my stomach is saying otherwise. You know a good place to eat and do you have money?" Giggling Rin said, "There's a nice place that makes squidballs and things near the entrance where we came from and Lord Sesshomaru always gives me some money before I come to town so I don't take advantage of peoples kindness."

Grabbing Ah-Un's tether Sei led them back towards the town entrance with some rather interesting thoughts passing through his head about Sesshomaru. First he's told that he's nothing but a cold hearted murdering bastard, then he's told that he only attacks those he deems a threat, takes care of wounded animals, and now he's learning that the demon lord is teaching a girl how to pay off debts and not take advantage of people? Sighing to himself Sei said, "Just fulfill your debt and nothing else Sei, you have no time for another broken heart." Not realizing he'd just spoken outloud Sei jumped as Rin said, "What do you mean by that Sei-san?" Sei gulped loudly and turned to the girl and said, "Nothing, Rin but I have a question for you." Looking down at him the girl asked, "What is it?"

Smiling at her he said, "Rin what do you think of two people of the same gender falling in love and marrying?" Not sure how to answer that Rin said, "I don't know, I guess as long as they're in love it's nobodys concern but theres as to how they express it. But how do they have babies?" At that question Ah-Un immediately stopped since Sei was now face down in the with a leg twitching in the air as Rin asked, "Sei-san are you all right?" Dusting himself off Sei said, "Yes Rin, I just didn't expect you to ask that question." Giggling Rin said, "Sei-san do you like boys?"

The young man stopped and felt his face freeze and he turned and said, "How could you tell?" The girl giggled even more and said, "Because you wouldn't have asked me otherwise and besides Jaken told me about what you did when our lord complimented you on your Go skills." Sei felt his anger swell and said in a low voice, "I should dump that toad in a pot of hot water when we get back." before saying, "And to answer your question more thoroughly Rin, I like MEN not boys there is a big difference Rin." Nodding Rin said, "I agree Sei-san, but I think Lord Sesshomaru is like you." Gulping Sei asked, "How do you figure?" Blushing Rin said, "Because our lord is almost a millenia old and Jaken said almost all demons of his stature are married by the time they are seven centuries but he's three centuries late so I think it's because he likes males that he isn't married." Shrugging as he stopped the dragon infront of the restaurant Sei said, "Well it's his business not ours about who he loves so let's just leave the subject alone." Rin nodded and climbed down from the dragon and the two enjoyed a rice and squidball lunch while sitting under the mid afternoon sun.

Later that night Sei was sitting in his room enjoying some cakes taht had been made by Shiba and Kiba for dessert and the two young sprites had made good on their promise to keep some food warm for them since he and Rin had decided to stay in the village for the rest of the afternoon. They weren't met by Sesshomaru nor Jaken but Sei felt like they were being watched and had felt that way since lunch and hoped that he was just being paranoid and went back to his riceball while Rin pulled her fried squid off a large toothpick.

Now fully fed and satisfied Sei was reading through an alchemy book to finish his homework when a knock came at his door. Getting up from his studies he opened it to find Sesshomaru standing in his doorway and bowing slightly he said, "What is it my lord?" The demon returned the gesture with a nod and said, "I have received word today that you can leave in two days time and also that my brother will be here in three to take you back." Looking up Sei said, "How's that possible it's at least a weeks journey on foot so how can he be here in three Sesshomaru-sama?" Snorting Sesshomaru said, "He's borrowing that fire cat and is travelling alone so there's room for you two on it. He also says that you better be ready by sun up on the day of his arrival because he wants you out of here as quickly as possible." Sei laughed to himself at Inuyashas worry over him and said, "I will be ready my lord."

Sesshomaru was about to bid Sei good night when a small little demon with bat wings appeared out of nowhere and said, "Sesshomaru Lord of the Western Lands, I bring a letter from the Demon Council." Snorting Sesshomaru took the small parchment from the bats hands, ripped it open and scowled as he read before saying, "Very well, I will be there in three weeks as stated and tell your master not to send spies to my castle if all he has is a letter for me." Snickering the little bat bowed and then in a small puff of smoke disappeared into the shadows while Sesshomaru said, "I will need you in three weeks boy to watch over Rin while I go to this council and I also have your first payment for todays services. Good night." Before he could reply Sei had a coin purse dropped at his feet while Sesshomaru headed in the direction of his rooms leaving Sei to wonder what the letter had said to infuriate the youkai to such an extent.

Next chapter Seiya goes home then after that the demon council!! RR please!!
