Inuyasha and his friends appeared to be asleep. Sesshomaru tiptoed around and grabbed Kagome's bag he always saw around her and took off. When he arrived he saw Kagome held Rin in her arms, keeping her warm and dry from the tiny splashes of the waterfall. He watched in adoration until Jaken stirred and opened his big mouth. Kagome moaned and turned to see the commotion. “You're awake. Here is your bag. It's design is… quite strange.”

She finally sat up and was wide awake. Kagome looked up at him still shy and timid. He tossed her the bag and sat next to the fire. `Is he actually being nice to me? Is him being nice even possible? … Must be, I can tell he takes good care of this girl, Rin. Wow she's lucky!' It was starting to feel awkward so she broke the silence. “Why did you take me away?”

“If you must insist on inquiring the same matter repeatedly, then I shall enlighten you. I require you as an object to lure Naraku toward me. As you've observed, Naraku is quite powerful but tends to avoid being perceived by those hunting for him. I too am one of those he is avoiding. So in order to kill him, I had to have you in my possession.”

“But why are you trying to kill him?”

“How dare you question Master Sesshomaru?!” interrupted Jaken.

“Jaken. Silence.” He turned to Kagome. “You should rest. You're needed to be kept healthy for the vigorous journey ahead.” Kagome gave him an unsure look and tried to pretend she was asleep for hours, but she was afraid to let her guard down around Sesshomaru. He sat there starring at the flicker of the flames all night.

When morning came, Kagome was the last to awaken. Rin and Jaken played in the stream. Sesshomaru watched her carefully, incase a demon fish would try to attack them. Then he turned to see Kagome walking toward him. `What is she plotting?' He kept watching in suspicion. “Good morning Sesshomaru!” She gave him a big hug and he glared at her. “What are you doing?” he asked.

“I'm just thought I'd hug you as an appreciation for treating me so well!”

“Well don't look too deep into it. I'm only doing this to get Naraku.” He glared at her. “I'd slit your throat and bring you to your demise if I had no use for you.” Kagome backed away and went back into the cave for her backpack.

Naraku had finally tracked them down. He hid in the forest around them. Sesshomaru sensed him nearby. “Sesshomaru. You are making me angry. Give me the girl and I will spare your servants' lives.” Sesshomaru looked up and down the stream. Neither Rin nor Jaken were spotted. “I see how you want to play it.” Sesshomaru jumped into the trees and attacked at Naraku, but he disappeared under the pelt. His laugh echoed through the forest. Sesshomaru returned to check on Kagome. She was safe in the cave rummaging in her weird bag. “Get up.” He demanded.

“What?” she looked surprised. “Already?”

“We must make haste and go. Come!”

“Shouldn't we wait for Rin and Jaken?”

“Naraku has taken hostage of them! Now Come! We must hurry!” Kagome scrambled to her feet and clumsily followed him to a clearing near the stream. “Ah, Un!” he shouts. A two-headed dragon come flying from out of nowhere and Sesshomaru throws Kagome aboard. “Hey!” They took off.

… Inuyasha Dreams.

 

Naraku's aura is seen howling like the wind and blowing trees over. Inuyasha is seen trying to run through the deep mud, but he's being pulled in. “Ahhhhhhhh!” Naraku is laughing at him as he sinks deeper. He charges at Inuyasha and almost tears his head off, but Inuyasha is sinking too fast. A demon living in the mud attacks Inuyasha and bites a leg off. Inuyasha starts running out of breath and tries hard to protect himself against the full demon, but the mud is too thick. Naraku's hand reaches in, grabs Inuyasha by the throat and snatches him out before the full demon can finish him off. Kagome stands engulfed by a swarm of Naraku's poison insects. As Naraku plunges his fist into Inuyasha, fishing for his heart, Inuyasha reaches a hand for Kagome, but the apathy on her face shuns him away. She walks next to Naraku still covered in poison insects, but they soon start eating at Inuyasha. A bright light shines from Kagome and Naraku gets blown away. Inuyasha reaches for her again and Kagome reaches for his hands back, smiling. The swarm flies away and the air starts to clear from Naraku's evil aura. Suddenly a bolt of lightning strikes and thunder shudders the ground. As quick as the flash had came and gone, Kagome's reassuring smile had flipped to a malice grin with sharp teeth. Inuyasha gasps and Kagome slices his stomach and shreds his organs apart.

“He still hasn't awakened! Damn that idiot!” cried Miroku. He left to get supplies for the journey with Shippo and left Sango to look after Inuyasha. He kept tossing, turning, and twitching. `Is he dreaming about something?' She felt his forehead. He was sweating and mumbling. She leaned forward to make out what he was saying.

“…ArahhH! … no.......... Kagome!.. help.. STOOOOOOP!!” He sat up and knocked Sango over. “Kagome! Where's Kagome?!” He shouted at her. “Sesshomaru took her.”

“WHAT?!!!! How did that happen? I'm gonna rip his throat out!”

“Inuyasha, its not what you think. Naraku tried to take her away and Sesshomaru just happened to be around complaining about how loud you were being. I think Kagome is safer with Sesshomaru, the problem is, will he try to hurt hurt and we're still not certain who has her now.”

“Why is she safer with him? You don't think I can take on Naraku?”

“Honestly, no. At least not by self.”

“Hmmf. We'll see. Let him show his ass around here and I'll beat his butt too!... So why didn't anybody wake me up?”

“We did. Several times. But you fell unconscious.”

`Damn that Kagome…' “So where's Miroku and Shippo?”

“They're off collecting supplies.”

“Good idea… Sango?”

“Hm?”

“How long have I been unconscious?”

“A day. We have a long way to go before we catch up with them. So we should leave immediately after Miroku and Shippo arrive.”

… Back at Naraku's hidden lair.

 

He sits in a dark room grinning. A pale little girl holds a mirror for Naraku as he looks in. He watches everything from Inuyasha's dream. Naraku is pleased. The mirror switches to Rin and Jaken in a dungeon. They seem miserable. The mirror switches again to Sesshomaru. His face still appears cold, but he sneaks peeks at Kagome every now and then. `What's this? Does he fancy this human?'

… At the hot springs.

 

Sesshomaru settles at a hot spring. Ah and Un land next to him and allow Kagome off. “Do you wish to bathe?” asks Sesshomaru. She hesitated. `What if he looks at me?'

“Um, sure.” She looked up and froze. Sesshomaru had already disrobed.
