Chap. 14
The next day at school went by quickly. People stopped and stared at Inu and Kagome after school when they walked out holding hands. She liked him this way, above everyone, holy almost.
When he bent down and kissed her cheek she felt like the only girl in the world. And then she realized, it was a fake feeling. She felt fake. Utterly fake.
She kept the smile and blush on her face and sunk into his beauty of a car, then sulked. This was him not her. This popularity to do what ever he wanted. As he walked around the car she got ready to get out, and when he opened his door and sat down she did the opposite.
Walking quickly she started back towards the back of the school, not paying attention to where she was going. “Bitch.” A fist caught her cheek throwing her back.
“Mother fuck- Oh never mind, it's you…” Kagome laughed touching her cheek, and feeling the wet sticky blood now there.
“How dare you? You take him away from me and then all of a sudden your popular! It's a tragedy, you'll be ugly now and forever.” Kikyou went for her face again but missed.
“This will turn out like last time. Are you sure you want to do that?” Kagome smiled menacingly, taking a glance behind her to see Inu coming after her. “I don't have the time for this right now.” She took one swing, knocking Kikyou flat on her butt and took off again.
She ran home, letting the feeling of Inu slip away from her. She loved being in his arms, she loved the feel of his silken body against hers but lord- she loved her time alone.
Kagome took herself up to her room immediately, ignoring her mother's questions. She took out her sketch book for the first time in months, her favorite drawing pencil sliding easily across the paper, and a line appearing.
She watched as her hand moved without a thought drawing herself, the old her- black eye liner lingering from the night before, her lips perfect and unworn, her hair all over the place and not pulled back in the ponytails she had been wearing lately. The pencil moved again, running down to create the old Kagome in clothing, the fishnet torn into rags, and black tank top underneath covering the cleavage now perched in the delicate shirt she wore. This was her.
A knock on the door woke her from her daydream. Inu poked his head in. “Why did you run?” He got straight to the point.
“Are you being fake with me?” Her eyes looked up tears swimming in them. “Are you changing me to fit your standards just to drop me where I stand after your done with me?” She looked away, and back to her sketchbook. “This is me Inu. This girl on this paper. Not the one sitting here now.” She snapped the book shut throwing it away from her. “I'm not trying to be somebody else, but this isn`t me.”
“Kagome, don't leave me. I never asked you to change. I'm not going to leave you, I would never do that. I'm not being fake. What brought this on? I love you Kagome.” He kneeled in front of her, his hand wrapping itself around the nape of her neck, his thumb caressing her cheek. “I love the way you are, I loved the way you were, I will love you if you change. People change.” His lips pressed against her forehead. “I will always love you.”
Her eyes searched his for a lie. There was something she didn't like in what he had said, but she pushed that feeling aside and hugged him close to her, dropping to her knees from the bed. “I can't loose you Inu.”
“And I promise you won't, I swear you won't.” He sighed contently. She nodded then looked back down to the paper, tears in her eyes. He knew he would eventually have to let her go, but not so soon. Homecoming, and prom… He had to take her to prom. Homecoming was… Holy crap. “kagome I have to ask you something now, before anyone even thinks of asking you or me.”
“Sure. Anything.” Her blue eyes looked up at him.
“Will you go to homecoming with me?” He bit his lip afte he stated the question. It seemed funny asking it. He had always been the one asked, not the other way around.
She stayed quiet for a moment, still looking down at the picture. “Do I get to pick my own dress?”
“Of corse and you can go ahead a pick one for prom too.” He shrugged slightly, almost nonchalantly.
“But I'm not…” She turned her face to him, and his fingers softly fell over her mouth to silence her.
“Don't say you're not going because you are.” He stated firmly, no questions asked tone. Her eyes sparkled and he leaned towards her to kiss her cheek. Her soft skin pressed against his lips reassuring him that she was actually there. Sometimes he felt as if she was a dream. No one could be as perfect for him as she was.
