Chapter 23

The morning was quick, faster than he could remember anything in his life going. Souta opened two presents, one from Inu and one from Kagome's mom. Inuyasha got him some video game and Mom got him a CD from his favorite band that put out a new record.

After another movie, Souta went out to sit on the porch with a cup of lemonade and a want to be away from everything for a bit.

“Hey, kiddo. They sent me out here to see if you're okay.”

“I'm fine. Just a bit tired still. Sit with me- I need a testosterone shot.” The kid sat down his cup as Inu dropped beside him.

“Living in a house full of girls is interesting eh?” Souta laughed, and leaned against the porch.

“Yeah, tampons, laces and bras. Yippee.” He smiled at Inu. “Can I get you to promise me something?”

Inu was taken aback and nodded slightly. “Sure, if it's in my ability.”

“Don't ever hurt my sister.” The boy looked up at him and swallowed hard. “She would never come back from that- she's too attached. Please, promise me.”

Inu didn't hesitate. “I promise you I will never hurt your sister.” He smiled at the younger boy and then turned and looked around the quiet street. “Promise me something?”

“Of course.” Souta whispered.

“Promise me you'll go to college and be happy.”

Souta took a sip of his lemonade. “Of course, I promise that.”

Inuyasha stood up. “Testosterone shot complete. Let's go back into Hormone Alley. At least, you've got back up right now.”

The silver haired man held his hand out to the boy, who pulled himself up, clutching his lemonade. “Yeah, but she's about to whisk you up to her room.”

“You just think that.”

The boys entered, smiling and Kagome instantly had Inuyasha pinned with her eyes. Souta was up to no good. She could smell it from where she sat on the couch. Standing, she touched Inu's arm and nodded upstairs. She wanted to know exactly what was going on.

“Told you.” Souta whispered. Inuyasha and Kagome both glared.

Inuyasha told Kagome about the promise he made Souta make. He didn't inform her about the one he made. She didn't need to know- that was between him and the brat.

Now, it was her turn to get a Inu birthday party.

She was watching him, and sketching in her book. He had gotten out of his last class for the week to go sit in her art room with her. “You do this often?”

“Since fifth grade.”

“Sit in a class and just draw people?” He asked softly.

“Yes, normally.” She was blushing. Inu didn't understand. He was her only subject from classes, her only- drawings. She'd painted other things, but drawing- he was the only thing she'd been able to draw for years.

“Let me see.” He had moved towards her, and his breath was warm against her shoulder as he looked over it. Inu's mouth opened and then shut, and then opened again. “Am I looking at a piece of paper or a mirror?”

Kagome laughed. “I assure you it's a piece of paper.” She leaned against him slightly and looked up at him, kissing the bottom of his chin.

He turned his face down to hers and pressed his lips to hers. “Come on senorita, we must go. School's out in ten.” Inuyasha, nuzzled her and then backed up. “Oh, the football team is having a party tonight. You want to go?”

“Sure.” She answered happily. He had forgotten her birthday, thank god. Kagome didn't want a party, no recognition, just a nice long evening at home with Inu. And a good movie. And ice cream. Mmm… Ice cream.

They did homework for awhile. The teacher had delayed that chemistry test. Another blessing today. Studying was hard though, since Inu was still not on task. “You know, you're not getting any if we're going to a party- I'll be sore.” She wrinkled her nose.

“But…” He nuzzled her neck. “Please.”

“Inu. I will die if I don't' get an A on this test. I'll fail and won't graduate- so could you, either focus or leave me alone.” She snapped. Her blue eyes looked at him as they had the first day he had talked to her. With disgust.

“Keh.” He sprawled out behind her on the floor. “It's about time to go anyway.”

She snapped the book shut and continued to stare at him. “You are as bad as a cigarette.”

“You are worse, far worse.” He smiled at her, stood and then lifted her from her hips. “I'll drive. I have the black Mustang tonight.”

“Where's this party?”

“My house.” He kissed her bare shoulder. She had worn just a tank top and jeans tonight. “Take a swim suit and an extra set of clothes. We have free rein of the pool tonight too.”

“Okay.” She reached into her closet and pulled out a two piece black bikini, two shirts and a pair of shorts he wouldn't mind her wearing more often.

They made it out to the car in under five minutes, her mom asking questions all the way out. Kagome had answered them all except for a phone number to contact her. She shrugged and got in the car, ignoring the question.

“I'll have her call you when we get there.” Inu said and then dropped into the car quickly. Peeling out, they both started laughing.

“So what's this party for?”

“Just a get together- the boys wanted something to do where they could bring their girlfriends and just party.” Inu turned a corner leading into an expensive part of town.

“Where do you live?”
