InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Hidden Past, Hidden Self ❯ Enrollment ( Chapter 15 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

I don't own any of the InuYasha characters in this fanfic. The ones I own are Kane-Sakura, Setsuna, and Trowa. Mika is owned by my friend Stephanie, Michi to my friend Nicky, and Yuki (coming in a later chapter) belongs to Danielle.

Last time on The Hanyou's Little Sister:

"She's Miroku's sister?"

"Technically only his half-sister. But you know they're related because of…" Kane picked up the girl's right hand. "…the Kazzana."

"Does it actually suck just like Miroku's?"

"Will you please let go of my arm?!" Michi persisted….

***

Kane bolted right up. "Can we go to the future?! I really want to start school!" Kane squeaked.

Kagome looked over at InuYasha, then back at Kane. "Well, only if you don't get into trouble" Kagome sighed, knowing the inevitable wasn't to be prevented with a warning. "We'll be back in three days."

Kane's excitement level went from zero to sixty in a matter of seconds as she bounced off the walls the whole way to the well. Mika got so annoyed at the hanyou, that she almost stayed her a million times over into the ground. Michi was confused as to what was so exciting that she was in a daze. Then again, she was so excited to finally meet her brother that she irritated him as well by hanging on him the whole way to the well.

Once all of them were in the future, Kagome left on one final note. "Don't terrorize the town and please don't destroy the house." She left very reluctantly….

***

"INUYASHA!!!" Kagome yelled out as the mysterious man pulled the sword out of Kane's brother. "What do you want with his sister; why are you doing this?!" Kagome demanded as she knelt by the bleeding hanyou, her bow drawn and an arrow out of its quiver and pointed at the man.

"I, the great Ren-Tao, have to gain vengeance from his sister for killing my comrades." The man now known as Ren-Tao closed his eyes. "That bitch deserves to die for all she committed against my clan."…

***

"Oi dog-boy! Where's your sister?" Setsuna suddenly leapt out of the foliage and landed in front of InuYasha.

When InuYasha had an idea pop into his head, it made him laugh slightly at the prospect. Even though his idea wasn't something he'd normally want to do, he really had no choice in the matter. As long as Setsuna didn't touch his sister, InuYasha was willing to let Setsuna go to his sister and protect her while he found Ren-Tao. "Hey Setsuna, I have a favor to ask you."

Chapter 15: Enrollment

In the future, the sun was just beginning its golden assent when Kane woke with a start. She sat up, huffing; sweat pouring down her face, back and chest. `What a nightmare.' She rubbed her forehead with her thumb and index finger. `I hope that never happens to me in real life.' She reminisced to the dream and shivered at the prospect of it coming true; of running down a dark path with no light to guide her way, yet desperately searching for InuYasha, Trowa and Setsuna; of coming across some demon with a sword protruding from his hand and slashing all of her loved ones to pieces and watching them die in their own pools of blood; of looking at this red-haired man as he turned and said "Vengeance is…"; and of unsheathing Teretsu to destroy this man, even when you knew there was no chance of your winning.

"Kane, is everything all right?" Michi rubbed her eyes and stared at the sweating, distressed hanyou.

"Uh…yeah, I-I'm fine. I just need to, uh go out for some fresh air." Kane uncovered herself from her sweat-soaked sheets and stood. "I'll be right back."

Michi reached over and poked Mika in the ribs. "Mika? Hey Mika?" Then she shook her a little more. "I think something's wrong with Kane."

"You don't need to mention anything; I heard her crying in her sleep and your conversation with her." Mika opened her eyes. "She was either remembering something from her past or she saw something in her dream that deeply disturbed her."

"Should we talk to her?"

"Iie, let her come to us. She will if she really wants to." Mika rolled over and fell into a light sleep again. Michi stayed up and looked at the closed door, wondering what had caused Kane to become so upset.

Kane splashed some cold water onto her face in the bathroom, trying to get a grip on reality. After she'd dried her face, she stared at her face in the mirror. "Who was that demon? And what did vengeance have to do with me?" Kane studied her amber eyes and noticed that they were puffy and red from crying in her sleep.

She went to the small window and opened it. Sticking her face into the crisp, morning air, Kane drew in deep breaths of the Cherry blossom scented air. But then her nose caught the scent of more than the trees in the distance. "I think I know that scent!" She dashed out of the bathroom and to the front door. She ran with her bare feet slapping the stone ground to the well house, the source of the smell coming from there. She flung the doors open and saw a shadowy figure sitting on the lip of the well. Her eyes adjusted to the dim light of morning and saw, "Setsuna?! What're you…how did you…?"

"Your brother told me to come here. He doesn't want you to come back until `certain things' have been taken care of." Setsuna stood and smiled.

`It was all a dream; my nightmare wasn't real.' Kane let the tears fall from her eyes as she lunged forward to embrace Setsuna. "Oh Setsuna! I had the most horrible dream! It felt all too real!" Kane tightened her grip on him as if he might disappear if she didn't hold on to him; almost like the dream would rip her from reality.

Mika and Michi peeked into the shrine and snickered. "Kane likes Setsuna." Mika sang like a songbird. Michi didn't know who this guy was, but her flirty nature told her that she wanted to know as soon as possible.

Kane heard their mirth from behind the doors, and she said two little words; "Beg! Heel!" They both hit the ground hard.

After breakfast, washing up, and getting dressed, Kane started towards school. She left with her own warning to the three demons. "Stay here; I don't want chaos in the city of Tokyo."

The school's melodic bell rang, meaning a new day of classes was beginning. The students took their seats in the science room as the teacher prepared his lecture.

Second hour began calmly enough. Japanese literature was so boring, Kane began to nod off in the middle of the teacher's sermon. But she was soon awakened when she heard a loud tapping noise by the far window. Kane sat up and the noise stopped. Thinking nothing of it, Kane returned her attention to the front of the room. When it started up again, Kane looked over her back and towards the window. She saw…Mika staring at her and tapping on the glass with her finger nail.

Turning around as quickly as possible, Kane swore mentally, saying that she'd get her revenge on Mika after school. Then she looked up at the window above the chalkboard. Michi was waving at her with her other hand holding out a peace sign. Kane let a sweat drop fall from her forehead.

`Time for drastic measures to be taken.' Kane took in a deep breath, stood up, and said, "Sorry to interrupt." Her hand flew up to her mouth and she ran out of that room in a panic, pretending she had to puke really bad.

Kane burst out of the doors and ran towards the windows. There they were, Mika and Michi, both sitting on one window sill now, giggling in delight. Kane cleared her throat and said the magic words, "BEG!! HEEL!!" They looked Kane's way just before being pulled down to the ground from the second story.

Once the dust had cleared, Kane walked over to the two girls and stood over them, glowering. "What the hell do you think you're doing?! Are you deaf or something?!" The sun caught Kane's black necklace and it gleamed. Mika looked up, smirked and said, "Stay!" After Kane had fallen, Michi laughed hysterically.

"Itai! I didn't deserve that! I could've sworn I told you both to stay at Kagome's. Finally able to stand, Kane glared at Mika angrily.

Michi tried to duck in between the two to stop the argument. The other two knocked her on the head with their fists. Can you say "Swirly-eyed monk"?

"We got bored!" Mika countered.

"So? I don't care if you `got bored', it doesn't mean you had to leave the premises!"
"You said, `Stay here' and we thought `here' was the city of Tokyo!" Kane fell on `stay', but popped her head right back up.

"Liar! You know…!"

"Stay!" Michi yelled out, making Kane's head delve back into the ground. But when she tried to "Heel!" Mika, nothing happened. "Wh-why isn't it working?! Heel, heel, heel!!" She yelled out in frustration.

"Ain't gonna happen." Mika laughed at the discouraged monk. Michi steamed with anger, and then brought out a demon whistle.

"FWEE!!" The highest pitch that Mika could hear caused her to go stiff and fall to the ground. Her hair was literally standing on end.

"Whoa Michi! How'd you do that?!" Kane-Sakura asked as Mika twitched on the soil.

"This whistle is an inheritance from my mother. Different pitches affect different demons." She explained proudly.

"Neato." But Kane's distraction didn't last long. "Okay, both of you go back to Kagome's. I've got school…"

"No!! Please let us st…" Michi stopped herself. "I mean, visit the school with you! We'll be good!" She got on the ground and bowed in respect. "I don't want to…"

"Absolutely not! Now go back!" Kane commanded.

"Yes ma'am." Mika said as she got up from the grass, mocking a soldier's solute. She grabbed Michi by her collar and dragged her away. Once they were out of Kane's hearing range, she stopped dragging the monk. "Michi, it's not fair that she gets to attend school and we don't. We're gonna register ourselves." Mika said angrily.

"But Mika…"

"Come on monk, don't you want an adventure?" Mika smirked.

The girl soon caught on. "Oh, I get it. What're we waiting for?" They both darted for the office of Kane's high school.

Fourth hour started as it usually did. Kane headed for chorus, excited to start her favorite subject. They sat in rows separated in sections. The sopranos sat closest to the door on the right, the altos were seated farthest on the left and the tenors and basses were in the back. Kane had been talking to a girl, who sat behind her, when the teacher came out to begin class.

"Ohayo gozaimasu, class is now in session." He clapped his hands to get the attention of everyone. "Okay, today I have three new students to introduce." He nodded at Kane as a signal to come down by him. Kane stood and strolled down to join him, but didn't see the other two students.

"This is Sugimoto Kane-Sakura, a transfer from Yokohama." The class responded with "Ohayo Kane-Sakura."

The next two students walked in from the hallway. Kane just about screamed and keeled over when she saw their faces. "And this is Mika and Michi; they're transfers from…from…" He got his face really close to the paper and stuttered, "…the Sen…" Kane quickly cut him off.

"Oh, they're from Yokohama too. They just didn't know what `transfer' meant." Kane lied.

"Okay, Sugimoto-san. Now, do you three have anything to say to the class?"

"Nope, we're good. Um, can I speak to you two?" Kane said through clenched teeth as she shoved them into the hall. She closed the door behind her and said, "What the hell are you guys doing here?! I asked you to go home!"

"We wanted to see what you did here." Michi said, and then shivered when she saw the angry look on the hanyou's face. "It was all her idea! I just wanted to go back and she wouldn't listen to me!" She pushed the blame on Mika.

"Thanks Michi; anyway, we're registered here now and we have to attend or…"

"Are you insane?!" Kane interrupted. "What about your powers and your claws?!"

"You should talk; you have powers, claws, not to mention DOG EARS! Besides, my nails are retractable." Mika pointed out.

Kane desperately tried to think of a way to get them to go back to Kagome's, but to no avail. She sighed heavily, "All right, you can stay. Just don't embarrass me or pull any tricks with your powers." They gave each other a high five before entering the class room.

~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`

At the end of the day, Kane sat at Kagome's computer and typed away furiously. "A paper due tomorrow; of all the crummy days…!" She scoffed.

When Mika came prancing in to say that dinner was ready, Kane asked, "Could you bring it up for me? I need to get this paper done tonight and I have no time to stop." Mika listened obediently at first. Then when Kane became overly bossy, telling her to get everything at her very wish, Mika became irritated.

After getting Kane her fifth glass of water, Mika sat down in the living room to catch her breath. Michi and Setsuna were already settled, watching TV. "What is with this box?" Michi asked the stunned cat.

"Don't ask me; I'm not an expert with things like this." He stared at the images of a potato chip commercial, amazed at the moving pictures and loud noises the box made.

Michi noticed that the wolf had sat down and was catching her breath. "Something the matter?"

"Yeah; dog-breath up there thinks I'm her servant. She…"

"Mika! Can you get me something to eat for dessert?" Kane hollered.

`Oh, I'll get you something to eat all right.' Mika went to the kitchen, her eyebrow twitching agitatedly, and began to dig through the cupboards. "Let's see, Cajon, Tabasco sauce, jalapeno peppers…" She began naming spicy substances and mixing them together in a bowl.

Setsuna popped his head into the kitchen as Mika finished putting things away. "What are you doing in here?" He covered his nose from the spicy mixture Mika had made.

"A snack for Kane; she said to make it super zesty."

"That stuff is so hot my nose is burning! Are you sure she likes is that tangy?"

"Oh, I'm sure she does." She lifted the bowl to her nose and sniffed. She just about dropped it when it started to make her nose tingle. "Woo! That's some spicy salsa!" Her eyes watered over.

Kane heard the knock on the door and said, "Come in." Mika entered with her `snack'.

Without even looking at the contents of the bowl, she said, "Thanks Mika; it looks good." Kane took a large spoonful and lifted it to her mouth, ignoring the burning sensation it made on her nose. After she swallowed it, the flames blew out of Kane's mouth. "HOT!!!" Kane yelled as steam poured out of her dog-ears. Mika was rolling on the ground in laughter. She stopped the instant Kane glared at her. "Holy shit!" She laughed as she struggled to get up.

"You little wolf! You deserve way more than a subduing command!" Kane sprinted out the door, grabbing the bowl of `salsa'.

Kane chased her around the kitchen and set the bowl down on the table. "Come back here Mika!"

"Like I'd want to!" Mika stuck out her tongue.

Michi stepped into the room to see what the commotion was all about; Setsuna had followed knowing the real reason. "What is going…?" But Michi's question was interrupted by an alluring smell from the table. She approached it and breathed in the tantalizing scent. "Ooo, spicy Cajon, Tabasco sauce, and jalapeno peppers! This looks too good to pass up!" Michi took the spoon in her hand and began eating the mixture.

Kane had just grabbed onto Mika's ponytail and was about to pull her to the ground when she saw Michi eating the salsa. Mika must've noticed the monk's bizarre behavior too because she stopped suddenly. They gaped in horror and disgust as Michi guzzled down every bite of that nauseating, super piquant salsa. Kane covered her mouth with her free hand as her left eye twitched. Mika also had her mouth covered and watched as Michi placed the empty bowl in the sink. She wiped her mouth off and said, "Who made that wonderful salsa?"

Setsuna stood in the doorway, also astounded at the young monk's accomplishment of getting a full belly. "Michi, you're nuts." He leaned against one side as he said this. His gaze shifted to Kane and Mika. "At least you stopped their arguing."

Their bickering had indeed been replaced, with disgust. "M-Michi, do you realize what you ate?" Mika asked. Kane didn't even ask anything; she hauled ass and ran for the bathroom.

"Mika, I compliment your cooking!" Michi walked away calmly and patted her stomach. Mika fell to the floor with her left foot up in the air, twitching. Setsuna sighed and decided he'd better check on Kane and make sure she was all right.

~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`

At about the same time, InuYasha, Kagome, Miroku, and Sango were in the middle of a battle with Naraku. "Sango-chan, don't!" Kagome cried out as the demon slayer charged towards Naraku. But Kagome's plea had been too late; he easily shoved Sango off to the side. Her head hit a tree and knocked her out.

InuYasha attempted to kill Naraku with his Wind Scar, but his barrier was in the way and stopped the attack. "Damn it; how do I break the barrier?!" He looked back at Kagome, who held up her bow and arrow, and made sure she was still with him. Miroku, who'd used his Wind Tunnel and sucked in some poisonous insects, laid on the ground in a fever.

"InuYasha, try your Red Wind Scar!" Kagome yelled out.

`My inspiration as always.' "I know; I was just getting to that!" He prepared to do the attack as evil red eyes glared in the background.

"That's all I need dog-boy. Just break the barrier." His eyes narrowed. "Then competition to kill you and your wench of a sister will have diminished.

The sword turned red, and then he swung Tetsusaiga like he always did for his Wind Scar; down into the ground. It split the forest floor and broke Naraku's barrier easily.

Once it was gone, Ren-Tao took his chance; he jumped from the tree and stood in between InuYasha and Naraku, facing the proceeding.

"Ren-Tao!" InuYasha seethed.

He paid no heed to the hanyou; instead he let stuck his hand out and encased Naraku in a red barrier. It soon began to shrink with the evil hanyou in it and not long afterwards, Naraku was gone from sight; he had disappeared.

His job now finished, Ren-Tao took off in his usual disappearing act; the fading away into nothingness exploit. Kagome and InuYasha stared disbelievingly as he left, with no Naraku where he once stood. "He…he defeated Naraku?" Kagome stuttered.

InuYasha stepped forward. "No, he probably has him captured somewhere; tied up and ready to kill."

"What makes you say that?"

"It's just too easy to kill Naraku by putting a ball around him and shrinking it into nothing. Even so, something doesn't feel right about this." InuYasha glanced around his surroundings, trying to smell Naraku or Ren-Tao; it came up negative.

"Now what? If Naraku is defeated by Ren-Tao, does that mean that he's our new enemy?" Kagome asked as she tried to wake Sango up.

"I don't know," He knelt by her and took her little hand in his; their affection for each other heightened by fear. "I honestly can't say."

Sorry for those who have been patiently waiting for the next chapter to come out, but I've been really busy these last two weeks.

School starts tomorrow, be prepared for a long wait for the next chapter and the ones after. During my breaks, if I'm not busy and home, I'll update as much as possible. Hopefully, I'll still have a couple fans out there who are still interested.

BTW, I'd like to congratulate Sueric (I hope I named the author right, I don't have the spelling right in front of me) on completing Purity. That fanfic was the best I've ever read and I hope you all get a chance to read that one as well.

Please R&R!!! I know people are reading this, but they're not reviewing! Please leave a little comment about the story, whether or not you liked it or not. If it stunk, tell me and I'll try to fix the problems to make it better. I'd appreciate any kind of comment!

I would like to thank those who did review. I know those reviews have been up for a while, but I finally found time to thank you personally.

seiya374: Arigato my friend, and yes there will be romance but that is to come later.

milerna: I have been updating; I just hope you're still reading! Pleeeeeeeeeeease keep reading and reviewing! =)

SiriousB1: Thank you for noticing that one error about how calmly she took it, but I'm still trying to figure out how to make her seem more upset. Also, thanks for noticing my grammar and spelling. Since I'm already in the process of writing a novel, knowing how to check your grammar and spelling has become a habit of mine (it also helps that I have Microsoft Word).

CrazyDevil100: Thanks for the review and I will keep updating if you keep reading and reviewing.
