InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Hidden Secrets ❯ remembrances ( Chapter 3 )

Sango was pissed to say the least. That monk really knew how to push her buttons and he did it every time that they talked. She sighed and leaned against the wall of the corridor. She had to admit, today he didn't do anything wrong. She was just stressed over Sota, she thought of him as a little brother and was upset for the fact that he was ill and there was no cure in sight.
She slid down the wall and sat on the floor. This whole this didn't seem right. To her the world was spinning super fast and there was nothing she could do to stop it. Everything was adding up and she wasn't ready for what was going to happen.
Looking up at the ceiling she remembered InuYasha's behavior the night before. It was weird even for him. Sure he was super temperamental and didn't trust anyone, but that was beside the point. He never helped people if he didn't need to. So when he went with Miroku it all but shocked everyone.
So why help now? It was not like him. Something was going to happen and soon. Too soon for her liking.
Kagome laid out upon the roof of Keade's house. She had come to this place three weeks ago and she had learned many things. She began training under Keade on how to use her miko and demonic powers. She went through intense training everyday, and every night her memories would come back to her. She almost had all of her memories and every time that she got some, a piece of desire would form, the desire for revenge.
She knew that something happened to make her be this way. Everything that she had learned from Keade all lead up to the same answer - someone had killed her. She frowned, she didn't like that answer.
Another thing that she learned from Keade was patience. Something that she gained with her miko training. Her training of her demonic powers went quickly, and she was a master at them. But her miko powers were trying to destroy her demonic side, so she had to learn to control that. Since she was a quick learner, she had everything almost mastered in two weeks.
During this time she had also tracked down her family. She was saddened to find out that her grandfather had died and that her mother was in a hospital for severe depression. Her brother on the other hand, he was working for a gang. That upset Kagome because he was supposed to be in school studying, in her opinion anyways. She also found out that he went unconscious for a while, but now he was better. She was grateful for that.
She also went to watch him a couple times with her newly mastered powers. She had followed him and some other man into a park, the park where she came from, and watched them. She watched how he interacted and how he changed. She reminded herself to thank the man for watching after Sota.
When she was watching them, she sensed their power. Sota was much more powerful than the man training him. But that man was extremely powerful himself. She smiled at the thought because they didn't sense her, she had blocked her presence from them for now. She would return to her brother when she had gained all her memories and completed her revenge. Until then she would keep in the shadows, hide. That was her strong point, she didn't know yet who killed her, but she sure in hell had some great advantages over them.
She snickered at the thought. She looked at her skin to see if she had stayed out long enough. She noticed the green pigment was gone, she was in the clear. The good part about being an earth demon, or half demon was that you had all these powers: talking to the plants, growing plants out of you body, going through rocks, and other natural solid material like water, being able to manipulate the plants, rocks and dirt, being able to produce the same things that plants do and being able to grow and seed in any place at anytime, plus the normal enhanced speed, agility, strength, life expectancy and health. The downside was, that like a plant she had to get enough sunlight, or she'd turn green and get ill and really hungry - but she could go about two days without needing to sunbath.
Kagome knew that she was powerful as a demon, and as well as a miko. Together she was extremely powerful. She smiled at the thought and pitied the fool who decided to destroy her life. Kagome stood up and jumped off the roof, having the vines from her body break her fall and having her land on her feet.
Oh, she really pitied the fool who decided it was a good idea to kill her. I mean, who wouldn't want to kill the person who killed them. That was her state of thought. And no one could stop her. She walked into the house and went to the room she had been staying at.
She knew once this was over she would be able to live peacefully with her mother and brother, and no one was going to stop her.
The past three weeks had been hectic for Miroku. Sota had gotten better, which everyone was grateful for. Miroku had figured out what was bothering Sango and got her to stop being so damn moody. He hoped that InuYasha would stop but that was a far-fetched dream. And other than his normal business, doing whatever InuYasha and Shessho-maru said to, everything was going well.
When Sota woke up, Miroku took the boy to start doing research on his sister's supposed death. They couldn't find a thing, but sometimes they would have a strange sensation that someone was watching them. Though they could never sense it or detect it by any other means. Miroku had his suspicions, he didn't voice them, for the sake of Sota and the one watching.
Miroku leaned back in his chair in his room. After all the research, interviews and footwork, they had nothing. Nothing on what happened to Sota's sister. This was becoming an obsession now, he knew that something dirty went down and he wanted to be one step ahead of it. Miroku was following his gut and he knew that if the Sota's sister was back, she would be back with a hunger for revenge. That was the thing that was gnawing at him for the past three weeks.
He began to look over the papers again that were spread out on his desk. He still had the diary, though Sota knew this time. He was so absorbed into the papers that he didn't hear the knock on the door, or it opening.
Sango knock on Miroku's door. She knew he was up to something, that or, something was really bothering him that he had to figure out. There was no answer when she knocked. She went in anyways because she could hear him inside.
She furrowed her brow when she saw that he was hunched over his desk reading through a lot of papers. Sango walked up and looked over his shoulder, reading what the papers were. She got depressed when she saw the picture of a girl on his desk mixed in with all of his papers. Anger took over the depression and she hit him.
“OW!! WHAT THE FUCK!!!!” He shouted as he jumped out of his chair. Sango scowled.
“Pervert,” She snapped. “She's not even legal.” She glared at him. He looked confused. At first he was angry that she had come in his room, then he was angry that she was accusing him of being a pervert.
“What the hell are you doing in here?” He snapped and the accusations began. “You didn't knock. What the hell is this?”
“I did knock, you didn't hear me.” She sassed. Miroku glared.
“You still should have said something.” He shot back. Her eyes almost seemed to have a glaze to them.
“I wanted to know what was wrong, but I guess nothing's wrong. I'll let you get back to stalking your little hussy.” She snapped and began to storm out. Before she could go anywhere Miroku grabbed her arm and forced her against the wall with a deadly gleam in his eyes.
“You should really know the facts before you jump to conclusions.” He snarled. He let her go and slammed the door shut so she couldn't get out. “Now come here.” He said as he dragged her to his desk. He pushed her down into the chair and shoved the papers in her face, forcing her to look at them.
“That is Kagome Higurashi.” He began, “She went missing at age fifteen, seven years ago. There has been no trace of her or where she was taken, until three weeks ago.”
Sango looked at the papers and the photographs that were in the pages. She saw the smiling teenager hugging a little boy. She looked at the name again and her eyes widened.
“Higurashi? As in Sota's sister?” She asked cautiously. Miroku nodded. The anger was slowly seeping out of him as Sango looked over the papers. She looked up at him again. “What do you mean `no trace, until three weeks ago'?” Miroku looked up and grimaced.
“That's the thing.” Miroku sighed. “My theory is that when Sota passed out was when she was resurrected. Or at least awakened.” Miroku sat fell back onto his bed. “I want to know what happened to her, because she didn't just walk away from her family. And her diary entries.” He sat up and looked at Sango. “She wrote about a dream, or messed up premonition, and she remembers that `she has to die to live'. And when we were at Keade's house she said that she found the girl, well the girl found her, but Kagome's alive.”
Sango looked confused through the whole speech that Miroku had given her. No one could come back from the dead.
“Say what?” She asked.
“You know about earth demons, right?” Miroku asked. Sango nodded.
“But they're nearly non-existent because they have to die…” Sango trailed off and looked at Miroku in shock. “That means that Kagome is an earth demon.”
“Exactly, along with Sota and their father.” Miroku concurred.
“But how is their father not alive then?” Sango asked. Miroku grabbed the papers from Sango's hand.
“Easy, you see, earth demons have to die to live. More specifically be killed, but before then they are completely and fully human-like. So when Kagome and Sota's father got cancer, he wasn't killed, but died because of a failure in his own body, which the demon couldn't save itself from, causing him not to be able to resurrect.” Sango nodded slightly.
“But I don't get it still, if they are human before they get killed how is it that the demon inside comes out?” She questioned.
“The demon inside is dormant.” Miroku responded.
“Even for the full demons?” She continued.
“Yes, even for them”
“But I still don't get it, how is this possible?” She asked again.
“It was a part of their evolution. From what I've found out is that the earth demons were so powerful that they would be hunted down and killed off one by one. This was about 10,000 years ago mind you. So their evolution and a spell had them hide their powers, those powers would be released if the offspring could not complete their full life, basically, if someone found out and somehow they were killed. So eventually you have the ones that forget what they are, because generations before don't know either. So there you have it, Kagome and Sota, the half demons. Their father a full one, without ever knowing it.”
Sango sat and stared at Miroku in awe. This is what he was obsessing about for the past three weeks. All the research and time put into finding out what happened to Sota's sister.
“You said she was awakened.” She whispered. Miroku nodded.
“And more than likely once she remembers, she'll want revenge. I don't know of anyone that wouldn't after being killed.” He murmured. “The problem is, I think that her awakening is going to cause big problems.”
Sango scowled. “No shit Sherlock, how long did it take you to figure that one out.” Miroku scowled right back at her.
“Look at her picture.” He said, Sango looked. “Look like anyone we know?” Sango looked a little harder then gasped.
“Kikyo.” She spoke on her breath.
“Yes, Kikyo.” Miroku replied. “And you know want to know what her dream what about.” Sango dumbly nodded. Miroku walked to the desk and handed her the dairy, opened to the page. He waited five minutes before she looked up. Sango couldn't speak, there were just no words she could say.
“Flip the page.” He commanded. She followed. A drawing fell out of the dairy and caused Sango to gasp again. It was Kikyo.
“Kikyo did this.” She whispered.
“I don't think she killed her, but I think that she helped. And whoever her mate is was the one who killed her.” Miroku finished for her.
“But Kikyo doesn't have a mate.” Sango muttered. “Unless.”
“That's right, `unless'. The one word I don't like.” Miroku walked across the room and looked out the window. “Kagome will come after Kikyo first, and that's trouble for us, but it will also expose her for what she is.” He said as he stared blankly out the window.
Sango walked up behind him and wrapped her arms around his waist. He was shocked but didn't pull away.
“We're headed for a shit load of trouble. Be on your guard, and if you see her, don't fight her, we don't know how powerful she is.” He warned.
“Cake.” She affirmed.
“Oh yeah, don't tell Sota either, we don't need him running after her. I think that she needs her secrecy right now. It may be her greatest weapon for her revenge. Maybe she can even save us all.” He muttered the last part to himself, as he looked at his right hand.
“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!”
Keade jumped up and out of bed as the piercing scream broken the nighttime silence. She rushed to get her robe on and ran up to the room where the scream came from. Bursting the door open, she saw her young guest thrashing around in her bed. Keade moved to the bed slowly and sat down next to her.
“Kagome.” Keade said as she shook the young woman. “Kagome, child, wake up.” Kagome shot straight up in her bed, sweat pouring down her face and panting heavily. She looked around frantically, until she saw Keade.
“Kagome child, what's wrong?” Keade questioned soothingly. Kagome stared at her for a while, studying her.
“I know what happened.” Kagome panted.
“What do you know happened?” Keade continued to question. Kagome frown.
“I know how I died.” She answered.
“Tell me child how did you die?” Keade asked cautiously.
“It was the one who looks like me. She was posed as a child by some illusion.” Kagome began, her eyes gained a distant look as she continued. “She was on the swing at the park near my home, she was crying. I thought she was anyways.” Anger was seeping into her voice. “But she wasn't, she was there to draw me out, to get me. I remember her words. `I'm fine. But you won't be.' That's what she said. Then she said her mate wanted me.”
“What do you mean `her mate'?” Keade interrupted. Kagome looked over to her and frowned but answered the question.
“The one that she was to be with for life. Her husband.” She snarled, then looked back and her eye glazed over again. “So I ran. I ran away from her, into the woods. But that's where he was, the one who killed me. I thought I was going to be raped, but I knew I was going to be killed. But I wasn't raped, but he said I was going to mess with his future. Then I blacked out. That's it.” Kagome finished. When she was done she felt the anger sweeping through her. “They are going to die, by my hand.”
Kagome looked at Keade and saw that the woman was silent. Studying her for a few moments she noticed that the lady was distressed. Kagome stood got off the bed and looked at her in the eyes.
“You know something.” Kagome said. “Tell me what it is.”
Keade had a dishearten expression upon her face as she sighed.
“He will be upset by this new very much so.” Keade murmured to herself. Kagome snarled at the old woman when she didn't get her answer.
“Tell me now.” She demanded again. Keade looked at the girl and gave her a sad smile.
“The one you seek is with InuYasha. But they are not mates. I bet he doesn't even know that she has a mate.” She said in sorrow. “You will search for your vengeance now, will you not child?” Kagome stood up.
“Yes I will. No one can avenge my death but myself. It is my battle.” She spewed with anger. “I will go now, you will not be involved with this.”
“As you wish child.” Keade said as she watched Kagome. Kagome began to get dressed and packed a bag of clothing that was given to her. She placed a few of the weapons that she had received in her bag. She looked at Keade on last time.
“Tell no one please.” Kagome pleaded to Keade. Keade nodded. Kagome picked up her bag and began to walk out.
“Wait child!” Keade shouted. Keade walked up to Kagome as she turned around. “There is one other that might know of your existence, his name is Miroku and he may be able to help you find the information that you seek. He is a monk and you can tell him by the pray beads on his right hand.” Kagome nodded. Keade continued, “Be careful child, you are powerful, but not fully trained.” Kagome nodded again.
“Thank you for your hospitality Lady Keade. I will remember you.” Kagome said as she walked out of the house. Keade watched her walk away and off into the darkness of the morning.
Keade was left with her own thoughts. Thoughts of her elder sister, the one who had killed that young girl, the one who had a mate, the one who turned evil somehow yet remain completely pure. Keade felt like she had betrayed Kagome, but yet she couldn't be the one to turn over her sister. Walking back to her bed, she knew that Kagome would figure everything out and destroy the underground world of demons as they knew it.
It was the end of the old reign and the beginning of a new one, one where Kagome would have the power if she so desired. As Keade laid down to go back to sleep, she prayed for the poor fools that got in Kagome's way.
