Kouga looked at the tiny little white dog asleep sound in the fluffy white cotton towels with the end of a hot water bottle sticking out beside it. His sensitive ears could pick up the sound of ticking, probably from a watch or small clock, that was used to make the lonely infant feel like it was never alone. The tiny worm of a dog squirmed around cuddling closer to the hot water bottle and letting out a squeaky grunt.
An animal lover, Kouga smiled his wolfish smile, “Don't worry Kagome I won't tell your father.”
“Thank you so much Kouga you don't know how much it means to me,” Kagome said letting out a long sigh.
“Of course there is the matter of how you're going to repay me for this,” the wolf youkai's smile grew, “Would it be worth a date? Just one lunch date, no strings attached, just between friends. (For now)”
Son of a, Kagome thought stunned for a moment but the look in Kouga's eyes told her that he was all to serious so swallowing the lump in her throat she nodded, “Ok fine but don't say a word to anyone, just go I need to change before I come out.”
“Ok but one question,” the wolf said picking up a curtain article of clothing off Kagome's floor, “What exactly was this for?”
She blushed seeing the boy holding up the skimpy little maid's uniform, Kagome snatched the fabric back and shoved in it a drawer as quickly as she could, “It was just a Halloween costume my friends bought me!”

Kagome changed out of her work clothes and joined the company in the living room finding as she walked in all eyes were staring right at her, especially Kouga. She wasn't wearing anything special, just an old faded pair of torn up jean shorts and a beige hooded sweater. Some of her hair was pulled up into a small ponytail at the back of her head while the rest hung around her shoulders and her glasses were sitting up high on her thin nose.
This was the first time Kagome would meet Mr. Wolfe, and she would only ever know him as Mr. Wolfe since he was a very stern commanding man who didn't think people needed to know much more than that. He looked younger than Kagome's father, though everyone knew that demons aged slower than humans, he only appeared to be in his late twenties when he was much closer to middle age. The man sat very strait and upright in his chair and his body was well build with thin but very noticeable muscles. Mr. Wolfe's face looked like an older version of Kouga in every aspect, from his eyes, and even the way he had his long brown hair up in a high ponytail. He wore regular well fitting kakis with a plain dark shirt and of course a beer Kagome's father had offered her in his hand. She had only heard the conversations from the hall at that point but she knew he was a proud old fashioned that guy that unfortunately liked his drink almost as much as Kagome's father.
“So this must be little Kagome, you're father has told me a lot about you and I see he was quite right,” the man gave a small smile on his stone cold face, “Such an innocent acting little girl but pretty too, and I am betting bright too. The kind of young girl any real man would be proud to have at home with children.”
Blushing Kagome sat on one of the chairs that had been set out for her and sat quietly with her hands folded in her lap and her eyes fixed on a spot on the carpet. She didn't like to well where the conversations were going, were their parents actually trying to set their children up together? Kagome liked the guy and thought he was nice enough but she just didn't like him in that way, though that could be because she had never had someone actually want to be her boyfriend and didn't know how to act or think about it.
“Back to what I was talking about then,” Mr. Wolfe announced to Kagome's dad, “You have a nice sized bar with steady costumers and is in a prime location. I am very interested in investing in it to make it bigger and better than before; it would make us both tones of cash! We'll make up the whole place into a nice club and of course it will be the best place in town with strippers a few days a week, the demand for that type of entertainment is climbing every year, and is guaranteed to make a hefty profit.”
That is so degrading I can't believe a girl would want to do that type of thing, Kagome could help but frown slightly hearing Mr. Wolfe's plans for her father's bar.
“Do you not like something about the plans Miss Higurashi,” Mr. Wolfe asked his eyebrow perking up slightly.
As fast as she could Kagome thought of an excuse, “Oh no it's not that I was just thinking about this difficult math problem I had for homework and I guess I just sort of went into space for a minute there, I'm sorry about that Mr. Wolfe. That was really rude of me I should pay more attention.”
Mr. Wolfe gave a wolfish smirk identical to Kouga's, “I didn't expect a woman to know anything about business, but I know my Kouga is listening. He will need to know this one day when he is off starting businesses of his own, and he will be successful at it just like I am.”
Kagome didn't have to be looking anywhere off the carpet to be able to feel her father's death glare on her. If her father's mood didn't turn down a few notches by the time Mr. Wolfe left she would feel the mistake in the form of a belt to somewhere other than her aching back. Just thinking about it made poor Kags fidget in her seat and scratch slightly at the muscles on her back that had become stiffer since that morning from the pain. She had been through worse, a lot worse, and she never wanted it to happen again, often she found herself not able to wait until she graduated, but would her father allow her to leave even if she did finish high school? Sometimes Kagome could see the look in his eye and it made her afraid, pain goes further than a whip, he knew everything that would scare her, make her obey every word he said, he knew how to cause real pain. Swallowing hard trying to calm herself she sat still in her chair and pretended to listen with more interest, and made sure to courteously ask if Mr. Wolfe wanted another beer when he finished a bottle.
Three hours past agonizingly slow, and Kagome began to feel anxious about the puppy that would wake up any minute and start crying to be fed. She had two wolf youkai in her house and Mr. Wolfe would be sure to ask about the noises, and there would be no chance for Kagome to go to bed unscathed that night.
“Excuse me I need to go to the washroom,” Kagome announced softly and walked out of the room with all eyes following her. This was why Kagome hated being the center of attention, and why she barely spoke, all eyes were on her and she could almost here the wild accusations of crimes in her head as though she were reading the minds of others. When the company watched her she felt like they would toss her aside, find the puppy, and kill it.
Myou is getting very hungry, her mind told her and forced her to stay calm enough to walk out of the room without another word.
00000000000000000
She arrived in her room and went to work quickly. Kagome had turned on the light in the washroom and made sure to shut the door so it looked like she was in it then mixed the puppy's milk formula with luke warm water from a water bottle in her backpack.
The little white worm squeaked slightly and Kagome quickly made shushing sounds, “Myou you have to be quiet.”
It was amazing, it was like Myou knew every word Kagome was saying, the infant stopped making noise even if it continued to squirm looking for its food source. Myou's reward was the end of the special nursing bottle Kagome had been feeding him with and he slurped it up quickly slopping most of it over his face. Kagome whipped him clean and placed the bottle in one of her drawers so it wouldn't be found and put the bundle containing the content puppy under her bed.
Everything went quickly and smoothly, thank god, and Kagome was back in the living room in no time, but not before she gave the toilet a fake flush for good measure. The rest of the night she continued to listen to the fathers' plans in complete boredom as Kouga's eyes watched her like a hawk. She just sat there politely pretending to be interested and nodded when needed. The Wolfe's ended up leaving a couple hours later and Kagome was free to feed Myou again before she started getting ready for bed.
She placed the bundle neatly back under her bed, stashing the formula again, and changed into a pair of pajamas. It seemed she had made it through the night well at that point since her father had not talked to her since their guests had left but that was what was starting to make Kagome nervous. She figured her father would say something, or at least mutter drunkly after all the beer he had, and go fall asleep in his own bed not waking up until noon on Sunday with a heavy hangover. It was what her father did as a routine after he had been drinking on the weekend or they had guests over giving him an excuse to drink a little less than he did during the week.
“Stupid bitch,” her father's slurred voice hissed from the dark hallway, he seemed slightly more alert than normal, “I told you not to embarrass me when we had guests over, and you didn't even give that Kouga kid the time of day!”
Trembling slightly Kagome pleaded with her eyes toward her father to just let this one little incident slide, but as she often found, hopes were for fools.
Her father walked into the room with a blank slate for an expression looming like the grim reaper over the terrified young girl. He seemed to just stand there enjoying how Kagome's heart rate was increasing more and more with each second he didn't do a thing except stare down on her. Then without warning his hand moved in one fluid motion hitting Kagome in the side of the head causing her to fall to the side.
Smack! Kagome's head bounced right off the corner of her dresser and her limp body simply tumbled to the floor not moving. There would be a small blood stain on the carpet and the dresser that never would come off in the months she would continue to live at the house like this, but her father never really cared. Kagome never dared to tell anyone or let anyone into the house unless he himself invited them. All the evidence was hidden in a carpet or over a well worn down sweater and thick layers of makeup.
Kagome's father left not caring that his daughter could have been dead right then, he would only notice if she started to smell by Monday but our little Kags was very much alive and would be in pain for a long time with her wounds.
The sun set over the body laying sprawled out on the carpet, her face hidden in a mess of raven hair.

I'm going to kill them, InuYasha seethed in his mind as a young girl he had been forced to meet at a bar clung to his arm. Like always his friends hooked him up with a girl then gave him the slip as soon as he was no longer able to escape the death grip. Now, again, he was stranded miles from his home with no ride (his friends stole his car as the ride home since it was the car they had taken) and an annoying girl giving him a headache from all her high pitch laughing.
The girl didn't know he was a hanyou yet, he had his ears hidden under the hair in his low ponytail, and so she just kept going on and asking who gave him the awesome dye job and colour contacts. InuYasha didn't know exactly what she was saying because his head was somewhere far far away from where his body sat in agony.
He had upset Kagome but he couldn't just go to her house and apologies for putting her on the spot like that, its not exactly in the book for a teacher to randomly go up to a students house to apologies for dancing with the student. InuYasha still couldn't place it but Kagome was an odd girl aside from the fact that she was quiet and kept everything to herself, but he kept thinking about her more than he should.
“InuYasha,” the girl whined, “Are you listening to me?”
“No,” grumbled InuYasha rubbing his forehead slightly.
The girl pouted, “But I thought we were really connecting you know? I really like you InuYasha.”
“Why do you like me?”
“Because you're hansom, you're strong, and you're smart too.”
“How would you know I'm smart I haven't said a word all night its you that's been doing all the talking.”
The girl was completely stunned at InuYasha looked at her a smirk starting to etch at the corners of his lips as he took another drink, “Hey girl do you like dogs? Because if you do I have got a hell of a surprise for ya.”
By this point the girl didn't know what to think about InuYasha and the way he was speaking to her. He had obviously had a bit to drink, she made sure of that, but was he threatening her or was he just being weird and perverted. She obviously couldn't see the ears at that point so her face remained a mix of shocked expressions that were almost unreadable.
Sitting his cup down on the counter InuYasha pulled out his hair elastic in one smooth motion letting his silver locks flow over his shoulders and most of his face. Most of all his ears were allowed to sit up like they were intended to once again and twitched slightly since they had nearly fallen asleep after being pressed down for so long, “This is about as dog as people cat get.”
“Oh my god,” she mumbled wide eyed looking at the ears, even poking them to see if they were real, then she backed off slightly, “You're a demon.”
“Well that is only half true,” InuYasha shrugged taking another sip of his drink, “But whatever floats your boat I guess.”
Let's just say that was the last InuYasha talked to that girl or any other girl in the bar because in general they all avoided him because of the ears. He just continued sitting there ordering drink after drink knowing eventually he would either be kicked out or cut off anyway so he might as well make the best of it. Hopefully his friends would come back to make sure he had gone off with that girl and he would beat the shit out of all of them for doing this to him every weekend.
Mumbling his mind was beginning to go fuzzy with alcohol and his mind thought of the memory of Kagome naked in the shower, she had the perfect body, high school girls sure have something these days, those breasts, those curves…and I made her pissed at me last night and I don't know what I did.
For the rest of the night he could only come up with creative ways to apologies to his favourite student by far. In his mind swam alcohol induced fantasies of stroking her hair, nuzzling his nose into the warm flesh of her neck, nibbling on her ear, whispering to her when they were alone together and seeing her smile when he held her close. Then of course past the cute thoughts there were much more dirty thoughts that need no explaining to those of you with half a brain. InuYasha, even drunk, knew there was some sort of obsession in him over a student that he would never be allowed to be with, but over and over his mind would think back to those eyes (and breasts).

A few hours after Kagome had been knocked out the small white puppy began squirming in its bed again and let out tiny squeaks that were barely loud enough to hear. It seemed he was already smart enough to know about the sound limit he had but he was barely able to smell his mother and it began to worry the small pup. His small nose sniffed the air finding the scent of blood in the air, and in concern he nuzzled the closest thing that smelled of his adoptive mother, that thing happened to be Kagome's hand.
The young girl stirred slightly with her eyebrows furrowing slightly, a slight groan escaped her lips as she attempted to sit up but she found it too hard to attempt. So she laid there for a long time trying to fight the throbbing on the inside.
“I'm sorry Myou I'll get you your food in just a second,” mumbled Kagome trying once again to get up then crawled over to the drawer where she had stashed Myou's bottles.
Her hands were trembling like tiny earthquakes but she did her best to hold the small bundle of cloth steady as she nursed the puppy. Kagome leaned her back against the edge of her bed, she felt so tired after that knock on the head, and her stomach wasn't feeling the greatest either.
“Don't worry Myou I'll take care of you no matter what,” she whispered nursing the pup.
I know you will, a small voice whispered back making Kagome jump. She had never heard the voice before but somehow it seemed familiar to her. The words were a series of small growls that sounded oddly throaty like it was being said without ever touching the lips, but of course the one that was speaking didn't have human lips for mouth and form precise words like humans, you're the one that gave me my life back so I know I can trust you. I only hope that someday I can do as much for you as you have done for me, but that would take a lot.
“There are a lot of things in this world that I don't understand of course,” sighed Kagome setting down the empty bottle and sat there on the floor with her baby for quite a long time, “this is one of them but I seriously think I'm going insane if I actually think I am hearing you talking to me Myou.”
You're not insane Kagome, there is something inside you that gave you the power with your will to save me and you don't even seem to realize it. I trust its not the first time you had something weird happen to you, but whatever the case what has been done to me had obviously made me different than other dogs, unless you haven't noticed, Kagome couldn't believe it, she still thought that back knock to the head had something to do with the gruff voice, after all Myou was only about a day old by this point and he was already speaking better English than most kids her own age (and older). She just looked down at the pale fuzzy face of the puppy, he looked normal, he of course was not old enough to open his eyes yet but he still looked like a normal puppy. But there was still something about Myou that set him apart from his own kind, she had never been able to place it but she could feel things from people, kind of like what you would call auras. Everything and everyone had their own unique aura, but of course each species had similar auras in general, Myou's aura was so different it seemed almost human.
Did I do this to Myou, she asked herself looking at the little white worm, in saving him did I change him into something different from what he was born to be? How did this happen to me? How do I do these things, he's right I have done things like this before but I was always too young to think anything of it.
It was late, Kagome was tired, and she fell asleep there with the pup still in her arms and her head still pounding like a sheep skin drum. The girl fell asleep still wondering what Myou said was inside her that made her able to do things when she had strong emotions or in past events was in danger.
