“Hey Kags,” Kouga waved to Kagome over the crowd to get her attention after he had finally found her in the crowd heading to last period and with a slight sigh she walked with him to English.
Trying to be as subtle as possible Kouga seemed to walk closer to Kagome than usual, considering that he wasn't much for giving her personal space in the first place, his arm was right against hers.
The two of them walked into class together, Mr. Taisho was sitting at his desk waiting for his students to file in, and Kouga was still holding Kagome's hand.
What on earth, InuYasha's eyes instantly narrowed seeing the pair of them walk in together hand in hand; he had to keep staring for a few long agonizing seconds before he realized he wasn't just seeing things. Having known Kagome for quite some time he thought Kagome would seriously be the last one to walk into class hand in hand with a guy, and one particular detail about the guy seemed to really irk the inu-hanyou, he's a wolf demon!
The young grinning wolf boy glanced at the school schedule he had handy so he could read InuYasha's name off of it, “Hey Mr. Taisho my name is Kouga Wolfe I'm a new student here I should be on the new class list.”
“Yes I heard,” responded InuYasha dryly, “Take whatever seat you see free, this is high school so I think you should be mature enough to know to pay attention with whoever you sit beside, we are just beginning a new unit today so you shouldn't have to much trouble keeping up Mr. Wolfe.”
There was a moment of tension between Kouga and InuYasha, it wasn't really that uncommon, and there had always been a sort of grudge between dog and wolf demons. It went back in time so far no one knew exactly how it started but what InuYasha knew was that wolf demons were cocky and arrogant. In Kouga's eyes InuYasha was just an inferior half breed, a mutt, someone the wolf knew he would detest having teach him and actually be forced to show respect to while he was on school grounds.
The school bell rung finally breaking the moment of silent loathing, Kouga took his seat, InuYasha picked up his lesson plan so he could begin to teach his class like his job demanded him to. But no matter how much InuYasha tried to concentrate he would always glance to the back of the room and see that damned wolf demon by who insisted on sitting beside Kagome. He would ask her questions about the work, or if she needed help, he would whisper to her and chuckle quietly in the middle of class. Of course InuYasha could hear everything in the classroom quite clearly with his dog like hearing, and after a while he had simply learned to tune the minor chatter out, but Kouga's voice seemed to be as noticeable as nails across a black board to him.
“Mr. Wolfe,” InuYasha looked up from his book. His voice seemed unnaturally cold as he addressed the young wolf demon, so much so a few students in the front row shifted back in their seats slightly, but he couldn't help it that annoying wolf was just pushing every one of his buttons without really doing much at all, “I'm teaching a lesson so if you would kindly stop chatting with Miss Higurashi maybe we could all get out work done.”
“Yes Mr. Taisho,” responded Kouga dully in a you-know-I'm-not-going-to-listen-to-you-so-why-bother voice. After InuYasha went back to his lecturing Kouga just rolled his eyes, “Seriously the standards for school teachers have seriously gone down if they let a damn mutt teach here. I swear he has a real grudge against me for so reason what-so-ever.”
“No I have a grudge against people who refuse to let their classmates concentrate,” InuYasha's icy voice called from the front of the class, “If you're going to try and be rude at least take into consideration the fact that I can hear you.”
“And he has sonar hearing like a bat,” hissed Kouga in the quietest voice possible.
Kagome just kept shrinking down into her seat every time she felt the eyes of her classmates on her and Kouga whispering about them being an item, and her face turned completely crimson from the instant her teacher had looked at her with those questioning golden eyes the moment she walked in the room, the bell never rings when you want it to, just ring already and get me out of here!
Salvation finally came for Kagome when the school bell finally did ring signaling the end of the day and she heaved a long sigh of relief. She could go home and hopefully just hide her embarrassment since she was certainly not used to the attention the wolf boy attracted.
“Miss Higurashi,” the silver haired hanyou teacher called before Kagome had the chance to even attempt making it to the door, “Could I see you for a moment please?”
“Yes Mr. Taisho,” she responded meekly.
Kouga also stayed in the classroom stubbornly obviously with his mind set on walking her home immediately afterward.
InuYasha's eyebrow twitched, “Mr. Wolfe there is no need for you to be here, I wanted to talk with Miss Higurashi privately.”
An extremely vexed Kouga trudged rather slowly out of the classroom muttering curses under his breath that, naturally, InuYasha could hear all to clearly but completely ignored him. The sound of the door clicking shut was the only one InuYasha wanted to reach his fuzzy white dog ears and when it finally did the abnormally cold exterior he had on that entire class lessened somewhat.
The petite raven haired teen swallowed, “What did you want to talk to me about Mr. Taisho.”
“The bell rang, when it's officially after school hours that Mr. Taisho thing takes a hike,” InuYasha reminded before turning to his desk and pulling out a flyer, “Have you thought at all about your plans after high school lets out? Have you thought at all about college, university, or career paths?”
“N-no not really.”
“Well you are in the twelfth grade now Miss Higurashi and sooner or later you have to think about these things. Now, I have done some looking around, there are a number of schools that are offering scholarships that would definitely be within reach with your grades,” he began flipping through a bunch of programs he had received from the office, “Most of your classmates have already started applying to a lot of these places, everyone except you, I was just a bit curious about that…”
There really was no way to answer her teacher's questions without completely giving away everything that she had ever been through. No. People thought she was weak enough without her saying exactly why. There was no way her father would ever allow her to leave to go to school and actually start a new life on her own, maybe even become happy again, despite the fact that he was an alcoholic he always seemed to know what Kagome was doing. When she ran away once as a child shortly after the death of her mother and brother, she slept in the tunnel of the park for a few hours until the police came to pick her up, when you're a kid your word doesn't hold a candle to the voice of an adult. It taught her the lesson that no matter what she did she was trapped.
InuYasha hadn't really expected an answer; he has just hoped for one, he just didn't understand why Kagome was so isolated. So he just handed the flyers to her, “Here just in case you wanted to at least take a look at them. You know it's a real waste to not do anything with that brilliant mind of yours.”
“Thank you … InuYasha,” she still felt uncomfortable calling her teacher by his first name.
Out of the corner of his eye InuYasha caught sight of Kouga through the small door window and gave another agitated sigh, he was really starting to hate that damn wolf, “I think your boyfriend is eager to get going.”
More heat rushed to her cheeks, “N-no he's not my boyfriend, our fathers are business partners, and I was only helping him out the first day.”
Like hell that little bastard would just stop at letting her help him around, he's not a little kid he would have been fine without holding my Kagome's hand every inch of the way. Damn I really hate that kid, InuYasha's normally wide and almost child like eyes narrowed venomously at the wolf boy whose nose was practically pressed against the glass of the door window. Instinctively a low rumble sounded in his chest and he had to grit his teeth to keep the growl as quiet as possible, shit why am I acting so fucking possessive she is just one of my students its none of my business if she has a relationship or not … but I still hate that kid.
Kagome's chocolate coloured eyes blinked for a moment, Is InuYasha growling…?
“Hey Kags you coming or what,” Kouga asked opening the door.
“Yes I am just give me a minute to go get my things,” Kagome dashed out of the room before anything else could be said leaving InuYasha and Kouga alone together in the same room. Big mistake.
“Mr. Onigumo is sure scraping the bottom of the barrel,” the wolf smirked.
“How petty,” InuYasha smirked, “You actually think your little comments have any affect on me.”
“How pathetic it looks like sweet Mr. Taisho has green eyes,” Kouga's smirk grew to a satisfied grin.
InuYasha's ears twitched, “That is out of line Mr. Wolfe, but for your sake I will pretend I didn't hear that. If you are going to continue disrespecting me don't expect an English credit this semester because you won't be welcome in my classroom.”
Lame, yes, but what the hell could InuYasha do? He was a teacher for god's sake! InuYasha couldn't just run off at the mouth no matter how much he would have liked to, in fact in his mind he had an ever growing colourful list of great names for him he would have been more than happy to use, his little stretch with self restraint was going to give him an ulcer.

“Kouga you really didn't have to walk me home,” Kagome murmured shyly.
“No its really ok I wanted to,” he insisted, also carrying Kagome's backpack for her, and just generally making her feel increasingly more uncomfortable with his overwhelmingly smothering personality, “Besides our dads are off doing god knows what with that bar they are setting up and since we'd be alone otherwise why not enjoy each other's company? You spend a lot of time alone Kagome I don't know how you stand it, don't you ever feel lonely, haven't you ever just wanted to hang out with someone for no real reason? You know enjoy the company of others, spread the joy, that kind of thing?”
“Sometimes I enjoy silence,” she really would have enjoyed some at that moment.
Comparing Kouga Wolfe and InuYasha Taisho, Kagome could have had a list a mile long, it really wasn't that hard. Kouga was loud, obnoxious, arrogant, and … well you get the idea. Then there was InuYasha who was much gentler, he was kind, he was sweet, and apparently very protective. Maybe it was a dog demon thing, Kagome didn't know that much about demons, but she could of sworn her teacher had been growling at Kouga and he really didn't seem to like him being around her all that much either, guys are confusing.
Trying to act as much like a gentleman as possible (which really wasn't working all that well for him) Kouga ushered Kagome up her walkway and to the door, he even unlocked the door and opened it for her, but his efforts did not go as planned.
“Oomph!” All Kagome saw before she was hit hard in the chest was a blur of white fur, she staggered backwards, and probably would have fallen if it had not been for Kouga catching her (it was the only chivalrous thing he managed to do). After a few moments when Kagome was able to regain her senses she began to fight back against the furry of kisses that threatened to suffocate her. In her arm was a tiny energetic white puppy maybe not even half the height of her lower leg with happy golden eyes and a tail waving back and forth fifty miles an hour.
“Where on earth did that come from,” asked Kouga.
“I-I think he is Myou, but it's impossible,” Kagome whispered examining the small puppy who had an obliviously happy dog grin on his face, “he's only a few days old!”
Kouga's nose twitched, “Well definitely older now Kags. Demons aging are different from humans, we mature faster, but we live a lot longer.”
“Did you say demon…?”

I am not jealous, I am not jealous, I am not jealous so just stop thinking about it already and at least try and get some damn work done already, InuYasha told himself as he vigorously marked papers, a few of his students would be receiving check mark shaped holes in their papers, others would see the ink spots where InuYasha had broken at least three separate pens in anger. InuYasha needed to clear his mind and concentrate so he could finish his work and he had to finish it before he ran out of pens, damn it all to hell I hate that kid and his damn attitude.
“You should seriously consider a hobby,” Sango said from the door of his classroom making him jump. The brunette chuckled leaning casually against the door frame and shook her head, “Miroku just called he said that if you wanted you and the guys could hang out tonight for a bit.”
Snap. There went another red pen dying half a student's test with ink and subtracting from the dwindling number of writing utensils he had left. With a growl of frustration InuYasha flung the useless piece of plastic across the room making it land perfectly in the garbage can followed by the tissue he used to clean the red dye off his finger tips, “Those lunatics are not coming without fifty yards of me if I have anything to say about it, not after ditching me at a bar with a dumb broad yet again. Besides I have a lot of work to do and I also have to find a good excuse for ruining my student's test.”
Sango glanced at the pile of useless plastic tubes splattered with ink and cocked an eyebrow, “Wow Yash what has got you so worked up you haven't been crushing pens at a rate like this since college.”
“Nothing.”
“You're a bad liar and you suck at hiding your anger, what did Bankotsu once call you … a seething caldron of rage and an idiot … no wait the idiot thing was Shippo,” she responded pointing a finger at him, “face it InuYasha you are about as easy to read as a book now if you don't start talking I will start guessing and I won't be kind.”
“Sango will you just stop-”
“And if you start up again about having to work I swear I'll hit you InuYasha Taisho.”
The two glared at each other testing the battle of wills, shining gold against harsh brown, but knowing Sango for as long as he did InuYasha already knew he didn't stand a chance. The woman had the stamina close to a demon since her grandfather had once been a demon slayer and insisted she be trained for protection and she had a glare worse than InuYasha's boss Naraku Onigumo. Poor InuYasha was toast if he didn't come up with a convincing lie of half-truth … better go with the half truth since Sango was a human lie detector.
“Feh I just have to teach an obnoxious little wolf demon kid dancing on my last good nerve, a real in your face know it all, the type that just pushes all my buttons at the same time,” muttered the silver haired hanyou as he searched for a new marking pen.
“Oh well anyway Miroku is here so now that my job of stalling you is done I am going to go get myself some coffee, bye-bye Yash,” Sango gave a quick wave and a smile before disappearing down the hall and in her place came the three people InuYasha really felt like he couldn't deal with.
“Damn that sneaky little-”
“Don't be insulting my fiancé InuYasha,” Miroku chimed, “she was doing what I asked even if she was a little bit more than eager to take the job. We knew you would try and run for it as soon as you heard we were coming so we asked dear Sango to stall.”
“Can't you guys just shoot me and get it over with,” feeling exhausted at the thought of spending another night of being abandoned at a bar by his friends InuYasha sat down and slumped in his chair.
Shippo shook his head and patted InuYasha on the back, “To easy there buddy boy.”
His golden eyes just glared coldly, “I am not going anywhere with you three.”
“Oh quit being a fucking pansy and get your things Yash we're just heading over to my shop for a couple beer,” Bankotsu snapped shoving InuYasha's briefcase in his lap and pulling him out the door.
