Hitchin' a Ride: Chapter Two

“There's only one room left,” Sango said with the keys to it in her hand. “But it's a double so we get our own bed.”

 

“Well that's good.” Kagome grabbed her small bag and followed her newfound friend.

 

“Kirara, baby, they said I couldn't bring you in, but I'll let you stay in my car, okay? I'm gonna leave the window down a bit, just enough for you to fit through,” Sango said to her cat. The cat acted as if it understood every word she said.

 

It replied with a long, “Meeeeooooow!” Then it rubbed up against her hand.

 

“'Night, Kirara!”

 

They both went to the room that they rented together. “I'm gonna take a shower, Sango.”

 

“Okay.”

The next morning Kagome woke up to her cell phone ringing. She hurried over to it. “Yeah?”

 

“Good mornin', sis'!” Sota said in a cheery voice. “Where you at?”

 

“Mornin', Sota. I'm at a motel in the middle of nowhere. So, how are you?” she asked as she gathered her stuff. Sango was already awake and taking a shower.

 

“I'm pretty good. Mom and Jay left a bit ago and I don't think they'll be back very soon. Mrs. Wilder let me come over here to call you.” Kagome heard Keade correct him by saying “Keade.” She let out a soft laugh.

 

“Tell Keade I said `hi and thanks',” Kagome told her brother.

 

He did as told. “Sis', why couldn't I have went with you? Mom wouldn't have even noticed me bein' gone. She didn't really care when she found that note. She just… said `A-huh', crumpled it up and threw it away. When she left the room I got it and now I have it.”

 

“Bub', I'll get you as soon as I can, but right now it isn't a good time. Mom will notice you bein' gone; she may be a drunk but she isn't blind. I want you to stay with Keade as much as you can, you hear me?”

 

“Yeah, I get ya. Did you know you left some of your stuff in my room?” he asked her.

 

She smiled. “You found it. I want you to take care of it, okay?”

 

“Yeah… you know I will.”

 

Sango came out of the bathroom and asked, “You ready?”

 

“Yeah, just a second. Sota, I'll call you later, okay?”

 

“Okay.” They both hung up their phones.

 

“Was that your brother?” Sango asked.

 

“Yep. That was my little brother,” Kagome answered. “Let's go.”

 

Sango returned the key and got into the car where Kagome was already waiting.

 

“You decide where you're going yet?” Sango asked as she pulled out of the parking lot.

 

“Maybe.”

 

“Maybe?” Sango asked. “Is that on the map?”

 

Kagome laughed. “You wanna travel around for a while… Decide where we wanna go by checkin' out other places? That's where Maybe is. Maybe is Paradise.”

 

The two girls noticed a guy with short black hair walking along the highway and slowed down to a stop. “Need a ride?” Kagome asked.

 

“Yeah, sure do,” he said. He climbed into the back seat. “The name's Miroku. And you two lovely ladies are?”

 

“Kagome.”

 

“Sango. So, where ya headin'? Is it close or far? We have all the time in the world…” Sango said.

 

“Well…” Miroku thought for a moment. “Alls I need is a trip to a gas station to call to get a ride. But since this is a cab system I think I might go to New York.”

 

“New York isn't as fun as it sounds,” Sango said. “I've lived there. You might like it, but it wasn't that much fun for me. Everyone's always so busy and stressed out. But if that's where you wanna go…”

 

Sango was cut off by Kagome's cell phone ringing. “Yeah?” Kagome answered her phone.

 

“Kagome! Why did you leave? How do you expect me to eat every night without you cooking for me? Huh bitch? Get your fuckin' ass home! NOW!” a man yelled.

 

“Naraku, you little bitch, you really think I'll come home to your ass? What makes you think that I would ever go back to that Hell hole?”

 

Naraku laughed manically. “You are… you're one dumb bitch aren't you? You left your brother with me and your mom… you know what that means, don't you? Well since you're such a dumb bitch I'll tell you. That means we have him… that means we have his money… we have you.”

 

Kagome was speechless. Those bastards! How could they do that to her? She left to get away from that shit and now… they still have her and her brother!

 

“Mind telling me what's on your pea for a brain?” Naraku asked. He was a really immature asshole. He was insulting her intelligence to make her come home! But that wasn't going to work. No. She wouldn't let them do that.

 

“Yeah, I will tell you. You are one dumb fuck, ain't you? You really think that your puny threats will get me back? That is the exact fuckin' reason I left your ass!” Kagome spat. “And how the fuck did you get my fuckin' number?”

 

“Keade…she's a very reliable person. She gave all that information to Sota… alls I had to do was beat him a few times and he told me everything. He told me your number, who you're with, where you're headin'… I know. I'll be waiting for you in Paradise.”

 

“Ew… and just when I thought you couldn't get more dumb you pull this shit! Sota didn't know where I was or where I was headin'! You are one dumb fuck!” Kagome hang up on Naraku and turned her cell phone off.

 

She was so pissed that her face had a red tent to it.

 

“Um…” Miroku said. “Bad break up?”

 

“Bad life's more like it,” Kagome said. It came out a bit snappier than she intended for it to. “Sango, I think they're beating on Sota… you should have heard what Naraku was saying!”

 

Sango face dropped. “Did you say `Naraku'?”

 

“Yeah, why?”

 

“Naraku was the drunken bastard that killed my family!” A deer jumped out in front of the car and Sango slammed her brakes, but it was too late. She hit the deer. Everyone slammed forward, including Kirara. Kagome hit her head on the dashboard and that was the last thing she remembered.

There ya go! Sorry my chapters are so short! I'm always short on time and even shorter on creative ideas. I'm gonna try to keep the chapters coming every day like I did with my last story. I know in the anime Kagome's mom isn't a bitch like in my story, but I had to make her like that or I don't think Kagome would have left.
