Chapter 7: Unforeseen Portent

Sakura lay flat on her stomach, her chin resting on the back of her hands as she tried to study near the fire that Jaken had build. She had missed so much of school, she was wondering if she was about to flunk every paper when exams come. Kagome had told her that her school teachers love to give test in class. For a straight `A' student she couldn't even think of herself flunking every single paper. She sighed as she turned the page of her Physics text book; she swung both her feet to and fro in mid air as she read the book.

Self studying is so difficult. She thought in frustration.

"Electron is negative, so proton is positive…" Sakura mumbled under breath as she pushed herself up slightly reaching for her bag without looking her hand moved around the ground to look for it. Her hand then enclosed onto something.

That doesn't seem like my bag… She thought to herself patting it and gradually moved her hand upwards and realized she had grabbed hold of a foot. She sweat drop.

Please don't tell me he is who I'm thinking he is! She thought slightly flustered.

Slowly she turned and looked up gradually to find herself craning her neck looking at a very tall and handsome Youkai whose golden eyes stared back at her with slight amusement though it only lasted for a second and his expression remained emotionless again. She swallowed and quickly moved her hand away from him.

"Sesshoumaru-sama," Sakura stammered slightly getting up to a sitting position.

"Don't you think you should get some rest?" He asked looking down at her impassively.

He had been watching her ever since she had settled down near the fire, reading a very peculiar looking kind of book. He knew that it was almost midnight and that girl did not show any sign of wanting to go to sleep nor did she look up from that book once as she continued to read and sometimes mumbled sentences that he couldn't understand at all. Even though it was soft, he could hear them very clearly because of his sharp hearing for an Inu-Youkai. Not wanting to just watch her lying there, he finally gotten up from under the tree he usually rest and walked up to her, only to be amused by her thinking his leg was the funny looking bag she carries around.

"I'm not tired." Sakura smiled standing up so she didn't need to crane her neck looking at him.

"What are you doing?" He looked down at the book that still lay opened on the ground.

"Oh," Sakura bent over to the book to pick it up. "This is what we learned back in Tokyo… I mean place…er… back home?"

She frowned slightly when she realized she didn't have a word to describe where she was from.

"You told Rin about school." Sesshoumaru said then after a short pause passed.

"Hai," Sakura nodded. "There are a lot of schools where I come from. I only go to one particular one near where I stay."

Sesshoumaru walked over passed her; back to the tree sat down. After he settled down he looked at Sakura's solemn face who stared back at him.

"Explain, more about the place you call Tokyo."

Sakura smiled slightly walking over to him and sat down next to him then. She was surprised and also slightly pleased to know Sesshoumaru suddenly had an interest to know about the place she came from.

"It is a very big place; they call it a city, where there are homes build of stones and skyscrapers…" Sakura paused for a moment to think how to explained skyscrapers to him. "Well, er… shelters as tall as trees some of them even taller."

Sesshoumaru remained silent as he listened to Sakura talking about her home. He never heard her talk this much before. The sound of her voice sound so melodic in his ears and with her sitting so close to him, her scent was overpowering his nose. He had to use all his demonic power just to push down the urge to grabbed her and kiss her then. He doesn't understand why he had such a feeling for this girl and she was only a human girl after all and proof to be weak.

Why am I feeling like that? Sesshoumaru wondered as he turned his gaze away from Sakura. She is only a mere human being and nothing else. Isn't she?

Not far from them, another who wasn't asleep was flashing dangerous glares towards the couple under the tree. Xiaran who everyone thought had fallen asleep was actually wide awake watching and waiting for everyone to go to bed so that she could be alone with her Sesshoumaru. But unfortunately, Sakura didn't sleep as she stayed by the fire reading a book when Sesshoumaru approached her.

That filthy scum, seducing my Sessy! She thought angrily as her claws scratched the dirt. Just wait, you will regret even going close to my Sessy!

"Well, I guess I don't make any sense to you, don't I?" Sakura said after she finished telling Sesshoumaru about Tokyo. "There are so many things that exist in my home country, which you have never seen before." She sighed. "I sometime feel like I had fallen back through time, though truthfully I have no idea were I am or how I got here in the first place."

"Are you planning to go back?" Sesshoumaru asked.

"Well, if I know how to." Sakura smiled sadly. "My aunt, ojiisan and cousins will be very worried by now. I have been away for so long. They might be thinking I'm dead or something."

"Won't they be looking for you?"

"I guess they will." Sakura said doubtfully and yawned. "If they know where I had gone."

"Why didn't you answer Rin when she asked you about your younger sister?" Sesshoumaru asked as he stared straight ahead.

There was silence for Sakura didn't reply. Sesshoumaru never thought that Sakura would avoid answering his questions were slightly disappointed when he felt something fell on his furs lightly. He turned to see Sakura had already fallen asleep resting her head on his furs peacefully.

She never ever slept near him before, for she always preferred to rest in a distance from him and this was the first time ever Sakura had fallen asleep next to him. Gently, Sesshoumaru inhaled her scent and smiled softly to himself as he watched her saintly and beautiful features of her face. Every part of her was lovely and Sesshoumaru never felt like that for neither any Youkai nor human before and this feeling was very new to him.

She finally learned how to trust me. He thought surprised of the slight gladness he felt. He leans back on the tree and closed his eyes to rest then as he let her scent engulf him. He could not understand why this particular girl had such a huge affect him.

The next morning, when Sakura stirred, she was welcomed by the most comfortable softness around her cheeks. With her eyes still closed she absent mindedly rubbed her face on it gently and realized how warm it is and furry. Furry? Her eyes snapped opened and saw white clouds. No, it is not clouds, they are furs…

She pulled her head back then and back away, to see Sesshoumaru awake and looking very uptight with his gaze somewhere else. She gulped then.

"Go…gomenasai," Sakura stammered and quickly got up to her feet and ran off towards the river.

Sesshoumaru was at the urge to cuddle Sakura when she had rubbed her face gently on him. Somehow it felt really pleasing and he didn't want her to stop but his pride had stopped him from doing anything to a human being. When Sakura bolt away from him, he didn't stop her even though he didn't want her to leave so abruptly. Her scent still lingers around him even after she was gone making him slightly light headed.

What is happening? Sesshoumaru wondered.

Sakura dropped to her knees when she reached the bank of the river breathing heavily. She looked down into the river to see her own reflection and found her face flushed bright red looking back at her.

What just happened? She had panicked, and ran. She shook her head and quickly splashed the cold river water on her face. She didn't know what else to do when she saw Sesshoumaru looking like he hated her presence.

Sakura, baka! She scolded herself then. Why must I feel comfortable and fell asleep next to him last night. One of the stupidest things to do.

"You think that you had won, you are wrong!"

A very malicious voice spoke behind Sakura said then. Sakura frowned turning her head slightly to see Xiaran standing not far away from her scowling at her with her hands crossed in front of her. Sakura stood up gradually and turned around to face her.

"I don't know what you are talking about? Sakura said after a short pause.

"Do you think I'm stupid?" Xiaran snapped. "I know you like my Sessy and don't you deny it."

Like? Sakura thought. How could I like a demon? That just doesn't make any sense!

"I was watching you last night and how you seduce my Sessy." Xiaran said making threatening moves towards Sakura.

Sakura hold her ground glared back at her. "I don't know what you are talking about." She repeated.

"You were there under the same tree sitting next to my Sessy." Xiaran shouted.

"For your information, we were just talking." Sakura said calmly.

"Sakura!" Suddenly they heard Jaken's voice. "We are making a move! Sesshoumaru-sama had asked me to come fetch you back."

Sakura was very glad that Jaken had come at that time, even though she didn't show it. Still glaring at Xiaran she walked passed her towards Jaken who waited for her. They walked back together to Sesshoumaru and Rin.

Sesshoumaru saw Xiaran walking towards where Sakura had gone and knew immediately that she was about to cause problems and told Jaken to go see to it and bring Sakura back to the group. He was glad when he saw her coming, walking next to Jaken her eyes covered by her long fringe.

"Ohayo, Sakura-neechan!" Rin cried running towards Sakura, her arms outstretched.

Sakura looked up slightly and smiled kneeling down for Rin to run into her embrace. She picked Rin up swiftly and stood up.

"Have a good night sleep last night?" Sakura asked cheerfully.

"Hai," Rin smiled. "You have a nice night too, I saw you look very comfortable sleeping next to Sesshoumaru-sama."

Sakura's smile faded immediately, feeling heat rushing up her face again. Quickly she turned away from Sesshoumaru so that he wouldn't see her face.

Sesshoumaru watched Sakura's cheerful smile faded as she turned away from him. He frowned slightly but took no heed to it as he turned away as well, to start on their journey again.

"Let's go," Sesshoumaru ordered then.

Jaken quickly grabbed Ah Aun's reins and Sakura followed along with Rin still in her arms her head slightly lowered so that she didn't have to look at Sesshoumaru.

At the mean while, Xiaran watched them walking away, her eyes narrowed as she thought of an idea to get rid of Sakura once at for all. She walked away from them making her way deeper into the forest.

It was perhaps nearly noon, when Sesshoumaru suddenly stopped walking as he stared straight ahead narrowing his eyes. A very huge snake Youkai appeared attacking them. Rin screamed clutching closer to Sakura and she turned away hiding Rin in her embrace. Sesshoumaru took out his Toikijin and slashed the snake once and it shattered into dust.

Something is not right, he thought as he caught a very bad scent of Youkais further ahead all coming their way.

"Jaken, stay here with Sakura and Rin." Sesshoumaru demanded before he jumped up into the air and disappeared between the trees.

Jaken placed his Nintoujo in front of him on guard. However, Sakura back away when she felt bad aura in front of them where Sesshoumaru had gone. She had back off towards the edge of the forest when suddenly a pair of hands reached out for her clasping her mouth grabbing her back. Quickly she dropped Rin to the ground and she was taken.

"Jaken-sama!" Rin cried when she saw Sakura being snatched away.

When Jaken turned around, Sakura was already gone.

Sesshoumaru slashed the last snake Youkai, when he felt something wasn't right. Quickly he flew back to where he had left Sakura and the others only to find, Rin, Jaken and Ah Aun still around. Rin was crying as she sat on the ground.

"Sesshoumaru-sama!" Rin sobbed. "Someone came out from the forest and took Sakura-neechan!"

"I'm so sorry Sesshoumaru-sama," Jaken bowed low knocking his head on the ground.

Without answering them, he dashed into the forest where he still could sense Sakura's scent and another scent very familiar to him. Xiaran! Sesshoumaru cursed inwardly. He should have known better, Xiaran would be up to one of her tricks.

The last thing Sakura could remember was something ambushed her from the back and everything went dark after that. She didn't know how long she had lost consciousness but when she woke up she found herself in very unfamiliar surroundings. The trees were thick and the place was dark for no sunlight could come through the thick leaves above. Her head hurt awfully and instinctively she placed her hand on the back of her head to find her hair plastered with some kind of sticky hot liquid. She lowered her hand to see, dark red liquid smeared on her palm. Blood! Her blood; someone must had knocked her from the back when they kidnapped her.

Someone appeared from behind the trees then. Sakura quickly stood up and on guard in her fighting position; placing both hands up in front of her and found herself staring at Xiaran's cruel face. She smirked as she glared back at Sakura.

"Woken up?" Xiaran sneered.

"You!" Sakura exclaimed.

"Well, I did tell you that you won't get away with it."

"Why?" Sakura asked lowering her hands. She couldn't understand, why she could be so mean, when she didn't do anything wrong to her.

"You took my Sessy away from me, so you will have to pay!" Xiaran screamed.

"I didn't," Sakura groaned. Her head was already spinning and she could still feel blood rushing down the back of her neck from the gash. "What are you going to do?"

Sakura knew she couldn't fight her without a weapon.

"Well, I'm not going to do the dirty job of course." Xiaran said as she back away from the place. "You will be expecting company. These demons sense human blood and it drive them crazy.

Sakura blinked. Demons? Why are there so many demons around here? She moaned inwardly looking around when she heard a loud roar.

When she turned back to where Xiaran stood before, she was no longer there. But her evil laughter echoed the forest.

Sakura had never been so frightened in her life before as she looked around the forest surroundings. Not long later she saw a pair of glowing purple eyes looking back at her. She back away from it, to realize that there wasn't only one pair when several pairs suddenly appeared one after another around her.

She didn't know whether to scream, to run or to hide when they approached her. When they came out from the shadows, she freaked. To see a huge pink slimy kind of creature their face distorted, their mouth looking as distorted with sharp fangs, horns on the top of their head and four pair of slimy looking hands approaching her slowly sniffing the air. Her blood was driving them closer to her.

Sesshoumaru could sense Sakura close when he reached the heart of the forest. His anxiety increased when he sensed something else close by. These Youkais had always stayed away from the day and love to suck human blood. In the forest, the usually catch small animals and others which come their way for they hardly come out from the forest. He could sense than Sakura was wounded because the scent of her blood was very strong.

Sakura dodged away when one of them lunged at her. She was glad that their movements were slow as she was able to avoid their attacks. The pain on her head was now so hard to endure she was wondering how long she was going to last out here. She didn't want to die here, not like this!

Slowly her vision started to blur.

Oh no! Sakura's mind screamed shaking her head violently. Not now, I can't pass out now!

Unaware three of them lung at her, at the last minute she managed to escape the two but one of them caught her throwing her back towards a tree.

Sakura's scream carried all the way to Sesshoumaru.

Sesshoumaru cursed inwardly, his emotions taking over then as his eyes turning red and fangs appearing…

The last thing Sakura remembered was the whole group of them started towards her as she sank to the ground and everything went dark.

Rin: My butt actually hurts from being dropped so suddenly.

Sakura: I'm so sorry. Does it hurt badly?

Rin: (Grinned) Just kidding, the ground was soft actually.

Sakura: (Frown at Rin)

Rin: (Grin broadly) Gotcha!

Sakura: Where is Ray by the way?

Rin: Don't know.

Sakura: She is going to get a good piece of my mind when she appears.

Rin: Why?

Sakura: Look at this red gooey stuff that is supposed to be blood on my hair, what if it doesn't come off? I am going to kill her!

Rin: I'm sure she is around somewhere.

Sakura: I know (Looking around the room dangerously her hands on her hips.)

Ray hiding in the shadows sweat drop appeared on her head.

Muahahahhaa! Yes I know I stopped suddenly… I didn't want this chapter to be too long so in will be continued in the next… can't think of a title for it yet… though the whole story is in my head already…. I will update soon… Thanks for supporting me.
