Chapter 3: The Mark
“O..oh...that...?” Kagome said nervously, feeling the scratch with her hand again. “I have no idea what your talking about!” Kagome said quickly, trying to back away.
“Do you have any idea what this means?!” Inuyasha yelled into her face, scaring her to pale face.
“.....No....” she answered quietly, shifting nervously, staring at the ground. Inuyasha opened his mouth to speak, when he breathed in the stench of a demon. He dropped Kagome, pulled out Tetsusaiga, and stood in a defensive stance, waiting for the demon. Kagome almost starting giggling, she had already figured out who it was. ‘I guess Inuyasha has bad sense of smell today or something...’ Kagome thought, trying not to burst out laughing as she watched Shippo fly through the trees, and nibble on one of Inuyasha’s ears.
“Shiiiipoooooo.....” Inuyasha said menacingly, giving Shippo a glare that could scare an entire human army. Shippo ran and jumped into Kagome’s arms, hiding behind her hands.
“Kagome, Inuyasha is trying to hurt me!” Shippo whined, trying to look as innocent as possible.
“Inuyasha, be nice! He was just joking around! No reason to scare him to death!” Kagome said, standing up.
“Grrr....” Inuyasha growled, giving the “runt” a glare and turning around.
“We’ll talk about our other conversation later.” said Inuyasha, as Sango and Miroku bounded out of the bushes, looking exhausted.
“Shippo, it is not wise to run off by yourself.” Miroku said, as he caught his breath.
“Ya! You could have been attacked, and we wouldn’t be able to protect you!” Sango also lectured, looking like she was about to collapse.
“I’m sorry....I just wanted to play a trick on Inuyasha, and to see Kagome!” Shippo replied guiltily, as Inuyasha glared at him.
“Just...don’t do that anymore!” Miroku said, plopping down against a tree, Sango soon following. Although, she chose the tree farthest away from Miroku’s.
“I guess we should get some sleep.” Kagome suggested. “ Unless were not going shard hunting tomorrow...” Kagome said, looking over at Inuyasha with hope in her eyes.
“We are leaving at dawn, and it is rumored that there is a shard toward the west.” Inuyasha said, as everyone groaned and prepared they’re bedding for sleep.
“Kagome, I want to talk to you.” Inuyasha said, walking into the woods. Kagome followed, already knowing what was on his mind.
‘What am I supposed to say? Should I say anything? Oh Kami I’m doomed!’ Kagome thought nervously, her heart beat racing. “Um....where are we going?” Kagome asked, trying to get her mind off of her and Inuyasha’s conversation they will be having.
“Where I am sure no one will be able to listen without me knowing.” Inuyasha replied, not even looking back. So, they kept on walking, and walking, and walking....
“Inuyasha!!” Kagome whined. “We have to get up at sunrise tomorrow! When are we gunna get there?” Kagome said, tired from the events of the last few days.
“Were here already! Now would’ya shut up?” Inuyasha yelled, finally turning to look at her.
“Ok, ok!” Kagome replied, putting her hands up in defeat. Inuyasha walked into the clearing, and sat down in the middle, motioning for her to sit in front of him. ‘Oh no! He’s really serious about this...’ Kagome thought nervously, sitting down in front of him.
“I’m gunna ask you some questions, just to make sure that what I think is true.” He said, staring her right in the eye.
“O..ok.” Kagome replied nervously, fidgiting with her fingers in her lap.
“Where did you go yesterday?” Inuyasha asked first.
“I don’t know, I just ran for a little while, that’s all.” Kagome answered, remembering what had caused her to run.
“Who did you run into?” Inuyasha asked as his second question, his eyes reflecting worry.
“Um...” Kagome didn’t want to answer that one. ‘What will he say when I have to tell him that I healed Sesshoumare?!’ Kagome thought, getting more and more nervous by the minute.
“Just tell me!” Inuyasha demanded impatiently, trying to remain as calm as possible.
“....” Kagome paused for a moment, then decided to just say it. “Sesshoumaru...” she whispered softly, staring down at her hands.
“What happened while you were with Sesshoumaru?” Inuyasha asked, his voice becoming angrier by the minute.
“I....I...” Kagome definately didn’t want to answer that! “I healed him, ok!?” Kagome screamed, getting frustrated about keeping it bottled up.
“Why would you do that?! You know he is our enemy!” Inuyasha yelled, loosing his control.
“I couldn’t just leave him there! I would never leave something injured to die! You know that!” Kagome yelled, becoming enraged. Inuyasha calmed down, and decided to keep asking questions.
“What did he do to you?” Inuyasha asked, pointing to the mark on her collarbone. Kagome started thinking back on what had happened. That’s when she remembered.
“He drew this mark, then said he would repay me for my services...” was Kagome’s reply, sounding dazed from thoughts of Sesshoumaru.
“Kagome....” Inuyasha started in a worried tone. “Do you want to get married to someone in your time someday?” Inuyasha asked, waiting for her reply.
“Um...I don’t know. I might, but I really like it here, and I might find true love here.” Kagome said, confused. “Why do you ask?”
“Because I have marked you as a potential mate.”
