New Life

 

Akemi saw the whole thing happen as if it was in slow motion. Asuna had thrown herself in from of Inuyasha's Adamant Barrage. Asuna had also taken the Tensaiga and she knew what she would do with it. Akemi threw down her naginata as the uppyr were fleeing after their leader. The King if the Uppyr but it looked as if Asuna, Jin, and Naraku had dealt him some nasty blows. She ran quickly to where the two inu lords stood with her father.

“We have to find her; she will not survive those wounds for long.” Jin said almost panicked.

“She took the Tensaiga; how can she wield the Tensaiga Sesshomaru?” Inuyasha said glaring at his brother.

“Inuyasha shut up!” Sesshomaru snarled.

“Excuse me Lord Jin but I am going to touch you for a moment.” Akemi said grabbing his arm.

Her Aunt Augusta had been teaching her to channel her now telepathic powers and connections. She tapped into Jin's bond with Asuna and instantly knew where they were.

“What are you doing?” Jin asked angry.

“Seeing if she lives.” Akemi answered snotty toned.

“I know she still lives, I feel it but it is weak.” He snapped.

“I am sorry for my impertinence my Lord. I need to retrieve my weapon.” Akemi said running in the other direction.

Inuyasha and Sesshomaru knew Akemi well enough she was up to something but were unable to leave and waited for Jin to locate Asuna through their bond.

Akemi was thrilled that they were in the castle near Edo. It would be much faster. Battles always seemed to take place near her childhood home. She ran with her newfound speed and raced to the castle. If Naraku's barrier dropped then Jin would find Asuna quickly. She prayed that Asuna had used the Tensaiga on him and quickly. Jin had a particular talent of injecting his yoki through cuts with his fang. It was insidious and she had seen it render enemies dead quickly. Naraku had actually been fighting with Vlad and had no barrier up when the Panyu Lord had struck. Jin acted out of jealousy and her father and uncle out of revenge. None had cared that they all had broken a promise to Asuna.

She made it to the castle and she had masked her trail.

-Naraku if you hear me this is Akemi, I am Asuna's cousin and a friend to you! Let me in! - She thought forcefully.

She felt the hanyou strong mental signature and he actually let her through. He was masked heavily and she was thankful. Asuna was still alive but barely hanging on to life. She ran at a break neck speed and made it there in just a few minutes. She scented Asuna and found the hanyou bent over pressing cloths to her big wounds and she could smell the miasma.

“I have to take her back to Sesshomaru. I have to take the Tensaiga back also Naraku.” Akemi said softly.

He looked up at her and his eyes were burning.

“They cared not for her but for their revenge on me! They do not deserve her!” he thundered.

“I know but she could die and Tensaiga will respond to my uncle's will.” Akemi said again softly.

“I will not lose her again. I will kill your entire family if necessary.” he threatened.

“Somehow we children of your enemies do not hate you. I know her twin knows of you and has no ill will. I have known from the start and I helped her to return to you in the past.” Akemi said looking at him entreatingly.

“I will take her back once she is healed, I will not wait this time.” He said.

“Osamu and I will help you.” She confirmed.

“I cannot believe you would betray your own families.” He snorted.

“Osamu is tied to her as her twin and her other half so to speak. She has been a staunch supporter of me always. I love my family but my loyalty is to her.” Akemi said.

“I cannot leave her.” he said quietly.

“If you do not you will lose her forever to a more unforgiving master, the Netherworld.” She said touching his shoulder.

Naraku looked up at the child of Inuyasha and the Miko Kagome and nodded.

“Mizuki is at Hakurei-zan. I know she wanted you to take her in case she fell; that has happened. I suggest you take her elsewhere off the islands and procure her a wet nurse. Mayu has strict orders to release her to you and only you.” Akemi said grabbing her cousin's prone form.

“After all this is done, then what?” he said quickly.

“Osamu and I have already decided that we are going to get Asuna to you if she lives.” Akemi said quietly.

“Take her and go!” Naraku said.

“This is a new life Naraku. Take it and do not look back.” Akemi said.

He nodded and disappeared into his miasma and so did his barrier around the castle. Akemi took the Tensaiga and held Asuna to her but it was awkward. She knew they would be there very soon and moved toward the castle court yard.

Jin, Sesshomaru, and Inuyasha raced to the abandoned castle. Jin had confirmed the Asuna was still alive but barely. What they found astonished them and Akemi was holding Tensaiga and Asuna.

“It's about freaking time you got here!!!” Akemi cursed at them.

“How?” Inuyasha asked.

“New abilities Father. Aunt Augusta is a powerful telepath and gave me some of that ability. Take her and make her well. Naraku is gone.” Akemi said.

“Had she used Tensaiga?” Sesshomaru asked narrowing his eyes.

“No, she hadn't the strength. The hanyou made his escape but he was trying to save her.” Akemi lied smoothly.

“My blow should have least wounded him severely.” Jin said narrowing his eyes.

“I didn't say he was not wounded my Lord.” She said snappishly.

“What is wrong with you onna?” Jin snapped.

“I seem to remember a promise to my cousin by all of you. You swore that if she came back that you would not hunt Naraku down. You all lied!” She sneered.

“This Sesshomaru will not answer to you nor does he think any of us need explain the actions. You know his history!” the Western Lord sneered.

“You broke your word my Lord!” Akemi yelled.

“Inuyasha take your niece.” Sesshomaru commanded.

“No she is my mate.” Jin picking up Asuna's broken body.

He listened to her shallow breathing and went and gently held her.

“I am taking her back to the Western Palace Sesshomaru-sama.” Jin said.

“Hai.” Sesshomaru answered with barely contained fury.

Akemi handed her uncle Tensaiga and glared over her shoulder.

“Talk sense to your daughter hanyou.” Sesshomaru snarled.

“I do not side with Naraku by any means but you lied to your own daughter!” Akemi shrieked.

“She lied to me first.” Sesshomaru roared.

“Jing was hunting her and she was trying to find a way out of a bad situation! The Kamis are the ones that intervened; it was not Asuna that sought him out. It was fate. She did not do any of this to spite the great Lord Sesshomaru.” Akemi snarled.

Inuyasha grabbed his daughter and she fought and he marveled at her new found strength.

“What do you mean exactly?” Sesshomaru said calmly.

“Somehow the Kamis have interfered. Asuna can astral project but she cannot control it. She saw him first in a dream. She did not want to betray you but now you ask her to betray her heart. Whatever Naraku is to you; he worships her! Mizuki was not even conceived normally. The Kamis have interfered and you should take your anger out on them!” Akemi said in a low snarl.

“This changes everything.” Sesshomaru said in a calmer voice.

“How?” Inuyasha asked.

“Have you not figured out little brother that there are bigger things afoot than just Naraku?” Sesshomaru said irritated.

“How can anything be bigger than that?” he asked in anger.

“This time my daughter and that irritating hanyou have been used. Both are powerful; Asuna will surpass even me one day. Naraku has all the potential for tremendous power.” Sesshomaru said.

“I cannot believe it!” Akemi espoused.

“What??” Inuyasha shouted in rage.

“Mizuki houses a Kami's soul you dolt. That would explain her unusual yoki present from the womb.” Sesshomaru shook his head.

“You forgive her right?” Akemi cried.

“I have to. She has been a pawn as the hanyou has been. She still loves him obviously but my question is now, what do they want?” The Western Lord said darkly.

“Mizuki is innocent as of yet Uncle.” Akemi cried.

“For now. We have to find out what is going on.” He said straightening.

Inuyasha looked stumped and Sesshomaru smacked him on the head. Akemi looked relieved.

“Naraku is innocent in this venture. I cannot believe I say that.” Sesshomaru mumbled.

“Asuna swears he is not the same, she says he his different.” Akemi said.

“A century can change an individual.” Sesshomaru nodded.

“Are you saying that Naraku is no longer the enemy?” Inuyasha asked irately.

“Hai that is what I am saying.” Sesshomaru said sighing.

“I can't believe this!” the hanyou cried.

“If there is any hope of saving Mizuki from the Kamis clutches we have to find out what in the seven hells they have planned.” He said.

Jin laid her body on the futon and brushed the silver hair off her forehead. She was covered in dried blood and it stained her hair and whole body. He actually understood her saving the blasted hanyou; she was just honorable in that way. The palace healer came in and began cleaning her wounds slowly. Her left arm was ruined at the shoulder and would need much time to heal.

“Will she survive?” he asked in a sorrowful tone.

“She stills live Lord Jin but she will have to fight.” The old inu said.

“She withstood a blast from the Tetsaiga.” Jin said.

“She will have much to recover from. She will probably be in a coma though as she heals.” The healer said.

“Would you stand in front of a fang's attack for me?” he asked quietly.

Jin sighed and refused to give up on this most difficult onna. Katashi had been pushed to the side and he refused to be like the sniveling Manchu mutt. He sat back and wondered as to why it was so quiet and realized he had not heard Mizuki's cries. He looked at the healer and stood up.

“I will return.” He replied.

“Hai my Lord.” The ancient inu said.

Jin went in search of Mayu and she was not found. The twins were with a neko nurse maid. Jin grew angry and realized that Asuna had spirited the pup out right under their noses.

“Damnit Asuna!” he growled.

He ported himself to Sesshomaru and Inuyasha's last whereabouts and picked up the scent. Her cousin was covering up for his devious mate. Asuna had known they were going to take out the hanyou filth. Rage tore through him and he stalked the Western Lord and his brother. It took him a few hours to reach them and he growled loudly when he came upon them.

“Where is the pup wench?” Jin asked furiously of Akemi.

“I have no idea what you speak of.” Akemi said narrowing her blue eyes.

“Mizuki is gone?” Sesshomaru asked surprised.

“Hai Sesshomaru-sama. Mayu and Mizuki are gone.” Jin said glaring at Akemi.

“You can quit the glaring asshole. I will rip your face off.” Inuyasha snapped.

“Enough!” Sesshomaru snapped.

Jin glared at Akemi and she crossed her arms across her chest defiantly.

“We are no longer going to go after the hanyou Lord Jin. We have bigger problems afoot.” Sesshomaru commented.

“Excuse me?” Jin asked shocked.

“Asuna and Naraku have been played by some errant Kamis or demigods.” Sesshomaru informed him.

“Mizuki houses a Kami soul?” Jin asked shocked.

“Think about it.” Sesshomaru said quietly.

“Son of a bitch.” Jin cursed.

“Whoever had Asuna and Naraku meet knew their personalities and powers would mesh.” Akemi offered.

“Could it be that whoever just took advantage of the situation?” Jin said in irritation.

“That could be true but why would a powerful spirit want to be here anyway?” Inuyasha asked.

“Power, loneliness, or just plain boredom?” Sesshomaru said shrugging.

“So you are saying that you accept the union of Asuna and Naraku?” Jin asked.

“This Sesshomaru does not approve no. He will no longer hunt the hanyou anymore. You and Asuna will have to work out your issues.” Sesshomaru said evenly.

“Great. You are a fool Sesshomaru.” Jin growled.

“You are the fool Jin; you go after him in jealousy. Asuna was already pupped by him when she met you and you claimed her from her mating with Sheng. The House of the Moon goes after him for his transgressions against our persons.” Sesshomaru growled back.

“My rights supersede the hanyou. Panyu law is clear and I will not be giving up my mate or my daughter to him!” Jin snarled.

“You may have to give up Mizuki. I do not see Naraku just handing her over. Asuna lives?” Sesshomaru asked.

“Hai she lives. She is in a comatose state.” Jin said irately.

“Right now our concern should be getting Asuna well and recovering the pup.” Sesshomaru said.

“Why not just let Naraku have her?” Inuyasha asked.

“Because you baka; Mizuki has a lot of power and we should keep her within the family. It is a wonder you survived this long!” Sesshomaru snorted.

Inuyasha growled and Jin looked furious. Jin moved next to Sesshomaru and motioned for him to stop.

“I love Asuna and I am telling you now that she is my mate and regardless of her status as your heir, she is the Lady of Guangzhou first!” Jin said in a hushed but angry tone.

“This Sesshomaru will tolerate your insults only so long Lord Jin. First and foremost Asuna is a future Lord of the West and make no mistake it will be done to that end.” Sesshomaru said glacially.

“I respect your power Sesshomaru-sama but I am a force to be reckoned with, I assure you of that.” Jin said stepping back.

The two inu lords stared at each other with simmering anger and Jin stalked off. Inuyasha looked impatient and Akemi rolled her eyes.

Augusta lay next to her daughter's broken body and shook with anger. They were all fools and her sweet girl took the brunt of it. Asuna almost gave her life up for one male to have the other try and control her. Sesshomaru would have hell to pay as well as Inuyasha. Mayu sat with both ladies and had confided where the infant Mizuki was and the great lady understood.

“They are all going to think so many things and they cannot accept that Asuna just fell in love with him. They cannot fathom in their damn inu minds that there are such kinds of love in the world. Touga could not even be faithful to Natsumi, Sesshomaru's mother! Augusta growled at the former Western Lady, she was heartless and soulless bitch. She thanked her God every day that Sesshomaru at least took after Touga some.

“I know my Lady. I was as shocked as everybody when I found out about him but I have seen him with her. He loves her same as the Lord loves you.” Mayu said.

“Did you help him procure a wet nurse?” Augusta asked.

“Hai. He took her to the other side of China. They will not find them anywhere near Japan.” Mayu said quietly.

“Is he good with her?” The Western Lady asked.

“Hai my Lady. I do not even think he handled the Shikon no Tama that gingerly.” She said.

“You serve this family's ladies well Mayu. I am sorry that you were barren and could have none of your own.” Augusta said gently.

“I have loved yours as they were mine my Lady.” Mayu bowed.

“I intend to find him and give him something.” Augusta stood.

“My Lady your own pup is due very soon!” Mayu protested.

“Ah yes but I intend to be back very soon. Guard Asuna and do not let those knuckle heads do any damage to my girl.” Augusta said moving with grace.

Augusta had gotten a nearby location from Mayu's brain and she fingered the pouch she held. Naraku would have found a remote and out of the way place and settled there. Mongolia was as far removed from Japan as one could get without going into Europe. She stood by a powerful barrier and dipped into the hanyou's mind.

-Let me pass, it is I Augusta. I bring you word of Asuna. - She thought.

He lowered the barrier immediately and she ported herself inside the castle. The amount of yoki drained her in her advanced state of pregnancy. Naraku looked up in shock and stared. He held his daughter as she slept and Augusta knew she would fight for his side too.

“Asuna is in a coma. They expect her to stay that way for awhile as her body heals. It is a testament to her strength that she survived the Adamant Barrage at all.” She said gently.

“I am sorry that I ever used you in ill gotten plans.” He said softly.

“You will spoil her if you hold her all the time.” Augusta said smiling gently.

“I do not care. She is mine. I can not even say that of Asuna but this babe is mine.” He said looking down.

“She is more yours than you know. She may have strong feelings for Jin but she threw herself in front of a direct attack for you.” Augusta said sitting.

“Why else are you here?” he asked.

“To give you this and plenty of gold to hire servants if need be.” Augusta said as she handed him two pouches.

He felt the weight of one and it was heavy with gold and the other was feather light. He opened it and the Jewel of Four Souls glowed within the pouch.

“How in the seven hells did you come by this?” he said in utter shock.

“I have had it since you fell a century ago. It was assumed that your wish and those of the others in the tachi would make it disappear. I have hidden that thing away for along time. I give it to you in hopes that this time you will use to protect yourself and family. Hai you do have a family now. Think on what I say very carefully.” She said standing with difficulty.

“Are you going to make it back?” he asked standing also.

“Hai but Mayu is going to have to cut the pup out the way she did Mizuki. Asuna has sealed my womb.” She said smiling wanly.

“How long will Asuna be in this coma?' Naraku asked darkly.

“Unknown Naraku.” She answered softly.

“I love her.” He whispered.

“I know. Use that trinket carefully.” She said touching his hand lightly.

“I may not even use it. I am glad that I have the back up though.” He said.

“Good. I go now or else Sesshomaru will tear apart the palace in search of me.” She said in a tired voice.

“Tell her I am here always.” He said.

“Hai.” She responded.

She faded out as she ported back to the West. She appeared near her chambers and held onto the wall for support.

“Oh dear.” She murmured.

She walked forward a few steps and stumbled.

-Osamu, I need Mayu.-

-Mother? What is wrong? - He thought back.

-The pup…your father is he here? - She thought.

-No Mother. - He pathed.

-Send Jaken please. - She cried in thought.

Osamu ran with Mayu to his parents chambers and saw his mother on the floor. He picked up his mother and laid her on his futon. She was pale and he looked at Mayu.

“Your sister sealed her womb. The placenta may have detached again. I cannot wait for the Lord.” Mayu said.

“He would say to do whatever is necessary Mayu.” Osamu said urgently.

“Young lord you will have to hold her. I will cut her belly open and remove the pup.” Mayu instructed.

“Hai.” Osamu said nervously.

Mayu produced her pouch and called a servant for clean cloths. She pulled the blade out and nodded to Osamu. Augusta stirred a little and saw her oldest son.

“Oh my dearest son. Thank you, I think I am bleeding internally.” Augusta said weakly.

“My Lady you know what happens next.” Mayu said.

“Hai. The pup still moves Mayu so we are ok on that account. I will not cry out.” Augusta smiled weakly.

“Asuna did my lady.” Mayu said smiling.

“She is so much livelier than I.” Augusta joked.

“Mother!” Osamu said in shock.

“Hold me tight my son because this is going to hurt like hell.” Augusta murmured.

Osamu braced his mother and Mayu cut a horizontal line at her right hip and followed the old scar. Augusta said nothing but turned white and Osamu's eyes widened because she was broadcasting her tremendous pain; he held on tightly as she shook. Mayu cut through the layers and made it to the womb. She very carefully cut through the uterine wall and made sure to not cut the pup. Augusta nearly vomited but dry heaved instead. Mayu reached in and pulled the pup out. Osamu watched as he saw his youngest sibling born.

“You have another daughter my Lady.” Mayu cried out happily.

Mayu cut the cord and the little female screamed in a lung full of air. Sesshomaru burst into his chambers and stopped short. The pup had black hair like her mother and opened her brown eyes. She had her sires' markings down to the last stripe and kept screaming. Augusta's head rolled to the side and watched her mate look dumbfounded.

“My Lord you have done this before. You take the pup and name your daughter.” Augusta joked.

“My Lady I am going to have to take your womb. It is ruined.” Mayu said.

“I understand Mayu. I could bleed to death if you do not.” Augusta said tiredly.

“Sesshomaru-sama your daughter my lord.” Mayu said lifting the girl up wrapped in fur.

Sesshomaru took his daughter and noticed she was not tiny as his other pups had been. She was finally calm and staring at him.

“You carried full term.” Sesshomaru said in shock.

“Hai my love. When Asuna sealed my womb she stopped the problem I had with all my pregnancies. If I carried any length of time they were born too early. Only the twins and Youshiro were strong enough to survive.” Augusta said closing her eyes.

“Young Lord give your mother this draught to knock her out, she is in tremendous pain.” Mayu instructed.

Osamu laid his mother down gently and took a cup from Mayu and brought it to his mother's lips. He roused her and she took the draught down and laid her head down and looked at her mate.

“What is her name my heart?” she asked in a low whisper.

“Yoshiko.” He murmured.

“What a lovely name Sesshomaru. I will see you when I wake up.” Augusta said falling into a drugged sleep.

“She will live? She is not…” Sesshomaru said worried.

“My Lord your mate will live and she is fine. We knew what to expect and we have been prepared for months.” Mayu said gently.

“Father, I am going to get Rin. She has never missed a birth and she will be most put out that she was not here to meet her newest sister.” Osamu said quietly.

Sesshomaru nodded and looked down at his newborn pup. She looked like Augusta so much it touched his normally stoic heart.

“Mayu I wish to bring Yoshiko to see Asuna. Augusta will be alright?” he asked.

“My Lord I swear upon her sweet head she is fine. She brought back the Miko's books and we studied them. She knew and we prepared.” Mayu said smiling.

“She never ceases to amaze me. Will Asuna wake up?” Sesshomaru asked.

“Eventually. Your brother's fang is powerful to be sure but Asuna is too.” Mayu muttered.

“The hanyou loves her.” The Western Lord commented.

“Hai my Lord.” Mayu commented.

“Hn.” He mumbled as he left the room.

Yoshiko mewled and started rooting as he walked and Sesshomaru offered the newborn a knuckle till he could return to Augusta. He entered Asuna's chambers and saw her laying on her futon looking peaceful in her coma sleep. Her face had gashes and scratches all over it. Her left arm was bare and had been stitched at the shoulder and wrapped. Her chest rose in a regular rhythm and he seated himself.

“You have a new sister daughter. She was born full term and looks like your mother; her name is Yoshiko and has a need to know her sister.” He said in a low tone.

He knew there would be no response but he refused to let her sink into oblivion.

“You need to wake up and deal with things Asuna. You spirited away your own daughter. Wake up!” he snarled in a low tone.

“Congrats on the birth of your girl Sesshomaru.” Inuyasha said from the door.

“Thank you little brother.” He said tonelessly.

“If I knew she would have jumped in front of it I wouldn't have done it.” Inuyasha said sounding guilty.

“I understand about wanting Naraku gone but one normally makes sure the area is clear before one lets loose such destructive power.” Sesshomaru said in frigid tone.

“She jumped in front of it by her own choice asshole. You act like I would hurt my own niece on purpose. Besides she saved Naraku!” Inuyasha snapped.

“Half breed leave me to my own daughters and deal with yours. I cannot shut your impertinent mouth at the moment and my oldest is recovering from YOUR mistake.” Sesshomaru said coldly.

“Yeah well you should have beat Suna's ass along time ago.” Inuyasha said flippantly.

“Be thankful I do not beat yours at this moment.” The Western lord said in a low snarl.

“What happened to `this Sesshomaru'?” the hanyou said smirking.

“Get out!” Sesshomaru yelled.

Yoshiko let out a wail and Sesshomaru stood and growled low in his chest to calm the newborn. Inuyasha took off in another direction and Lord Jin came closer to the room.

“She is beautiful Sesshomaru-sama.” Jin said in a respectful tone.

“Thank you.” He said stiffly.

“I will apologize for my temper earlier but I want my daughter back and I want Asuna well.” Jin commented.

“The same wish this Sesshomaru has.” He said.

“Father?” a voice called from down the hall.

Sesshomaru looked over and his eyes softened at Rin's appearance. His ningen ward had become a lovely woman. His motives for finding her a youki mate had been many but the biggest had been extending her short ningen life. Rin's hair was piled on her head and she wore a long kimono of green. Her large brown eyes held concern.

“Hai Rin.” Sesshomaru said.

“My Lord!” she said bowing.

Jin watched with interest at the latest turn of events. He leaned against the wall of his mate's room and looked down at her. His heart clenched at the damage been wrought on her. He looked up and watched the ningen take the pup from Sesshomaru's arms.

“She looks like Mother! You finally let one of your pups look like her.” Rin teased.

“Hai.” He said softly.

“What did you name her?” Rin asked.

“Yoshiko.” He said.

“Well little Yoshiko. I shall tell you that your chichi will be over protective but loves you more than his own life. You will probably be a little warrior but that is a good thing because then you can watch your own back.” Rin said softly to the pup that watched her face and puckered her little lips.

“She is hungry. Shall I take her back to Mother?” Rin asked softly.

“Hai.” Sesshomaru said nodding.

“I will come back and sit with Asuna. Did Osamu tell me correctly and she threw herself in front of Inuyasha's Adamant Barrage?” Rin asked in shock.

“Hai she did.” He confirmed.

“Damn half breed.” Rin snorted and left.

Jin looked amazed and stared at the Western Lord and realized that he was complex and fascinating. Sesshomaru looked down at Asuna again and went to the other side of her futon and sat down.

“She has not moved at all?” Jin asked.

“No.” he muttered.

“You are angry at your brother for his recklessness?” Jin asked.

“Half brother and hai.” Sesshomaru corrected him.

Jin looked at Asuna's hands and they twitched. Sesshomaru saw it to and she moved a hand.

“Asuna. Wake up. Come on and wake up.” Jin said in her ear.

“Asuna.” Sesshomaru said simply.

Every joint and muscle hurt. I almost wished to face Mizuki's birth again. I cracked an eye open when I heard my father's voice and Jin. I groaned in pain and wished that my uncle would shove the Tetsaiga up his own posterior.

“Water.” I groaned.

I saw my father move and pour water from a container into a cup and brought it to me. I drank it and laid my head back.

“Did I hear a pup cry?” I asked my father.

“Your mother gave birth to a girl and I named her Yoshiko.” He said.

“I am happy for you my Lord.” I said shutting my eyes against the pain.

“Hai.” He said.

“Jin you are here.” I said with my eyes closed.

“Did you expect I would not be?” Jin asked gently.

“Hai.” I whispered.

“I told you I would not leave you.” He said.

“Hn.” I mumbled.

“Where is Mizuki?” Jin asked.

“I truly have no idea.” I said as my heart clenched painfully.

“You sent her to the hanyou!” Jin said in a rage.

“I sent her to her sire.” I snarled with surprising vehemence.

“Lord Jin now is not the time.” Sesshomaru cautioned.

“Where is my daughter Asuna?” Jin asked in anger.

“I told you I have no idea. You thought I was a fool. Both of you thought I would take you at your word?” I said in a bitter tone.

My father and Jin both stared at me in shock. My eyes clouded over in pain.

“I was not supposed to survive.” I said looking away.

“You have a death wish again?” my sire asked.

“I have a wish for Naraku to be left alone. He has done nothing wrong in over a century and he is not the same youki. I will willingly stay and be your mate in every sense of the word if you leave him be.” I said looking at Jin.

“Mizuki? You would deny yourself your daughter?” He asked in disbelief.

“Hai. She is loved and well cared for. I can make that sacrifice in order for her to know her father.” I said stiffly.

“Have you thought that maybe your feelings were not your own but the Kamis playing games with you and the hanyou?” Jin asked.

“It has been thought on and discarded.” I said stubbornly.

“You truly love him.” My father said in disbelief.

“What did the nobles say when you brought an uppyr home for your mate? Was your mother not decidedly against your choice?” I asked my father.

“Hai.” He replied.

“You banished your own mother because she would see harm come to my mother. What is the damn difference?” I growled then regretted it as pain washed over me.

“Nothing.” Sesshomaru said softly.

I looked at Jin and my eyes took on a cold and haughty look.

“I will provide you an heir immediately as soon as I am healed and be your Lady. I do love you and that is not a stretch for me. You broke your word and honor to me and if you do it again there will be no more from me.” I said coldly.

“You dare dictate to me? You love me but still you love him; why would you honor him so?” Jin said with gritted teeth.

“Because he has known me a century. That is a lot longer than a few months. This is my compromise. Take or leave it.” I said fiercely.

“You are a hard bargainer Lady Asuna. You can be as cold and calculating as your esteemed sire. I accept your terms.” Jin said standing and bowing.

I watched him leave my chambers and looked up at my father. He was in a great debate with himself and I knew it. My relationship with Naraku had been forbidden but so had his own. He had shown strength in standing by his mate as I was doing now. The only difference was I was giving up my daughter. I stared straight ahead and said nothing. There was nothing to be said.

“Since you will not speak then you listen.” My sire said.

I looked at him and remained stoic as he had taught me.

“I will never accept Naraku; I cannot do that. I will not stop you from associating yourself with him however. He is never welcome here and I will not acknowledge him but I cannot see you giving up your own pup.” He said.

I continued to stare at him and say nothing.

“Jin is a jealous creature but you are not without your own powers of persuasion. You need to let the shock wear off and then proceed cautiously.” He said.

“You are telling me to lead two separate lives.” I said astonished.

“I will never say this again. You still have duties here as my heir, that does not stop because you are his Lady. I have explained you are a Lord and not a consort here. Understand I will never see the hanyou; I hate him but love you. Others will choose to do their will.” He stated.

“I understand.” I said looking at him.

“Rin is here and will wish to see you.” He said softly.

My face broke into a smile at the mention of my ningen sister. I had not seen her for nearly five years and it had been too long. Osamu and I used to sleep in her room with her in our true forms and treated her as if she were porcelain.

“Can you help me stand my Lord?” I asked.

“You should stay abed daughter.” He said firmly.

“Help me?” I asked straining as I sat up.

“Asuna.” He growled.

“I have a new sister and my other is here. I will not stay abed.” I said struggling to stand.

He gave me his hand and I grabbed it. He pulled me up and I winced terribly. I walked but slowly.

“My fang protected me.” I said in sudden understanding.

“It is my fang that made it and Tetsaiga is my father's fang. There is a blood bond so no major harm would befall you.” He said as he helped me walk.

“I was never in true danger.” I said.

“I would not say that.” Sesshomaru said shaking his head.

I kept quiet while we made our way to my parents' chambers. I was tired already but wanted to see my sisters. My father helped me into the room and I went and sat by my mother on the futon. She was groggy and I could scent blood that was being cleaned away. She was feeding my sister and Rin was chatting away. She squealed when she saw me and lightly hugged me. My mother looked over at me and smiled warmly.

“It was about time you woke up.” She said sweetly.

“I needed the rest.” I said as I lay next to her.

“Kamis Asuna! You are busy!” Rin exclaimed.

“Hai too busy.” I replied lightly.

“Mother, she is wonderful. She looks so healthy!” I exclaimed.

“Hai thanks to you.” She said in extreme happiness.

“It was nothing.” I murmured.

I saw my father staring at his four females and was very proud. My mother looked at him and their eyes locked and it was evident that there was a profound love and passion between them.

“Where are Osamu and Youshiro? You should be surrounded by all your pups.” Rin said.

“They are on the other side of palace. Poor Osamu had to hold me when Mayu did her duty.” Augusta said quietly.

“He will get over it.” I said laughing.

“I will get him and Youshiro. I have not seen peanut in awhile.” Rin said grinning.

I laughed at remembering Youshiro's nickname.

Rin stood up and went and hugged my father and he looked down at her fondly. I realized that my parents had a large family now; Rin, Osamu, and I were grown. Rin left and I stared at my infant sister and missed my own daughter terribly. My mother's face softened at my pain. I just shook my head and brushed the raven hair aside on Yoshiko's head. She stopped nursing and looked up at me. She was a stunning pup and my father was going to have to keep the males away from her for quite awhile. I brushed her mind to see if she was telepathic and she seemed to stare more intently.

-She is telepathic my love. You would cry in mind and in voice. Yoshiko does the same. I have seen Mizuki and Naraku and they are both well. I have given Naraku something that will aid him if necessary. They are in Outer Mongolia right now. - She pathed.

I closed my eyes and felt unspeakable gratitude to her.

-What did you give him? - I thought back.

-I will tell you later. For now let us all rest. - She sighed in mind.

I nodded and noticed my father staring at me and my mother. He always knew when we spoke through telepathy and at times it annoyed him. Youshiro and Osamu entered followed by Rin. Osamu and Youshiro sat on the futon by my mother's feet and watched Yoshiko sleep.

“Finally I am not the youngest.” Youshiro mumbled.

“No not anymore. You were most brave on the battlefield little brother.” I said to him.

“You saved my hide sister.” He said blushing.

“You were there and you did well. You are young; younger than I when I went into my first battle. You came home unharmed, my arm had been broken.” I said in approval.

“Thank you.” He said smiling.

My father nodded his approval and that was tantamount to him singing Youshiro all kinds of praise. I missed it when our whole family was not together. This was a happy time and I was happy amongst it. I realized that I too wanted this but I had divided myself so much I may never get it. I actually ended falling asleep next to my mother and sister, we were not disturbed. When I woke next it was fully dark and my mother was sitting up and she was drinking from a cup. I knew what was in it but I said nothing. She finished with it and looked at me.

“You have been so sad my darling. I promise you this will work out; I know it will.” She said softly.

“I have no idea how at this moment but I believe you.” I whispered back.

“I gave him the Shikon no Tama.” She said quietly.

I stared at my mother in shock. I could not believe that damn trinket still existed. She had handed Naraku the thing he had been obsessed with over a century ago.

“Where? When? How?” I asked.

“The jewel was lost in what we thought was his demise. I found it quite by accident and decided to hide it away for it had been the cause of so much despair and I can shield even more than the mighty hanyou could. I never touched the dreadful thing and kept it secret. I have seen Naraku's eyes and there is no evil in them anymore. He has lived alone and miserable before and it took the daughter of his enemy to show him what to actually live for. He has found more power in his love for you and that tiny pup then he ever did in the Jewel of Four Souls.” She said in a whisper.

“I do not understand.” I said.

“They all speculate where Mizuki came from and why she is so powerful. She may be the incarnate of a Kami but they forget how she was made. I know you had a profound love for Sheng but this thing you have with Naraku transcends time. You appeared before him over a century ago and the well let you pass through. Your Aunt Kagome was meant to be here just the same as you were meant to meet Naraku. There are things that cannot and will not be explained and your union with Naraku is that. Your yoki is one with his and that is how Mizuki came about. She is the product of a union of one power that came from two. You may not have been in a heat when you conceived her but your yoki made it happen. Two halves to the same coin.” She stated as she held my chin.

“So you are saying that Sheng was not my soul mate but Naraku is.” I said.

“Hai. I suspect that your souls were joined in another life. You were bonded to him before. You are both telepathic creatures and your souls have been searching trying to find one another. Reincarnation is a tricky thing. Ask your Aunt Kagome.” She said.

I sat back and could not believe what she surmised but knew it had to be true. I only ever projected to those I had an intense bond with. I could not believe it yet it made sense. I looked at my mother and she smiled.

“Youki can reincarnate?” I asked surprised.

“We have souls. Ningen like to demonize us because we are long lived and have abilities they do not. We love and lose just like any mortal.” She said wisely.

“You are amazing and I am honored to call you Mother.” I said.

“I have made many mistakes Asuna. Do not think I have learned all this instantly. You father has taught me much as well. Love was something that was only spoken as a lie and never as truth. Sesshomaru taught me to accept things beyond the physical.” She said.

“I hope I am as wise as you. I certainly do not feel like anything but an intense failure.” I said shaking my head.

“You are not. Now I think you and I could both use the hot spring. Mayu had to take my womb.” She said lightly.

“You are not sad?” I said.

“I made my peace with it when you had to seal it my dear. I read your Aunt's medical books from her era. They are as advanced or more as the old Roman Empire was. Mayu and I had much reading.” She said with a smile.

“I am glad Yoshiko is here. I will have to keep her in line as well.” I said smiling at my mother.

“Hai just like you do with Youshiro from time to time. He is a head strong boy more so then you. He and I have had to have many sit downs as of late. Your Father worries over him and you the most. Osamu is Osamu. Your twin just floats along as with the tide and lives his life to the fullest. Your Father wishes more from him but is just now learning to accept him as himself. Youshiro and you both are smart and passionate. I have had to remove his attentions from some females as he is still just a tad young to experience that kind of relationship.” She said as we hobbled to the hot spring.

“I have a hard time imagining Youshiro old enough to be interested in females too much.” I said.

“He admires your twin immensely and I have had to talk with Osamu of encouraging that kind of behavior.” She said smiling.

“Osamu needs to be sent abroad and made into a diplomat. I can be the warrior as well as Youshiro. Osamu needs to get off his futon long enough to do his duty to the West.” I said in irritation.

“You sound like your Father!” she laughed heartily.

“Well he should.” I said.

“Hai I agree.” She admitted.

“I have managed to at least provide the start of the next generation.” I said.

“Osamu will need to be more careful or he will pup a female.” She commented.

“How many lovers has he had?” I asked.

“Enough. He knows things are going to have to change.” She replied.

“Hn.” I muttered.

I was freshly washed and irritated as hell that my left arm was going to take weeks to heal. I stalked my chambers and missed my daughter. I had sworn to Jin that I would stand by him and I intended to keep my word. I was still floored over the news about the Shikon no Tama and decided to ask Naraku myself. I laid down on my futon and concentrated on him intensely. I grew irritated even more and decided that if sleep took me then I could reach him. I closed my eyes and fell into a light doze and I was in a strange castle. He looked up and saw me and his face was truly happy. I smiled down at him and Mizuki.

“Are you still in a coma?” he asked.

-No. I am asleep though. - I thought.

“I am relieved that you are well enough to be awake. I miss you.” He said.

-Kami, I miss you as well. I will see you and Mizuki this way for awhile and then after some time has passed come back to Japan. - I pathed.

“I am not a coward Asuna.” He said annoyed.

-No you are no coward. My mother informed me of the jewel.-

“She speaks too much.” He muttered.

-She is wise. We have much to discuss but this tires me immensely. Things have come to light that I think will fascinate you. - I pathed with a smile.

“You risked your life to save me. What possessed you?” he asked.

-You really have to ask that? My fang protected me well enough from the Tetsaiga but I was hoping for a miracle. You would not have died, I would not allow it. I know you would have died for me. Vlad still needs defeating and Jin needs appeasing. - I thought.

“I swear I have come to hate him.” He snarled in low tone.

-I have made a bargain and I have to honor it. You have trusted me thus far, continue to do so. I will call you to come to me soon. - I thought.

“You have to do what you have to do. I will not give that flea infested mutt my daughter. He will have to kill me first and I swear that will not happen.” He replied vehemently.

-I understand your feelings clearly. There is so much to tell and not enough time. Mother had a female and she is named Yoshiko. My father and I have an understanding. - I pathed.

“Interesting.” He said.

-I have to go back. I will come again soon. - I thought to him.

“I love you.” He said looking at me.

-I love you and our daughter. - I pathed as I faded.

I bolted awake and winced in pain. I smirked as I had seen him and Mizuki. I could not hold either one yet but I would soon. I was fascinated by the idea that we had lived previously. I was young as was he by youki standards. I stood up and went into the nursery to spend time with my sons.

Augusta stared at her mate as he slept. His brow was furrowed and knew that his pups were causing him worry. She tried to keep the peace between all of them and sometimes they wore her down. She watched him sleep often and he seemed to sleep deeper when he was near her. She reached over and ran a digit along a magenta stripe on his cheek. He stirred a little under her touch and settled down again. She knew when he was on patrol he would go days without sleep but when he was in the palace he would sleep almost every night. She picked up some silver strands and looked at them in the moonlight that flooded the room. Yoshiko was asleep in the adjoining room and all was quiet. She lay there in deep contemplation and wished that things could be easier for Asuna. She made a mental note to seek out a legendary witch that lived far to the north. Sesshomaru stirred next to her and her breathing increased when she caught sight of his bare chest. He slept only in a pair of light silk hakamas and he was a vision. She had no business lusting after her mate this soon after birth. She could never get enough of him and thanked God everyday for meeting him.

“Why are you not sleeping?” he asked in a whisper.

“I was too busy worshiping your body.” She stated bluntly.

“Augusta, you just gave me another daughter this day.” He said leveling her a stare.

“I love you. I think I have always loved you.” She said softly.

“Augusta your body needs to heal.” He whispered in her ear.

“Hai I know my love. Can you hold me close to your body then.” She whispered.

“Silly question.” He lightly laughed.

“Shhhh you will wake Yoshiko.” She whispered as he spooned her body.

“You were lusting after me. I felt your eyes on me.” He whispered kissing her neck.

“You are not helping me my Lord.” She cried softly.

“I love that you still want me after a century. I love that you cry out my name when you release for me.” He whispered hoarsely.

“I am dying for your touch you arrogant dog.” She sighed in lust.

She gently grabbed his wrist and licked the prominent veins in his wrist and gently bit in. Sesshomaru sucked in his breath softly and was assaulted by his mate's overwhelming lust. She spread the euphoria that she brought when she occasionally let his blood. She touched him with phantom strokes and overwhelming his senses.

“I will bring us both to the brink through you.” She whispered.

“Hai.” He moaned softly.

Augusta could feel his rising need and pushed him further when she grasped his length and moved her hand lovingly along it. His breath was coming quicker when she stroked him lightly. Her own breathing was quickened and she grasped slightly firmer and continued her mental assault and she felt his warm breath on her mating mark and he bit into it. She shook against him and made him feel a rush of extreme hunger and ache.

“Kamis Augusta!” he cried out softly.

She leaned her head back and kissed his lips and made him feel her lips along his whole body including his staff and he groaned as he thrust in her hand. She continued kissing his mouth and felt him closing in on his release. She sucked on his tongue and mimicked the sensation on his member and he shuddered violently in her grasp as he released. She moaned loudly into the kiss as she came with him.

“Shall I call for Mayu to keep Yoshiko and we get cleaned up?” Augusta whispered.

“Hai.” He replied with his eyes closed.

“Are you still feeling the effects?” she whispered smugly.

“Hai.” He growled low in his throat.

She reached across him and got her dressing gown and touched his shoulder lightly. His eyes opened and they were slowly returning to their normal amber but were tinged pink. She lifted her hand to her lips and her tongue darted out and slowly licked his essence off her hand suggestively. Sesshomaru watched her like a hawk and reached over and pulled her to him and possessed her lips until they needed air. She smiled and stood slowly mindful of her stitches and put on her dressing gown. He watched his mate slowly leave their chambers. Her yoki had deliciously wicked uses that he was quite fond of even after a century. He stood and went and watched his infant pup sleep. Her tiny mouth made sucking motions as she slept. She looked like a tiny Augusta and knew that he had again lost his heart to a female. He had put on a kosode and straightened his hakamas before Mayu swept in and sat by the sleeping pup. He nodded his thanks and went after his mate and their bath.

I had my head laid against the side of my balcony in my chambers and watched the night sky. Jin had left for Panyu and was furious with me. I expected him back within a day or two and dared not leave a trail to Naraku. I felt my mother at my door and I turned. I smiled at her and she came and sat on my futon.

“I wish for us to take a trip north when we are both healed. I have a wish to further investigate this theory of you and Naraku. I feel certain that the witch I know of can shed some light for you and tell us if Mizuki is related to a Kami or no.” she said.

“What of the threat from Vlad Tepest and what about Jin?” I asked.

“Vlad will have to regroup because you and Jin injured him badly. I received the reports from Jaken and Jin can grow up and act the age he is.” She shrugged.

I snorted at her remarks about Jin and smirked.

“Hai I think a little travel is in order. Will you take Yoshiko?” I asked.

“No, I of course have a wet nurse.” She replied.

“Well then we are for the north.” I said looking out the window.

West: I have had this story pretty much outlined for awhile and it has been hand written in notebooks for awhile. I learned to type fast in graduate school when I had to type 20-30 page term papers. I majored in History and minored in Cultural Studies. I have done archeological work in my area and I love history in any way, shape, or form. I hope you continue to enjoy the story.
