Chapter 4 - Hope
“Ri! You will not believe who I met today!!!” Shitenshi burst in the front door, following her ears to her grandmother's office. Ri was there, reading a book.
“You met Lord Sesshoumaru?” She asked, voice calm and slightly surprised.
“Huh?” Shi had almost forgotten her glimpse of the famous youkai. “Oh, yeah, he talked to our class for a minute. But I met someone even better!!!”
“Better?” Shiori raised one eyebrow as a small smile played across her lips. “Do tell.”
“Yeah, a hanyou! His name is Mujinku, and he is Lord Sesshoumaru's nephew! Doesn't that mean he is Inuyasha-sama's son?” Shi missed the shocked expression in her grandmother's eyes. “He had silver hair, like mine, and gold eyes and his ears were under his bandana and he was an inu-hanyou and he had a charm like my shell, only he said his mother made it, and she is a miko!” Shi paused for breath.
“I'm glad you got to meet another hanyou dear.” Ri found her voice. “I've always wanted you to, but there are so few youkai left, let alone hanyou.”
“It's ok. He was just as shocked to see me, I think, but he was really nice! I'm gonna go do my homework now!! We're supposed to write about our trip!” Shi bounced out of the room, leaving Shiori to her musings.
Could it really be? Inuyasha? He did travel with a miko. Kagome and Inuyasha? Are they really still alive?

“Shiori!!!” grandfather screamed, turning to fly at them one more time.
The boy ran forward. “Let Shiori free!!!” he yelled as he jumped, slicing grandfather in half. He landed, crouched in front of Shiori and her mommy, sword point resting on the ground but ready. The pieces dissolved into dust as he landed. The glow around the ball faded and it cracked in half. All the red color leaked from the coral and spread through the sand, seeping into his sword.
“This time it's over.” He murmered. His blade turned red and shimmery and he raised it into the air. “This is… the sword turned red!”
“The Tessaiga absorbed the power from the ball!” Kagome cried.
“Meaning the sword got stronger!” the monk added.
The color faded and the blade shrank, returning to its old rusted state. He sheathed it and walked forward as Shiori cautiously picked up half of the orb. “Shiori.”
She smiled up at him. It's all over. “Thank you.”
“No, didn't you help me as well?” his voice was soft. “You helped weaken the old geezer's power.”
“No.” she shook her head. “That wasn't me. A nice person hugged me and protected my mom and me.”
Mommy put a hand on her shoulder. “That was Tsukuyimaru, your father's hand.”
“Oh.” Daddy? Her mommy squeezed her shoulder in reassurance.
“Your dad wanted you to be free.” Kagome offered, kindness shining in her eyes.

Kagome and Inuyasha, can you still really be alive?

To tdgtink85 on MMorg, I will be putting in something like that in one of the next two chappies, probably the next one. It will all make sense very soon.

All the lines in the flashbacks are from the fansub. I did some modifications with English grammar and all, and the thoughts are all mine, but the lines are true to the anime.
Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha *pouts* or any of the other characters. I want to thank Rumiko Takahashi and company for creating such awesome characters for me to write about as I drool with envy at her skillz. ;)
