Chapter 8 - Histories Collide

“Ri! I'm back! I want you to meet someone!” Shitenshi led Mujinku through the house, accurately locating the elder hanyou in the kitchen, drinking a cup of tea. “Grandma Ri, this is Mujinku. Mujinku, this is Shiori.”

“Shiori?” Mujinku had an odd look on his face. “My parents once met a Shiori, back in the feudal era.”

“You're parents are Kagome and Inuyasha?”

“Yeah! You're the same Shiori?”

Ri nodded. “I was a child then, but your father saved me from being a slave to the leader of the bat tribe.”

“Yeah, I heard about that. Pops needed to make Tessaiga strong enough to break barriers, and you had this red coral in a glass ball thing, and that's how pops got the red Tessaiga.”

Shiori nodded. “Woah!” Shitenshi exclaimed. “That's just too weird! Your parents met Ri when they were all younger?”

“Yeah, but since they came through the well instead of living out the 500 years, they're a lot younger.”

“Cool!”

“Yeah, what are the odds that we'd run into each other, literally,” Mujinku winced, “When my parents knew your grandma?”

“Yeah, weird coincidence.”

“Keh. Pops said there's no such thing as coincidence, only Fate.”

“Mom used to say that too…” The teens locked eyes, the deeper meaning of their careless comments evident in the amethyst and amber depths. The silent moment was shattered by the deep resonance of the grandfather clock in the hall, tolling midnight.

Mujinku jumped. “Shards!”

“Curfew?”

“Yeah, half an hour ago. Bye Ri! Bye Shitenshi!” The inu-hanyou leapt for the door, leaving his jacket behind.

“Wait!” Shitenshi grabbed it and hurried out the door. She almost ran into the boy, who was standing stock still on the porch, eyes glinting in the darkness. “What?” Her soft question was answered by a pair of lips brushing against hers. The touch and taste of his kiss filled Shitenshi's belly with a warm tickling and she leaned into Mujinku.

They reluctantly pulled apart as Shiori's call wafted through the partially open door. “Shi? Did you catch him?”

“Other way around,” Shitenshi mumbled, smiling.

“Thanks for bringing my jacket.” There was a wicked glint in his eyes as Mujinku grabbed his jacket from her limp grasp. Then, with a quick kiss on her cheek, he bounced off into the darkness. “Bye, `Tenshi!”

For the second time that night, one thought occurred in two separate minds. Wow.
